Chapter 26
Beta'd by the amazing Tenchi. Thanks, Tenchi, you're the best!
Looking out Dudley's front window, Harry grinned at the falling snow. It was Christmas Eve and it was snowing so it meant that they were going to have a white Christmas this year, something that made him happy for some unknown reason. Sipping at his soda, he then sat the can down on the coffee table and leaned back. Charlie was already here as was Lucius, of course. They were just waiting on Draco, his family, Andromeda and Teddy to show up to begin their celebration.
Tuning back into the conversation as Dudley was telling Lucius about the toy they got Scorpius, Harry nodded then added when his cousin finished, “We didn't know what to get him and didn't want to load him up on sweets so we thought this was a good one because of what it is. It's one of the bad guys in the show, but he doesn't know that. I charmed it so he won't have problems making it transform and put spells on it so the plastic won't melt from the magic. We didn't think Draco would object.”“That should be fine,” Lucius told both of them with a reassuring wave of his hand. As he had seen the Transformers movie by now, he knew what they were talking about. “I think Scorpius will like it as its unusual and not something he would have encountered before.”“Yeah, we figured he had about every toy possible and didn't know what else to get him, so we went with this. Teddy was easy as Andromeda always gives me suggestions about what he wants,” Harry chuckled.“He will like anything you get for him,” Lucius assured the two with a firm nod. Smirking, he said, “And, yes, his nursery looks like a toy store as he has everything under the sun.”Pleased with that, Dudley nodded. Looking around, he asked, “Okay, what are the plans for tomorrow then? I want to make sure I have this down.”“I'm snagging you first thing in the morning and we're going over to Molly and Arthur's. We'll have lunch there. After that, we're going to Malfoy Manor. We're going to have dinner there. By that point, we shouldn't be able to move and will want to pass out, so we're calling it a night,” Harry grinned at his cousin.“We should, yes! And will probably have to roll into the house from being stuffed.” Dudley laughed. As things hadn't gone well with his parents in repairing what was done, he was going to stay away this Christmas, despite how much it hurt to do so. No, he was standing firm here. If they couldn't handle it, it was their problem to deal with, not his. He fully and completely planned to have a good time with Harry and his friends.“Harry and I thought, mayhaps, a trip to the pitch later that night, but decided against it as the brooms would be groaning under our weight,” Lucius told him with a smirk.Chuckling, Charlie said, “They would, yeah. Not to mention I doubt we'd have the energy to do more than moan about how we ate too much.” Stopping, he looked at Lucius then added, quietly, “Mum said to offer you an invite to come over to lunch, Lucius. She promises nothing will be said to make you uncomfortable.” About a month before, Harry had finally said something to everyone about being in a relationship with the man. There were outcries over that, of course, by several, but his mother had put her foot down over it when she saw that Harry was actually happy. Once she did that, it pretty much shut everyone up, other than grumblings among themselves. No one was going to cross her over the matter, that they all knew.“Tell Molly that the offer is greatly appreciated and I mean that sincerely. However, I believe such things will wait until next year. My day is already planned out and I want to spend it with my grandson,” Lucius told him honestly, looking at the man.“Completely understandable,” Charlie told him with a smile and a nod. “I'll pass it along. However, if you get a chance, pop over for at least a cup of eggnog. Dudley and I'll love it. So will Harry.”“That I may do,” Lucius told him, crossing his legs and leaning fully back on the couch.Dudley was about to say something when the doorbell rang. Assuming it was either Draco or Andromeda, he stood to go answer it.Opening the door, seeing his parents there, Dudley's face took on a firm look. “No,” he said, shaking his head. “I'm not dealing with this tonight. No more arguing. It's Christmas Eve and I have company. I'm also expecting more. You two aren't going to ruin that.”Putting a hand on Vernon's shoulder and giving it a squeeze when her husband looked down, Petunia said, softly, “We won't cause problems. We just want to see you, nothing more.”Folding his arms over his chest, Dudley told her, “Harry and Lucius are here. I doubt they want to talk to you after that mess. So is Charlie, my boyfriend. Draco, his wife and son are coming. So is Andromeda and Harry's godson. I don't want problems! We want to have fun and enjoy ourselves, Mum! We've planned this for a long time and don't want it ruined by arguing.”Looking to his wife then his son, Vernon said, tone lacking his usual bluster, “We won't, Dudley.”Sighing, Dudley looked at them then said, “Alright, you can come in. One hint of the crap and I'm tossing you out. We're exchanging presents tonight with everyone as we'll all be busy tomorrow.”