~~~CROATIAN~~~
It took just over quarter of an hour to reach the apartment, because there were a number of steep hills and twisty roads to negotiate. There were also other cars who tried to edge them out of the way. Their driver had a range of uncomplimentary epithets [which the passengers understood via their talismans] which he hurled at the other offending drivers through his open window. Upon arrival Janos drove on to a low walled platform jutting out of the cliff edge below them. Only when they alighted did the magely party see that the platform was on the roof of their apartment. There were others in similar situations on that road, but their abode was at the apex. Thus, all the other apartments were on a lower level. As the advertisement had said. They were not overlooked, unless, of course, that someone was on their parking lot.
Having alighted and descended the open unguarded stairs on the side of the parking lot; which terminated on a small platform that appeared to be cantilevered out from the side of the wall. Turning through the door they entered the living area which was L shaped around the kitchen at the back. This was where Janos dumped their luggage. The room also had windows on three sides, engineered like an enormous bay window. The front set slid open to lead on to a shaded balcony. The views over the city and to the sea beyond were stupendous and made up for the slightly seedy nature of the furnishings, not that they were dirty. Each of the adjacent houses had been engineered so they also shared that view, but their windows and balcony were likewise hidden from scrutiny by the bulk of their car parks. It was obvious that the neighbourhood had seen better days.
Draco curled up his nose as he looked round.
H: *It’s only for a week, Dray. It’s a bit threadbare but it appears clean.*
D: *I s’pose so!*
Janos indicated they should follow him. Turning round and looking back along the wall where they had entered was another door. This led to another set of enclosed steps beneath the first flight. Thus, creating an upside-down house. That floor held four rooms, of which one contained some sort of machine and some cabinets.
D: *What are those, Harry?*
H: *They look like drying cabinets - for wet clothes, Draco.*
D: *And the thing with a round window?*
H: *A clothes washer.*
D: *What about the elves?*
H: *Muggles don't have elves to do their washing.*
D: *Oh yes! How ingenious. A mechanical washing elf. What else does it do?*
H: *Apart from partially drying the clothes, nothing.*
D: *Our elves are more versatile.*
H: *Unlike our elves, the machine only does what you tell it to do.*
D: *That's because you don't beat them enough.*
H: *DRACO!* Harry's sending sounded shocked.
D: *Alright! Alright! Only joking!*
When Janos showed them, it was obvious that the bedrooms were versatile. The two single beds could be easily joined to make doubles, or even piled upon each other to create bunks. Two of the rooms were made up as doubles. The ensuite consisted of a toilet and a washbasin. On further exploration they found that one of the drying cabinet doors actually led to a curious communal shower. Curious because they had to go down a couple of steps into a square tiled area resembling a shallow bath with shower heads arranged around the sides. On inspecting the door more closely it was found to have a waterproof seal.
Draco thought that that had all kinds of sexy possibilities.
As they unpacked Draco remarked: "How did they know we would want the double-bed arrangement?"
"Didn't you see the discrete rainbow badge on Janos's lapel?"
"No! Why does that make you not surprised?"
"He's gay, same as us."
"Oh! R-i-g-h-t! Nice one Dudley, obviously you knew where to book."
Janos's head poked through the door close to where Draco was standing: "Everything to your satisfaction?"
"Yes, thank you, Janos." Draco gave him a big kiss on the cheek and pressed a couple of ten euro notes into his hand.
That caused a change in his previously gruff nature: "Oh good! We thought you might be."
"How so?"
"The route your computer used to book us. There are other sites but only one gay one that we advertise on. In fact, we get the greatest majority of bookings that way. So, you can be sure of our discretion."
H: "Good to know, thanks!" *I wonder how far that discretion goes. Would he baulk at us being magical?*
D: *Let's not test that one yet, Lover. Build up his confidence first. He’s only just become polite.*
H: *Fine!*
"What do you want to do first?" Janos asked: “Gay-bars, laze around, sightseeing, sunbathing, sailing, Mmm?"
"We'd like to get the general feel of the place first and then decide. Any ideas?"
"I can take you to the Pile Gate and you could walk along the main street we call the Stradun ..."
Draco held up his hand: "... Come on to the balcony and point things out please?"
"Okay!"
The two seers called the two Italians out of their room and all five went upstairs onto the balcony. Janos knew his geography and could explain all the normal visitor sites as well as indicating some of the ones with a particular gay interest.
D: *We need to wander around the perimeter with our ley-line testers.*
H: *Um yes!* "Can we walk round the walls, Janos?"
