‘Tell me everything you know.’ Persephone hissed as she coiled in a slightly less threatening position. Her crocodile friend wouldn’t be back for their usual gossip for a while so she wanted details and Gloria can confirm later.

Kathy instructed her bowtruckles to safely lift the leaf of the deadly plant, “As you can see there are spines on the back. A person or creature won’t see them and will get slashed by these barbs if they go for the fruit tucked behind the leaves. Can anyone tell me what uses this plant has?”
One student behind Julian raised her hand, “The wicks in potion candles.”
“That’s one. Any others?” Kathy asked and smiled as a few other students raised their hands. The class continued for 5 more minutes before Kathy shifted the subject. “Now before you go I want you all to check out this field trip. It will be a series of five trips throughout the year starting this weekend. You’ll meet three schools in magical Britain and two people, randomly chosen of course, from each school will take part in the tournament. Discuss it with your guardians about this and have a good day.” She said as Tom passed out the pamphlets with the details of the Tri-wizard tournament.
The pamphlets were carried out by intrigued students. A moment later most of the students went home except for Tom, Julian and Draco. The boys helped clean off the desks that were sticky from sap and Kathy made them some tea. It was peaceful just chatting for a few minutes as they just took a moment to relax.
Tom smiled at Draco, “Your parents must’ve been very busy.” He said kindly. The older teen knew it must’ve been hard for Draco during the last couple of weeks and there’s probably more to do. Also he got the feeling Draco didn’t like him much.
“It wasn’t too bad. Dad may have been gone a lot, but mom has had fun scaring the living daylights out of those who printed false information about Julian. She’s starting on the Daily Prophet today.” Draco muttered not really wanting to talk to Tom. “So how’s studying for the MOEs?” He asked mainly because he really wanted to change the subject. Tom may just be trying to be nice, but he didn’t want to discuss his feelings with him. Hell, he hasn’t even tried to talk to Julian yet about being called out on his jealousy.
“I’m getting there, but it’s a lot of information to learn in a small amount of time.” Tom admitted.
Julian smiled as Tanzanite plopped on his head, “You’ll do fine. Just don’t stress over it.”
Kathy nodded, “That’s very true. Besides, it may seem like a lot, but you’re learning at a fast pace. You’ll be ready by the time the MOEs come around and then you’ll only be a little behind Julian and Draco. For now don’t worry about it. As for the coming field trips Brian discussed that you will be staying in a Gringotts’ safe house when he is gone over each tournament day.”
“Yeah.” Tom nodded as he recalled what was discussed with his guardian. “A goblin by the name of Grizzlegore will be escorting me during the days of the tournament. It should only be for a few hours each day. I already spoke to Grizzlegore. He’ll be picking me up, but we don’t need to go straight to the safehouse. He said we can go visit Persephone too so it won’t feel too much like I’m being guarded.” He said. Tom understood why Brian wanted to take extra precautions, especially since it was Dumbledore, but it felt a bit unnerving.
Julian smiled comfortingly, “It’s only for a few days and this time Dumbledore will be stopped.” Everyone jumped when Draco’s phone rang. “Who is that?” Julian asked curiously when Draco checked the text and smirked.
As Sasha climbed onto his lap Draco snorted, “My mother says the Daily Prophet trial is starting. She and the goblins will be charging them for every single time they used the name Harry Potter. I hope they get even more.” Draco said taking a sadistic joy in this and so was his mother, who was still trying to figure out texting ...

Narcissa huffed as she tapped the buttons on the little keyboard. “Where’s the smiley?” Just as she found the smiley face she wanted and sent the text a goblin showed her to her seat on the right side of the goblin overseeing the trial. She was facing the reporters who were guided into the room. They looked scared and why wouldn’t they be? Narcissa had her most intimidating face on.
“I, Judge Slashrake, will be overseeing these proceedings-“ the goblin paused as a set of high heels clacked their way into the courtroom.
The owner of those loud heels was a stylish blonde woman in a deep green dress suit and carried a matching bag. Everyone watched her smile smugly as she gracefully sat in the seats across from the judge, which were meant for visitors who want to watch the trials or reporters. Since most people were too scared of being called out for gossiping about Harry Potter and all the reporters were the ones being sued, that section was basically empty except for the blonde woman. However, not everyone was happy about that …
One reporter stood up and glared at Narcissa, “Why the fuck-“
“No swearing in my courtroom!” The goblin boomed making the reporters flinch.
“I apologize for my language, Judge Slashrake.” The reporter said quickly not wanting to make things even worse for him, but the smug blonde woman was doing nothing to help him keep his temper in check. In fact, she pulled a martini glass and flask out of her purse and poured herself a classy pink drink. “Why is Rita Skeeter not being sued with us? She’s been part of dozens of controversial and blatant poison pen stories before.”
“But not about Harry Potter.” Rita said smugly before adding a lemon slice to the rim of her glass and, after raising her glass to them mockingly, she took a drink of the pink cocktail.
Narcissa scoffed, “Despite her usual reputation that is actually true. She never wrote about Harry Potter. Only you lot have been found guilty of that and the proof is in every,” she dropped an issue of the Daily Prophet on the floor in the center of the room. “Single,” she dropped another issue on top of the first. “Issue.” She dropped a third issue on the pile.
All the reporters flinched, “We didn’t know-“
“Aren’t you reporters?” Narcissa asked innocently enough. “It should be your job to know, correct?” She asked pointedly, getting a snicker from Rita.
“Well … yes we are, but we got tips from people who knew about Harry Potter!” One reporter yelled, which made all the other reporters start agreeing frantically to try and dig themselves out of this mess.
