Chapter 25 Mrs Norris, and a little scaly insight

He froze. She was gone. He collapsed onto the bed, confused and shaking with frustration. �Shite!� �It was not a dream. It can�t have been a dream. He was just about to enter heaven and she disappeared from under him.

He got up, shaking, and looked around him. He headed back to the study. She was not there. But her clothes were.
Nina was ready. As she waited for the pain she knew was coming, she looked into his eyes, felt him pull back and brace himself before he��

�You is a naughty girl Miss Nina. Kali is getting there just in time.�

Nina suddenly realised that she was lying naked on her own bed with her legs in the air.
She sat up quickly and pulled the cover over herself as she trembled.

�Kali. Wha�.what are you talking about. What did you do.�

�Miss is forgetting what Kali is telling her. Miss must come and tell Kali before letting the Snape take her. Is very, very important.�

�Kali what are you talking about? We were about to�.to�

I is knowing what you was doing. But it must not happen in the Snape�s bed or yours.�

There was a loud banging at the door.
�Oh no. He�ll think I disappeared on purpose Kali. What have you done.

Kali didn�t answer and went to open the door as Nina sat frozen on the bed.
Severus strode into the bedroom.
�What the bloody hell did you do that for. If you had said no I would have stopped.�

�I�.I didn�t. It was Kali.�

Severus turned his glare on the elf. He wanted to murder the blasted thing.
Kali jumped onto the bed next to Nina as she looked back at the angry Potion Master.

�I has to do it Sir. Kali is having no choice.�

�What are you talking about you stupid creature. What happens between a wizard and his witch has nothing to do with a bloody house elf.� He roared.
�I is not house elf Sir. I is Kali. I is the keeper of the Dark magik. Magik of the Dark Goddess Lilith, Inanna, Hecate, Arianhrod. She is going by many names, but she is all one. Her magic is to be passed on to Nina. It can only be done as she is taken for the first time.�

The elf had stood tall and proud as she spoke.

�When you two is unite for the first time it must happen in the special place. The place where Light and Dark meet. Only there, can yous be unite for the first time.�
The couple were dumbfounded.

Nina could now remember Kali telling her that she should let her know if she was going to have sex. But she thought it was because the elf was concerned about her and maybe wanted to give her a lecture or something first.

Severus was totally confused.

�And where would this place be?�

He asked.
Kali jumped of the bed and headed for the living room.

Severus raised his eyebrow to Nina and she climbed of the bed, wrapping the coverlet snugly around her.

They followed Kali.
She was standing in front of the door Severus had noticed and dismissed as a closet when he had first viewed Nina�s rooms.

Nina had never even noticed it before.
�In here is where it must happen. Only in here.� She held out her arm to the door.
Severus marched across the room and yanked on the door handle. He wanted to see what was so special about the room behind this door.

It didn�t budge. He yanked at it again. He pulled out his wand and tried several unlocking spells before he would accept that the door would not open.

�And how are we supposed to get into the room if the door will not open?�
�Is not a room Sir. Is other realm. The door will not open until it is the right time. The right time is not now.�
Nina came forward. �When is the right time Kali? How will we know?�

�Kali is telling you when the time is coming. Until then you is both not to be uniting. Not two be one. Other things is allowed yes.�

Kali looked at the Potions Master.

�But you is not to enter Miss Nina till Kali says.�

Kali disappeared, leaving Nina and Severus alone to think about what she had told them.

Kali didn�t need to worry that they would do anything for the moment. It was the last thing on their minds right now.
�Will you wait for me while I get dressed. I think I should tell you what Kali told me on Friday.�
He nodded and went to sit on the sofa.
Nina came back through dressed in the clothes that had been left in his bedroom. He did not ask how.
Nina sat beside him and reached to the table to pour him a cup of tea, He did not ask about that either. He was slowly getting used to Nina�s particular brand of magic.

She drank her milk, he his tea and Nina took his hand and placed it on top of her head as she thought about what Kali had revealed to her yesterday.

Nina waited patiently until he had viewed everything up to her walking into the Hall on Draco�s arm.
�So she was telling the truth about Draco.�

�And why did you not tell me this before now?�
Nina looked at her glass as she spoke.

�I desperately wanted to talk to you about it last night. But you made it difficult. Ron and Harry were ignoring me. Then you were acting cold toward me and when we were in your office you didn�t want to listen to what I needed to say. You were too angry, So I gave up.�
Severus felt so small he thought that he could probably crawl up a Kelpies arse. She had come to him for help and he had raged at her about Lupin and spanked her for not doing as he wished. For not obeying him.

An uncomfortable silence settled over them. Neither knowing quite what to do next or what to say.

Finally Severus found his voice.

�I should have perhaps listened to you a little more.�
She snorted.

�Very well, more than a little.�
Nina sat on the sofa.