"Not all the way. If you start there, you can go round that way and end there."
"How long would that take?"
"Two to three hours?"
"Any cafés between the end point and the starting place?"
"Quite a few, but none are gay oriented."
"Fine! If after we've unpacked and had a fruit juice, you could take us there and pick us up four hours later at the same place; that'd give us time to walk round and have some lunch."
Draco looked at the two Italians: "That seem alright to you?"
"Make it six hours, Draco. We have a couple of places you might like to see too."
"Very good, six hours it is. Set off in half an hour’s time, yes?"
He got nods of agreement from all his listeners.
~~~ SEARCHING ~~~
As the mages walked round the walls, one of the Italians would stop and point out some landmark to one of the seers. The places were chosen so that there was a sheltered corner or alcove where the other Italian and seer could operate the ley-finder. It all took time. After lunch they covered the strip near the harbour where the walls were unavailable. They had to be even more circumspect about operating the indicator. The result was that, when Janos picked them up, the quartet had aching feet, stiff backs and only two sightings of the Urdd-Jerusalem line. One as it entered the city and another as it left.
Janos dropped them outside the apartment and went off to pick up some more clients. They mages climbed carefully down the staircase and entered the door. As soon as they entered the door, they smelled it - the delicious aroma of dinner. There were also two elves in attendance - Robbie and Bobby.
"What are you two doing here?"
"Looking after our masters and their friends, Draco."
"Who gave you permission?"
"We don't need permission to serve you. It's our job."
Harry could see confrontation looming: "I'm glad you came. We're tired and aching from our searching, and Draco's a little peeved at having only found one ley-line." *Be gentle, Lover. It's not their fault.*
"We thought you might be so the bath's ready with relaxing potions in them."
"Thanks. C'mon Draco." Harry dragged his mate downstairs towards their room. There they undressed and returned holding their towels.
They entered the bathroom, closely followed by two naked Italians. There they found out why there were steps, because the whole room was now a bath about eighteen inches deep. Both pairs hung their towels on the hooks beside the door and sat opposite their mate top-and-tailed. Herbal potions and reheating charms had them refreshed enough to consider more intimate sports. Sitting with alternate legs entwined they could use the inner foot for giving each other pedal pleasure. Summation over, it was drying and dressing as the water gurgled out of the area. Then it was dinner time during which there was a discussion as to the next step. It was either go north-west or south-east along the ley line. They eventually decided south-east before retiring for more loving games and sleep.
###
Morning came and so did Janos, for breakfast. That was after they had had a quiet time, being Sunday; they said some prayers together and sang a hymn. Luckily, he was unable to descend the outer stairs without making a noise, so the elves were able to pop away before he opened the door. He therefore discovered Draco and Maximiliano laying the table whilst Harry and Vittorio were busy in the kitchen finishing off the cooking that the elves had started.
"Hello Janos. Fancy some breakfast?"
"If I'd known you were making a big one, I'd have forgone my earlier one. Just a glass of orange juice, please?"
D: *He seems more relaxed this morning. Could be quite likeable.*
H: *Yes! Not bad looking without yesterday’s scowl.*
There was some general chit-chat over the meal until Janos asked what they wanted to do that day.
"We thought of doing a coastal walk towards Dubravka."
"That’s a long way to go and the coast is very rocky. If you want to see that part of the coast, you'd be better hiring a boat. As it so happens, we have one available and I'm licenced to steer it."
Maximiliano guessed that the seers wanted to conference internally, so he asked Janos to tell them about the sights that would be of interest.
H: *That'd be a good way to survey even more than walking.*
D: *What about the ley-finder?*
H: *It looks a bit like muggle video camera.*
D: *What's one of those?*
H: *Takes the pictures you've seen on TV.*
D: *Very good!*
"... Then there's the cave, just about here," Janos pointed on a map he had produced: "Said to have been use by the partisans to harass the occupying forces during the last world war."
"Very good, that sounds like a nice day out. Let's do it," Draco said with forceful enthusiasm: "But not before Max and I wash up the breakfast things and Harry and Vito tidy up the beds." He looked at Janos: "Do you need to tell anyone what we're doing?" *Tell the others what we intend doing.*
H: *Got it!*
"Yes, I'll get Uncle to get one of the others collect the taxi from the landing-stage. I can use my mobile to do that while you do your chores."
Each seer took an Italian and told them about the deception. Harry even managed to let Robbie and Bobby know too.
