Chapter 25: The halloween party part II

Sirius's POV

I watched as Lex and Snape came into the great hall. She was wearing the necklace I had sent her, I had to remember to thank Lydia in my next letter. I managed to control my jealousy as she and Snape came in, and as per our agreement I left their table as soon as they sat down. I had agreed with Snape that he could have this night with her, so I might as well do it right.

I stood on the side of the dancefloor when I saw Lex pulling Snape close to dance with him. I didn't want to see this happening, so I asked Mary to dance, she gladly came with me. 'She liked your gift' Mary said. 'I'm sorry?' I asked her, how could she know? Had Lex told her? 'I found her with it in the dorms, she was tearing up, so I asked what was wrong, she showed me your note, very romantic.' she said. 'It belonged to my great-grandmother, she meant a lot to me.' I told her truthfully. 'I promised Alex I wouldn't tell anyone, and I won't, but I thought you should know of her reaction to it.' I nodded in thanks, and returned Mary to her table when the song was over.

When I saw my brother leading Lex onto the dancefloor, I went to join Snape. 'Not jealous of him then?' I asked, taking the open seat next to him. He was clearly displeased at my being here.'What do you want Black?' He asked, clearly annoyed. 'I was just wondering why you aren't jealous of my brother touching her?' Snape and I looked over at them again, Lex was laughing at something Regulus had said, and it made my blood pressure rise with contained jealousy. Snape's answer was very unexpected. 'He's not in love with her, so he's no competition, you are.'I processed that. 'How are you so sure he's not in love with her?' I wanted to know. Snape didn't answer, he just got up and left me sitting there. After the dance, Regulus came to the table, as Lex looked around, searching for Snape no doubt. 'Where is Severus?' he asked, as I saw Lex going outside. 'At the bar' I said curtly. I watched the dancers for a minute, and suddenly felt my heart rate go up again, inexplicably. My vision clouded, and the first thing that came to mind was that Lex was in danger. Without thinking I got up and stumbled outside, my vision still clouded, so I bumped into many other students. Once I got outside, my vision cleared, and I was Snape standing hunched over, as if he had just been trough the same. He looked up at me 'Where is she?' I asked him. He didn't have to answer, I could hear her screaming and shouting as well now. I followed his lead towards the source of the noise. We 'Fetch a teacher' I shouted at the next person we came by. They looked startled, but went back inside anyway. There was a circle of bushes at the end of the path we were on. I was sure someone had magicked them this way, to keep everyone out. I took out my wand, and put the neares one on fire, in the hope of getting trough. Together we were able to blast a hole large enough to see what was going on. Someone had Lex pinned to the ground. As far as I could tell, she was putting up one hell of a fight. I could hear her plaeding with hom to let her go, not to do this, and we both put more effort in getting trough the bushes. When we got trough, he had his pants around his ankles, and was hitsching up Lex's Skirt. Snape picked up her wand, which her attacker had trown aside. Her attacker still hadn't noticed us, his attention still on trying to get underneath Lex' skirt. Lex stopped fighting him when she noticed us. She looked me straight in the eye, and she seemed to relax. Her attacker noticed the change, and looked up at us. It was Peter Pettigrew, I had never expected this of him. 'Get in line boys, when I'm done with this one you can each have a go as well' he said. I was disgusted at this boy, whom I had considered my friend.
Before we could act however, I heard Lex's voice in my head shouting 'NO!' At that a dome of fire seemed to protect her, burning him where he was touching her. He drew back 'What is this magic?' he asked, panicked, as the dome moved with him, encasing him in it.
'Expelliarmus' Snape shouted, pointing his wand at Peter. He threw Lex her own wand, which she gratefully caught. 'She sat up, casting a quick non-verbal spell that knocked Peter out. Taking a deep, steadying breath, she pointed her wand at him and said 'obliviate'. She tried to get up, but it seemed she couldn't. Both Snape and I made our way towards her, but that was the moment the teachers arrived. 'What happened here? Dumbledore asked. Lex told him that she had been walking in the garden looking for Snape, when she had been grabbed by Peter, who charmed the bushes to keep her in. She told them he had said that he had wanted to rape her since the night of the quidditch game. That he had been planning this for a while. I confirmed that I had found Peter on the verge of raping Lex. Dumbedore looked as if he didn't believe a word Lex had said. 'This is a very serious accusation Miss Zabini' he said. We will take Mr. pettigrew to the hospital wing and when he awakes we will confront him about this. I want to hear his version of events before I make any decision.' Lex simply nodded, as if she hadn't expected anything else from him, but I was furious. How could the great Dumbledore be so cold about this? When he was gone Mc Gonagall asked 'Miss Zabini, are you hurt?' Lex shook her head, and got up. 'Then I think you should either get back to the dance, or get back to your dormitory.' Again, Lex simply nodded. We walked back to the great hall. When Mc Gonagall was out of earshot, Lex spoke again 'Thank you for trying to save me.' before walking her way towards the Ravenclaw common room.
