SUSPICIONS
Anger doesn’t give you an edge, it blunts it. Harry had heard that somewhere but he couldn’t
remember where. By habit he reached up with his left hand to push his glasses up to settle more
comfortably on his face only to poke himself in the eye because he forgot he wasn‘t wearing them.
He had asked Hermione to fix his eyes until his new glasses arrived, he missed his glasses.
He sighed as he laid his head back against the cold stone of the parapet. His anger towards
everything had faded since that night in Draco’s arms. He saw things more clearly now than he had
in a long time. He still had his anger, he could feel it boiling under the surface of his control, but it
was more focused now. As if, he now had the edge that he had somehow been missing.
He had a sinking feeling that what he had been missing was 6’1 with fine blonde hair and an
extremely shaggable body. Damn it why now? Neither of them needed this.
He thought back over the week and realized that though things had changed between them
personally, in public Draco was just as cold to him as Harry was to Draco. He will never admit to
anyone how much his heart would clench and then burn after every encounter with the Slytherin. He
knew that it was his idea to still act the same but he would never of suggested it if he knew what he
knew now.
If he had known how his heart would hurt every time he felt himself go cold he would have keep his
bigmouth shut. Only Draco could make him feel warm. Harry had taken to touching him when they
would walk by each other. He ignored the questioning look in his eyes and continued to touch him,
the slightest touch would warm him and push the panic that was on the fringes back into the dark
recesses of his mind.
Hermione knew, of course, there wasn’t much that she didn’t know. But, as with Draco, Harry never
answered her questioning looks and when she had asked him outright just simply said because he
had too. She knew something because she had nodded as if she understood my answer and hugged
me whispering that I was to just let it happened. She reminded me of what Draco had said that night
which quickly led to remembering what had happened after, which had quickly led to me leaving the
room when the memory threatened to have me very embarrassed in front of her.
He could have sworn when he ran that he heard chuckling coming from behind him but when he had
turned she had her head stuck in a book so he must have been hearing things again.
He thought about the conversation he’d had with Dumbledore about the incident that Sunday. He
had not gone to the funeral just like they hadn’t wanted him to do. Harry didn’t know what to think
about it. There was this empty place inside him when he thought about the Dursley’s now. He had
once again apologized for losing his control.
Dumbledore had smiled and the twinkle in his eyes seem to brighten and he had said the most
curious thing. He had said that the choices given are not always the ones to take. Make your own if
the ones seen are not acceptable. But, if the choices are acceptable, do not complain if the outcome is
not what is expected. Harry had nodded as if he understood what he had been trying to say but really
he had understood none of it. I mean, his choice was to go to the Dursley’s funeral, that is why he
had gotten so angry and lost control. Harry had a suspicion that the Headmaster wasn’t talking
about the funeral.
He moaned as he tried to get more comfortable on the parapet and hit his aching side. Damn
Dumbledore and his really brilliant ideas. Gonna land him in the infirmary again that’s what he
was going to do. Vince had gotten him good this time. Moody and Sirius had wanted to yell at the
boy for hurting Harry. It had taken Harry to point out that Vince had not only managed to block
Harry’s curse but also Moody’s and Sirius as well, at the same time, and still have enough energy to
send a curse at Harry. Vince was absolutely scary at what he could do and the amount of curses he
could stand at one time was nothing short of amazing. Harry had left Vince in the capable hands of
the two demanding to know how he did that and limped down the hall.
Harry was sure that he had at least a broken rib. It hurt like hell and he should have been in the
infirmary letting Pomfrey heal it but here he was sitting on the Astronomy Tower bemoaning the
fact that his life was shit. He had an inkling about what was happening and it scared the living
daylights out of him.
If he didn’t hold Dumbledore in the highest esteem he would think he was trying to kill him. For the
second time this week he wondered if the old man wasn’t on some kind of muggle drug. Why else
would he have made the announcement Monday morning that the seventh years would get to
participate in a once in a life time event at Hogwarts?
Career Month.
The name made shivers of fear run down Harry’s spine as he thought about it. Dumbledore’s
Great Plan. The seventh year students would get to pick what career they wanted to have after
Graduation and take their classes accordingly. It had turned out, miraculously, that the Eight were
all in the same class. Wonder how that happened, Harry smirked at the thought.
Ron and Pansy would go off in their own little corner of the now restored training room with Remus
and Ms. Figg. It was weird watching the way that Ron treated the Slytherin girl and the way that she
treated him was just as obvious to everyone they were falling for each other. Harry hoped that it
wasn’t the situation and them being thrown together like this that was making this happen. His days
of watching them together confirmed his suspicions that they were indeed falling and fast.
He had seen Draco watching them and though it seemed that Ron and him had come to some kind of
agreement Harry was still afraid that the old Draco would rear it’s ugly head and say something that
would tear the two budding lovers apart. He had yet to say something but Harry knew he was just
bidding his time.
Hermione and Snape would go to the table or he would Apperate them both to London so that they
could research the books that the Library there wouldn’t send to Hogwarts. Harry had another
suspicion about that twosome actually becoming a real couple and in the not too distant future if the
gleam in Hermione’s eyes had anything to say about it. Harry shuddered at the thought, ewww
Snape! He refused to even broach the subject with her cause he really, really didn’t want to know.
Neville and Greg had become closer much to Vince’s dismay. The looks the black haired Slytherin
shot them when they were training should have given the Gryffindor a clue but as always Neville
just didn’t get it. And by the look of it neither was Greg and Harry had a suspicion that that would
be Vince’s downfall. Harry was sure that Neville was interested in Greg but every once in while he
would catch him staring at Vince in a thoughtful way.
Every time he looked up he would catch Draco watching him. Harry couldn’t read the expression on
the other boy’s face. He felt like an idiot for just walking out on him like that but he didn’t know
what else to do, to say, that would make their situation any better. Harry wanted to tell him
everything and the fact that he felt compelled to tell him scared him more than anything did. Draco
could not find out. Ever. He had a suspicion that when he did find out he wasn’t going to like it.
The voice in Harry’s head and been suspiciously absent over the last few days. It was as if it had
gotten Harry to do what it wanted and now would leave him alone to finish what he had started. But
Harry didn’t know if he could. It was so much easier being around the other boy when Harry felt the
coldness that he had become. But now the coldness hurt more than anything that Harry had ever
endured and Harry found himself searching for the fire that he had walked away from. He had spent
his last three free periods in the library researching what he thought had happened and he had a
suspicion that things had just went from tough to downright complicated.
Harry’d had a lot of suspicions lately and he had a feeling that they had just started.
He sighed again and grimaced as the pain in his side intensified. Damn, I need to get this fixed. He
got up and slowly made his way to the infirmary lost in his thoughts. He pushed open the door not
really noticing his surroundings so it was a few moments until the shouting voices reached him.
“Get off me woman!” yelled the unmistakable voice of Draco Malfoy.
“Mr. Malfoy, sit still.” came the commanding voice of Madam Pomfrey.
Harry didn’t hear the rest as the panic once again rose in him. Draco was hurt!

And for those that asked I don’t speak or write Irish Gaelic but I am learning. I got some really great
reviews and I want to thank you all. To answer some questions: I can’t tell you what is up with the
voice. It will give too much away too soon. I have left hints throughout the story but believe me
when I say that once it is told everything will become clear. This IS a Harry/Draco story so, yes;
Harry and Draco will get together, though not soon. Another chapter or two (LOL). Like I said this
will be a long story so I hope that each and every one of you stick around till the end!
Enjoy!
