Harry dreamt of that blinding green flash. Grasping hands flailing in the dark unable to find him despite he was just a finger length away.
It took so little to just push.
There was a loud knock on his door that startled Harry to wakefulness. Someone had dispelled his protective spells on his door.
It was Sirius’s voice.
“Harry, You don’t want to miss the train.” Harry grumply affirmed his burgeoning wakefulness. Harry barely managed to find his glasses for his emerald eyes.
As he softly placed them upon their familiar place. The world came into focus once more and on his desk was that wooden pensieve filled with a shimmering silvery substance.
Why was his trunk open? He wondered. Everything was mostly packed, the almost broken locket, his clothes, supplies and more.
Why was there a fancy black wand? Harry wondered, He looked at the door but heard no footsteps. He hurriedly placed the unknown wand and his pensieve into moody’s trunk.
He tapped it.
“Reducio!” Moody’s trunk with seven locks slowly shrink to a hand held size and he placed it in his actual trunk and covered it with clothes.
He knew exactly where he’d hide it at Hogwarts.
The one place where only he’d be able to get to it.
The chamber of secrets. He’d only have to open it once. House elves could apparate despite spells of wizards and witches.
Harry went to his bathroom to retrieve his toothbrush from its resting place and he inadvertently dropped it the moment he looked in the mirror.
It took him a moment to realize. Harry didn’t quite realize who was looking back at him. Oh it looked like him alright but something was a tad off.
Something he couldn’t quite place. Harry would try not to draw attention to it. Perhaps, it was a result of the poor lightning?
“Lumos!” his wand ignited but the wizard light only seemed to magnify this strange otherness that seemed present on his face.
“Nox” The wizarding light extinguished. He placed his tooth brush, and the floss Hermione gave him into his trunk. He opened his door and there was Sirius. Looking surprised, “ Ready?”
Harry nodded even as he suppressed a yawn.
The rest of the morning was eerily uneventful.Harry ate as his body screamed for sleep. Sirius drove him to King’s Cross station and they intermingled. The moment he crossed into the station however, Something coiled in belly. A strange knot of trepidation.
That only grew as he approached his destination. Platform 9¾ Station, They waited in line as wizards and witches entered by twos and threes unnoticed by the muggles that surrounded them.
“Harry?” Sirius asked and Harry followed his gaze. He was gripping his trolley white knuckled. Harry released his surprising grip.
“Its okay-“ Harry turned and hugged his Godfather. He chuckled good heartly even as his embrace said goodbye.
Harry had no intention of returning. He didn’t know how yet, but he’d know the moment it happened.
Harry was dead, he was tired of copying a corpse. No matter how he wished it…
A hero died, he was merely taking his place.
“I’m ready.” Sirius looked at him perturbed but before he could say anything Harry crossed over to the wizarding platform.
The difference in the transition as one crossed from the muggle world was startling that humanity never knew of their magical brothers and sisters so close and yet so far apart.
Harry felt it then. A stark contrast to the wonders the wizarding world held. There were dark witches and wizards here.
He felt them. Sirius was about to say something to him when he tensed.
“Aurors? Here?” There was a palpable feeling of sadness. As a clearly dour auror immediately waved them over and they complied.
The auror immediately motioned for Sirius to follow him.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Sirius demanded as he followed him out of hearing distance. Harry looked around.
Something had happened. Something big had to have happened. There were aurors visibly about wands clearly at the ready.
Did the ministry decide Voldermort was alive? Did they know he existed? Harry watched as the other students got on to Hogwarts Express.
Sirius looked perturbed and deeply unsettled from whatever the told him as he was visibly shaken as he slowly returned.
“Harry, Get on the train and don’t say anything.” Sirius leaned and told him.
“My Cousin, Narcissa was murdered this morning. I have to tell Dumbledore.” Harry looked baffled at what it meant. Someone murdered a witch? Clearly Voldermort’s doing.
Harry hurried aboard.
There was another auror aboard the train patrolling the hallways. There were dark wizards in the compartments.
As he passed them. He wanted to let them know.
Let them know he knew them despite their appearances. They had tasted to strength of the Dark arts.
The darkness was here and like a ripple on a pond he touched the darkness. He hurried forwards peering into the compartments while he looked for his best mates. He struggled to keep his face straight.
It was something to behold. He heard compartment doors open and Harry nearly burst out laughing.
They had dabbled into the Dark Arts. They had flirted with the power it was capable of, He was a dark lord. They would serve one way or another…
He had no intention of suffering rivals. He would not be a student for long.
The strength of dark magic was potent. It was hilarious, just a simple touch to announce his presence. Just a mere simple fingerbrush to the darkness that surrounded them.
Harry wondered what happened if he did more. Something to experiment on…. Later.
“Harry!” Hermione exclaimed. “Hermione!” He exclaimed and followed her into the compartment and his best mates helped him put away his luggage.
