~~~ QUARRIES ~~~
In Nebjosa’s house, Dom Nisic, nearly an hour later, the crying stopped. Even Draco and Harry had tears in their eyes. Somehow Draco’s legillimensing gift had kicked in and both Janos and Radovan had shared their deepest thoughts. In that mêlée of consciousness, they all became aware of their homosexual feelings. To Radovan it was a revelation that he did not have to feel guilty about it. He also realised Harry’s and Draco’s deep and lasting devotion to each other, and then revealed that he liked Janos very much. He made no fuss about Janos’s prostitution, especially when balanced against his own committed murders.
Harry’s intellect also added a perspective new to Radovan. That awful things do happen to us, but it is our reaction to them that makes us feel bad. What is passed is past, we have to move on and learn from our painful lessons. There are times when, in combatting evil, we go too far, but letting that remorse rule our lives is giving evil the chance to corrupt us further. He was reminded of the love that Nebjosa had shown by taking him in; of the love he had shown by cooking and cleaning for the residents; and of the reciprocal love between him and Janos. This was the base to build on, not constant regret and guilt. Just as John had brought Harry round by spiritual healing, so Harry brought Radovan around by offering the equivalent healing. After that session they unlinked their hands.
“I’d like to explore things further, but not just now. It’s a bit difficult here … Erm … This camp, would there be a tent available for Janos and me? Harry, you indicated that you could help me to control this force. I know you call it a gift, but what I did with it makes me feel that it’s more like a curse. I have a feeling that that learning might be destructive. I’d not like to burn Uncle’s house down around his ears … Erm … Our house really. It’s the only place I’ve ever felt safe in.”
A: *We’ve been listening in. All that mental turmoil alerted us to what’s going on. There was no way we could shut it out.*
H: *Sorry, but it overtook us. They gripped our hands so hard that we couldn’t get release. I think it was for the good, though.*
A: *Dudley told us about your conversation about the website, Dray. So, Ginny and I have had an idea. I can pose as a doctor and she can pose as a nurse. What we need is a place to act as a temporary ward until land transport can arrive. Got any ideas?*
H: *Vratsa’s house is quite big … Um … Why land transport?*
D: *Statute of Secrecy.*
H: *I think that that turmoil has drained my brains. Sorry.*
D: *I feel weak too … Hmm … Arrive by helicopter … Max and Vito are able to make the illusion, they do it at the Patrimonio sometimes … Taxi to meet you … Whilst one of us transforms Vratsa’s rooms. I’ll let you know when we’ve obtained permission.*
G: *I met Vratsa, we hit it off. I’ll port over and explain.*
D: *Thanks Ginny.*
“Why are they silent, Janos?”
“Probably discussing something, like we did when we were holding their hands.”
“Oh yes! That was quite an experience.”
Draco caught the end of that discussion: “We need to get you to somewhere safe, whilst we train you, Rad. So, you need to play confused and improving. Then we’ll have a nurse and a doctor come and see you. You probably don’t need them, but that will provide an explanation to offer to Nebjosa which he can accept.”
Janos grinned whilst Radovan cautiously accepted: “I will be safe, won’t I?”
“You’ll have a great time, I have,” enthused Janos: “You’ll see lots of wonders too. Not to be talked of until we are private though.”
Radovan smiled, probably his first for years: “There are other things I want to try out in private, too.” He gave Janos a side hug.
“I’m game!”
“May I borrow your mobile, please Janos.”
“I’ll show you how to operate it, Draco.”
“No need. It’s just for window dressing.”
Janos pulled a quizzical face as he handed it over. Draco winked and tapped his nose secretively. Then he went to see Nebjosa.
“How is Rad?”
“I think we’ve started his recovery. As you guessed it’s the result of war trauma. We have a doctor and a nurse flying over to see him.” He flourished the mobile: “We’re setting up some temporary accommodation in the Gatekeepers house, where he can be quiet. A helicopter is on its way now and can land in the lower quarry easily. They say that it’s important that someone he knows stays with him, so, if you don’t mind too much, we’ll keep Janos on for another couple of weeks. Is that alright?”