###
It was fun winding in and out of the many Croatian bays, they almost went as far as the border with Montenegro. Quite soon they were only wearing shorts as they enjoyed the warmth of the Adriatic. There were not many islands this way. However, in one of the quiet coves they anchored and stripped completely to dive into the clear water.
During the voyage, as Janos watched the pretend video camera being used. The different way whichever mage was operating made him become more and more sure that the ostensible use was not its proper function. However, as they were clients he did not ask outright; just watched carefully.
Things came to a head when, halfway back [after no new thaumic result] the engine spluttered to a stop. On top of that a thunderstorm was building up and they could see the squalls approaching. Janos was beginning to panic, because he said he dare not put up the sails in the approaching wind.
"Stop that, Janos, be calm."
"How can I, we'll be swamped if the storm hits us out here."
D: *We'll have to tell him.*
H: *Fine, you explain whilst I take the helm.*
"Let Harry take the tiller, Janos. We've been in storms like this and survived."
"You sure?"
"Give me the tiller, and we'll outrun the storm."
Very reluctantly Janos gave over charge to Harry, who unobtrusively cast the Navigamus charm and Janos felt the surge of propulsion.
Open mouthed he asked: "How did you do that?"
"Never mind how, show me which of those three islands to steer between."
"Err ... Those two!"
"Good! Now go and talk to Draco, he'll tell you how. But come back as we go through that passage, so's I know where to go next."
"Yes Sir." Janos was white faced and shaking in astonishment.
There is no real need to relate here the conversation between Draco and Janos. It included a minor demonstration and swearing him to secrecy, plus an instruction to call them all by their given names, as well as a description of ley lines and their thaumic significance. Thereafter a continually astonished Janos stood next to Harry and pointed out the safest passages ahead of the storm.
They arrived in port safely and, within five minutes after tying up, the storm started. In port it was a little choppy, but the biggest hazard were the hailstones unleashed by the thunder clouds. Those they escaped by sitting inside the taxi, which Janos’s Uncle had already parked nearby. There was no point in driving in the storm due to the poor visibility, which Janos informed them, would last for about half an hour. So, they sat and chatted.
Janos was still curious: "Does that mean you could have propelled the boat all the time, Harry?"
"Yes, but I'd be very tired. Draco would have had to take over at some time."
"And I'm not as skilled as Harry," Draco admitted.
"Would you teach us that one please?" Vittorio asked.
"Tomorrow, if Janos can borrow the boat."
"It's free. The people who cancelled had asked for it to be available for two days. I take it that you'd like to go north."
"Yes, maybe we'll find the other ley-lines. That'll then give us pointer where next to look."
Janos told them of more islands and what could be seen there. Whilst this was happening, the storm abated and the sun reappeared, so he drove them back to the apartment, where he was introduced to the two elves and shared the prepared dinner. Afterwards, he sat chatting with them on the terrace, drinks in hand; watching the sun go down over the distant tatters of the storm.
In the end he stayed the night, because Robbie and Bobby were only using one of the other beds. This time, all seven of them shared the communal bathroom.
After they had hung their towels Janos inspected the goods on show: "They don't look extra-large to me. We're all very much the same size."
Draco grinned at him: "It’s the erect members that are measured, Janos. They are relaxed at the moment."
Janos grinned back and reached towards the nearest shower head. Something the mages had not noticed in the steam during the previous evening. It was detachable as well as adjustable. As he unhooked it, he set it to the smallest squirt possible, making it shoot the furthest. This column of water he aimed at Draco's nether regions.
"Let me see then?"
Harry was the first to react and within a minute had his squirt aimed at Janos's pubic area. All too soon each magical had a shower-head in his hand.
D: *Hot and cold on Janos?*
H: *Oh yes!*
Using their linked minds, they soon had the Croat's cock crimson and hard. That set an example and within minutes everyone else was in the same position.
Janos looked at Robbie: "Size for size, his is bigger than yours, Draco."
"He's a wholly magical being, Janos. So, I would expect he is. His magic is tempered by his size and his need to have a master in control. Whereas we are half human and half magical; that is our limitation."
"Draco, stop the dissertation and start the chain," shouted Harry.
"Very well!"
Draco grabbed Vittorio's cock and began to wank him. Vittorio knew the game and grabbed Harry's who in turn took hold of Janos's. Janos understood what was happening and grabbed Maximiliano's who took hold of Draco's. The two elves dealt with each other. Even when Harry yelled: "Change!" Janos seemed to know the score and soon had a handhold on Harry's hard-on. The game finished almost simultaneously when a number of white blobs were washed down the plughole.
