Hey everyone! Only 1 day late instead of a couple weeks! That makes me happy. I hope it makes you ahppy to. Anywho, this chapter is all Draco and starts when Hermione left the Three Broomsticks. He's really tearing himself up over what he did. It does get pretty serious so I ended the chapter with laughter because its the best medicine. Response to reviews is at the bottom.
Draco watched Hermione walk out of the room and got up to follow.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Harry said watching him. “If you think a punch to the nose hurt, you’re going to be in much more pain in other areas if you follow her.”
“What am I suppose to do then, just sit here?” Draco asked.
“Stay here and tell the minister what was said to her at the ball, and I will go talk to her. I’ll be better at calming her down then you will be right now.”
Draco sighed and sat back down as Harry left the room. When he looked up, all eyes were on him, waiting for him to explain. He took a deep breath and started telling everyone what Patrick had told Hermione the night of the ball. He also told them of the things he and Hermione had thought he might do. “After the article came out on Tuesday, Hermione knew that people outside school wouldn’t be as accepting of us. I didn’t think much of it until this arrived on Wednesday.” He pulled the letter out of his pocket with his wand and sent it over to Kingsley. “Once I saw that it was composed of old Daily Prophet words, I stopped touching it.”
“Have there been any more threats of any nature?” Kingsley asked looking at the letter.
“Not to me. I’m not sure about Hermione.”
“She hasn’t opened her mail because she hasn’t been at breakfast the last two days.” Ginny said. “I’ll help her open them later tonight, and if there is anything, we will bring it to you, Headmistress.”
“Thank you, Ms. Weasley. You all are dismissed, but please use caution and watch out for each other.”
“Well, I feel like a drink,” Blaise said walking over to him.
“You always feel like having a drink.” Theo said. Before Draco could say anything, Theo added, “where is your mother Draco?”
Draco looked around. “I saw her leave about ten minutes after Harry,” Pansy said walking up to them with Ginny. “I’m thinking she went to talk to Hermione.”
“Oh, great. I need to find her before she says something unthinkable to Hermione.” Draco made his way out of the room, down the stairs and to the door when it opened, and almost hit him in the face, as Harry walked through.
“How is she? Will she talk to me? Where is she? Is my mother with her?”
“Breath Draco. Back up so we can get a table and I’ll answer your questions.” Harry shut the door and pushed past the group. Draco followed him to the bar as the others found a table big enough for them and their parents. “She’s better. I explained where you were coming from. She’s still pretty mad at you for not telling her about the letter, well, more hurt than mad, and yes, she is talking with Narcissa. Honestly, give her some time with her.”
Draco put his elbows on the bar and his face in his hands. “How did you get her to calm down?”
Harry took a sip of his butterbeer. “Reminded her that I broke things off with Ginny at Dumbledore’s funeral because I couldn’t bear to think about what could have happened to her if Voldemort knew we were together. Hermione had some understanding after that. She knows that you attempted to break things off because of how much you love her and because you want nothing more than to protect her and keep her safe.”
Draco contemplated that for a few minutes. “Gods, I’m such a fool.”
“Who knew being in love would do this to us?” Harry asked chuckling.
“Right? But now the question is, how do I make this up to her?”
“Just be honest with her. Answer all of her questions, honestly. Actually say ‘I’m sorry’ and with a little luck, she will forgive you enough to be in the same room as you.”
“Just the same room?”
“Give her time. You hurt her pretty bad. Plus, she knows she hurt you with the name calling.”
“Where is she?”
“By the Shrieking Shack.” Harry loaded up his arms with the Butterbeers as Draco turned to leave. “And Draco? Don’t buy her anything.”
Draco smiled. “Thanks Harry.” He grabbed his heavier cloak and started his trek to the Shrieking Shack. Once he saw the women in his life, he stopped and observed the sight before him. He could see that a small blue flame was in front of Hermione, even though her back was to him. Both Hermione and Narcissa were laughing. Great. Probably talking about me when I was younger.
Draco slowly inched forward and noticed the Hermione didn’t have a cloak on. No wonder why she had her blue flame.
“…he was so mad, that he broke my best vase. He had to stay in his room for the rest of the day and it was only nine thirty in the morning.”
Once he was close enough, Draco took off his cloak and draped it over Hermione’s shoulders, causing her to jump.
“Oh, Draco. There you are.” Narcissa said sweetly.
“Your mother with just telling me about the time you were seven and demanded the house elfs bring you nothing but chocolate frogs for breakfast.” Hermione said with a smile.
“Ah. Yes, I could throw quite a tantrum when I was younger.” Draco looked past the ladies at the Shrieking Shack.
“Well,” Narcissa said. “You two have a lot to talk about, and I must see Molly before I leave tonight.” She gave a hug to Hermione first. “Be firm, but not too hard on him. He’s still learning, too.” Then she pulled Draco into a hug. “Don’t let that ego of yours get in the way of having this young lady by your side. She needs you just as much as you need her.” Narcissa walked away, leaving the two of them alone.
“I’m not sure how to start,” Draco said shivering slightly.
“Follow me.” Hermione said simply. Draco followed her to the front of the Shrieking Shack.