�It doesn�t really matter now does it. You know what I know and neither of us can do anything to change any off it. It all seems to have been decided a long time ago. For me at any rate.�

Severus sat beside her.

�Nina. I am so sorry that you have gone through what you have. I would change many aspects of what has happened in your life if I could. But some, and I mean only some, of those things have happened for reasons that I can only assume are yet to be fully revealed.
�Well I seem to be getting a pretty good idea.� She told him.
�As do I. However, in the meantime it would seem that we are going to have to curtail our�.ah�.activities somewhat.�

He watched he reaction out of the corner of his eye.
�Curtail? Is that the same as stop?�

�It is �.not.� He answered with a smirk.
�Oh. How much is it not the same?� When she looked at him from under her lashes to find him watching her and smirking she went pink, then she grinned too.
�Oh it is very different to stop.� He kissed the top of her head.
�Really?�

�Really.�

�So we could still do�.certain things?�

�Most definitely.� He kissed her neck. �As long as we stop before I ah�.enter you.�
�So it�s not a total loss then?� She kissed his ear.
�Not entirely.� His hands moved down her back as his mouth sucked at her breast through her jumper before pulling it over her head.
�And�.is this allowed?� His jacket and shirt disappeared as she pushed him backwards and bent to suckle at his nipple, scraping it with her teeth and changing to the other. �And this?� her fingernails scraped gently down his chest and over his abdomen, following her mouth as it nibbled at the area just above his waistband.
He hissed as she continued to work her way down. He was more then happy to see what she would do, how far she would go.
�The Headmaster is wanting to see you both. Kali had re-appeared.�

Severus wanted to scream. Except that Severus did not scream.

Nina was feeling much the same but managed to hold herself back.

�Kaleee!
�Sorry Miss Nina. I is only following orders.�

Kali didn�t look in the least bit sorry. In fact she looked quite smug.
They stood and with a sulky look from Nina they were again fully dressed.
Severus wondered if it would be possible to �accidentally� stand on the blasted elf as they were leaving. He wanted to.

He glared at Kali as Nina grabbed his hand and stood in front of Albus.
Albus was half expecting them to suddenly appear this time and managed only to snap his quill. It was soon mended with a quick Repairo.

�Severus. Nina. Prompt as usual, please sit down. Tell me, how did your meeting with Lord Malfoy go?�

He watched them over his half moon spec�s as they let go of each other�s hands and sat down. His eyes gave a twinkle.
�It went better than I expected Headmaster.� Severus told him. �Although not quite as I had planned.�

He raised his eyebrows and looked at Nina at this last comment.
Nina gave her usual blush.
�Really! And how would that be?�
Severus smirked as he spoke again.

�Do you want the full details Albus? Or the abridged version?�
Nina�s fingers gripped her knees so tightly when Severus said that her knuckles had gone white.
Seeing her reaction Albus Accio�d a small Pensive and placed it on the front of his desk.
�Perhaps If I were to see for myself, it would cause a little less�.discomfort for Nina?�

Severus nodded.

�As you wish Headmaster.�

He stood and placed the tip of his wand to his temple, muttered and incantation, pulled the memory away from his head and dropped it carefully into the Pensive before retuning to his seat.
�You don�t really need me here for this.� Nina had got of her seat and was heading for the door. �I�.I could wait in my err room and�.�

�Sit!� Severus told her.
She did but she hoped that the Headmaster was not going to see what happened when they had left the Inn.
�Is there anything that I should be warned of before I view the contents?�
�It is best you just view Headmaster.�
Albus placed the tip of his finger into the swirling silver inside of the Pensive as Severus and Nina looked on, watching him as he surveyed all that had happened from they had appeared in front of Lucius Malfoy until the moment that Severus had said �Good Day�.

When Albus pulled his finger from the Pensive he looked directly at Nina.

�That was certainly something.� He told her.
She didn�t know where to look. Her hands were rubbing up and down her legs. She had not felt at all embarrassed when she had put Malfoy through that. But now, in front of the Headmaster, it felt totally different.

�Yes it�.was�.seemed.�
Severus interrupted her.

�It was, shall we say, appropriate to the moment Albus.�
�I would have to agree, knowing Lucius. He will certainly have second thoughts before tangling again with our young Nina here. I wonder how he will explain that to Voldemort?�
Nina laughed at that. �He wouldn�t dare.� �And I don�t think he�ll ever try and lick my hand again.� She added to herself.
�I am afraid I did not get the chance to glean any information from him as to the Dark Lords next move.�

�No? The problem now being, how do we find out any future plans that he may have. Now that you no longer bare the mark.�

Severus automatically put his hand over has left arm where, until a few hours ago, the Dark Mark had been.
�I can tell you.� Said a very quiet voice.
Both men looked at Nina.
�You? How?�

She looked back at Severus.
�I can tell you what he is thinking. I can see him whenever I wish without him knowing.�

Albus snapped his quill again. He did not bother to repair it this time. Instead he came from behind his desk and waved the other two over to the armchairs by the fire.
As usual, Nina and Severus seated themselves on the sofa as Albus took his favourite armchair. He ordered tea and a glass of milk before turning to her.