"I see now what Draco meant about sexual and magical potency being interlinked," remarked Janos with a leer: "If I had the gene I would be about Vito's or Max's strength. Scaled down Harry and Draco would almost be the same size as the two elves."
Maximiliano chuckled: "I'm glad that I'm not Draco."
"Why's that."
"Having to accommodate Harry’s oversized cucumber in my arse."
The company chuckled and then, pink-pricked, they pranced to their rooms and bed-wards.
"It's not oversized," whispered Draco, when they got into bed: "It's just right for me, and I want it now."
Harry spooned up to his lover: "One pink cucumber ready for service, at your behest, kind sir!" and shoved it all the way in.
Draco sighed contentedly as his prostate received the attention it craved.
Having recently ejaculated, their lovemaking lasted longer.
~~~ DAY THREE ~~~
The following morning had them in the taxi and to the harbour. The North westerly direction had even more islands than on the previous day. It was not until they had had a swim and lunch that they found the first new ley line. Then, within the next hour they identified all the others. Draco marked down on his map where they crossed the shoreline but, owing to the undulation of the waves, it was difficult to accurately spot in which direction they ran. Going out to sea could help, but triangulating from a moving boat was difficult, so they decided to go on land the following day and make more plots.
As there was no storm threatening, Harry was persuaded to teach the Navigamus charm to the two Italians. They found an open patch of sea with few boats on it and the lesson commenced. Steering a boat is not like steering a wheeled vehicle. Janos proved the best teacher for steering; getting the two Italian mages to think in curves. Next, Harry had one trying the charm whilst the other steered, then they swapped over. It was hilarious the number of mistakes they made. Too tight turns nearly swamped the boat. Accelerating when going down the wave had water coming in over the prow. Draco was kept busy for half an hour using bailing charms. Eventually the two novices got the hang of it and the team arrived back in port in one piece.
As on the previous day they shared a meal and sat on the balcony afterwards. At some time, Janos telephoned his uncle telling him that he would be staying over at least another day and asking for the taxi to be available. The reply came back that the taxi had been booked by the people who had cancelled so there would be no problem. Whilst on the balcony Draco produced his map and they had a go at plotting the vicinity where the ley-lines crossed. Janos worked out with them a zigzag set of roads which would cross and re-cross the supposed lines. After some more relaxing some watery high jinks were indulged, as on the previous night.
###
Morning came, they breakfasted together and then took route eight. This time they crossed the Franjo Tudjman bridge where the views from it over the sea were very good. Janos explained how the Ombla River was fed by a series of underground caves; whose catchment area was inland beyond the mountains. The road was new, but there were very few stopping places, especially near the marks that Draco had made on the map. Two or three times they had horns blown at them, and various Serbo-Croatian rude epithets hurled at them from open windows. That induced Janos to exercise his extensive abusive vocabulary in their defence, not that it ever came to blows.
It was not an ideal situation for taking delicate readings on the ley-finder. Once this was pointed out, Janos said that he knew of a minor road below this and, having found a suitable intersection, they returned along it. Being a local road there were vehicles parked along it and people wandering around. A couple of times some of the local lads posed in front of what they thought was a video-camera.
A couple of rough looking teenagers thought it funny to moon at them.
“So, you want to act in a gay movie, and fuck each other, do you, dearies?” Janos asked saucily, [the mages understood via their scarabs}.
The teenagers gasped, hastily drew up their jeans and ran off blushing. From a safe distance they turned and made some highly uncomplimentary remarks before flipping a finger and making themselves scarce.
The elves had provided some cool drinks in a thermos flask so, after the first run whilst they sipped, Draco made some rough plots based on his findings. The next job was to find a road higher up the mountainside. There was nothing that ran parallel with the coast as the previous two roads had done nor were the chosen lanes that wide. However, there was little traffic and places where vehicles had pulled on to gravelly areas to pass each other. They managed to plot two more ley-lines before it was time to set up their canvas arbour and have lunch. Janos did not want to move immediately afterwards. The mages agreed with him.
“Had we been in the boat we would have swum to keep cool.”
“That’s why I brought the arbour. At least we’ll be in the shade and the sea breeze will help.”
They lay on the picnic rug snoozing and occasionally moving over to stay in the shade. Draco was the first to stir as he began to join up the plots to make lines on the map. He found an intersection where three crossed.
“What’s Podimoc Grad, Janos?”
“A ancient fortress that even the more adventurous tourists don’t go to see.”
“Could you take us there, please? It’s not too far from where the lines cross each other.”
“Okay … Err … Don’t you want to plot the other lines?”
