Chapter 25

Kathy watched in amazement as every last scrap of food was devoured. She�d made tons of buns, biscuits and cakes, and every last crumb was gone.

Molly came up beside her. �You get used to it, it�s always the same. Doesn�t matter how much food you put on the table, someone will always be looking for more.�
�Wow,� Was all Kathy could manage.
�Any more of those little buns left?�
�Sirius, no there aren�t, you greedy lot have cleared her out.�
Sirius looked at Molly, then turned sheepishly to Kathy. �Sorry, we�re a gluttonous lot. Nice food though, it�s no wonder it�s all gone.�
Molly rolled her eyes and left to talk to a redheaded wizard that was trying to get her attention.
�Hello, Sirius Black at your service madam.� He gave another of his courtly bows.
Kathy smirked at him. �You�re the loud one. Kathy Ripley, hello.�
�Loud? I�ll have you know I am of the shy, quiet, retiring type. Nothing loud about me Kathy Ripley.� He said with a grin. �Tell me, are your talents confined to the kitchen, or do you have other, hidden abilities?�
Kathy was scandalized at the mans blatant flirting and wasn�t sure how to respond. So she blushed, brightly.
Severus was about to enter the kitchen when he saw Black talking to Kathy, his face was a mask of fury when he heard him flirting openly with her. He didn�t see her embarrassment since she had her back to him, but because she didn�t immediately rebuff him, Severus assumed that she was enjoying the attentions of his nemesis and stalked away angrily.
Kathy meanwhile was wishing the ground would open up and swallow her. Sirius took her blush as a sign of welcoming shyness and started making moves on her. Leech or not, she was pretty enough to get his juices bubbling and he wanted to know how far he could go with her, hopefully all the way. Besides, if she�d had a husband and kids, she couldn�t be all that dangerous and he�d been too long without a woman.
Kathy felt hemmed in. This man had somehow managed to corner her and she couldn�t think of a way to get out of his reach without being rude. She�d never had to deal with anything like this before, Severus hadn�t been this way, in fact they way this man was looking at her reminded her more of the men who forced themselves on her when she was captured and she felt the panic beginning to rise in her chest, restricting her breath.
Sirius didn�t notice the fear in her eyes, if he had he�d have heard alarm bells ringing in his head, all he heard were her quickened breaths, the way she panted as he stared down at her swollen breasts. As soon as he placed a hand gently on her hip she struck him hard across the face, then pushed him and ran from the room.
Sirius stood shocked and rubbing his stinging cheek, while Kathy pushed her way through the throng of people and ran to her bedroom.
Severus witches and wizards stared after her, puzzled as to why she�d pushed passed them so aggressively, but only Severus, Albus, and Molly noticed how distressed she was.
His anger finally boiling over, Severus charged for the kitchen. Not waiting for an explanation, he grabbed Black by the scruff of his neck and slammed him into the wall. �What did you do to her you fucking animal?� He demanded.
�Get your damned hands off me Snivellus. I didn�t do anything.�

�Obviously you did, or she would not have ran to her room in tears. I should kill you now and ask her what happened later.�

�Ha. Your just jealous. She was begging for it, she just got cold feet that�s all.�
Severus replied with a swift right hook that sent Sirius sprawling to the floor in a heap.
�That�s enough Severus, I will deal with him now. Go cool off, Molly is with Kathy.�
Severus turned to find his path blocked by a group of wizards and witches all wondering what the fight was about.

He pushed his way through them.
�Cool right hook Professor.� Tonks shouted after him. She earned herself a few frowns from some of the older one�s present.
Severus allowed himself a smirk at the comment as he entered his living room and drew out a bottle of fire whiskey. His hand hurt like hell from the punch, but the sound of Black�s jaw crunching beneath his fist had been most satisfying. But so help him, if the bastard had harmed Kathy in any way, not even Albus Dumbledore would prevent him from killing Black.

Three whiskeys and many calming breaths later, Severus made his way back to Kathy�s rooms.
Fortunately Black was nowhere to be seen, apparently Albus had suggested he apologise to Kathy and return to Grimauld Place.

Sirius really was sorry, he�d not really listened when Severus had been explaining about her capture by Death Eaters, and the fact that she was from a bygone era had bypassed him completely. He was so glad to be away from his oppressive home for a few hours that he�d not cared why he was at Hogwarts, only that he was. He honestly thought all women were susceptible to his charms and did not for one minute realise he was frightening her.
Kathy accepted his apology coldly while Molly ordered more tea from the kitchens.

When Remus approached her she was happy to speak with him mainly because of his resemblance to her late husband.
Again Severus felt a rush of jealously when he saw them both cosy on the sofa, but he held his emotions in check while watching her all the time.

A hand on his arm caught his attention. He looked down to see Molly Weasley.
�She�s alright Severus, just a bit shook up. Sirius didn�t mean any real harm, and Albus has given him a good scolding and sent him packing. And don�t go after Remus, he reminds her of her husband that�s all. She told me. It�s the hair I think, and Remus won�t do anything untoward, you know that.�
Severus retained his stony silence, giving no indication that he was even listening, but Molly knew he was.
�She knows the truth about you now Severus. She feels bad about how she reacted to you and Albus and wants to apologise, but she thinks you will be angry at her and won�t listen. Give her time Severus, she likes you, a lot.�

She left him to find Arthur.
Severus mulled over Molly�s words. �Liked him a lot?� Yet there she was talking to Lupin because he reminded her of David. Well she�d certainly not wanted Black�s advances, and he doubted Lupin had the gall to try and make a move on her, in fact he doubted it would even enter the werewolf�s head. He smirked at the thought of how Kathy would react when she discovered she�d been talking to a werewolf. If he were honest with himself, he reckoned she would most likely accept him for what he was. She�d suffered her share of rejection and prejudice, it wasn�t in her nature to dismiss someone on the grounds of being something that was beyond their control. But she�d rejected him, though at the time she�d believed he was a Death Eater by choice, and though at one time he was, he was now of a completely different mind-set. He hoped Molly was right about Kathy, that she truly did like him, in fact he wanted her to more than �like� him. His feelings for her ran to more than �like�.