“We won't, we promise,” Petunia told her son firmly.Stepping aside, Dudley motioned for them to come in then went to warn everyone who was coming.Glancing up from explaining what was going on when his mother pushed his father in, Dudley sighed, “They promised no fighting.” When he saw them nod, he introduced them to Charlie, who nodded to them warily.Smiling at the man that Dudley introduced as his boyfriend, Petunia took a seat by her husband and took a glass of eggnog from her son. Sipping it, she asked, “So, where did you and Charlie meet, Dudley?”“Though Harry. He's the second oldest of the Weasley boys. We just hadn't encountered each other much as he worked out of the country,” Dudley explained, sitting back down by Charlie.“Oh, what is it you do?” Vernon asked, sipping at his drink. This was still uncomfortable for him as it was a man, but he was trying to work with it.“I work on one of the dragon reserves with the dragons,” Charlie told him honestly. “I've transferred to the one in Wales now, so I'm in the country all the time.”“Yeah, it's brilliant, too,” Dudley grinned, nudging Charlie who chuckled. “He took me out there a couple weeks ago. It's amazing. They are bloody huge and scary, but interesting.”“It's a dangerous job, but I like it. Dragons are fascinating creatures,” Charlie chuckled, looking at Dudley. Looking at Harry, he then grinned, “Ask Harry. He not only had to get an egg from one of them, but got to ride one.”“I say psychotic beasts, thank you very much, Charlie,” Harry laughed, leaning against Lucius. “I never want to see another one as long as I live after that ride on the one.”“I forgot about that ride,” Lucius smirked. “I can't see where that would have been pleasant.”“It wasn't and I don't want to do it again,” Harry said with a firm shake of his head. “A hippogriff either. No chance. Will stick to the broom there.”Laughing, Charlie said, “You have no idea how jealous most of us were over that dragon ride, Harry. We would get incinerated if we even tried that.”“I would have let any of you take my place there, gladly,” Harry told him with a grin.Smiling at the conversation, Petunia looked at her son, then said, softly, “Dudley, we'd like you to come over tomorrow morning and bring Charlie. I know there are problems, but we'd like you to spend some time on Christmas morning with us. We're going to Marge's for dinner, but just a couple hours.”Looking at Charlie, who gave a bare nod, Dudley sighed then nodded himself. “Alright, Mum. Just no problems, alright? We want to have fun tomorrow and have all kinds of plans.”“No problems, we promise,” Vernon said with a firm nod. Looking at his nephew, he offered, tone soft, “You too, Harry. We'd like you to come over.”Shaking his head, Harry said, “No. Sorry. That I won't do. I have enough problems right now that the stress from that isn't something I need.”Looking at her nephew, Petunia asked, gently, “Please, Harry? Just for an hour? No more than that. You can bring Lucius along if you like.”“Lucius is going to be with his family tomorrow,” Harry explained. “Not this time, no. I can't right now. I'm getting back to a good place and don't want to deal with this.”Seeing the two about to argue with Harry, Lucius said, “He's made his choice, please leave it alone and work for some other time.” Though his voice was soft, there was enough of a bite in it to make them realize he was serious. Quietly, he added, “The only reason he agreed to attempt this was Dudley. As of now, I don't think it's wise to do this. Perhaps in the future it will be better.”Looking between Lucius, Harry and her son, who was giving her a firm look, arms folded over his chest, Petunia nodded with a sigh. “Understood. Maybe sometime soon when emotions have calmed.”“We would like to try,” Vernon added, quietly. “Sometime soon, then. Perhaps a night when Lucius is free.”