“You can have him for free if it helps Rad to get better. I can understand about the quiet, there are times when I retire to my room just for some respite. Things can get frantic around here most evenings.”
“Thank you, but that will remove one of your breadwinners. I think our charity’s board would chastise me for doing that. So, we’ll continue to pay him as per the original contract.”
“That is generous. Thank you. I agree; we do need all the support we can get. I think Vratsa gives us fruit and vegetables at below cost, too. It works out, I have someone to watch the quarries, and he has a free home, so the gifts are a sort-of rent.”
“When and if you sell, that will not affect his domicile. The people we want to rehouse there have the same type of green fingers. They’re refugees and don’t want to be a drain on others’ charity. I imagine they might take the residents of your house under their wing and supply the food for free. You never know.”
“It looks as though the Lord is shining on Dom Nisic once again. My solicitor will have the papers drawn up soon. I hope your tenants have better luck up there than mine did.”
“We have good hopes. You’ve seen Vratsa’s garden; how verdant it is. Well … They have the same kind of skills.”
Nebjosa grinned: “There’s been a rumour around for ages that he’s keen on that old dear on the other side of the mountain spur. She keeps a good garden too. Now … What’s here name … Oh yes, Valentina. Both of them ancient as the hills, no one knows how old though.”
“Probably the need for companionship, we know of quite a few widows and widowers who get hitched for that reason.”
“Quite so. There are a few round here like that.”
Draco cast a noise charm on the mobile so that it peeped. Then he pretended to answer it … … … “We have twenty minutes before the helicopter arrives.”
A: *Got the message!*
Nebjosa also caught on: “I’ll have someone take you all up there in the taxi.”
~~~ ON THE ROAD ~~~
While Nebjosa and Draco had been talking, Harry had been listening in. He had also organised Janos and Radovan into packing some of his things. He was reluctant to leave all his books, so Harry had him choose some and surreptitiously shrank them. He was watched by a grinning Janos and an awed Radovan.
Harry smiled at him: “You’ll be able to do that once we’ve trained you.”
“Does that mean I can take them all, now?”
“That wouldn’t be wise, think of the Statute of Secrecy. What we’re taking is to help you not to become bored whilst you’re in hospital.” Harry gave a knowing wink, which Radovan understood.
“Oh yes, I hope I don’t get too tired to see visitors.”
“I’ll visit you whenever I’m allowed to,” Janos had heard Draco and Nebjosa approaching: “we’ll have to see what doctor’s orders are first though.”
Radovan was not thick, he caught on immediately, and sort-of draped himself on to Janos.
When Nebjosa entered he saw one friend supporting the other, with Harry holding two cases in his hand: “Now, Rad, Dr Draco and I have come to an arrangement so that Janos can stay with you until you feel better. D’you understand?”
Radovan nodded and mumbled an affirmative.
“Good. Now the taxi will take you to Vratsa’s home. You’ve helped him in his garden before, haven’t you?”
Another mumbled affirmative accompanied by the slightest smile.
“Dr Draco says he has a colleague who can look after you and help you recover. Is that all right?”
“Yes, I’ll go. As long as Janos comes too,” Radovan said in a weak voice with an anxious look.
“Yes! I’m coming,” Janos gave Radovan a slight side hug.
Radovan wanted to shake the other residents’ hands so that delayed things somewhat. Piled into the taxi they set off. Radovan was hugging Janos. It might have been for love, but it was more probably because of the erratic driving.
Draco gripped the side handle hard: *Do all their drivers drive like maniacs?*
H: *That, from a quidditch player of your calibre?*
D: *Yes, but I was in charge. Not being subject to it … Now, that’s a swear word I’ve not heard before! I’m not sure it’s physically possible.*
A helicopter passed overhead and went towards the quarry. It had landed and taken off before they arrived. Despite Draco’s qualms, they arrived in one piece, about ten minutes later. Waiting for them outside Vratsa’s front door was a lady in a white coat, hair in a tight bun and a stethoscope draped around her neck. She was accompanied by a white-hatted, aproned nurse in a light blue outfit. Astoria and Ginevra looked the part, including a clip file which they appeared to be discussing.
