-Chapter Twenty-Five-
The morning of April 20th, Teddy's birthday, rolled around with the sun shining and birds chirping away outside.
From his spot on the couch with his feet up since his ankles were already swelling up, rubbed his large, swollen belly smiling as his daughter kicked lightly where his hand was.
“I know sweetie your daddy is taking so long to get ready.” Harry said loudly, laughing when he heard Draco's protest from way back in the bedroom.
“Oi looking good takes time!” Draco shouted.
“Are you saying I don't look good?” Harry called back.
With a yelp, Draco rushed down the hall and into the living room and placed a kiss on Harry's forehead saying, “You always look good to me, love.”
“Yes, yes you know how to suck up when you say the wrong thing.” Harry said pushing his head away as Draco dove in for another kiss. “Just hurry up because I want to go take one last look around the toy store for Teddy before we need to be back here before Remus, Sirius, and Teddy get here.”
“They wouldn't care if we took a little longer to get back.” Draco argued.
“Fine that's true, but lets just hurry because my ankles are swelling up, and my back is hurting and I want to relax so I'm not grumpy when Teddy gets here.”
“Love you know we've already bought Teddy quite a few gifts we don't need to go to the store today if you're not feeling up to it.”
“I know I just want to take another look around and see if there's anything else I want to get him.”
“Alright lets get our shoes and everything on and we can go.” Draco said. “Stay here and I'll bring yours and help you into them, okay?”
“For once I won't complain about you helping me get my shoes on.” Harry said with a nod.
Walking over, Draco knelt down and slipped the comfortable shoes onto Harry's feet then did up the laces. Standing up, Draco helped Harry stand up, steadying him as he wobbled a bit before helping him slip on the light jacket he was wearing.
“How do I look?” Harry asked, opening his arms to show off the light, black jacket, light, green long sleeved shirt, and blue maternity jeans.
“Beautiful as always.” Draco said, leaning in and pecking his lips with a soft kiss.
Giving a chuckle, Harry said, “Like I said, you're a suck up.”
“Okay it's nine AM now we've got from now until eleven when I'm calling enough and we're coming back home so you can rest before the others get here at one.”
“That's more than enough time so lets get going. I'm just glad that it's a Saturday and the stores are open earlier today.” Harry said, following Draco over to the fireplace.
“Follow me through and I'll catch you on the other side.” Draco said, familiar with how unstable Harry was when flooing now that his stomach was at full size and he was close to the end of his pregnancy.
After Draco went through, Harry waited about half a minute before he stepped into the floo and called out his destination. When he emerged, he leaned into Draco's side, closed his eyes, and covered his mouth hoping to push away the nauseousness.
Once he felt like he could safely open his eyes without losing his breakfast, Harry laced his arm through Draco's and headed out into Diagon Alley and straight towards the toy store located there.
As they approached it, Harry muttered, “Stairs...why must every place have stairs.”
“We can always head home if you want to, love.” Draco said, trying to placate his mate.
“No...no I'll be fine it's only five steps.” Harry said, stubbornly walking slowly up the steps and into the building, feeling eyes watching him from the shoppers in the Alley.
Heading into the first aisle, Harry slowly browsed through the toys there, looking for anything that might interest his two year old godson. Ignoring the throbbing of his ankles and the pain in his back, Harry forced himself to keep walking and looking.
About a half hour, Harry decided he had to admit defeat and turned to his mate.
“I think we're done here, Dray. I can't find anything that I think Teddy would like that he doesn't already have or what we got him and is already wrapped.”
“So you want to head home?”
“Yeah. I'm about ready to head home.”
“What do you need before we do?” Draco asked, noticing Harry's slight hesitation.
“I could go for a delicious hot fudge sundae with lots of hot fudge, cherries, and strawberries.” Harry said with a bashful smile.
“If that's what you want I'll get one for you.”
“You're the best. Why don't you go and get it and I'll make my way back to the floo station. I don't want to walk more than I need to right now.” Harry suggested.
Looking like he was going to protest that idea, Draco eventually nodded and said, “Alright I'll meet you over there in a few minutes.”
Nodding, Harry followed after Draco slowly, wincing as each step made his ankles throb. As he reached the door Draco was walking across the Alley towards the ice cream shop located there.
Grabbing onto the railing, Harry slowly stepped down the first step only to gasp as two hands roughly connected with his back and shoved him, causing him to tumble down the steps. He felt a sharp pain in his shoulder as his hand was ripped from the railing, but he forgot about that as a sharp pain ripped through his stomach.
Curling around his stomach, Harry hoped his arms were enough to protect the child inside of him. He had barely touched the ground, with a constant keening whine, when Draco was back at his side, shouting his name and touching him all over.
“Harry! Oh god, love, are you alright?” He asked, frantically.
Whining, Harry groaned and curled tighter around his stomach as the sharp pain tore through him again.