Hermione closed the door.
She turned and hugged him and to Harry’s surprise. So did Ron, it was a half hug, but it surprised him all the same.
“We saw aurors and... And we didn’t know what was going on!” The Ministry didn’t want to acknowledge the simple fact Voldermort had returned. It took Harry a long moment to realize the connection.
Sirius was a pureblood. So that meant his cousin was a pureblood witch.
The Ministry was willing to overlook Voldermort? But the death of a pureblood witch was the thing government of the wizarding Britain couldn’t ignore? No wonder the ministry was so screwed up.
“I can solve part of that.” Harry remarked.
“An auror pulled me and Sirius aside and Sirus looked worried and had to inform Dumbledore right away. His best mates looked at him curiosity gnawing at them. Harry couldn’t help but draw it out for a moment. He took a breath
“Sirius said, His cousin was murdered this morning.” “Blimey!” Ron cursed as he sat down.
“Did he say their name.” Harry nodded.
“Sirius said her name was Narcissa.” Ron cursed loudly.
“Harry, Isn’t that Draco’s mum?” Harry blinked.
“Yes, She was on that tapestry in the order’s headquarters.” Ron recollected.
“That’s something the ministry will have to investigate.” Harry and Hermione looked at each other. Clearly, they had missed something important. There was context missing and apparently even Hermione didn’t pick up on it either.
“You both know the Malfoys are rich. And, And they are pretty serious about all that pure blood crap all those families constantly spout. “ Ron started gesturing with his hands.
Ron rambled for a bit.
“ She definitely is one of the sacred twenty eight.” Ron mumbled more to himself than them.
Harry looked at Ron and pointed to himself and Hermione.
“You remember we grew up in the muggle world right?” Ron looked at them sheepishly.
“The sacred twenty-eight refers to the pureblood families. The remaining pureblood families and the bloody Ministry will be forced to do something because the Malfoys are rich and because killing a pure blood witch will make all the other families feel like they are in danger.”
“Oh, that makes sense.” Hermione agreed.
“How do you not know this?” Ron asked flushed in embarrassment.
“We grew up with Disney. You know Cinderella?, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White?” Harry stated surprised Ron looked like he’d never even heard of them.
“Are those muggle diseases?” Ron asked clearly concerned. Harry just looked at Hermione.
“Ron, Disney is a major muggle entertainment company. Those movies are classic. Clearly, we have to show you those movies.”
“What’s a movie?” Ron asked.
“I honestly didn’t think that was going to make Hermione speechless.” Harry interjected. Hermione opened her mouth and closed it.
“Ron, I’ve seen a Telly at the Burrow.” She stated shocked.
“Does it use electricity?” Ron asked. Harry and Hermione nodded.
“You know electricity and magic doesn’t mix. So why would the wizarding world know what a movie is?” Ron honestly asked.
Hermione looked at Harry clearly at a loss for a moment. Harry quickly changed the subject.
“So Sirius gave me a house elf.” Hermione focused on him.
“Harry, That’s barbaric.” Harry agreed with her.
“I know, Which is why I sent him to Hogwarts.” She sniffed and pulled knitted clothing out of her bag.
“It’ll be faster now I can use magic again.” Hermione stated seriously.
Ron looked at her confused.
“Why did you knit?”
“Because, If I can free a house elf, it’ll be one step closer to SPEW’s goals.” She stated matter of factually.
Ron looked at Harry clearly asking him to intervene.
“Hermione, I know you’re doing this with good intentions. But-“ He held up his hands.
“But, have you considered that by doing so you’re making it worse for them? “ She was about to say something scratching but Harry interrupted her before she got going.
“Hogwarts is a place where we know elf legislation is followed. And we both know Dumbledore wouldn’t allow cruelty on the grounds. If you free those house elves aren’t you directly placing them in harms way by wizards and witches who don’t follow elf legislation?”
“You don’t know if Hogwarts follows elf legislation!” She protested testily.
Harry sighed so he pulled the Dumbledore trick.
“Ask Dumbledore, And if Hogwarts isn’t following the legislation. I will help you knit.” Harry replied placatingly.
She looked at the knitted clothes.
“But, I’ve done so much already. It would be a waste not to give them.”
Harry snapped his finger.
“Dobby, would love them for sure.”
She sniffed.
“Don’t think I won’t ask Dumbledore.” Hermione pulled on her robes the prefect badge clearly presented on it.
“Come on, Ron” She announced, and Ron sighed and pulled his robes on. His prefect badge gleaming in the sunlight.
“We have to watch the first years”
They both sighed.
Harry chuckled as he sat down and slumped over onto the comfy cushion of the compartment.
“Have fun being Prefects!” He sleepily stated as he closed his eyes. Content to snooze and he deliberately ignored what they replied to him.
They'd wake him when they got to Hogwarts!