“We'll see,” Harry said noncommittally.Shooting his parents a look that told them to drop it, Dudley looked at Harry and Lucius then grinned, saying, “The rest of the lot needs to show. I want to know this big surprise Harry got you and Draco, Lucius! He's not said a word to me about what it might be. And I'm dying.”Harry, over the last couple weeks had made a couple cryptic statements about a big surprise. One he knew about as he was involved. The other he didn't. In fact, he'd only mentioned it a couple times and wouldn't tell anyone what it was. “As am I,” Lucius admitted, smirking.Grinning bigger, Harry mumbled to where only Lucius could hear, “Yeah, well, Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon aren't going to be as enamored of you when they hear part of it.”Snorting at that, Lucius shook his head. “They'll live,” he muttered back, smirking, patting Harry on the shoulder.About to question Harry, Dudley rose when the doorbell rang and hurried off to answer it.When Harry heard Dudley greet Teddy with his normal refrain of 'Teddy, the man', he chuckled, grinning. Looking towards the door, he waited for his godson. Seconds after appearing, Teddy was over by him, seated on the couch, leaning against him. After his normal high-five to his godson, Harry asked, “You're not driving your grandmother nuts, are you?”“Of course he is,” Andromeda said, taking a seat over by Charlie, smiling as she accepted a cup of eggnog from Dudley.“I should ask no more than normal,” Harry said, grinning at his godson.“No more than normal,” Teddy said, grinning at Harry. “You look lots better, Harry. You still sick?”“I feel better,” Harry told him honestly, slipping his arm around the young man. “I'm still sick, but getting better.” As they didn't want to explain exactly what the problem was to Teddy or some of the younger kids, they went with the line about being sick. That worked for all of them. Looking down at his godson, who was grinning at him, he said, “You're going to get to meet your cousin soon. Don't get too rambunctious with Scorpius. He's younger than you and I don't think he's used to someone with as much energy as you have.”“I can't wait!” Teddy told him enthusiastically, hair going a purple color.Laughing at the color change, knowing that was a sign that Teddy was really excited, Harry ruffled his hair.Though startled by the hair color change, Petunia looked at the little boy seated next to her nephew and asked, quietly, “He's your godson?”Looking at his aunt, Harry nodded, “This is Teddy Lupin. He'll be eleven soon and going to Hogwarts next year.”“He is so adorable,” Petunia sighed with a smile.Hearing Teddy groan at that, Harry just grinned.Laughing, Dudley rose again to answer the ringing doorbell. “Good, he's here. Which means we get to open presents!”Nudging Harry, Teddy grinned up at him then asked, “Does that mean I got the new Firebolt I wanted?”“No chance,” Harry grinned, shaking his head. “Your grandma promised to hex me if I did that. And since she means it when she says that, you didn't. We'll talk next summer and see what we can manage.”Pouting, through grinning while he did, Teddy shook his head, “Well, alright. I'm holding you to that!”“No point in getting a broom now when you can't take it with you to school,” Andromeda told him firmly.“Harry was on the house team his first year!” Teddy protested.“I was a big exception,” Harry grinned back. “We'll talk next summer, I promise.”“I'm going to remember that!” Teddy assured him with a grin in his direction.“I know you will,” Harry laughed as Dudley ushered Draco and his family in.After Dudley introduced everyone, chuckling at little at the stunned look on Draco's face when he met Andromeda and Scorpius planted himself on his grandfather's lap, Dudley said, firmly, “Presents! Now!”Laughing, Harry said, “Pass them out, Dudley. You're not getting yours until the next to the last. Start with the kids first.”“Which means the kids need to rip into them, fast,” Dudley grinned then he and Charlie seated themselves by the tree and began to pass them out.“I somehow don't see that as a problem,” Draco chuckled, shaking his head. Though he was stunned by how much Andromeda looked like his mother, he was pleased with this. Teddy was already talking to Scorpius and his son was responding. That was good and something he liked. It would mean his son would have a relationship of some kind with one of the few remaining family members on his side of the family tree.“Oh, we're going to watch paper fly,” Andromeda sighed, with a smile.
Sitting there, watching Scorpius play with the Scorponok Transformer while Teddy showed him now to make it transform, Harry grinned. The toy was a big hit because of the scorpion form. Feeling Draco nudge him, he leaned over and waited.