“I will if this doesn’t work out.”
“Okay give me another quarter of an hour.”
Draco lay down again, but Harry could feel his impatience and internally counselled peace.
By three some of the heat was dissipating so the arbour was collapsed, and they piled into the taxi and motored on with all the windows open. The scenery was stunning. Limestone mountainsides, bushy trees with the green pillars of cypresses marking their progress. In contrast the lanes became narrower and steeper, many of them being potholed as well. Zigzagging, the taxi took them higher and higher. Then round a bend and the ancient fortress was in front of them.
“I think we should let my taxi rest a little. She’s getting hot.”
“Very well. We’ll go and do the tourist bit, whilst she cools down.”
Once inside the museum Draco was in his antiquarian heaven. The museum was small and appeared to glow red inside. However, the displays were well presented. From them he learned that the site had been inhabited since the Stone Age.
D: *Good hope of their being a megalith somewhere nearby.*
H: *When you’ve finished looking at the exhibits we can go up and look over the walls.*
Up on the walls, not only did they find the three plotted ley-lines but another one as well. They appeared to point up to a large inaccessible rounded crag above them.
They sat at the picnic table sipping the drinks they had just bought.
D: *Ideal spot for a stone circle or a dolmen, we’ll have to investigate.*
H: *Looks fairly inhospitable.*
D: *Janos did say that people went hiking through the mountains.*
H: giggling: *I don’t see you in denim shorts, thick boots and a heavy rucksack.*
D: *There’s always a glamour.*
H: *Fine.* “Draco thinks we should go up there to investigate.” Harry poimted.
“That’s a long slog,” ventured Janos: “There are no roads up there and almost no people either. There are some hidden paths, however. We’re close to two other borders and the smugglers use them occasionally.”
Maximiliano looked round to make sure they were not overheard: “We could fly, couldn’t we?”
“You intend hiring a helicopter?”
Harry chuckled: “We have other ways of flying, Janos, and they’re silent too.”
“Some new technology then?”
“No! Ancient magic. We’ll use our broomsticks. What we need is a quiet place to start off. Somewhere not overlooked. It’s a bit far from the apartment and people will see us. If we did it at night they wouldn’t, but we wouldn’t be able to survey the ground properly.”
“The family owns an old quarry not so far away. Few people go up there. C’mon I’ll show you.”
The lane was alright to begin with. First it lost its tarmac, then there were weeds growing up its middle, then it turned into a faint track. At one point, Janos got out and talked to someone at an old stone-built house and obtained a key, driving to a locked gate.
Harry had to use a lubricating charm before the padlock would open. Then they bumped along slowly for another half mile. The zigzag had them almost above the gatekeeper’s lodge. Harry reckoned it was about one-in-ten inclination until they reached the almost level quarry floor. Janos did not stop there but assaulted another half mile of zigzag track, steeper, narrower and bumpier than the previous one. This quarry was above the other and even more deserted. However, there was a patch of weeds and a large hole with water in it. A small waterfall fed it and a stream took the surface water away.
“My friends and I used to come up here in the school holidays. We’d play soldier games in the scrub.” Janos looked sad: “Some got killed in the civil war too. I’ve not been up here since.” He sighed and shrugged his shoulders: “Time to put away those regrets. With you here I’ll learn some new adventures, no doubt. I don’t think our tents will be any good now. So, we’ll have to buy some more.”
“I think we can deal with that, Janos. You know about us already so a little more won’t hurt.”
“What do you mean?”
Draco tapped his nose conspiratorially. Harry set up a homing beacon.
“Robbie!”
Pop: “Yes Harry?”
“Where did you come from?”
“I used the homing beacon.”
“Oh!”
“Could you find the tent we used a couple of years ago, please?” Harry asked.
Pop: Bobby appeared with a large package: “We thought you might want it. We’ve checked it out and added the bedrooms. Where do you want it?”
“Where did you used to camp, Janos?”
“Over here. Look you can still see the faint marks where our tents were.”
“Facing the pool, I think, Bobby.”
“Okay: Erecto Tabernaculum!”
Janos gasped as the tent grew up and set itself out: “Who’s that for?”
“All of us!”
Janos grinned: “We’re going to be very lovey-dovey. Do we all share one sleeping bag, Draco?”
“You wish! No, we’ll have separate cubicles.”
“You’re joshing, of course.”
Robbie grinned at him: “Why don’t you look inside. Just make sure your scarab is touching your skin though!
Janos shook his head and looked puzzled.
Harry grinned: “You’ll be pleasantly surprised. Go on!”
