"Oh...my...GODS!" was breathed in awe as they left the stairs, entering a huge room. Once again the walls of the room were colorfully decorated. and directly across from the sarcophagus was a beautiful mural of Alexandros and his chosen First Consort, Marcus.
The mural depicted them standing side by side, dressed in their best robes, both smiling down on the crowds of people. "Yes, stunning aren't they?" Roark smiled at Serina. "I think even their Holographs did not do them justice. I can't wait to get into the books I brought back with me."
"But I don't understand. If he had a wife...and he loved her, why did he have a First Consort?"
"Because while he may have loved her, she was not his true intended soul mate. Marcus was his perfect match, and he--"
"Roark?" came his grandfather's call. "Can you come look at this?"
"Coming, grandfather," he called, touching Serina's hand before moving across the room to where the sarcophagus sat on a four-step raised platform. Like the walls, it was covered with ancient Kobolian writings. "Have you found something?" he asked, squatting at his side.
"You tell me. While I can read a few words here and there, I can nowhere read this as you can."
Roark smiled as he reached out to run his fingers over the writings, the flames of the torches dancing over the semi-precious stones of his rings. "This tells of the building of the ships, the embarkation...the leaving of Kobol by the other Lords, taking with them the peoples of Kobol."
He stood, and moved to the side, squatting once again to study what covered to stone. "Here. This tells of the return of the Thirteenth Lord...his telling of their journey to Alexandros. He tells him of the finding of the Colonies...that there had only been twelve planets. Here...he tells of his decision to go on...to take his people and search for a mythical place they had only heard of in their ancient writing...Earth."
He moved again. "The original World." His fingers moved over the writing as he translated what was written there. "The Home World. Where all life began. This speaks of the place they called Atlantis...of its destruction..." he moved around to the final side, and began to read.
"You truly are an amazing young man, Roark Christopher Peverell Potter," came the voice that froze all of them for a few microns.
When he moved off the stairs into the room...stepping into view...Roark was on his feet, snarling furiously, "Baltar!"
"Now, now. Just calm --"
"You dare!" he snarled, moving around the sarcophagus, his silver eyes burning with rage as he looked at the man who had brought about the destruction of all they knew. All they loved. "You dare to come before us--" a hand settled on his shoulder, but he didn't react to it.
He was completely focused on Baltar. "DAMN!" came another voice, as a bright fireball was thrown, only to be extinguished by a wave of water just as it touched him. "Singed again, Baltar?" came in amusement. "And wet now too."
"HARRY!" he was moving then.
"Whoa, little brother, easy there," he said, catching his as he threw himself at him. "I'm fine, but we have--"
An explosion suddenly rocked the room, followed by two more that began to bring the walls down. Rabastan wrapped them both in his arms and took them down as large stones fell, hearing the cries from the others.
Once the room stopped shaking, a voice called out. "Everyone okay? Thorin? Jacob? Roark?"
"A bit bruised but none the worse for wear. Apollo? Serina?"
They came up covered in stone dust and coughing. "We're fine, Father," he answered, looking over to where his nephews and Rabastan had been. He was relieved to see the three of them getting to their feet as Rodolphus and Evan moved to check on their husband.
"Help me!" came the whine from the man they all hated with a passion.
Baltar had not been as lucky as the rest of them. While none of the huge blocks had fallen directly on him, he WAS trapped under them, one resting on his legs.
"Just leave him." Roark glared at him as he brushed aside Rodolphus and Evan's hands. "I'm fine," he told them.
"We can't do that, Rory," his cousin said. "He needs to stand trial for what he did. If we can free him..." he moved, climbing over several blocks, "Uncle Roark? Uncle Thorin?"
They both moved to try to help him free the man, while Adama looked at the sarcophagus, and saw the side containing the writing of the Thirteenth Lord's beginning journey had crumbled to dust. They heard several more distant explosions, making them raise their heads.
"We have to get out of here before those fighters swing back this way. Another hit and all the walls will come down, burying all of us. Roark? Thorin? Roark?"
They all shook their heads as they stopped trying to raise the block covering Baltar's legs. "You can't leave me here!"
"As they can't move that block, let this be the tomb you rott in," he said as he turned and began to climb the stairs, the others following him, all of them ignoring the calls and threats of the trapped man they left behind.
