After taking a drink of his coffee, Sirius rubbed his eyes in a tired way then blinked rapidly. He was trying to get himself awake and started as Fred and George would be over shortly to help kick off the heavy-duty cleaning. Downing the rest of his cup and refilling it before picking up his fork, he asked the with-it Remus, “What's the plan with this? Do you know?”
“Bill is bringing the twins over before he goes to work,” Remus explained, sipping at his tea. “Then he'll pick them up after he's off. That way we have plenty of time to do what we need. I thought we should start with the room that has the tapestry. It seems to have the most junk in it. We both know most of what's in there, if not all, needs to go. So, it should be an easy place to start.”Nodding as he chewed, Sirius then swallowed and said, “Good plan. We'll see if we can get that damned tapestry down while we work in there. If we can't, Snape will be over at some point and can give it a shot.”Leaning heavily against Sirius, Harry yawned then sipped at his juice. Shaking his head, he blinked rapidly, trying to get himself fully awake. From what Sirius and Remus said, they were going to take the first steps in negotiating with the twins on selling the map and a few other things they had. Not to mention putting out feelers if they would be interested in something like Elliot. So, he needed to be alert for this. That just wasn't easy as he was still tired.Giving Harry a clap on the back, Sirius was about to say something when he heard people come in. Looking at the door he waited, wanting to make sure who it was before he went back to eating. Seeing Bill usher the twins in, he nodded then began to dig in once more. Good. That meant they could kick things off when they finished breakfast.Grabbing a cup of coffee for himself, Bill sat down by Remus, while the twins made themselves comfortable by Harry, one beside him and the other seated across from him. After a bracing sip, he put the cup down on the table and held it before looking between the three there. Quietly, he said, “Mum wants me to pass along that she's sorry about what happened in the Alley. She's going to tell you herself the next time she comes over, of course. We should have kept a better eye on those two.”Nodding to that, Sirius said, quietly, though tone firm, “She should have, yes. We were counting on her to do that.”“It won't happen again,” Bill assured him. “If Harry goes somewhere with us, Ron, Hermione and Ginny aren't going to be allowed to tag along. Mum's made that very clear to them. I can guarantee you that she's angry over what happened. While Ginny wasn't involved this time, we know she tends to collude with those two and help, so she won't be either. Ron and Hermione have been assigned to de-gnoming the garden and doing some other unsavory tasks for the next week. They also won't be allowed to come over here for a time. If there's something that comes up and we all have to come over for a meeting, they have to stay home unless it's an emergency of some kind. She and dad, both, gave them a stern lecture on staying away from Harry and to stop digging into what's going on. She'll explain it all more, or dad will, the next time they see you. Plus, they plan to apologize to Harry over it.”“Understood,” Sirius said after seeing Harry nod. “I'll talk to them when they come over next, but if those two try again, or Ginny does, it's me they'll deal with, then won't ever be allowed in this house again. I mean it, Bill. You can pass that along from me. We're not playing.”“I don't blame you a bit,” Bill told him firmly with a nod. “And I'll pass it along. We all hope that this got the point across, though aren't counting on it as the two seem insistent in trying to get back in Harry's good graces. We're trying our best, Sirius. You know what some are like, though.”“I do,” Sirius conceded with a nod and sigh. “We'll press on from here.”Finishing his coffee, Bill nodded. “Alright, I'm heading to work. I'll pick Fred and George up when I get off.” Seeing nods from everyone, he sent his cup to the sink then stood and left.Digging into his breakfast, Sirius could see the twins shifting around and looking intently between him and Remus. Chuckling, Sirius nudged Harry then said to the two, “When Harry and I finish eating, Remus and I have a proposition for you two.”Looking intently at Sirius, Fred then glanced at his brother and asked, looking back at the man, “What kind?”“It involves a certain map you gave Harry,” Remus said softly, sipping his tea, smiling a little.“And, maybe, a few other things,” Sirius grinned, listening to Harry chuckle as his godson ate.Eyes wide, the twins looked at each other, then glanced at the two at the end of the table before looking at each other again. Quietly, George asked, “What about the map?”