Ron heard a few murmurs from the crowd as Neville led him around the dance floor. Not expertly, but with much more grace than Ginny reported him having at the Yule Ball. Ron didn’t mind not leading, but it gave him too much time to listen to bystanders.
“Isn’t that Ronald Weasley?”
“Wow, who would have thought?”
“He certainly prefers brooms to hoops doesn’t he?”
Ron’s body clenched, hearing the whispers around him. He looked around, his eyes narrowing, ignoring Neville’s quiet plea to leave it alone until he made eye contact with the witch who said it. It was the pretty blonde from the visitor’s desk, and she was staring at him haughtily, draped on the arm of a novice Quidditch player Ron didn’t really know.
Ron was about to walk over and give them a piece of his mind, when to his surprise Viktor Krum materialized and was already speaking to them.
“Leave them alone.”
Internally Ron scoffed. Really? That was the best he could do? But Krum wasn’t finished.
“He must have rejected your advances all week, is that it? You wanted to come on the arm of a War Hero, not an unknown keeper,”
The witch’s face flushed as her date withdrew his arm from hers. She opened her mouth, but closed it after seeing Krum glowering at her. She went after her date, who had stalked off, calling at him to wait for her.
Krum turned around, to find Ron standing face to face with him. “Why did you do that?” Ron demanded.
Viktor sighed, and watched with concealed softness how Neville laid a reassuring hand on Ron’s back. “Because you don’t get to choose who you love, or even who you like.”
Before Ron or Neville could respond, Viktor trudged off, his typical glower keeping people out of his way.
Ron turned to face Neville, and upon seeing Neville’s concerned, open, caring face, was seized with an inexplicable urge to kiss him. So he did.

Draco pulled away from Hermione, breathing hard from the kiss. She looked dazed, her hair slightly mussed from his hands, her lips plump and inviting. Her breath seemed caught in her throat as well. Silence reigned over them. Neither of them moved as the minutes ticked by. His senses seemed heightened, as he noticed little spots of red flush around her collarbone and neck. Small beads of sweat glistened off of her temple, making her glow in the moonlight. He could smell her shampoo a sweet subtle scent, that reminded him of summers at Malfoy Manor, in the garden with his mother.
As he drank her in, so Hermione did to him. The moonlight made him softer, more angelic as he shimmered white in the night. Her heart pounded in her chest as she took in his quiet predatory gaze, his expression saying how badly he wanted to eat her up. And by Merlin did she want that.
Hermione offered Draco her hand, which he took instantly, assisting her in standing from the windowsill. She led him out of the library, no words spoken. She led him to the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom and ushered him inside through the office and into Krum’s quarters.
Draco felt tense, nervous and his hand was clenched tightly in Hermione’s. Why did she bring him here of all places? If she wanted him wouldn’t they have gone back to her room or his? As they entered, he spotted Krum sitting on his bed, taking his shoes off, he must have just gotten back from the Quidditch party.
Draco felt his heart constrict as he saw the way Krum looked at Hermione. She wasn’t looking at either of them though, she had released Draco to steady herself on the wall as she slipped her own shoes off. When she did look up, her lover was contemplating her date, and her date looked hesitant.
Krum finally spoke as he shrugged his shirt off. “You’re right my love, this will be the easiest way.”
Hermione nodded mutely. Her body was hot and flushed from her kiss with Draco, and she was aching with need. But the reality of the situation was setting in, making her panic. And she looked at Draco, uncertain, silently asking him to help her and make a decision.
His steely eyes looked into hers, concern and understanding shining through like a lighthouse beacon. She waited with bated breath, not paying attention to Krum standing from the bed and slipping his arms around her, holding her. Her eyes were on her friend, as he opened his mouth to speak.