Ginny came forward: “Good morning Dr Draco, which one is our patient?”
“Good morning nurse. This is Radovan Nisic, your patient, I’ll give the case notes to Dr Blake. Radovan is very nervous, so it would be a good idea for his close friend, Janos, to come with you; at least until he’s settled.”
“Yes doctor, I understand. Now come along Radovan, I’ll show you to your room. Janos, you support him. Perhaps the other young man would like to bring the luggage.”
Draco went to Astoria and they began talking medical gobbledegook and looking at the file she held. Harry just stood aside, watching the pantomime, trying hard to stifle his giggles. Luckily for him, Vratsa came out and grabbed his hand.
V: *What are they doing?*
H: *Pretending that Rad is recovering from a trauma. In a way he is. Did you sense his aura?*
V: *Yes, have you given him a scarab like Janos’s?”
H: *No. It’s natural and he’s been repressing it for about twenty years. I had heard it was possible, now I’ve seen it for real. It was extremely faint when we first met him, I doubt any normal mage would have spotted it.*
V: *I know I didn’t. So, will you be training him?*
H: *I had thought to, yes. I shall hold some classes here, mainly to see what skills Elysium’s young mages have learned. My feeling is that they have very few defence cantrips.*
V: *They’ve learned nothing but agricultural charms. Many families have lived and died under the main tholus. I doubt they even know how to repair it, never mind defend themselves. The new fugitives are so relieved to get here that they assume someone else is looking after it. I’m on tenterhooks whenever some of the young ones come out and go exploring.*
H: *D’you think the Caucus would let our Ward team have a look at it?*
V: *I think they’d welcome it. They had read of the Seignior’s raids in the Prophet International. I think that’s why you had a reception committee.*
H: *Very wise of them.* Harry saw the taxi driver returning: *Do you think Uncle Neb’s spy is satisfied?*
Vratsa grinned and nodded in the affirmative.
~~~ SICK ROOM ~~~
Two medical orderlies stood by, in the spotlessly clean room. It had been decorated in light green and cream and smelled slightly antiseptic.
When the driver appeared with Radovan’s cases, Maximiliano grabbed them: “Have these been sterilised?”
“N-No!”
“Give them to me and I’ll see to it. What is the patient’s name?”
“Oh! Radovan Nisic.”
Vittorio made a show of writing his name on a clip-board: “His address please?”
“Dom Nisic, Ulica Vode, Dubrovnik.”
“Thank you, you may go now.”
The driver handed Radovan’s cases over, took a look around, and went back towards his cab. Then Janos arrived, supporting a weak looking Radovan; followed by Nurse Ginevra.
Ginevra winked at Radovan: “It might be an idea if you undressed and got into bed,” she whispered: “Just in case the driver turns up again.”
Radovan slipped off his outer clothes and climbed in wearing his underclothes. He got a thumbs up from Maximiliano. Next in were Draco and Astoria who motioned for silence. They all listened whilst the taxi departed and then Harry and Vratsa appeared.
Vratsa grinned: “Now young man, I hear you’ve been sailing under false colours?”
Radovan smiled weakly: “Err … Yes?”
“Not to worry, I’ve been hiding the fact that I’m a wizard too.”
“Harry’s told me of the Statute of Secrecy,” Radovan replied in a much stronger voice: “What happens next?”
“We introduce ourselves. This is … … … …”
“… … … … I hope I remember everyone’s name. Am I to stay in bed?”
“That depends on how strong you really feel.”
Radovan grinned: “Quite up to rising and dressing. Though something to eat would be good. Harry and Draco got me out before we had lunch.” He then jumped when Bobby popped in:
“Are you eating here or at the camp, mages all?”
“Who are you?”
