Falling into Destiny
Chapter Twenty-three
Draco clenched his fists as he glared at the space you disappeared from. You wanted a divorce that much was obvious. And now he knew that you would try and play dirty to get it. You had teased him to the point of pain just to try to get him to agree to the divorce. It was unbelievable and yet it had happened. What was worse was the fact that his body still hadn't gotten the hint - you'd left him with quite the situation. The anger that he felt didn't seem to help. Nor did it help that he had no idea how to pay you back for that moment. It wasn't like he could storm into your room even if he knew exactly where you were staying now. He knew that you were staying at Diagon Alley; that much he had reasoned out on his own. The only other alternative was that you were with Blaise and his mother. That was not an option that Draco wanted to entertain in his head. It was better to imagine that you were in that dirty, run down inn than staying with the Zabinis.
The blond clenched and unclenched his hands as he tried to formulate a plot. Tomorrow you and he would be returning to Hogwarts. No doubt you would continue to try and get him to agree to the divorce. That or you would avoid him. Either way he felt like he could turn the situation around on you. After all, by your own admission, your control was slipping. And it wasn't like you could disapparate away from him at Hogwarts to get away. He could use that to his advantage. Even if you and he hadn't been close since he started Hogwarts, Draco knew that he knew you better than you thought. He knew your habits and he knew what you liked. He just needed to find a way to capitalize on the knowledge he had.
The more he started to plan, the faster his anger dissipated. Unfortunately the same could not be said of his arousal. Especially as he pictured the many places around the castle where you would thank him for his thoughtfulness. Draco resolved, however, that he needed to focus on one problem at a time. And as distasteful as it was, he knew he would need to see to his own needs. It wasn't like you would pop back into his room and do it for him. Though that was the fantasy that helped to spur him on till the end.
______________________________
After everything that happened it felt like you should be glad to see the large red steam engine. It meant the end of the winter holidays after all; you couldn't say that you had made any fond memories this year. In fact, most of them were downright horrible. Even the good moments were rimmed with negative ones. Like how fear and guilt clenched at your heart when you moved through the train.
You should have been happy about going back. And you were, in part. What you weren't happy about was the fact that now the Dark Lord would want you to seduce Harry Potter. He wanted you to distract the chosen one and bend him to your will. You weren't sure why but there must have been a larger plot in play. He must have been planning something around that. Which meant that he would expect you to do as you were bid regardless of your personal feelings. And you had those in abundance.
Trying to shove those aside, you continued to move through the train. Thankfully the winter holidays had given everyone plenty of things to talk about as they caught up with their friends. It felt liberating to be able to move through a crowd without getting stared at. For a moment it felt like everything could go back to normal. And in that moment your heart raced with hope and wonderment. There was no magic stronger than feeling at peace. However it was a fleeting peace as you realized that you had gotten to where the majority of the Slytherins converged on their way back to the castle. You felt anxiety creep up and grip at your insides, turning them this way and that.
Then everything clenched tightly, like a hard and painful ball of steel in your stomach, when you saw not only Blaise but Draco as well. You tried to avert your gaze away from them in an attempt to remain invisible in the crowd, though because of that fact you couldn't be sure if they had or had not noticed you.
Once again you were pleasantly surprised when nothing happened. You took a seat in one of the available areas. Unfortunately it was an aisle seat and your back was to the head of the train. That was the worst combination you felt. The only up side was that it was peaceful and the people sitting around you seemed more interested in reviewing their textbooks than gossiping. It was almost like Pansy's and Draco's rumors from the prior year (month really) were dead. And that caused you to smile to yourself as you took a deep breath. That peace lasted right up till you felt someone standing in front of you waiting for attention.
Slowly you looked up to see which person had come to steal your peace. Blaise stood there with a very stoic expression. Even if you had wanted to you wouldn't have been able to tell what he was feeling, much less thinking. Though given the situation you could venture some guesses.
"We saved you a seat."
The use of "we" set you on edge. You furrowed your brow as you tried to grasp the fact that he wasn't talking about just himself. No; if your quick scan from earlier meant anything then you knew that he had been sitting with Draco. Which meant that the boys were being civil with one another. And that was not something you expected to have happened in one day. Did the world turn on it's side or something? Because you were fairly sure that Draco had been in a very stubborn, foul mood just yesterday. As of yesterday, Blaise would not have been on the list of people you expected him to want to sit next to.
Feeling rather cautious about the whole thing, you got up and moved over to where they were sitting. The moment you got close, Draco stood up. He kept his silence as he waited by the table for you to move into the benched seat. You couldn't help but wonder what his angle was; what game was he playing? Regardless you didn't want to make a scene or fuss on the train. Especially considering that so far everything had been going quite well. When you finally sat down, Blaise did as well. Only instead of sitting right next to you as he expected, he took the window side across the table from you and Draco sat down beside him. Which meant that you could see both of their faces as they looked in your direction and that made it feel like you were about to be put on the spot or something. It was an understatement to say that you were nervous. Given everything that had happened so far you half expected a fight to break out or something. Where were their wands again? Maybe you should confiscate those until they were at the banquet...then again trying to do that would probably spark the fight that you were hoping to avoid.