Watching his son enamored by the Muggle toy that was charmed, Draco whispered, “That was a good choice, Potter. He likes it.”“We thought he might because of what it is. It's one of the bad guys in the show, something he doesn't know, but he can have fun with it and make up games to play. We didn't know what to get him. Teddy liked the Transformers when he was that age, so we thought this might work.”“It does,” Draco said with a grin, watching his son enthusiastically play with the toy, grinning and bouncing in place.“Lucius has the charms for it so if they start to die, you can reapply them,” Harry told him quietly.“Good,” Draco said, but was interrupted by Dudley.“Enough chatter, presents!” Dudley said, grinning.Laughing, Harry said, “Charlie has yours, so it's not under the tree. You're just going to have to wait for it, Dudley!”“And that is not fair, Harry!” Dudley told him though grinning as he did. “You promised me big and impressive. I'm holding you lot to that,” he said as he passed some smaller gifts to Andromeda, Astoria and Draco.“You will love it,” Lucius assured him with a smirk, leaning back and sipping his drink.Harrumphing, though grinning, he grabbed the next package, one that had been hidden far behind the tree and pulled it out, laughing. Looking at the shape, he snickered, “And I wonder what this is?”Eying the broom-shaped package, Andromeda glared at Harry and said, “You said you didn't get him one!”“I didn't!” Harry assured her, looking at it.Looking smug, Lucius said, “He didn't.” Then watched as Dudley passed it to Harry.Shaking his head, grinning, Harry opened it then grinned bigger when he saw a two person broom. Snickering, he nudged Lucius and said, “Thanks. I'm gathering you think this will be better for your poor decrepit heart and will keep your safer.”Swatting Harry on the back of the head playfully at that comment, Lucius said, “Yes, it will be. Yours is fine, obviously, but this gives me a better chance to hang on and not get my feet entangled with yours. Besides, as good as the other teams are getting at playing, we need a better broom for this to give us an advantage.”“We do,” Harry agreed with a grin, nodding. Quietly, he added, looking at Lucius, “Thanks, I appreciate it.”“We're still gonna whoop on you, Lucius,” Dudley grinned, passing his present to Charlie over.“We now have a better chance,” Lucius assured him with a smirk.Knowing Charlie's was the last, Harry said, looking at the redhead as he opened it, “Give Dudley his now. We'll wait on mine to Lucius and Draco for when he's done.”Grinning at what Dudley got him, a new fireproof balaclava, Charlie pulled out as small box then handed it over. “When you get it out, we're going to have to enlarge it.”Enthused, Dudley ripped into the small package then pulled out a miniature Tardis. Looking bewildered, he glanced between all of them and waited, wondering what it was when he saw the big grins on Charlie, Harry, Lucius and Draco's faces.Motioning Dudley back, Charlie tapped it with his wand and it grew to a full-sized Tardis. Settling back, he waited.“Tardis!” Dudley exclaimed with a grin as he stood up. “A regular sized one.” Hugging it, he then plastered his back to it, arms extended. “You got me a Tardis!”Laughing, Harry said, “Open it. It's from all four of us. We pooled our money to get it.”Gibbering, a grin on his face, Dudley opened the door on the front and actually squealed. “The DVDs! All of them!”“The entire collection,” Lucius told him with a smirk and a nod.Dancing in place, Dudley was exclaiming loudly as he looked through them.Smiling at her son's reaction, Petunia looked to Vernon, who was smiling as well, then around to the grinning faces, “That is a wonderful present.”“It's something he wanted so we got our hands on one,” Harry said softly, smiling.Looking from his animated son, then around, Vernon said, quietly, “That was very thoughtful. I haven't seen him this enthused by something in a long time.”“We know he likes Dr. Who and decided he needed something like this,” Lucius explained, smiling at Dudley's enthusiasm.Still grinning from ear to ear, Dudley stepped away from the Tardis saying, “I think you lot are going to have to help me move this somewhere.” Shaking his head, he grabbed the last two presents and handed one to Draco and one to Lucius then said, grinning still, “Harry says this is big, so I can't wait to see it!”Taking his Lucius unwrapped it then arched an eyebrow as he pulled out a pair of one piece adult pajamas with the feet in them. Looking at the dancing hippogriffs in blue pajamas cavorting across them, he looked at Harry, an eyebrow arched.Snickering at the look on Lucius face and the horrified sound from Draco when he pulled out a similar pair with dancing dragons on them, Harry said, voice uneven, “I thought you could wear those at night when we sit on the balcony, Lucius. They'll keep you warm. And I thought Astoria might find them enticing.”