Harry woke—to find himself nearly nose-to-nose with a bleary-eyed Italian. He shouted in alarm and scooted backwards a few feet.
“Oh, calm down, Potter, I’m not going to ravish you. Though I’m honestly surprised it was you who woke up today, and not Shiloe.” He said, then yawned. “Besides, you smell different. If you don’t smell like mate, I have no reason to want to go after you.”
Harry took a deep breath, and Shiloe began speaking. ‘Tell him to come by after dinner. We have some work to do.’
Harry sighed. “Shiloe says to come by after dinner. He has plans for you.” He dutifully relayed.
“What plans?” Blaise asked.
‘DADA training.’ Shiloe told Harry.
Harry snorted. “He says you need to train in Defence.”
Blaise sighed. “Of course I do, but I’m not some prodigy like you, or him.” He said. “It doesn’t come as easy to me.”
‘All the more reason to train hard. I want him protected, even if I’m not there. Tell him that.’ Shiloe said.
“He says you need to train harder to make up for that. He wants you protected even when you aren’t with him.” Harry explained. “And... Could you close your eyes?” He flushed.
Blaise sighed. “I’ve seen it all already.” He said, but closed them all the same.
Harry scowled as he got out of bed. “It’s the principle of the thing.” He said. “Alright, I’m leaving. You can call Tuney, my elf, and tell her to get you some clothes from your dormitory.” He said, then fled the room to head to Helga’s.
“I can’t believe you let me wake up to that!” He hissed under his breath as he got his things ready for his shower.
‘Insult my anchor again, and it will be the last thing you ever do.’ Shiloe snarled in his head.
“It wasn’t an insult to your anchor, just the whole situation in general!” Harry added as he went into the bathroom.
‘Either way, watch what you say about him. He’s got it hard, and the last thing he needs is more strife.’ Shiloe said.
“Whatever. I need to get ready. I have Charms, Herbology and double transfiguration today! All core classes.” He shook his head. “At least I know all those teachers well.” He mused.
Shiloe snorted. “I wish you luck. I'll take over right after dinner.” He said.
Harry nodded. “Deal.”
Harry showered and got ready, happily not running into Blaise again. He got down to breakfast and sat in between Luna and Neville. “So this morning was interesting.” He muttered.
“You’ll get used to it.” Luna said evenly.
“I don’t want to get used to waking up in bed with other males, Luna!” He hissed.
Neville snorted into his pumpkin juice. “Who was it?” He asked, smiling.
“Blaise Zabini.” Harry muttered.
Neville nodded. “He’s an okay bloke, though. I’m sure you survived the experience. Draco, on the other hand, might have flayed you alive.” He remarked with a grin.
“You’re not doing too bad with him.” Harry shot back.
“I think he’s just trying to one-up Cedric by dating me. I like them both, so whoever I end up with next year will be fine with me.” Neville said.
“They are actually both equally serious about you.” Luna said, eating while she read.
Harry and Neville gave each other significant looks.
“Luna, how could you possibly know what motivates the most Slytherin person in our year? He’s a master at playing people.”
Luna looked at Harry, tilted her head, then smiled. “Neville is the one thing he is serious about.” She said. “Now let me finish breakfast, I’m going to be late to class today if I don’t leave early.”
“Why?” Harry asked sharply.
“Marrietta Ed—” Her eyes narrowed as she noticed the minute shift in posture. “Shiloe, you can’t beat up the other Ravenclaws!” She told him sternly.
Shiloe scowled. “Like hell I can’t!” He snapped. “If they want to bully you, they can damn well go through me!”
Luna smiled. “Shiloe, you know you’re too strong to go up against a silly little schoolgirl. It wouldn’t be a fair fight.” She pointed out.
Shiloe stared at her in silence.
Luna sighed. “I know, it’s not fair of her to go after me either, but she’s not going to hurt me. Just inconvenience me a bit.” She shook her head. “You’d hurt her, you know you would.”
“She deserves it.” He muttered, but sunk back and let Harry surface again.
“Harry, you need to make sure Shiloe knows that I don’t want him fighting my battles for me. The only reason he is leaving it right now is because he could feel how agitated it was making me—me—and he doesn’t want to upset me. If talking about upsetting the status quo bothers someone like me, he knows there is a reason for things to fall out the way they are right now. It would be best if he learned to leave it be for others, too.”
“Bullshit.” Harry blushed at Shiloe’s final outburst. “Sorry.” He muttered.
Neville laughed. “Shiloe putting one last word in?”
“Apparently.”
“I know it’s going to be hard—for Shiloe—but if I need help with anyone over bullying, which I don’t right now, I’m only going to ask Harry for help. He’s powerful, but is also on a par with the other students here. Shiloe is way too strong.”
Hermione and Ron made their way over to the table, sitting down opposite Harry. “What’s going on?” Hermione asked. “Luna seems unusually animated today.”
“We’re talking about bullying.” Luna said unabashedly.
“Oh.” Hermione said softly. “I know how that feels. Do you need help?”
Luna smiled. “Thank you for the offer, Hermione, but I was just explaining that if I do, it will be Harry I ask. But for right now, no, I don’t.” She finished her last bite, kissed Harry’s cheek, and headed toward class.
Harry watched her go with a sigh. “I worry about her.” He murmured.
“Worry about yourself. You have Herbology today.” Ron warned.