“Oh, not much,” Sirius said, trying not to grin as he ate. “We were just curious if you would be interested in buying something akin to a template of it. I mean, after all, we're two of the people that helped make it so we know how to recreate it.”Alright, for Fred and George that was almost a dream come true. Grinning at each other, Fred told them firmly, “We would be most interested in that!”Lowering his voice, almost as though he was afraid someone else might be in the house and overhear them, George asked, “You two were really the Marauders?”“Two of them,” Remus told him, smile growing.“James is the only other one that matters anymore,” Sirius said, grinning a little himself. Nudging the grinning Harry, who was paying close attention while he ate, he added, “Harry is the second generation of the Marauders, so we count him as one.”An almost starry-eyed look on their faces, the twins glanced at each other, then looked back at the other three. Clearing his throat, Fred said, “Your map helped us tremendously to do what we've done!”“The aid it gave us in so many ways is almost immeasurable,” George added, nodding vigorously.Chuckling at that, Sirius sent his now empty plate to the sink. “Yes, it was a big help for us until Filch got his hands on it when we were in school.”Putting his beaker down, Remus folded his hands on the table and said, “We're willing to work something out with it and sell you the template. There are caveats, of course, as you would expect. And we're not going to make it easy on you. What we're going to do, however, will aid you in making it fit more than just Hogwarts.”Seeing vigorous nods from the two, Sirius downed some more coffee then said, “We want you to know that there is a teacher that's aware of it and has a copy. Snape.” Seeing a wide-eyed, almost fearful look from the two as they exchanged glances, Sirius shook his head then told them, “That's because Remus and I don't want to get hexed into the next century for giving you what we are. Harry showed it to him while at school and the two used it for legitimate reasons to help with more than one matter, so we have no quarrel with him knowing about it. As he does, we had to negotiate a peace treaty with him. That included giving him a copy. We want you to know that.”“We can work with that and will be cautious at school,” Fred told him with a solemn nod.“Alright, I'll let Remus lay out how we want to do this then we'll work from there,” Sirius said, gesturing to his old cohort.Launching in, Remus went through how they wanted to go about this and what they wanted out of it.
Finishing up on the map negotiations, something Remus and Sirius were pleased with as they worked out a lump sum, once the two had the shop up and going, plus a percentage of each one sold. They then pressed on. With that, the two were going to give the twins an assist with several troublesome areas and help them get needed supplies if they could manage. For that, they would get a consulting fee. Sirius also wasn't going to say anything if they snagged anything in the house they thought they could use. Doxie eggs were something the two needed to get their hands on for something. That didn't trouble any of them.
When they finished that chunk, Sirius looked at Harry and grinned. Seeing his godson grin back, he pressed on. “We have something else you might be interested in. With it, I'm going to state we are just in the startup stage with it. We are planning to work on it in the guise of a Charms assignment for Harry. This one will be a little odd as we won't do anything about selling it until we're damned sure that we can recreate it. And, when finished, we'll have to work on a way to sell it. Something like the map, of course. In this case, though, there are four of us working on it. Me, Remus, Harry and Snape.”“Snape is helping?” George asked, incredulous, looking at Fred, who appeared equally stunned.“He is,” Remus told them with a firm nod.“That's odd,” Fred said, shaking his head. Looking at his brother again, he then asked, “What is it?”“Harry, if you would, show them Elliot,” Remus said with a smile, waiting, fingers tapping on the table.Pulling Elliot out of his pocket and enlarging him, Harry set the dragon on the table and let him roam, grinning.Reaching out to pet the dragon, getting a raspberry blown in his direction after the dragon bit him once more, Sirius grinned, “Meet Elliot. He was a gift to Harry. And none of us have seen a stuffed animal, no matter how complex the charms on him, act like Elliot.”Watching the dragon roar at everyone and blow smoke then fly up and curl around Harry's neck, George asked, “What can he do?”