“You’re sisters are sweet” Severus said as they walked up the lane towards the tall house that leaned sort of to the right “I was nervous at first but they aren’t as irritating as the first years are”
“Yet” Hermione pointed out to him “And its because you don’t have to teach them anything”
“Maybe” He said and looked at the house before them “Do we have to go in?”
“Yes” She answered and pulled him to the door.
The Weasleys were all milling about the narrow house opening presents, laughing and hugging one another. Snape was horrified. Hermione was welcomed with open arms, Severus…not so much, even though everyone understood the law and sympathized with her reasons for whom she chose to marry, that didn’t mean they were particularly happy with it. Molly, of course, ran over and enveloped him in a warm and welcoming hug followed by a pregnant Ginny Potter. Harry nodded at him and Ron’s glare was only half-hearted as he passed, Arthur seemed a little flustered but was kind none the less.
“Hermione” Molly said as they sat down with the family in the living room “Arthur and I got you this” She handed her a present that turned out to be a very rare book on Ancient Runes that she had been having difficulty finding “Actually, it was only with Bill’s help that we got this book so it’s from him as well”
“Where is he?” Hermione asked, looking around the red-haired family for the oldest male child.
“He and Fluer took Victorie to France for Christmas with her family” Molly explained “They did Christmas with us last night. It’s been this way since the first Christmas after the war”
“And Charlie?” Hermione asked “Where’s he?”
“He and his new girlfriend are in Japan I think” Molly answered with a sniff “Apparently, she wanted to spend the holiday traveling instead of with family”
“Molly-dear” Arthur said soothingly and then looked at Hermione “She lost her parents and little brother in the war. It’s just her now, being here in England…it brings up bad memories”
“It does for many” Hermione said “Molly this is from Severus and I”
“Thank you, dear” She smiled and opened the black Christmas paper (Severus’s choice) and gasped raising her eyes to them “How…this is too much, I just…I couldn’t possibly…”
“Molly” Hermione cut her off “You’re getting older and you’ve taken in five orphans. One who won’t be starting Hogwarts until next year, the three behind that one have even longer to go and only one in school…you need this and deserve it”
“What is it, mum?” Ron asked.
“This” Molly handed over the little card that had been sitting upon a wizarding magazine with a small smile.
“A house-elf?” He asked “But how does this work?”
“We’ve already paid for the elf” Severus explained “It works like a payment waiting in a vault for the company to take the money when your mother places her order for the perfect elf for her”
“It’s barbaric” Hermione said “However, you’re mother deserves to have some help around the house”
“So, you place an order for an elf and it’s what?” Ginny asked “Made to order?” She laughed.
“Find out for yourself” Hermione answered with a smile and handed her the present in her hand “I know that it’s been harder for you now that you’re pregnant and Kreature has passed away”
“Oh my gods!” Ginny jumped up and down “Harry, look!” He smiled indulgently and looked over her shoulder at the magazine “Our own house-elf”
Presents were exchanged between Hermione and the Weasleys but not one present for Snape that she could see. She was irritated with everyone for that and vowed that tomorrow she would send a heavily worded letter to everyone telling them that she was angry, hurt and didn’t want to talk to any of them until they got their heads out of their asses. Hermione walked in to the kitchen when Molly called Severus over, she wanted to stay with him feeling the need to protect him but he waved her in to the other room. Five minutes later Molly came in and wiped her eyes before going over to the stove to finish with her cooking. Another five minutes later and Arthur came in with a small smile on his face while Remus followed him. Severus walked straight through the kitchen quickly and out to door with some stuff clasped in his hands.
“Severus?” Hermione stood up and followed him out the door “Severus, please. I know that this isn’t really your scene but please, don’t leave…I didn’t know that…”
“Hermione!” He turned to look at her and she realized the reason he left wasn’t because of any of the attitudes he had received it was because he was having trouble keeping his emotions in check. When he turned to look at her his eyes were red and she could tell that they were glassy and his Adams-Apple was quivering “She gave me this” He held out a Weasley sweater.
“I know they’re not…well, pretty by any means” Hermione said “But they are tradition and…” Suddenly, the card game came back to her and her eyes widened as his words from a week ago, when they had been laying on the beach playing and getting to know one another “I don’t have a favorite Christmas present…I’ve never gotten one”
“I don’t…” He closed his eyes and she could see him trying to regain his composure “Why…she called me…”
“Severus” Hermione whispered, she walked over to him and put her arms around his waist as she laid her head against his chest “Molly Weasley is an amazing woman that can love and forgive everyone”
“She called me son” He told her “And gave me this ghastly sweater that makes my heart hurt and I…”
“Please tell me you didn’t say something horrible” Hermione pleaded.
“I hugged her” He whispered as if he had indeed done something unforgivable however Hermione threw herself in to his arms tighter and then kissed him.
“Come on!” She said “Let’s go eat. I’m starving and Ron might not leave us anything” They got in right as Remus was pulling out the chair for Tonks to sit down and sat near her.
“Oh Hermione!” Tonks smiled brightly “You’re right in time, I was going to make an announcement”
“And what is it?” She asked.
“I’m pregnant again” She looked elated and Hermione felt that strange little pain rip through her heart at the news.
“Congratulations” She exclaimed and she and a crying Ginny hugged her “I am so jealous!”
“Watch out, Severus” Remus said in warning “Or Hermione will be the next one making this announcement”
“I have an announcement as well” Luna said with a smile “Ronald and I are going to get married in April”
“Congratulations!” Hermione said again and hugged her “Oh I can’t wait until I have an announcement of some sort!”
“Oh” Harry said with a laugh “You are so in trouble Snape”
The night went better than Hermione could have anticipated and she was in tears and had to hide in the bathroom for a few minutes to cry when Molly had remember that Severus’s favorite dessert was custard pie and made one just for him. He was surprised and asked her how she could possibly remember that, no one had ever remembered what he liked. She leaned down and whispered just so the two of them (and Remus with his super-hearing) could hear what she was saying and told him “I always remember what my boys like, even if they are a bit prickly” They went home at nearly midnight and instead of opening their own presents or having sex they went to bed and took comfort in each-others arms. For the first time in Severus’s thirty-nine (nearly forty) years on the earth, he had been accepted by a family, he had laughed (quietly) and he felt loved by someone other than Hermione. Molly Weasley treated him like her seventh or maybe her eighth (she had Potter after all) son and made him feel better with her smiles and with one damn sweater she obliterated walls he’d built around himself. She reduced him to near-tears and with one custard pie he felt a love unlike Hermione’s a love that he was sure was a mother’s love. He liked it.
A/N: OOC Snape. But I wanted to touch of Molly Weasley’s ability to love, to pay attention and to break down someone walls. I wanted to show love, something that Severus Snape never had. Please Review!!!!