“Potter, these are hideous!” Draco said, shaking his head, not sure what to think of them.“I concur with Draco,” Lucius nodded, eying the horrific pajamas.Hearing Dudley die laughing and snickers from Charlie, Harry clutched his sides, trying not to laugh. “They tell me they are popular,” he managed to stammer out.“I don't care, they are horrific,” Draco said, looking at Potter, wide-eyed.Eyebrow arched, looking at Harry, Lucius waited, sure there was more to this. However, he said, “There is no power on earth that will get me into those nightmares.”Grinning, looking at Dudley, who was doubled over laughing and Charlie who was still snickering, shaking his head, grinning from ear to ear, he said, voice uneven, “Look in the pocket.”Still eying Harry, Lucius found the pocket and pulled out a small envelope. Shaking his head, he opened it then began to read, eyes widening as he did.Stammering as he read, Draco began to tremble then looked at Potter, not sure what to say.Quietly, Harry said, “I still have some pull at the Ministry. Especially now since I've turned in my resignation and they want me to stick around to do something else. I went to the parole board and managed to get this. You still have to see Dr. Netherwood until he clears you, but you're off parole, both of you.”Trembling himself, Lucius looked at Harry, not sure what to say.Looking at Lucius, Harry said, “Neither of you are a danger and won't do it again. I know that. They need to worry about the ones that are. I didn't think it was fair to put you both through this still when you've changed. I thought this would be a good present. Merry Christmas.”“Thank you, Potter,” Draco said, tone uneven as he passed the official notice for the end of his parole to his tearful wife.“Nothing to thank me for. Just don't make me hex you for doing something foolish again,” Harry said, looking at him.Staring at the notice, Lucius lifted his eyes and looked at the younger man and said, softly, “We won't. You have my promise.”Smiling, Harry nodded, “I know. Besides, you live with me, so it's not like I can't keep an eye on you.”Not sure what to do, Lucius looked at him, then reached out and put a hand on his head, rubbing it. Quietly, he said, “Thank you.”Smiling, Harry said, “Merry Christmas.”
“Harry, that was wonderful,” Dudley said softly, leaning against Charlie as he sat down, ignoring the confused look from his parents.Shaking his head, Harry said, “It's the least I could do for the help they've given me.” Grinning a little, he added, “Besides, it saves on paperwork for me if I don't have to sign off on it each month for Draco.”“There is that,” Lucius said softly, not sure what to say other than that.
Watching the snow come down heavier as he listened to the bells chime softly from somewhere in the city as it turned into Christmas, Harry leaned against Lucius as the two of them sat on Harry's balcony. Smiling a little, Harry said, softly, “Merry Christmas, Lucius.”
“Merry Christmas, Harry,” Lucius responded, leaning against the young man. Slipping his arm around Harry, Lucius said, “I think, maybe, when you get to Malfoy Manor tomorrow, there might be a present there for you as well.”Grinning, Harry said, “I think there is one from me to you as well. Draco has it and promised to give it to you when you open the rest of yours.”“Just so it's not more hideous pajamas,” Lucius chuckled.“I couldn't resist that,” Harry grinned, leaning against him. “It was too funny not to do.”“I can see the humor in it, yes,” Lucius admitted, smirking. “Just so you don't insist I wear them.”“No, I won't. I don't want to have to change my pants from wetting them after laughing too hard,” Harry grinned, looking at him.Giving Harry a squeeze, Lucius said, “Good. There are no powers of persuasion from anyone that could get me into those things.” Stopping, he looked at Harry then said, quietly, “Let's go to bed. We have a long day tomorrow.”“We do,” Harry nodded, standing. “You going to show at the Weasley's for a cup of eggnog? That would be perfect to tell them about our plan.”Finishing the last of his drink, Lucius nodded then stood, “I will. It's perfect. We'll tell them then get with Draco on the matter. After the first of the year, we'll get the license then everyone will be working on the stadium, so we have to tell them before that.”“This is great,” Harry grinned, stretching. “I get to do something I love, flying, and make money off it. Hopefully, anyway.”“I'm sure you will. If someone like Astoria likes to play the game, others will as well,” Lucius said, then began to guide Harry towards the room. “There is just much to work out is all.”