“Basically, Elliot acts like a real dragon, though he's stuffed. In fact, just the other day, someone we showed him to thought he was real. He is supposed to act like a standard stuffed animal you can buy anywhere, but the charms on him have mutated in some way and you get a realistic behavior from him.” Before the two could ask, he held up his hand then said, “Let's demonstrate so you can get a better feel for what he does.” Summoning the box they put some of the basically charmed dragons in, Remus pulled them out when they landed on the table then set them to moving. Smiling as he saw Elliot going on full alert, tail lashing, smoke curling from his nostrils. “Watch and judge for yourself. Keep in mind, this is just one of the things he's capable of.”Grinning as Elliot went on another massacre, something that had Fred and George wide-eyed, Sirius chuckled when the dragon finished and flew back up to perch on Harry's shoulder. Helping Remus and Harry put the stuffed animals back together then in the box, he said, “That's a sampling of how realistic he can act. His behavior in plenty of areas is just as real. The only one he likes is Harry. The rest of us? He hates us and bites.” Grinning bigger, he asked, “Interested?”Eyes wide, glancing at his brother then to the dragon, Fred nodded vigorously, “We want him! We'll buy the template and set it up like the map!”Pleased with that, Remus smiled. He added, however, “Keep in mind, he's one we're still working on. We have the basic charms that came on him and will get those on then press forward to see what we can manage from there. It's just going to take us time to get it right. And, if we do, you can create something besides dragons. I bet that'll sell good.”“It will,” George told him with a firm nod. “And we'll be happy to buy the template!” Looking between the other three, then glancing at his brother, he asked, “How many things like this and the map do you have? Or know how to do?”Grinning from ear to ear, Sirius told him, nudging Harry, “Oh, you have no idea! Trust me, we were bigger problem children in school than you are!”“We are definitely going to have to talk more when we get set up somewhere and get ready to open,” Fred said firmly as his brother nodded.“We can do that too,” Remus smiled as he sipped his tea.
Standing in the room with the tapestry after lunch, Fred, George and Harry were watching Remus and Sirius trying to get the thing down using the spells Bill suggested. So far, it wasn't working and it wouldn't budge. They weren't done, though, so the rest was going to wait until they ran through what they knew and Bill had suggested. That was fine with the three of them. They had been busy all morning with plenty of things. Mostly, it was getting rid of pests in the furnishings and curtains. There were a few other basic things too. Once Sirius and Remus were done, they would press on to some of the crap stored in here. From what they knew, almost all of it was getting thrown out as it was either dangerous or Sirius just didn't want it. That was fine too, as it made their job easier.
After a glance at his brother over Harry's head, Fred looked down at Harry then said, keeping his voice low, “We just wanted to say, Harry, that if you need to talk about anything, we're more than willing to listen. And we won't say a word about any of it.”“We don't know just what's going on, and don't want to poke to find out, but we figure it's big. So, if you need to, let us know. You know us; we won't say a word. It stays between the three of us.” George added softly.“It's appreciated,” Harry said with a little smile and a nod as he knew the two were serious about that and would keep their word. “For now, I'm good, though.”“Just keep the offer in mind,” Fred told him firmly.“We mean it,” Fred added.“We're going to make sure to write over the year, too.” George told him.“Yeah, we will. We'll keep you filled in on what's going on at the castle,” Fred added.“We'll get with Neville and Luna too,” George pressed on.“Won't tell them what's up, obviously, but to write,” Fred told him with a nod.“I'd like that,” Harry told them seriously.“We'll make sure,” George told him firmly. “There was also something else we thought you should know about.”“It's not pressing, mind you, but you haven't noticed and we thought you needed to know, what with the mess with the other three,” Fred pressed on.“What's that?” Harry asked, glancing between the two, figuring they meant the mess with Hermione, Ron and Ginny.“It's about Ginny,” George sighed, shaking his head.Grinning and taking a sip of his butterbeer, Harry chuckled, “You mean her crush on me?”“That's our Harry!” George said, throwing an arm around Harry's shoulder.Adding his arm to his brother's around Harry's shoulders, Fred added, “We were wondering if you noticed.”“I did. I was just ignoring it was all, hoping it would go away,” Harry snickered, shaking his head. “No offense, but she's not my type. I just didn't want to hurt her feelings.”“Understandable,” George said with a vigorous nod.“That's no win there, we get that,” Fred added.Glancing at his brother, seeing a raised eyebrow, George asked, “Are you interested in girls? I mean, you don't notice them much.”“Doesn't matter to us, of course. You know that, Harry.” Fred added.“And we won't ever say a word to anyone,” both said together.Thinking that over and wondering what to say, Harry decided to give it up. After all, the two were always honest with him and kept their words, so he was safe. “I like them fine,” he said softly. “I just like the blokes more.”“Works for us,” George grinned, clapping him on the shoulder.