"As I found out when I started asking around about it, asking too, if anyone knew where I might be able to find more just like...it..." he blinked suddenly as if something had just hit him, which it had. He looked at his best friend with some shock. "I didn't know you knew ancient Kobolian."
Roark chuckled with a shrug. "Not many do," he told him as he passed the blade over to Harry. "Harry and I were taught by some of your brothers when we expressed an interest, when, that is, they and WE had the spare time. Which, by the way, wasn't much. You won't. Find another blade like that one. Not unless you can find the weapon's master that makes them, and even then, he's not very likely to tell you anything. These are made for Rodolphus, and Rodolphus alone."
A smirk. "I found the weapon's master that makes them."
That raised a brow. "DID you?"
A nod. "As you said, he refused to talk to me. He also, I found out, makes Rabastan's favored weapon."
A nod. "I'm not surprised. They both probably pay him a fortune to not only make them but to keep his mouth shut. Harry and I will go see him in a few days. We'll see what we may be able to shake from him. Logan," he looked at him. "Rodolphus did NOT kill your brother."
"Just how do you know that?"
"Number one, it's not his style," Harry spoke up, looking up from the blade he held. "Rodolphus is a master assassin. He moves fast, strikes hard, and disappears. You said that Kale was alive when you found him?" Logan gave a nod. "IF Rodolphus had killed him, I can guarantee you he would not have been. Also, Rodolphus would never have been so careless as to leave one of his weapons behind for authorities to find later, any more than you would find one of Rabastan's. They're just too good at what they do."
"So...whoever killed my brother is actually trying to lay blame where blame does not go."
"Exactly. Whoever killed Kale is trying to lay us a false trail to follow. I can't say how he managed to get his hands on one of Rodolphus' blades, and we may never find out," Harry sat forward, laying the knife on top of the files. "I DO hope," he began, leaning further forward to slip a finger under Logan's chin, turning his head to meet his eyes, "that you." he looked over at Kili, " that neither of you are blaming yourselves."
Kili gave a shrug, a bit of a sheepish look in his dark brown eyes. It was Logan who answered, "Only in that we couldn't have done more to help him. Are Sebastien and Robin coming?"
"If I call and tell them I need them, then yes, they'll come," Roark said. "Though truthfully, I'm more inclined to believe it will be Ethan and Payton who will show up. As Sebastien reminded me, he and Robin heal the body, while Ethan heals the mind."
Logan gave a sigh and a nod. "There's no need to call them, Rory. All I really need is some time. Time...and if Rodolphus Lestrange didn't kill my brother, find out who did."
"I am going to make you a promise, Logan. No matter how long it takes us, WE WILL find out who killed Kale, and once we do, they will pay the steepest of prices for the murder of a Colonial Counter-Intelligence Officer. Just as Harry and I intend to make Tom Riddle pay for his crime of murdering our parents."
Logan nodded as their eyes met...held. Slowly, softly, so as not to startle him, : I swear to you, my friend, : came Roark's voice into his mind, : he will not get away with it, no matter WHO it may be. : "I've also been thinking about asking Schyler and Sebastien about taking some emergency medical courses," he said, breaking contact with Roark's shimmering silver eyes.
"That may not be a bad idea for any of us in this job, and I made just that suggestion to the Admiral. Harry and I both took a semester of emergency medicine. Learned a lot of very useful stuff. I WAS going to take the advanced class, but I ran out of time when I received my orders to report to Virgon."
"So what are we going to do now?"
"Actually, Fi, Robin put a bee in my bonnet, so to speak. Logan's moving without telling anyone where he was going was actually a very good idea It was suggested that we all do the same. Harry has already spoken to Severus and he was going to start looking into finding us different apartments. Once he had finished with whatever he was doing, that is."
"Hum...mm, given who we all suspect to be one of our leaks, that may be a very good idea. Permission to look for new apartments tomorrow morning, Sir?"
Roark had to laugh. "Permission granted, Lt. Kili. Then, as soon as we all get moved, and Harry and I have gone through these files, as well as make a start on the personal files...This now ALSO reminds me, I have brand new laptops for all of us. We're to start using those instead of the base computers. Chris, Dante, and Gwydion all had a hand in the new security features installed in them."
A round of chuckles sounded. "Of COURSE, they did," Fili said. "So, we see if we can clear some of the team before we get everyone together?"
"I'm hoping, with the five of us working on it, we can get through the team and at least half of the Garrison," Roark suddenly gave a wide yawn. "Sorry, it's been a very long day for me."
"Um...for me too," Harry said as he yawned as well. "We did, after all, have to get up at the same time. Which, I will have you all know, was before dawn."
"And we ALL know how you HATE to get up before the sun rises."
"Lazy," Roark teased his brother.
A dark brow arched. "Who was it that tried to roll over, burrow under his covers, and go back to sleep?"
Kili laughed. "Certainly not Roark. He rarely sleeps with covers. Fire magic, you know." He looked up at the clock over the mantel of the fireplace.
"Fuck. Is it really past midnight?"
Logan looked up at the shock in his cousin's tone, and let out a whistle. "Sure looks that way. Fi, Ki, will you see these two get back to their apartments alright?" he asked as he rose, stretching, a yawn escaping him now.
"Absolutely. OH! Before we forget. How do we get the cool new uniforms?"
Harry and Roark laughed. "As a matter of fact, Harry and I have a couple of sets for each of you at my place with orders from the Admiral that you are to requisition however many you think you'll need. I was ALSO told to make sure you remember to order at LEAST two sets of dress uniforms as well."
"WHAT?!" the gasped. "Seriously?"
"Yes, boys, seriously. I'm lead, Harry is my second, and Fi, you're third. We are to make it known that Counter-Intelligence now has full province over this investigation. I would, however like to hold off on doing that until we actually get the team together. One other thing. Did Kale happen to mention to any of you that there were two informants on our side close to Riddle?"
"He told us there were informants that reported to him, and gave him information, but he never told us who they were. Said it was safer for them if they were only known by those at High Command."
"All Raph would say on the matter was that the two were very well established, and that they were very close to Riddle. Have been for several yahrens {year}."
Low whistles. "Several yahrens? That's a long time for an informant to get established."
"Apparently this has been in the works since before any of us even joined the service," Harry said. "If I had a guess, I'd say they probably started this shortly after Mum and Dad were murdered."
"That would also be a very long time for an informant to be in place. They would have had to move very slowly, carefully to make sure the both of them were firmly in place."
"No kidding. Riddle is no idiot to have gotten this far, or this powerful without ever getting caught. The fact that he got away with killing Commander James and Lily Peverell Potter because of no evidence...even though everyone knew he was the one who killed them."
"Well, they will also be helping us where and when they can once we begin to move against him, but we won't know who they are until they're ready to reveal themselves to us."
"Which I really can't see them doing until we're close to closing this case, if even then. That's the thing about good undercover agents. None of us will ever know who they are." Logan suddenly had a bright look of hope in his blue eyes. "This is good. Maybe now we can actually get somewhere. We can actually start closing him down for good."
"Get ready boys," Roark told them, a look of pure determination in his silver eyes. "We are about to declare a full-scale war against Tom Riddle, or Lord Voldemort, whatever he chooses to call himself."