�Perhaps you would care to explain further my dear. Take your time.�
�Well, I can�.if I want to, I Know what he�s thinking as he�s thinking it. But I have to want to. Does that make sense to you?�

�It does.�

Albus told her. �You also mentioned that you can see him when you wish to. How?�

She pointed at her head. �I can get images of him if I concentrate. But I can go to him too. He wouldn�t know I was there.�
Severus gawped at her for a moment.

�You have not been to him on your own surely.�

�No. But I can.�

�And how is it that he cannot see you?� Albus queried.
�Like this.�

A voice came from the other side of the room, but there was no one there and Nina was gone from her seat.
�Where did you get an Invisibility cloak from?� Severus wanted to know.
Nina appeared at the side of him.

�A what?�

�Albus threw some floo powder into the fire.

�Argus Filch�s rooms.�

Argus� head appeared in the flames. �Yes Headmaster.�

�Argus. Would you be so kind as to bring Mrs Norris to my office for a moment.�

�Yes Headmaster.�

The caretakers head disappeared.
�Why on earth do you want Filch�s cat Albus?�

�Because Severus, apart from Alistair and his magical eye, animals are the only creatures that can see through invisibility spells and cloaks. It will be interesting to know if Nina can be seen by Mrs Norris. If not, we shall have Moody take a look.�

�Ahh, they are here. Come in Argus.�
Mr Filch walked in carrying Mrs Norris. �I hope your not gonna hurt her.�

�Certainly not Argus. We just require her assistance with a little experiment. I promise that she will be returned to you unharmed.�

Filch knew that he was being dismissed but he also knew that Mrs Norris would not stay with anyone but him and he was reluctant to let her go.
�Oh just put her down Argus. No one is going to hurt her.�

Mrs Norris hissed at the Potions Master when he spoke.
Nina stood and approached them.

�Hello Mr Filch, may I?�

She held her hands out to take the cat and Filch took a step back.
�Silly girl. She�ll scratch yer eyes out if ya try and touch her.�

Nina took another step forward.

�Hi Mrs Norris. May I hold you?�
Severus and Argus both frowned at her as if she were daft.
The cat wriggled to get out of her owners arms and when he put her on the floor she went straight to Nina and meowed. When Nina picked her up and stroked her the cat began to purr loudly as she rubbed her head against Nina�s chin as Nina spoke softly to it.
�Well I never.� Argus said, amazed.
�I promise that she shall be returned to you soon Argus.�
Filch walked out the door muttering to himself in amazement. His Mrs Norris had never let anyone but him touch her.
Even Albus and Severus were surprised. The cat seemed to adore Nina.
�What do you want Mrs Norris and me to do Headmaster?�
�Oh yes. Can you become invisible and still keep hold of her?�

�Yes. Do you want her to remain visible or disappear with me?�

Albus smiled. �Both I think. Visible first.�

Nina was gone and Mrs Norris was yowling because she could no longer sense this nice new person that had been stroking her. And she was stuck in the air.
Nina came back and Mrs Norris huddled up to her.
Then they both disappeared. A minute later Nina and Mrs Norris were standing behind Severus� chair. Visible again.

�Boo!� She said to Severus. Making him jump ever so slightly. He frowned.
Mrs Norris was still happily purring away.
�Shall I take her back Sir?�

�You may Nina. Thank you.�

Nina appeared instantly in Mr Filch�s office just as he was putting some parchments into a filing cabinet.
When he turned around he let out a yell of surprise at seeing Nina sitting in front of his desk striking his cat.

�How did you get in? Is my cat alright?� He demanded reaching to take her from Nina.
�Yes Sir she�s fine. Thank you for letting us borrow her. She�s a lovely cat. You are lucky to have her.�

That did it for Argus. Nobody had ever said anything nice about his cat before. �Yes she is. Well she seems to be okay. Thanks for taking good care of her Miss.�

�Please call me Nina, Mr Filch. I don�t have that many friends. It would be nice to have another.�

�Yes, well I�ll think about it.� He told her gruffly. Though in fact he had already decided that he did like this Nina and would call her by her first name.
�Thank you Sir. I�ll get out of your way now. Bye Mrs Norris.�

The cat purred to her. Much to Filch�s surprise.

�Ya know she never liked anyone but me until you came here. If Mrs Norris says yer ok then that�s fine by me.�

She grinned at him. �By Mr Filch.�

�Bye. Nina.�
Nina didn�t know that she had left Filch grinning like a love sick schoolboy as she headed back to her rooms.
Up in the Headmasters office Albus and Severus were arguing.

