"Hermione. Where were you last night? I was ready to go round the twist when you didn't come back." Harry said as he stood by her the next morning at breakfast.
As usual she sat with Adrien and Luna, and the younger Snape eyed her knowingly as she prepared to lie to her green-eyed friend.
"I was in the Library." Hermione replied, taking a sip of her pumpkin juice.
"No." Harry laughed. "You weren't. I put on my cloak and went to search for you, but you were no longer there."
"Oh. She stayed in Slytherin House with me last night." Adrien smoothly came to her aid.
"Oh... Well, why didn't you just say so?" Harry laughed as he took a seat next to her. "Do you still have the Map?"
"Of course." Hermione said, pulling it from her robes pocket to hand to him.
Harry tapped his Map, muttered his solemn swear, and when it came to life he surveyed it for a moment with a puzzled expression upon his face.
"Who is Salia Halberstram?" he asked, looking up and around to the three of them.
Hermione's eyes widened, knowing exactly who it was. She looked to Adrien's face that had gone paler than usual before he snatched the Map away from Harry's hands to see for himself.
Salia Halberstram and Severus Snape's dots could be seen in the court yard.
He hurriedly tossed the Map back to Harry, and without saying another word, he jumped from the Gryffindor table and sailed out of the Great Hall. Luna looked just as confused as Harry, but Hermione followed Adrien.
"Adrien, wait!" Hermione commanded. The younger Snape stopped in his tracks and turned to her.
"I won't let him take her back, Hermione. Over my dead fucking body."
"Listen... Let's just disillusion ourselves and get in for a closer listen, shall we? Perhaps she's not here to beg him back after all these years." she reasoned.
Adrien looked grudging, obviously fighting the urge to go and throttle his own mother.
Hermione waved her wand over the two of them, and they set off at a quieter pace. They heard voices as they got closer to the two.
"-So why didn't you come sooner, if you had heard about it happening almost a whole year ago, Salia? It really doesn't make much sense to me now, so why are you here? Come to see if I've finally perished from the injuries I've sustained?" they heard Severus's heated tone.
The two peeked around the corner, and saw Severus standing with his arms crossed with a quite dismayed expression upon his face, while a very beautiful witch stood before him. Pleading with him. She was very pale skinned, with long curly black hair that went past her back side. She had red lips and striking eyes. Green, if Hermione saw right. She wore a lacy shall and a tight-fitting black dress that hugged her admittedly nice curves, and Hermione couldn't help but be jealous of the sight.
"Severus... I... When I heard you almost lost your life in the war, I wanted to come as quickly as I could, but I had other things to tend to...-" she stepped to him, and made to reach out to him, but he jerked away from her, and took another step back. "- but I'm here now, Severus... I miss you and my son. I want us to be a family again." she said.
Hermione felt Adrien tense at her side as he waited to hear his father's reply, and it disturbed her. She had never seen Adrien so distraught.
"Well, Salia, I must say you haven't changed a bit. Forever stuck in your misguided and treacherous ways, deceiving those who are supposed to be closest to you. What makes you think that Adrien wants anything to do with you?" he asked her in his most disgusted tone.
"I'm his mother, Severus. Of course he wants to know me." she said defensively.
Before Hermione could stop him, Adrien waved the counter spell over himself and spoke up as he made to walk toward the two.
"No. I don't want anything to do with a slag who mistreats her husband, and abandons her family." Adrien spat, pointing his wand at her with the utmost hate in his eyes.
"Adrien, you don't understand,-" Salia began.
"Oh I understand enough. Dad, you're not going to take her back are you?" the younger Snape asked, eyeing his father's expression.
Severus seemed to be in a state of shock at the situation while he mulled it over.
Adrien turned his attention back to the woman.
"Fourteen years, and you come back here, trying to make nice, well it isn't going to happen, Salia. You're a slag, a deceiver, and a horrible cunt.-" Adrien seethed through gritted teeth, still holding her at point.
"Adrien, your mother is here because she caught wind that I almost lost my life. Isn't that just... Sweet?" Severus said sarcastically to his son.
"Oh that's fucking tragic. No doubt trying to see what you could get out of it? If anything at all? Tell me, why hadn't it crossed your mind to send word, all through out the years I was growing up?" Adrien pressed on questioning Salia.
"Adrien, none of that matters anymore. I'm here now, and I'm not going away." Salia said, holding her hands up, as if to surrender to her son.
"Yes. You are, Salia. You are going back to the hell hole from which you came, and you will not resurface. The boy has clearly made up his mind." Severus spat, raising a disgusted brow at the woman.
"Severus,-" Salia began sadly. "I love you. I've always loved you."
If Hermione didn't know any better, she would say that the sentiment was as real as real could be, but she remembered how Adrien said she was a master deceiver.
"You've always loved me? Tell me, did you love me whilst beneath several other men? Did you love me while displaying yourself to the Dark Lord to earn his fancy? You disgust me, Salia. If you're after money, I have none to spare to you, and even if I did, I wouldn't give it to you." Severus ranted at her, seeming to have regained his cool disposition.
"Of course it isn't about money, Severus,-" Salia began crossing her own arms. "it is about me wanting my family back! Nothing more." she exclaimed.
"You don't have a family, Salia. I am not the same person as I was, and neither is Adrien. I've not hesitated to tell him all your faults when he's asked through out his life. He knows exactly what kind of witch you are. You are nothing but evil in human form." Severus rounded again.
Salia maintained her collected expression, and Hermione swore she saw a glint of something absolutely evil behind her eyes. It made the fine hair on her neck seemingly stand; a powerful energy radiated from the woman like she was dark magic in it's true form. Salia Halberstram was most definitely the most evil thing she had experienced since Voldemort's Horcruxes.
"What ever you say, Severus.-" her tone had changed drastically from when Hermione and Adrien first happened upon the conversation. It was more sadistic; matter of fact.
"In any event,-" she pressed on. "I will be staying in Hogsmeade for the week, and I do hope you two mull it over between yourselves to come speak to me."
Salia made to stroke Adrien's cheek, but he jerked away from her, and gripped his wand tighter as he still held her there.
"Not likely to happen..." he growled, low and dangerously. Hermione had to admit, Adrien was very fearsome when he was this angry.
"Very well..." she shrugged. "I can still keep my hopes up." she said as she made to leave the court yard.
Salia walked right past Hermione, and eyed her up and down as if she knew she was there, and then the girl realized she could see her. What was this woman? There was obviously more to her than what Adrien had initially told her. The three of them watched as Salia walked away; her long tight-fitting dress trailing the ground as if it were silky black smoke. Hermione caught the scent of something heavenly in her wake. Salia smelled of something that she couldn't quite put her finger on.
She turned, still invisible, watching Severus and Adrien engage in a heated talk as the father lead his son away, no doubt heading down to the dungeons to administer him a calming draught of sorts. This was definitely not good.
