Hermione was finishing a potion in her lab with Severus when Lucius walked in. The ghost watched him walking through the lab as Hermione went about cleaning up the mess that had been made from the day of brewing. It was already June and Severus had told her there was no reason to waste time, she had agreed with him but Lucius told them both that he wanted her to be able to spend time with him and Scorpius. Hermione had told Lucius about Remus and Bella’s relationship and explained that it was for that reason they couldn’t move away. He didn’t fully understand why she was being nice to a woman that had tortured her, but that was one of the reasons that he loved her as much as he did.
“I have to tell you something” Lucius said from the doorway of her lab “Something that I know will put a strain on our already frail relationship”
“What is it?” She asked and sat down on the stool, she offered him one but he shook his head opting to remain standing.
“I didn’t put the pieces together right away” He warned her “Not until you told me about Remus and Bellatrix”
“Okay” She said.
“Bella was pregnant in Azkaban” He told her and Hermione felt as if she were under water.
“She couldn’t have children…” She whispered
“That’s what Narcissa and I thought” He said “But it was discovered that she was pregnant when she was arrested…that’s why she wasn’t Kissed by the Dementor’s like Barty Crouch wanted”
“This baby?” Hermione asked “Where is it?”
“It’s hardly a baby now” He answered “Only maybe two years younger than yourself”
“Lucius!” She snapped “Where is the baby?”
“I don’t know” He answered, he lowered his head down wretchedly “The officials wanted her next of kin to take it but we had Draco and were busy…she didn’t talk to Andromeda anymore and Sirius was already in jail”
“Wait…” Hermione held her hand up “In the memory Bellatrix said she was giving her husband a potion to make him impotent”
“And he was” Lucius said raising his brows.
“It was Remus’s child?” She asked putting her hands over her mouth “Are you…where is it?”
“I don’t know” He said firmly “We told them that we didn’t want it and there was no one to take it. The prison stopped contacting us after that and I never thought about the child again”
“So it could be dead” She said “Or alive and thinking it’s family hates it!”
“I sent a letter to the wizard running the prison” He said “They have to document everything. Pregnancies in the prison are not unheard of and they’d have documented it and then probably passed the baby off to an orphanage”
“I’ll send a letter to Hogwarts” Hermione said “I’ll ask if I can see the registry of a year or so after my first year. I read that they work like family-trees and you can see who the parents are…it’s a long shot but it could work”
“Why is this so big to you?” Lucius asked as she walked out “Why can’t we just…let it go?”
“Because” She answered “What if I had just let Draco’s cries for help go?” She frowned “What if I had just left and you never found Scorpius?”
“I know” He whispered.

Three weeks later and the letter from the prison came back. Hermione had gone to the school and read through the student registry from a year before she was born until a year before she graduated the school and found nothing. They had to wait until the warden was able to answer them, they had received a letter telling them that she would search their old documents of the time and send it out to them when she was able. Weeks later and now Hermione was opening the letter that would tell her the fate of the baby. Bellatrix wandered around her and Remus was sitting across from her, he had not taken the news the way Hermione assumed he would, she thought that he’d be happy or sad. But the werewolf had been very angry with Bellatrix, swearing about how she hadn’t told him and that if she had he would have runaway with her or come to her defense.
Dear Miss. Hermione Granger
I have spent the last three weeks searching for the information that Mr. Malfoy had asked for and when I was about to give up I found the documentation that we needed. So I am sending you a copy of the information that I have found, I hope this helps you with whatever it is that you are searching for.

Hermione opened the copy and read through it before pressing her lips together and raising them to look at Remus and then at wandering ghost that had stopped momentarily to look at her too. She lowered her gaze back to the paper and then dropped her chin to her chest her hand dropping to her side. Lucius, not knowing what the paper said, went to her side and wrapped his arms around her, whispering to her soothing words.
“What is it, Hermione?” Remus asked, his voice was husky and seemed to be clogged with emotion and she knew that he knew that what was on that paper was heartbreaking.
“Born in the prison infirmary” Hermione said through the sadness making her tone hoarse “On May 24^th in 1982 was a baby boy born to Bellatrix LeStrange. Unwanted by the mothers family and no family from the LeStrange side, he was supposed to go to a muggle orphanage”
“Supposed to?” Remus whispered.
“The baby boy” She went on “Affectionately named Angel by the infirmary healer as she was sure that there was no sweeter or better behaved baby in the world” Hermione smiled sadly “He was a slightly weak child and during the short two weeks that he was alive it appeared that his immune system was always fighting with something. Inevitably whatever was attacking his immune system finally won and they baby fell asleep the night before he was to go to the orphanage and he didn’t wake up the next morning”
“So my baby died” Bellatrix whispered “I wondered what happened to him and when I died at the school…I couldn’t remember having him at all…there were snippets every once in a while but no solid memory until Lucius said something”
“It wasn’t your fault that he died…” Hermione said.
“No” Remus snapped “It’s mine!” He stood and started to pace “It was the fucking Lycanthropy that was attacking his immune system…”
“Or it could have been something that was lingering in the infirmary at the prison” Hermione said “I daresay the place was probably not that sanitary and you don’t know who was in infirmary when she gave birth and what they had” She looked at him “A baby’s immune system is so fragile that really anything could have hurt him”
“Are you sure?” Remus asked.
“No” She answered and his shoulders sagged “But if Angel’s immune system was attacked by the Lycanthropy then how come Teddy’s isn’t?”
“She has a point” Bellatrix said with a small smile “I would like to see his gave”
“According to this” Hermione held up the file “He doesn’t have one, he’s in an unmarked gave on the island”
“That’s not fair” Remus said.
“We’ll get him off that island” Lucius said “And in to the Malfoy family graveyard”
“I guess” Remus said “The Lupin family doesn’t have a graveyard so I guess…”

“I’ll work on it” Lucius promised. Hermione frowned and hugged the werewolf apologizing that there wasn’t better news.