“Hold on, love. I'm going to bring you home and get Jessie there.” Draco said, scooping Harry up into his arms. For a split second he contemplated hunting down whomever had hurt his mate, but when Harry clutched at his stomach and whined again, he forgot that and ran down the Alley as fast as he could; his mate and child came first.
The next few minutes were such a jumbled mess that Draco didn't know how he managed to safely floo them back to the house and then firecall Jessie and then his mother to let her know what was happening. Once he finished the call with his mother, who promised to call Sirius and Remus and let them know what happened, Draco rushed back to the bedroom and dropped to his knees beside the bed and scooped Harry's hand up.
“Hurts, Merlin it hurts so much.” Harry gasped out through clenched teeth, his face white from the pain.
“Hold on, love. Jessie will be here soon.” Draco said even as he heard someone nearly falling out of the fireplace.
“Draco, Harry I'm here where are you!” Jessie called out, sounding slightly frantic.
“In the bedroom.” Draco called back, refusing to leave Harry's side.
Looking to the door, Draco watched as Jessie rushed in, hair thrown up in a messy bun with her small brown bag clenched in her fist.
“Talk to me. Tell me what happened.” She ordered as she hurried and started pulling things out of the bag.
“We were in Diagon Alley, Harry wanted to do some last minute shopping. We were getting ready to head home, but I was getting Harry an ice cream he wanted. I heard him fall. He fell, was pushed, down a small flight of steps from the toy store.” Draco said, looking frantic as he thought back.
Pulling her wand out, she gave it a wave ignoring the slight snarl that Draco gave at that.
“Draco, I need you to calm down or leave the room. The baby's coming now and you need to calm down and try to reign in your protective mode or else you have to leave. I can't be worried about you attacking me while I deliver your baby.” She said with a serious look in her eyes.
Nodding, Draco took a deep breath and then crawled up onto the bed and sat up by Harry's head and started carding his fingers through the slightly messy hair.
“Okay Harry, I need you to take these two potions. This one will alleviate the pain you feel and the other one right here will keep you from loosing too much blood when I open you up.”
Nodding, Harry continued to gasp in short bursts as he reached out with a trembling hand to accept the two vials of potions.
Reaching out, Draco gently held onto Harry's hand to steady it and helped him bring the vial to his lips so he could drink it before repeating the motions with the other.
“Draco it sounds like there are others here.” Jessie said as they heard feet rushing towards the room and the sound of Teddy screaming and crying. “Why don't you go tell them what's going on and then get whatever you want to dress the baby in when she comes out while the potions start to work.”
Giving a displeased growl at that suggestion, Draco seemed like he was going to refuse until Harry nudged him with his shoulder.
“Go, love. Try and get them to relax and then get the outfit for the baby. You don't want her to be cold when she comes out do you?”
Sighing, Draco said, “Alright. I'll be right back, love, I promise.” With that he got off of the bed and rushed out of the room, leaving behind a slightly amused Jessie.
“All mates have the same reaction when their baby is coming. Mine refused to leave and even charmed cement blocks on his feet so that the Mediwitch delivering my baby would leave him alone.”
Giving a pained laugh, Harry smiled as the potions started working and the pain started to dissipate. “I'm actually surprised that worked with, Draco...well actually no I'm not. He wouldn't want his daughter being cold.”
Nodding, Jessie asked, “So how are you feeling right now?”
“Okay. I can't really feel the pain anymore so that's a plus.”
“Good, good. That means it's about time to get started so we can be done and have you healed up before the potions wear off.”
As if summoned by those words, Draco returned to the room, setting down a small bundle of clothes and returned to his spot on the bed.
“I've got some news once the baby is safely out. I don't want to stress you out before that.” Draco said, pressing a kiss to Harry's forehead.
“Okay we're all set. Draco you'll need to stay there and just focus on Harry. Try not to focus on me.”
Nodding, Draco bent down and pressed another kiss to Harry's forehead and looked into the slightly teary emerald eyes.
Whispering to Harry about anything and everything he could think of, Draco tried to ignore the coppery scent of blood rising up to his nose.
Without realizing it, Draco let out a hiss as his claws started to emerge at the scent of his mate's blood, but when Harry hissed at him, he stopped and rubbed their cheeks together with a purr.
Looking down, Harry was surprised to see a floating white sheet blocking his view, but he was kind of glad considering he knew what was happening down there.
It was about ten minutes later when Jessie spoke up from her spot down by the end of the bed as a wail erupted from the newborn.
“Alright, gentlemen. Here she is.” Jessie said removing the sheet with one hand. Moving up to the side of the bed, she gently placed the newborn in Harry's arms. The baby had a beautiful head full of soft blonde locks and her eyes were bright blue that seemed to be shining up at them.
Giving a purr, Harry nuzzled against Draco before carefully lifting the little girl up so that he could gently nuzzle her as well.
“She's a healthy 6 pounds 5 ounces and eighteen and a half inches. Have you decided on a name that I can put on the birth certificate?”
“Jemma. Jemma Soleil. Our precious sunshine.” Draco whispered, running his fingers gently down his daughter's cheek.