As the train began, the wheels slowly turning, you let out a deep breath. You might have been concerned about the two boys suddenly able to get along well enough to sit next to one another, but at least nothing had happened. Not to mention you weren't getting stared at nearly as much as before the winter break. That was good. So regardless of the tense air you let yourself relax. A small smile found its way onto your lips as you leaned your head against the cool class pain. The chill was almost painful but at the same time it felt refreshing. Plus it felt good to lean your head; the seats were designed to recline after all. You couldn't wait to be back at Hogwarts in your own bed. Regardless of the daunting task ahead of you at least that was going to stay the same.
After a while of trying to forget the tension that sat before you, you pulled out a book to read. Unlike what you should have been reading this one held no educational value. In fact it was something that you'd picked up out of the head of a muggleborn wizard. Something that his, at the time, girlfriend had been reading. Apparently it was so good that she had ignored him plenty of nights in order to read; that part had been easy to figure out as you took his energy through his dreams after you ran away from the manor. What you couldn't figure out was how a book could hold someone's attention that thoroughly. So while you were away, and Draco had been sulking in his room refusing to come out, you had managed to convince that muggleborn staying at the three broomsticks that you had heard about it from someone else and wanted to read it. Considering how sleepy he had been and how dazed at your appearance he was, it was much easier than if you hadn't fed from him. Tired people were easier to manipulate after all.
And despite your reservations you had to say that the book was quite interesting. Of course, for a book in the wizarding world it was also a bit scandalous. Though the gender equalities seemed to be better in the magical world the whole aspect of sex or sexual attraction was kept much more hush hush. Though you had an interesting experience given what you were even you couldn't believe the outlandish tales happening in this book around a place of education. The characters in the book were supposed to be attending a place of learning but all they seemed to learn were different positions with which to give and receive pleasure. And there was an intricate plot and world built up as well. No wonder it held that girls' attention so well. It kept yours nearly the whole train ride.
You went to turn to the next page, eyes reading each word to unfold the plot before you and take in all of the romance going on. Only when you turned to the next page you felt your hand being stopped. With surprise at being caught so unaware you looked up to see who dared interfere with your entertainment. Draco and Blaise both looked very serious and it was quite unnerving to see them mirror each other's expressions.
"I see that Draco has been neglecting to be a good host," Blaise remarked.
What was he talking about?
Draco shot a sharp look in the direction of his old friend. No doubt that comment had rattled something inside of him. You were half tempted to tell Blaise that Draco and his family hadn't been your host for the last few days. But that kind of just seemed petty. The blond haired fifth year didn't let go of your hand as he stood up.
"Come on, it's time to change into our robes anyways."
Okay, this was quite strange. But there was a force and determination in his hands and eyes that wouldn't allow you to refuse. You grabbed your travel purse, which had your uniform tightly packed into it, and walked with him to the changing stalls. They were placed on either side of the toilet, the rooms no bigger than a private sitting car. It was smaller than an actually room but much larger than a closet. And of course they were split up between boys and girls. Not that Draco paid attention to any of that.
"I didn't think you'd be hungry this early," Draco said as he pulled you into the stall. "Didn't you get anything last night?"
Oddly enough that left you speechless. You stared at him as though he had just spouted off unintelligible nonsense. Which for you he had. He had gotten so upset that you took energy from everyone else just yesterday. In fact, that seemed to be his main issue with you. Draco had painted you as a whore and condemned you for it. But now he was casually asking if you took energy from anyone? Did he drink a potion you didn't know about or something? You couldn't help but worry what would happen if Blaise got a little territorial. He had seen Draco drag you off after all. Or had the boys come to some unholy agreement?
You watched like a bewildered creature, wide eyed, as Draco started to loosen the black tie around his neck. As he did so he popped a few of the smaller buttons around his collar. From how close you were you could see the veins just beneath the skin. You could practically taste him in the air. But instead of doing what came natural to you, you turned away from Draco. You wouldn't let him tempt you into going back on your word so easily.
"What are you doing?" Draco asked in a quiet voice.
"I told you that I won't feed from my husband," you said through clenched teeth.
"You'd rather Zabini be in here?" Draco asked, anger in his tone.
"I'd rather not have to do it at all," you said in a quiet voice. "Besides I'm not...hungry."
"You're lying. I saw your eyes," Draco commented as he stepped in closer.
