Thanks for the great reviews!
I'm (unfortunately) going to take a break from my writing for a while but since there is nothing worse than an incomplete story (in my opinion), I will finish this story off first.
We're nearing the end of this particular fanfic-only one more chapter to go after this and I hope it will meet your expectations =)
Hermione heard Lucius' curse and ran into the office. In front of him, on the floor was a broken bottle of what appeared to be Firewhiskey. "Lucius?" she asked tentatively as he turned to face her, eyes filled with rage.
She immediately went to him, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him down so he could rest his head against hers. She felt his muscles quivering and couldn't stop the slight shiver of fear that went through her.
Lucius was angry and, even though she knew he would never hurt her, an angry Lucius was an intimidating person. His arms came around her waist as he pulled her in for a hard kiss, his normal passion overclouded by rage. Hermione waited once he had kissed her. He would tell her in time.
"This bottle had love potion in it", he hissed, his arms tightening around her as he felt her tense.
"Someone managed to put…what happened to the protective wards around the Manor?" Hermione tried to hold back her own anger. She had a feeling she knew exactly who it was and her hands were itching to throw curses at that particular person.
She listened as Lucius explained the wards hadn't been activated since he had thought they had "nothing to fear". Hermione was just grateful for his potion recognition skills. She tried not to think of the results if the intruder had succeeded.
"What are you thinking of?" Lucius' low murmur brought her back from her thoughts and she saw he was studying her closely and whatever he saw had a spark of fear entering his eyes. "Hermione?"
She pulled him down for a kiss, brushing her lips gently against his before stepping away. "I have a certain witch to deal with", the words echoed around the hollow room and she saw the spark of understanding enter Luicus' eyes before she apparated away.
Narcissa waited impatiently in her room for Lucius to arrive. "He should have had it by now!" She had borrowed a house-elf from an old friend, and it had accompanied her to the Manor and ensured the bottle of Firewhiskey was planted where Lucius would easily find it. It had been months now!
It was only a matter of time.
What she was not prepared for, however, was the Mudblood witch to burst into her cramped room with her wand. Before Narcissa could react, Hermione had warded the door closed and placed a silencing charm around the room.
Narcissa took out her wand. If it was a duel she wanted, that's what she would get!
Hermione turned back to look at Narcissa; her face, expressionless. Narcissa audibly gulped as she saw her brown eyes darken and narrow into slits, a smirk adorning her face as she spoke. "You tried to charm my husband".
It wasn't said as an accusation-simply a fact but the words contained such venom behind them that, if Narcissa had not been so desperate, she would have fled from the room.
Her pride made her stay although she shrunk back slightly from the figure in front of her. This didn't seem like the Hermione Granger who had been tortured in her parlour room by her sister, Bella.
If anything, at this moment, Narcissa could have sworn she looked more like Bella, the smirk on her face dangerous and feral.
After living with Lucius for over 40 years, she was well-accustomed to the traces left by dark magic and she could see it now, surrounding the Mudblood, potent and powerful.
"I…", Narcissa stopped. She could feel fear taking hold of her as Hermione watched her with the intensity of a predator. "He was mine first", the words came out strangled, her throat closing up.
She heard the sound of apparition but couldn't see anyone but the dangerous witch in front of her.
"Well…" Hermione's laughter was cruel, her power evident as she lifted her wand and easily disarmed Narcissa. "He's mine now. And nobody steals from me!"
The smirk on her face didn't belay the fire in her eyes as she gazed at Narcissa. "Please", her pride forgotten, Narcissa fell to her knees. The witch was scaring her, even more than Lucius had. "Please. I…I…apologise", she whispered the last part, her eyes pleading, her stance passive.
Hermione could feel her searching her eyes, her face for some sign of forgiveness or compassion but her hands were tingling with power. She felt compelled to use it.
The feeling was familiar. She had felt it once before, in a dream…only her quarry and the location had changed.
A curse, Hermione thought, a simple curse and then she would leave the pathetic, broken woman, weeping on the floor. Her wand hand steady, she aimed it at Narcissa, uttering the Cruciatus spell. Her screams echoed around the room but no one in the building below heard.
She could feel Lucius' presence behind her as he removed the invisibility spell and stepped forward, watching her. She glanced over her shoulder, her lips curving into a dangerous smile as she saw the approval and pride in his eyes. A part of her urged her to stop, begged her to remember who she was but who was she?
Until now she had lived a lie, trying to contain the full extent of her powers for her friends, the wizarding world, all those around her but now…
Hermione laughed with delight as she stopped the spell, watching the shudders rack through the frame of her opponent. Now she didn't have to hide. Her husband knew her and loved her, for all of her-even the dark aspects.