“I’m Bobby and I have a mate called Robbie. We’re Harry and Draco’s personal elves. Welcome to your new world Radovan.”
“Not met an elf before, I thought they were fictional. Err … Could we go to the camp, Harry?”
“D’you fancy climbing a lot of steps, or do you want the quick way?”
“I’m not sure … Err … What’s the quick way?”
“It’s called apparating, which is how Bobby got here?”
“Does it hurt?”
“Not much, we have a potion to drink if you feel a bit queasy afterwards. How is it, that you elves never feel queasy?”
“Different constitutions, I expect, Harry. Your human-half holds you back.”
“Cheeky elves should have their balls boiled in oil!” remarked Draco, semi fiercely.
“Yes Master … How hot?” Bobby appeared to quake.
Radovan was now fully dressed and looked shocked: “You don’t really mean it, do you, Draco?”
“I seem to remember someone being held in the ‘Ring of Redress,” suggested Harry, slyly: “And an equivalent punishment being given.”
Draco paled and answered hurriedly: “No. It’s a sort of joke … Hmm … Some masters used to invent cruel punishments for their elves. Harry brought in some legislation that forbade that.”
“Oh! Right! What was Harry talking about?”
“Another ancient punishment custom. I’ve not heard of it being used for years now,” answered Harry, grinning at Draco: “More like the boiling in oil joke. Now … long and tiring or short and queasy?”
Janos grinned: “Think of climbing ten storeys on a rough zigzag road, Rad. Or pushing your way through tangled undergrowth whilst climbing some steps.”
Radovan pulled a face: “Short and queasy, it is.”
“We’ll leave you males to your amusements, Harry and Draco. Call us if we need to play doctor and nurse again,” Astoria and Ginevra disapparated up to the cabinet. “BYE!”
“Where did they go?”
“The same place we’ll be going to in half a minute.”
“You young ’uns go, I shall stay here,” Vratsa informed them.
So, four wizards, an apprentice and a charmed muggle, hugged each other and disapparated.
After reappearing, Radovan sipped the pink potion when it was offered: “It wasn’t that bad. I imagined vomiting all over the place. Thanks.” He looked over the edge of the quarry at the roof Vratsa’s cottage: “That’s quite some jump we made. Which tent is ours?”
“We all share.”
“Isn’t it a bit cosy?”
That gave the rest of them some enjoyment at his reactions after he first looked inside. By the time he had assimilated that piece of magic, the two elves had set up a table under the awning and heaped it with delicacies. During and after the meal thy sat and chatted, mainly it was answering Radovan’s questions and elaborating the answers. He proved to be as inquisitive as his mate.
“When do you start to teach me these charms, Harry?”
“Firstly, we need to find a wand for you?”
“What’s one of those?”
Vittorio produced his: “It’ll look something like this. Look at Max’s too. The act as a focus for collecting the thaums we use. Some thaums come from outside and some from within us.”
Radovan looked at both wands: “I have something like that. It was about all that was left of my father’s possessions. I kept it as a souvenir.”
“First lesson coming up, Rad. Can you remember where that wand is?”
“Yes, Harry. It’s wrapped in an old silk shawl of my mother’s.”
“Now I want you to concentrate on it in that environment.”
“I can see it.” Radovan had his eyes closed.
“Good! Now imagine what it would feel like in your hand.” Harry could see Radovan’s hand flexing as if to hold something. “Now imagine a line connecting your hand to where the wand is.”
“Got it, I think.”
“Now imagine the wand disentangling itself from the shawl and flying up that line.”
Radovan relaxed his tense shoulders and sighed: “This is complicated.”
“This charm is normally taught in the fourth year of your training, but you are a mature student and should have the power enough to control the thaums needed. Now … Go through that exercise again.”
“Got it!”
“Now say: ‘Accio Virgae Patris mea!”
“Accio Virgae Patris mea! … It didn’t work!”
“Try again, don’t forget the idea of the wand coming to you.”
It took three more tries before a surprised Radovan had a wand in his hand. Everyone congratulated him.