You felt his hands on your upper arms. Unless you wanted to press yourself up against the wall there really was no place for you to move. The alternative was to try and throw him off of you but that wasn't appealing either. You didn't want to make a scene, especially on the train. You and he were in one of the changing compartments together. And commingling while undressing was extremely against the rules. Even Draco being a prefect and a member of the inquisitorial Squad wouldn't help. Especially if he decided to save himself and figuratively throw you under the train.
"And I felt your passion," he continued, his hands gripping your upper arms with a bit more force before relaxing.
Your lips pursed as you counted backwards from ten in your head. You wanted to tell him off for his assumptions. But at the same time you were embarrassed about it. You had been so involved with the book that you hadn't stopped to think about what could happen. Only recently had you found out that your touch invokes a reaction when you're hungry or aroused. And you had known for years that your eyes lit up when you were hungry. You hadn't known that they did the same when you were simply feeling amorous. That was just another complication that you had to add to the pile.
Draco surprised you when you felt him lean his cheek against the back of your hair. His arms quickly wrapped around you. Even though you felt his awakened desire from behind the hold didn't feel that urgent. It almost felt...nice. And you had to resist the urge to lean back and absorb his warmth far more than you cared to admit.
"You don't need to worry anymore. You know you won't kill me. And unlike that fool I'm not enthralled. I do this because I want to, I'm not under a spell or anything like that," he spoke out in a quiet voice considering that you and he were still in a compartment.
You could still somehow hear the scorn in his tone when he briefly mentioned Blaise once more. He must have really hated what happened this year. Especially considering that they had been friends in the previous years.
"Take what you need. You don't need to rely on people like Zabini to help you. You don't need to starve anymore. I will help whenever you need."
"Do you even realize what will happen if I only feed from you?" You asked in a sharp, assertive whisper.
"If you're worried about getting pregnant—"
Okay. So that hadn't been on your list of worries. But considering that it was the excuse that you'd given Blaise at the start it should have been. Especially as Blaise himself, by his own admission, was the son of a female cambion just like you. Which meant that it was yet another thing to worry about when it came to Draco. Great.
"No. Well yes, now I am but—"
He cut you off by interjecting, "Don't be. We can do things to avoid you getting pregnant. And besides so what if you were? We're married and you're graduating this year. It'll be expected some day. You'd be well taken care of."
"Draco that's not the original reason," you hissed.
You so did not want to have this conversation on the train. It felt like the wrong time and place. Especially with how his hands had migrated down to your stomach. You could almost imagine him rubbing a bump as it formed. He'd like to see you pregnant no doubt; a mark to show the world his prowess and vigor. But that wasn't something you looked forward to. Until a minute ago you hadn't even considered that in your list of consequences; you really should have but you hadn't. Regardless of your thoughts, it really felt nice as Draco splashed his warm palms across the shirt you wore. It felt even better as he slipped under the black velvet and started to massage your lower belly with those same warm hands.
You had even started to forget to object as you relaxed back into him. It wasn't until you felt one of his hands press into you after he slipped below the line of your skirt that you remembered that you had wanted to avoid this. You felt as he rolled and pressed his fingers with determination, feeling the spark of fire inside spring to life. And you couldn't lie. What he was doing, especially with how his other hand massaged your lower stomach, felt fantastic.
"Draco," your voice betrayed you. You had meant to sound assertive and warning. That had almost sounded like a whine.
"Enjoy it," he commanded. "I bet you Zabini never did anything like this for you."
That would have been a bet that he'd lose. But you didn't say anything to him about that particular topic. Instead you summoned all of the strength that you had to pull his hand away and get him to stop. As you held his hand, Draco straightened back up. Though you couldn't see it his brows were furrowed together as confusion overtook his face.
"I'm not in the mood."
"Would you stop lying? Or does it come so natural to you by now that you can't help yourself?"
You took in a deep breath and spun around to face him. As you did you dropped his hands and pushed at him, forcing him away from you.
"That. That right there is why I don't want you to touch me, much less be married to you. Hell, I've even tried to be nice and not criticize you but no matter what I do you're always mean. You make me feel like shit no matter what I do. That's why I kept going back to Blaise even if you guys are the same age. Unlike you, Blaise has never called me a liar or a whore."
"But he's not your husband," Draco said with clenched teeth.
"Exactly. But he still treats me better than you do. I'd rather have an affair with him than do anything with you anymore. Sex or no sex."
You felt the storm about to rise as Draco's temper rose to its threshold. Instead of waiting around you slid your wand down your sleeve so you could hold onto it. And within the blink of an eye you muttered a spell that would keep him planted to the spot he stood for a few minutes. That was long enough for you to step out into the hallway with your bag.
Blaise stood up when he saw you. "I thought you were going to change."
"The compartments were full. Draco takes a long time to do anything," like grow up or learn to play nice. "I didn't want to wait for him. I'll change soon."
Blaise had no reason to think that you were lying. So he accepted your answer as he sat back down. You couldn't help but feel like you had just made a terrible mistake with Draco even if it had felt right at the moment.