She meant to leave, she swore to herself as she later recalled the event. She had meant to keep an air of superiority and leave the witch to her plight but she found herself raising her wand again. The trembling figure in front of her was hardly recognisable as the former Narcissa Malfoy.
"Even you could have done better than a love potion", she hissed out, the spell leaving her mouth before she had time to think further, "Avada Kedavra"
As the bright, green light eclipsed Narcissa Malfoy, her eyes glazing over in shock and leaving behind her lifeless body, Hermione gasped. The darkness around her had subsided and the shock of her actions hit her at full force.
Lucius arms wound around her waist, turning her around to face him. He couldn't hide the pride he felt when had seen his witch fighting the woman who had shared his home for over forty years. "Lucius", her voice was confused, almost childish but he had seen just how much power she was capable of.
"You did it in self-defence", he murmured to her now, bending down to give her a soft kiss. It was a lie but the reality was too terrifying to comprehend.
"We are not like them, pet", his smooth voice whispered in her ear as she managed a smile and gave him another kiss, knowing which powerful couple he was talking about. The ones they had sworn to never become.
"Of course not", she murmured back, her voice ringing with a confidence that could only come from one who knew her capabilities.
It was a lie that they both allowed themselves to believe as they left the slumped form of Narcissa Black on the dusty ground of the dingy room, leaving it to be discovered by the Inn keeper the next morning, but both of them knew they had already broken their oath.
Hermione and Lucius moved to their new house, an isolated but luxurious place that reeked of magic from bygone times. They kept in contact with Draco, Hugo, Rose and the Potters through letters but neither wanted to return until the baby was born. They had hired a mediwitch to help monitor Hermione and eventually, deliver the baby.
The witch had told them that leaving the premises to have the baby would not be a wise choice. "This child seems to need more magical power surrounding it than most others…it tells me the child will be powerful in her own right".
Narcissa's funeral had been held a week after, what Hermione now referred to as 'the event'. Whenever she began to worry over what she had done, Lucius would soothe her. He had been trying not to think of just how powerful his wife was but every time she brought up the duel, he couldn't help the niggling thought that together, they could be invincible.
During the fight he could have attempted to stop her but she looked so beautiful and dangerous standing there, he admitted to himself that it was an arousing picture and that terrified him.
He blamed himself for what she had done. The bond between them meant their magic was combined, making each individual more powerful and he was certain the reason Hermione had used the spell was because his magic had overpowered her own.
Hermione completely disagreed with him. "Our magic was combined but you didn't utter the curse. I could feel it Lucius. The power, the excitement, the rage…it wouldn't have happened if I had kept my temper". But no matter how many times they went over the event, neither of them could find any regret in their actions.
They had both been worried about how Draco would react to the news but he had sent Lucius a letter saying, "The ministry's not sure what happened but I think she found a way to kill herself. She hadn't been herself recently. I'm sad but I think she'll be in a happier place now".
Hermione was working from home, after having been given the job at the Ministry. She would join Lucius in his study and complete the various papers she had to see to while he managed his business details. They were both happy with their life and Lucius had even suggested that they raise their child here. Hermione loved the idea but she was still slightly worried about the amount of Dark Magic surrounding the place.
"We don't want to raise another Dark Lord", she confided her fears to Lucius as they lay together in bed, her body against his as he placed his hand over hers, where it lay on her stomach.
"We won't. No child of ours will be stupid enough to think they can win a cause like that. Besides, she would be called the Dark Lady", he chuckled, pressing a kiss to the side of her neck as she stared at the night sky through the large window next to their bed.
"That's what I'm afraid of", she murmured back but relaxed as Lucius' hand started to travel down her body, stopping at her waist as his lips followed the trail. "Lucius!" she admonished lightly, her scolding tone overcome by her giggles. "Stop it!"
She had no idea how Lucius still found her attractive. Her dress size had gone up and she felt like a whale. But he still couldn't stay away from her and she smiled as he entered her from behind, parting her already wet folds and causing her to moan as he began to move. He buried his head against her neck, muffling his moans against her soft skin.
She was intoxicating and he couldn't get enough of her. Hermione's moans grew louder as he sped up slightly, still keeping his possession gentle and lightly squeezing her breasts.
His concern for her safety and the child's had kept him from taking her roughly, the way he knew she enjoyed more, for the last few months.
Despite this, Hermione still melted against his touch and screamed his name as the tight bundle of nerves at her core released and sent her into bliss. Lucius pulled her against him for a deep kiss as he gave in to his own release, his arms still tight around her.
They curled up together, satisfied and happy, secure in the knowledge that they had this love bond forever and their lives would only get happier as time progressed.
Please review! Only one more chapter to go =)