“Silence!” Judge Slashrake barked and with a single snap of his long sharp claws. In an instant the seats in the reporters’ section sprouted ropes and the ropes immediately forced the desperate reporters into their seats. “Only one person can speak at a time! Now that you’ve made your point it is Lady Malfoy, who is representing the child’s side of this case, turn to speak. Lady Malfoy, if you please.” The goblin judge said politely.
“Thank you, Judge Slashrake.” Narcissa said as she stood up giving off an air of importance and intimidation. “My first question is quite simple. Who is your source?”
One person, the header the Daily Prophet to be precise, was released from his seat so he could speak, “I can’t reveal my sources.”
“Really?” Narcissa asked with a slight hum as she contemplated her next strategic move. “Your source is the very reason you’re all here being charged with publishing false stories about a child’s life. Granted, the publishing of an underage child’s name was purely on you, but the other details, the ones you now know are false, came from an unreliable source. Do you really want to protect that person under such circumstances?”
“No, of course not.” The publisher of the Daily Prophet said with a sigh. “It was Dumbledore.” He said, but immediately scowled when he heard Rita gasp in shock. When he shot the witch a look, but she was just innocently sipping at her martini and deliberately not looking at him.
Narcissa raised an eyebrow skeptically, “I find it interesting you’re bringing up the name of the very wizard who was defamed and executed for his crimes just days ago especially when you just insisted you couldn’t reveal your source.” Narcissa said and mentally smirked when she saw many of the reporters sitting across from her flinch slightly. “Why insist on protecting a dead source? No. That doesn’t sound reasonable, but I’m sure you could prove that you didn’t just try to use a dead man as a scapegoat. Considering the sudden change in your story and that this is involving a child whose abuse was shielded by these lies, I would like to ask the court to use veritaserum-“
“The previous trials with the authors weren’t asked to take veritaserum!” The Daily Prophet publisher yelped.
Narcissa hummed as if pondering the point, “They never claimed to have a source and they didn’t try to protect anyone. Most admitted pretty quickly that they wanted a quick buck and just expanded on what was already in the paper. The Daily Prophet was the first, and by far the most official, to write anything on the Boy Who Lived subject. If you had a source then that person is the root of the problem.”
Judge Slashrake scowled, “I agree. I will allow the use of Veritaserum.” The goblin said and followed it up with a snap of his clawed fingers. Mere seconds later a healer came into the room with a little bottle of the very potion that was feared for drawing out the truth. “I want each person to answer, so administer it one person at a time. Reverse it before you move on to the next. I don’t want everyone constantly answering the same question over and over again.” Judge Slashrake grumbled in a tone that made Narcissa wonder if there was actually a choir of potion-dazed people all answering the same question once before.
The publisher was about to object before the ropes from his seat dragged him back down. One by one each reporter was put under the truth drawing potion, asked for the source of their own information and released from the potion’s power. The results were surprising and rather infuriating. While most said they were told to write what they did by the publisher there were three people, the publisher included, who admitted there was no source. They took a chance to quickly bump up their very poor sales and made up some stories while under the assumption that the boy was fine.
Rita laughed, “And you people had the nerve to accuse me of-“
The goblin raised his claw demanding silence, “I understand the hypocrisy considering they tried to drag you into this because of your own deceitful reputation, but you aren’t allowed to speak on the matter unless you wish to add something relevant.”
“No thank you, Judge Slashrake. I’m good.” Rita said and shot her colleagues a smug smirk as she sipped her classy drink.
The goblin scoffed and looked at Narcissa, “Is there anything else you’d like to ask?”
Narcissa shook her head, “No. I believe that’s all.”
“Very well. Then I will proceed with listing the punishments.” Judge Slashrake said and announced the charges for every time the name ‘Harry Potter’ in a public form and making up lies without any concern for the child. After that a team of goblins came in to drag the reporters away.
“Wait! Rita, cover the tournament!” The publisher yelled as he was dragged away.
“I suppose I must since I’m the only reliable one.” Rita said mockingly as she put her purse on her arm and stood to leave with her drink.
With sassy swinging hips and clacking heels Rita walked out of the courtroom. She smugly walked over to the floo and, with her perfectly manicured red nails, grabbed a scoop of the green powder. With a few words she dropped the powder and vanished in a flurry of green flames only to appear in a fancy home. However, she didn’t stay there.
Instead she apparated away and appeared in an old dark building that had a closed sign on the front door the windows were blacked out with a spell. With the same sassy swing in her hips she went up the stairs and set her drink down on a low dresser in the hallway. Once the glass hit the dresser a powder flaked off revealing that the small amount of pink liquid left inside was actually a lumpy brownish gray sludge.
“Wonderful news!” Rita exclaimed as she sashayed into a room with a wardrobe filled with fancy clothes, a makeup table with a mirror, a full length mirror and a bed. The bed had ropes tied to each post that led to the hostage that was trying to get away, which was a beetle. “Now you really should knock that off. You’re only going to tire yourself out. Did you think I didn’t plan for your animagus form after reading your mind?” She commented as she removed the flask from her purse and put it on the makeup table.
A moment later the beetle seemed to give up and changed into a second Rita Skeeter. Now in her human form you could see that the ropes were tied to her wrists and ankles and she had a charmed piece of cloth keeping her mouth shut. She couldn’t do anything but glare at the other her who was looking through the fancy clothes in the wardrobe.
“Good girl. Now what to wear to cover the Tri-wizard Tournament?” She said, ignoring the glaring hostage. “Don’t worry, Rita. I’ll, of course, make you look fabulous. I don’t think I ever mentioned it, but I always was a big fan of yours! We have a similar style when it comes to the truth. We both make our own!!” The Rita searching through the outfits said with a far too cheerful smile and an occasional sip from the flask..
The Rita tied to the bed grimaced, not liking the comparison, but she couldn’t do anything except watch the fashion show that followed ...