“Are we allowed to go in?”
“Probably not. But it’s warm, not haunted, and there is no one to hear us talking.”
“All the stories say it is haunted.” Draco said following her inside.
“What the people of Hogsmead don’t know is that Remus Lupin came here to transform with his three best friends; Padfoot, Prongs and Wormtail.” Hermione continued upstairs and into the room she had been in with Harry and Ron during their third year.
“Wormtail I know, but who are Padfoot and Prongs?” Draco sat down next to her on the bed.
“Sirius Black and James Potter.”
“Makes sense.” Draco watched as Hermione produced a couple blue flames, thinking about the day at the lake.
“I know why you did it,” she said suddenly. “Doesn’t mean I liked how you handled everything, but thinking back, I honestly probably would have done the same thing. I just really wish you would have talked to me instead of us getting into a fight.”
“I know. I am truly sorry for how I handled this. It wasn’t fair to you.” Draco looked at his hands. “The thought of someone hurting me to get to you was something I wasn’t prepared to handle.”
“How could anyone be prepared for that? Honestly, if I had known that this was going to happen when we got together, I don’t think I would have changed a thing.”
“Really? Even with this threat?”
“Really really. You make me happy Draco. But one thing I have learned about this is to be more open about doing things you want to do and to not be so self-center. Then maybe you would have trusted me more to tell me about this letter.” Hermione starred into the blue flame.
Draco couldn’t stand the distance anymore, and pulled Hermione close to him. He kissed her forehead before saying, “I never should have said any of that. I am so sorry I made you feel like that. I’ve always been happy doing anything with you because we are together. I don’t ever want that to change.” He scooted off the bed and sat crisscross on the floor in front of her. He took both her hands and looked into her eyes. “Hermione Granger, I know that I am a pompous arse, but I also know that I am madly in love with you. If you decide to remain my girlfriend like I want you to, I promise to never make you feel the way you have these last few days ever again.”
“I will remain your girlfriend as long as you forgive me for what I said before I ran away, and as long as we truly work on our communication and trust.”
Draco smiled. “Of course I forgive you, just please don’t say it again. As for communication and trust, I’m not sure.”
“What?”
“Just kidding. I would like nothing more.”
“You prat!” Hermione said laughing as she shoved him, causing him to fall backwards.
Before either of them could say anything else, they heard the door downstairs open. Hermione quickly extinguished the fire and crept toward the bedroom door, Draco on her heels.
“See? No one’s here. Let’s go.” They heard Blaise say.
“You’re such a sissy,” Ron said. “This place isn’t haunted.”
Draco and Hermione looked at each other with smiles. Draco started making whistling wind noises as Hermione started making ghostly noises.
“Not haunted my arse! Let’s get out of here!” Theo said.
“Wait! What if whatever is here has Hermione and Draco?” Ginny asked.
Hermione could tell the others were on the stairs now. She pulled out her wand and shot a white cloud at them.
“AAAHHH!!!” They peeked around the corner just in time to see Blaise, Theo, and Ron falling down the stairs.
Draco watched Hermione sink to the floor, holding her stomach, tears streaming down her face, and laughing uncontrollably as he reached for the wall with one hand and clenching his side, laughing. Harry, Ginny, Daphne, and Pansy were all gripping the railing on the stairs, trying not to fall down them from laughing so hard.
“That’s not funny guy!” Blaise said as he struggled to get up.
“You made me break all the Butterbeer.” Theo added.
“Wait, here’s one,” Ron said holding it up. As he went to open it, it zoomed out of his hand and right into Draco’s.
“Thanks, mate.” Draco opened it and handed it to Hermione.
“Hey! I was going to drink that!” Ron said.
“After the last few days, Draco and I deserve this,” Hermione stated after she took a drink and handed it back to Draco. “We were actually about to head back to the Three Broomsticks.”
“Sounds great. We can get some more Butterbeer, say goodbye to the parents and go back to the castle because it’s really starting to stick out there,” Harry said.
“And Kingsley wants you to go through your mail to see if you got any letters like Draco’s.” Ginny added.
“Okay.” Hermione replied as Draco put his cloak over her shoulders again.
“Can we take the tunnel? It may be cold, but we won’t be icicles when we get there.” Ron said as everyone started towards the door?”
“Tunnel?” Draco asked looking at Hermione.
“If we take the tunnel, we can’t get more Butterbeer,” Harry said.
“How about you, Draco, Ginny and Hermione go get more Butterbeer and I’ll take everyone else through the tunnel?”
“Fine. But you still have to pay your portion.” Harry said.
“Yeah, yeah.” Ron lead the others to the trap door as Harry, Ginny, Hermione and Draco made their way out the front door and into the snow.
Thunderbird: Im so glad you like the way the last chapters turned out. Im glad to see your back on here for at least a little while. Im excited to know what you think about this chapter.
LadyShire: LOL all your questions will be answered in the next chapter when they sit down for their new nightly pillow talk. hermione will find out what snape said and Draco might reveal his plan (only to Harry and maybe Ginny) to hopefully get completely back into Hermiones good graces (unless my brain decides to change my story without telling me again). Until next time :D