“The fact that it came, means that it has some affinity to you. We have a friend who makes wands, we’ll have him look at it. Meanwhile it should work simple charms, cantrips and hexes. Are you still feeling up to it?”
“I’ll tell you when I feel tired, but I’m alright for now.”
“Good … Then we’ll start with … … … …”
Radovan called a halt about an hour before Dinner, mainly because he was having difficulty in remembering all the charms he had been taught. For half an hour he sat quietly with Vittorio and made notes.
The other four went with Harry to the head of the steps, because he had remembered something that Sossogenese had said about sliding down a chute. First, they had to find the stream that flowed out of the sump-pool. This was not too easy as it had been culverted so that access to the far side of the quarry could be made. They saw that there was a line of slightly greener scrub and, rightly so, presumed the culvert was supplying a little extra water to their roots. They followed this line to the edge of the quarry until the water emerged. What it flowed down appeared to be smooth and man-made; following, as far as they could ascertain, a continuously graded course. Being open, all kinds of plants had been attracted to the water, thus it was difficult to see too far down. As a rough estimate, again from more verdant growth, this slope passed the end of the lower quarry and ended up somewhere near the end of Vratsa’s garden, or maybe even lower.
“I think it must be the water supply that feeds the garden,” remarked Janos: “I know it flows gently towards the house. Not that I remember ever going right to the end. I’ve been into his cellar and the stream flows through that. It keeps everything cool that way.”
“Are those a set of steps?”
“Looks like it. Vratsa said there was a set. Heavily overgrown too, by the state they’re in.”
“Time to go back for the evening meal, we can explore at another time.”
When they arrived back, they were hot and sweaty, so, with little thought of propriety, all but Radovan and Vittorio stripped-off and jumped in the lake. Radovan watched what was happening with wonder.
“I’m going to join them,” said Vittorio: “Are you coming too?” He started to strip.
Two naked elves came out of the tent and trotted over to the water, quickly immersing themselves.
Radovan shrugged. He did not feel too, happy about parading round in the nude, but also knew he would feel left out if he did not. So, semi-reluctantly, he undressed and ran rapidly into the lake’s watery embraces, feeling much better once the water level was around his waist. There was some splashing and racing, however, there seemed to be a mutual understanding about not indulging in any sexual horseplay. Somehow, everybody recognised Radovan’s unease, and respected it.
Dinner was inside the tent and afterwards the newcomers were introduced to goblin mah-jong, before a chocolate nightcap.
It was obvious to Radovan that people were thinking of bed: “Err … Could someone apparate me down to Vratsa’s place, please? I’m not sure how to do it myself.”
“If you’ve left something down there, you could accio it, you know.”
“Can I do that with something as big as a bed?”
“Why would you want to bring a bed up here? Would you prefer to sleep on your own?”
“Err … Do we all sleep in one bed?”
“No! We sleep in pairs, we thought you would want to share a bed with Janos.”
Radovan blushed heartily: “Oh! I see … Well … Erm …”
“… I was rather looking forward to sharing, after your earlier suggestions,” interrupted Janos, “But if you want to sleep alone, I’m sure Robbie or Bobby can make the necessary arrangements.”
Draco chuckled: “You can sleep-in in the morning if you don’t get a much rest tonight. Each of the bed cubicles has a silencing charm on it. So, if any of us gets carried away the remainder will not be disturbed.”
Maximiliano ostentatiously snogged Vittorio and then looked at Radovan: “Sharing is no big deal!”
“Right … Then I’m sharing with Janos. Which is our cubicle?”
“This one!” Janos drew the curtain aside.
“Oh! It’s quite roomy! Bigger than my room at the house. The bed looks comfortable too. Err … Which drawer are my pyjamas in?”
“Do you really need pyjamas?”
“Err … Oh … Perhaps I don’t.” The curtain was drawn-too and any further conversation, if any, could not be heard by the others.
They quickly did their ablutions and retired to their double-bedded cubicles also.
~~~ ELYSIUM ~~~
Draco and Harry were first up the following morning and had had their bath. As they came out of the bathroom there was a new person there.