Harry smiled and slung an arm around Neville’s shoulders. “I have my best friend to help with that. Right, bestie?”
He turned a wide smile on Neville as Ron called out in indignation, “Oi! Traitor!”
They all laughed, and talk continued in a much lighter vein.

“Your stance should be a little wider.” Shiloe instructed Blaise. “And keep your head up, don’t look down at your feet.”
“You just kicked my feet apart, you’re the whole reason I’m looking down!” Blaise snapped in indignation.
Neville snickered.
“Nev, get your arse over here and take up a stance opposite him!” Shiloe added. “You know I’m not going to duel either one of you; I like you in one piece, and I like my lovers rare, but alive. I don’t want to get carried away and either freeze or fricassee you to death.”
Neville sighed and walked over to stand before Blaise. “Standard duelling form?”
Shiloe nodded once. “Yes. Don’t cast anything yet, I’m going to run him through casting a suitable shield and we will see how much power he can put into it after.” He turned to Blaise. “Your shields work, yes, but they fail a lot sooner than they should, and I need to know why.”
Blaise sighed. “I can tell you why.”
“Wait and let me see if I can suss it out myself. If enough Shiloe learn this this way, it becomes generational knowledge. If we just get told, it doesn’t. This is for posterity.”
Blaise sighed heavily and cast his shield.
Shiloe studied it. It looked good. “Stinging hex, Nev.” He said.
Neville nodded and cast.
It hit the shield and fizzled out.
“Stunner.”
Same result.
“Expelliarmus.”
Neville cast, and the shield came down and Blaise’s wand soared to Neville.
“There was no reason for that!”
Blaise growled and his eyes flashed amber. “I can’t hold a decent shield unless I’m protecting a lesser member of my pack!” He flushed. “And Remus never set up a hierarchy.” He mumbled.
Shiloe’s eyes widened. “Oh. We’ll rectify that. I never knew you needed it.”
“We all know that you are Supreme Alpha, and Remus is Alpha. I am beta, but we never hammered out who is above and beneath me. I was never told who to defend and who to defer to. My werewolf is still very unsure exactly where I stand and how powerful I need to be.” He added.
Shiloe nodded. “I’m sorry. I’ll set up a meeting this weekend, here, and we can all discuss where we all stand.” He grinned. “I do know for a fact that Harry is beneath you.” He told the Italian, who looked at him in shock.
“He is?!” Blaise looked absolutely floored. “How low is he in pecking order?” He asked.
Shiloe smirked. “Directly on the bottom.”
Neville’s eyes bugged out. “Below me?!”
“Below Luna.” Shiloe added.
Both other teens were stunned speechless for several long moments.
“I think I need to sit.” Blaise mumbled before sitting on the floor of the duelling room. “Why so low? He can protect himself!”
Shiloe shook his head. “You’re misunderstanding the reasoning, so I’ll explain. Harry is on the bottom not because he is weak, but because he is important. Think of it like chess. I am the supreme power in this group, making me, as much as I don’t want to be deemed this particular title, the queen. Harry, however, is the king. We all need to do our part to protect him, because while you can all fight without me if something were to make it necessary, we can’t do anything if we lose him. If Harry dies, no matter what caused it and who is left behind, one thing is for certain: this entire power structure crumbles. I protect you so you can protect him. I need your love, yes, but I also need skills or other benefits from each and every one of you. What he needs is for you all to be his buffer. Be his eyes and ears, and, if needed, his sword and shield. He is me, yes, but he is the most vulnerable and youngest part of me. I broke away so that he had a defence. I gathered you all around so that even when I am not aware and need to recharge, he still has that. I have not needed to yet, but there will be times that I cannot be reached, even by him. Those times are when you will need to run interference. If I do anything that requires a lot of power, or something happens that causes him great distress, those are times where I will be busy either recuperating from using so much of my power or repairing something of his mentally. I may have to do some damage control in here if something mental in him cracks. Most Shiloe are close to insanity, so we know how to fix those things, but if I fail to do so, well, you’ll have another Helga on your hands.” He said simply.
Neville winced. “Yeah, let’s try to avoid that.” He said.
“Definitely.” Blaise agreed.
Shiloe snorted. “He’ll always be a little unstable, but that’s what makes him so endearing. He doesn’t need bleed-through of our powers. While the empathy might help him, he’s too emotional to have my powers at his fingertips always.” He grinned. “Hogwarts would never survive.”
Neville and Blaise chuckled.
“All right, we’re done here. Both of you come back Saturday at eleven, we’ll have the whole group and we can determine who is below who over a luncheon date. There will be time after for mingling, since we don’t all get to see each other often. Charlie should have the day off, and he’ll come if he can, but if he can’t, we’ll decide for him and he can just be butthurt about it later.” Shiloe said lightly, and the other two cracked grins.
“Well, see you both around!” Neville said, heading off.
Blaise and Shiloe shared a kiss before the Italian left.
“I’ll make sure you get your pecking order, Blaise. You do need to know where you stand, it’s important for creatures, and I’m so sorry Remus and I forgot. Neither of us should have.”
Blaise smiled at him. “As long as it gets fixed, it coming a little late won’t kill me. Don’t beat yourself up over it.” He said before he, too, left.
Shiloe heaved a sigh and kicked himself all the way back to his room.