�No Albus. It is too dangerous. I have never heard anything so bloody stupid.�

�Severus, if she passes the same test with Moody then there will be no danger. Don�t you see. Voldemort will never even know that she has been anywhere near him.�

�And what happens when some thing goes wrong and he does see her?�

�I think it unlikely Severus. But even if he does. What can he do to her?�

Severus was seething.

�Is it not bad enough that you are allowing her to meet up with a damned werewolf, two werewolves, on the next full moon? She can give me the mark back. I shall go to him.�

�She could. But you know that is no longer an option Severus. Voldemort would kill you as soon as he set eyes on you after the last time. You know that. If he calls you that is. Which seems unlikely. He clearly considers you too well protected now.�

�But we still do not know how far reaching Nina�s powers are yet. What if they fail when she is right in front of him?�

�They wont fail Professor.�

Both men started at Nina�s voice.
�How long have you been here?�

Severus asked her.

�I just came. I was listening to you both from my rooms.�

Severus turned his glare from her to Albus and raised and eyebrow.

Albus had the grace to go pink as he realised that she had heard every word that he had spoken. �And what is your opinion?�

�I�ll do it Sir.�

�You will not.� Severus told her.

�Now Severus, I thought we had agreed.�

�We agreed nothing Headmaster. You decided. I am against it.�

�How about if I just let you know what he is thinking? For now. I�ve just proved that I can listen to you without your knowledge. It�s no different with scaly.�

They looked at her.
�You know, if he�s planning something, I can tell you then can�t I, and you�ll know that I�m still here.�
�Absolutely not.� Severus told her.
Nina sat down and looked to the Potions Master.
Her eyes were on his but she was not seeing him. They were tinged with red as she stared through him, no expression on her face. It was as if, in her mind, she were a thousand miles away. The men watched as her eyes became moist with unshed tears. Her already pale complexion became even paler. Her face became sad as they looked on, waiting to see what would happed, neither daring to interrupt. Not knowing what the outcome would be if they did.

She stayed this way for almost twenty minutes before she blinked, causing the tears to drip down her cheeks.

Nina wiped them off with her sleeve before she spoke.
�He is still very angry about what happened when we were there together.� She told Severus. �And they have got Nagini back. She is caged, there against her will. But he won�t let her go. He needs her to stay alive, but she won�t talk to him. He makes Wormwood see to her. He is having a�.a revel I think it is. What�s a revel? Does that make any sense to you? In October. I don�t know the day, yet. He wants some muggles to be there. Twenty of them. Men, women and children. They are to be taken at random and brought to him. He wants to hurt them. They�ve moved. They�re not with Mr Malfoy. Somewhere new, a place called Lestrange�.something. I didn�t catch it. He has a woman with him. He calls her his Bella. She�s tall, beautiful, cruel. Very cruel. That�s it. Is it enough?�
Severus was angry that she had just outright disobeyed him, and amazed at her ability to tell them what she just had.
The headmaster was more then pleased at this new ability of hers.

�I think that you have proved your point very well. Very well indeed.�
�Albus I am not happy with this. And you� He turned to Nina. �will do thing unless the Headmaster or I are present. Do you understand?�
�Why?� She asked. �Isn�t this better than you going there and something bad happening. I know what he plans to do to you if he ever meets you again. He wants all of us dead. You know that yourself.�
�I think that we must first arrange to meet Mr Moody.�

�The one with the strange eye, yes?�
�That is the one.�

Severus stayed quiet. He was not pleased at the thought that Albus might allow her to spy on the Dark Lord if Moody could not see her. He was afraid that something would happen to her regardless of her powers. He rose from his chair and left the office without a word.
Nina looked at the Headmaster, unsure what to do.
�He is worried Nina. He fears for you.�

�I know but�.how do I�.we�.No, you convince him that it will be okay?�

She had decided to let the Headmaster talk to Severus first. She was fed up of getting the rough end of the stick each time he was upset or angry about something.
Albus raised his eyebrows a little. �The worm is turning.� He had noticed that Nina was gradually coming out of her shell a little. It was in fits and starts but her own personality was definitely coming to the fore. �She would eventually be quite a formidable young lady.� He thought.

He sighed. �I will speak to him.�

�Before dinner? Before I have to see him?�

�Very well?�

�You promise?�
He smiled as his eyes twinkled once more.

�I promise.�
�Maybe now would be a good time. If he broods about it he�ll get really cranky and I don�t want to be near him this time when he does.�
�Miss Manohel. You are a very hard taskmaster. Do you know that?�
She shrugged her shoulders. She didn�t know what that meant, but she liked the sound of it so said nothing. Instead she looked at him and grinned.

He disappeared. She had sent him directly to Severus before Apperating to her own rooms and making sure that neither of them could get in.