“Hi Draco, Harry, I feel a little overdressed for present company.”
“Good morning Greg, just visiting, or here for a purpose?” Draco asked, whilst Maximiliano and Vittorio came out of their cubicle and took over the bathroom.
“For a purpose. Ginny said there was a new-found mage who needed his wand checking.”
Harry grinned: “You may have to wait a bit, it’s his first night in a double bed.”
“By that I take it that he has a lover?”
“Yes. We haven’t had breakfast yet, maybe you’d like some while you wait.”
“You know me and food,” Gregory patted his stomach: “Though I’m less of a glutton now Pansy has taken me in hand,” he added mock-piously. “It’s a glorious morning, are we eating outside?”
“Once we’re dressed, why not.”
Robbie put his head through their curtain: “I suppose that means we have to get up too?”
Harry grinned at him: “You can if you wish. I’m quite happy to make breakfast, I know where everything is – at least I did; unless you’ve moved everything around.”
“No. We like the same kind of order that you do.”
“Good! You two go back to sleep, or whatever you were enjoying?”
“We will!” The curtain closed and the silencing charm was back in place.
Draco wandered into the kitchen area: “I’ll set the coffee going.”
Harry nodded and went to dress. As he came out Draco went to their room.
Maximiliano was next: “Shall I see to the toast, Harry? Vito’s setting the table.”
“Thanks.”
Radovan and Janos came out of their room and scuttled over to the bathroom, but not before Janos remarked: “I thought you said elves do the menial work, Harry?”
“I like to keep my hand in. How was sleeping in a double, Rad?” Harry asked with a waggle of his eyebrows.
“We managed some, thank you. We’re taking things slowly, or else I’ll be the wreck that Uncle Neb thinks I am.”
“When Draco and I first came together, we felt guilty afterwards and broke up. You’re wise to take your time.”
“Those sausages will be burned, Harry; if you don’t pay attention.”
That remark claimed Harry’s attention and gave Radovan and Janos time to go into the bathroom.
“Fine, Max, I’ll attend to them, thanks.”
###
After breakfast, Harry had Radovan show Gregory the charms he had learned, whilst he was monitored, thaumically. Three or four adjustment charms from Gregory had him declare that it was well fit for Radovan to use: “Many times, a father and son share many of the same thaums, much the same for daughters and mothers too. I had to adjust for the special thaums you inherited from your mother, Rad. It should be fine now.”
“Thank you, how much do I owe you?”
“Harry would have my ears for garters if I even thought of charging you. Besides, it’s a way of paying him back for all the kindness he’s shown me. We work as a team. Now, were you to want to buy a new wand, then that would be another matter. I must be off now; I have a shop to look after. Bye!” Gregory opened the door of the cabinet and ported away.
One of the cantrips Harry had Radovan practicing was Incendio. He felt that if Radovan could control it, then he would not feel so bad about what happened. Radovan had been very timid to begin with and only managed to make smoke. With encouragement, he had managed enough to light a domestic fire, but had gone no further. As Harry had surmised, Radovan, was less inhibited when learning other skills.
“Err … Harry … The wand feels more friendly. Is that usual?”
“It’ll be the adjustments that Greg made, probably. Wands have a perception of their own, and you grow together as you work together too.”
“Does that mean I could probably make a bigger fire now?”
“Most likely. Is it wise to do that though?”
“I have to get rid of my mental gremlins. Besides, I can make a decent Aquamenti. If I do go too far.”
“Let’s have breakfast first. Then we’ll go and clear some of the briars that are blocking the steps.”
“Okay. I am a bit hungry.”
They did not hurry over breakfast and afterwards strolled to the top of the steps. Radovan was still thinking in dramatic terms. So, he took a stance and twirled his wand: “Incendio! Jebote! Aquamenti!”
Janos stared at a hundred yards of smouldering ash with an odd charcoal tree stump sticking out. His mate was also staring at it and shaking.
“You did that very well, Rad,” complimented Harry: “You were obviously thinking about what you wanted to burn, and the thaums obeyed you. There’s very little damage to the vegetation on either side. Well done!”
“Thanks … I think … Greg adjusting my wand has made it more effective.”
“I think it’s more about you being confident of using thaums. Try the next hundred yards; remembering how you channelled without spraying the sides with fire. Before that, I’ll teach you a new cantrip, it’s called ‘Ventus’ and causes a stream of air to blow. The gesture is like this.”
Radovan practiced the flourish until Harry was satisfied: “Good! I want you to use it to blow away the ashes so we can see the steps and the channel, so you need to think about narrowing its trajectory, just as you did with the Fire and water.
Radovan got it first time, although not all the nooks and crannies were completely cleared. Harry had him using a minor cleaning charm for those as they descended. It took seven goes before the steps and the channel were completely cleared. Radovan needed to sit down an eat some chocolate when he had finished. It was also a clarifying experience for Janos, seeing his mate using up so much his energy completing a magical task. The Ventus had blown the ashes all over the place, including on to their persons. So, before descending, they all jumped in the lake and dressed in fresh clothes.
###
They sat on benches in Vratsa’s verdant garden for about half an hour. Then, now they were at the bottom, Harry suggested that they go to see Elysium. Its concept had to be explained to Radovan whilst he sat recovering. Then he was eager to see something new. He and Janos set off down the tunnel ahead of the other mages. Of course, Radovan’s aura, being strange, attracted Sossogenese and his snakes.
#Good morning Janos, who is this new mage?#
#Good morning Sossogenese, this is my partner, Radovan. He and I have known each other for some time, not that either of us realised he was a mage. Harry and Draco managed to free the block on his thaums, so he is learning how to be an efficient mage. He did very well earlier today. He cleared the steps and chute that leads from the top quarry, although, it tired him out.#
By the time that explanation had taken place, the other mages had caught up.
#Where did you learn all that Parseltongue, Janos?#
#Was I speaking in the sacred speech, Harry?#
#YES!# Was the chorus that replied.
#Oh! Jebote! So I was. How did that happen?#
#It’s probably due to your thaumic heritage, Janos. I didn’t have to learn it either.#
“Harry? Although I could hear hissing, I understood what Janos was saying. You know, a bit like when we hold hands with you.”
Draco chuckled: “It’s obvious that you two are meant for each other. Not that I’ve heard of a muggle and a mage pairing up like that before. Has Harry told you about charming Janos’s scarab?”
“Yes! So; I tried to make one just before we dressed after the swim, this morning.”
“Why?”
“Practice!”
“My charge should have lasted until the end of next week … Um … May I hold your scarab, Janos?”
Harry linked his hand with Draco and closed his eyes: *I don’t know what he did, but there’s a thaumic link between the two of them.*
D: *Let me try, please? Yes … I see it … There’s also a mind link there … Most unusual!* “Whatever you did, Rad, has formed a link between the two of you. You seem to have some form of conjoined intellect. This is very interesting.”
“When I close my eyes and hold Draco’s hand; I can see magic. I can see a magical link between the two of you,” said Harry: “When you refreshed Janos’s scarab, did anything unusual happen?”
“There was a red glow around us, but it had gone by the time we came out of the cubicle after dressing. It felt very comforting.”
“Did you, by any chance, have a sixty-nine-experience last night?”
Radovan blushed and Janos looked at his feet. Both of them nodded affirmatively,
“Don’t be bashful about it. Harry and I had a joining experience the first time we did it. Each of us ingesting the other’s substance. The Fluence, obviously has plans for you as a couple.”
When they started using human speech, Sossogenese had laid his head on the back of Harry’s hand, thus he understood what was going on: #Congratulations, Janos and Radovan, it looks as though you are making thaumic history. But then strange things happen around seers, especially these four. I’m curious as to what other wonders they will perform. I hope you enjoy your tour of Elysium, Radovan.#
#Radovan thanks you, Sossogenese,# replied Janos.