“And it means you have a better chance at getting dates than most do,” Fred laughed.“Lee would be dying if he knew,” George chuckled. “He likes the lads.”“And has had a sizable crush on you for a year or so now,” a grinning Fred added.“We won't even talk about Wood,” George added, grinning himself.“If he had known, he would have laid claim to you long ago,” Fred told him with a nudge.Grinning himself, Harry shook his head. “Wasn't about to chance saying anything in school to anyone, what with all that went on, you know.”“We get that completely,” George assured him.“Just, if you ever need help approaching someone, let us know. We'll lend a hand,” Fred told him.“I'm good there, don't worry about it,” Harry smiled, glancing at Sirius.“There's someone, isn't there?” George asked, grinning bigger.“One we didn't know about!” Fred added, grinning himself.“There have been several over the years,” Harry admitted with a chuckle. “Yeah, there's someone steady now though.”“Good!” Fred nodded vigorously.“And you definitely were sneaky! Because no one knew anything about anyone!” George said.“With as gossip-y as some in our house are,” Fred started.“That's a feat and a half to sneak it under their notice,” George ended.“You're good,” they both said together, grinning.Snorting at that, grinning himself, Harry told them, “I made sure I was. I didn't want that out and wasn't about to take the chance by doing anything with anyone that might talk. So, I was really sneaky about it.”“Just so you know,” Fred started.“If whoever this is acts the fool,” George pressed on.“They deal with us,” the two finished with a firm nod.“We're good there. They aren't going to,” Harry assured them, grinning internally at the thought of the two trying to take on Lucius and Sirius. He appreciated that someone was looking out for him, though. That was something he didn't get much and liked it.
Listening in to the quiet conversation going on behind them, Sirius couldn't help but grin at what he heard. Of all the rottenness that went on, this was one of the few very positive things that continued on with Harry. And he liked it. It also shored up what Harry talked about with the twins and why he was willing to let them close when he cut almost everyone else loose. Shoulders shaking at the last part, about the twins taking on anyone that hurt Harry, he couldn't help but grin bigger. Though the visions of the two even trying with him and Lucius were a riot, he loved what was said. It was perfect. And he wanted to make damned sure the two were around his godson more.
Stepping back after trying the last of what Bill suggested without any effect at all, he glanced at Remus. Though the man was staring at the tapestry, he was smiling too. That told him his old friend had been concentrating on the conversation as well. Yeah, the two were definitely in all their good graces for the foreseeable future! Shaking his head, he said, making sure the three teens heard him, “Alright, that didn't work. Which means that we get Snape to look at it the next time he's over. So, let's press on and get rid of some of the shite.” Hearing the three answer, he nodded then turned around, planning to get rid of as much junk as they could before the day was out.
Perched on the arm of the settee, Harry sighed softly as he sipped his butterbeer. Bill was leaving with the twins at the moment. Sirius and Remus were seeing them off. Once that was done, the three of them were going to finish up what they were doing then knock off for the night. From his perspective, they had actually accomplished quite a bit. This room was mostly done, other than a cabinet. Sirius was just going to bin everything in that. Then, late that night, he would have the new elves get rid of the furnishings and such, replacing them with something nicer. The same with the curtains and carpet. That meant that the following day they would press on to another room. Good! If this rate kept up, they'd get it all done before the start of term.
Polishing off his butterbeer and tossing the empty in one of the bins, Harry's head came up when he heard some familiar mutterings. Sighing, he shook his head when Kreacher came in. He'd had a couple encounters with the elf up to now and knew he was deranged, so he wasn't sure what to do. He figured that whatever was coming would stop quickly as Sirius would be right back.Watching as the old elf came in, staying quiet, he observed as Kreacher began to rummage around in one of the bins, obviously looking for something. So far, the elf hadn't seen him, or at least didn't act like it, and he wanted it to stay that way.Apparently not finding what he was looking for in the bins, the elf then moved on to the cabinet that they were about to empty. However, as the elf opened it and reached for some kind of object, Harry's eyes widened at what he was seeing. Up and off the arm of the chair, he hurried over to the elf and yanked him back before he could grab hold of the thing. “Don't touch that! It can hurt you!” Harry told the elf. Stepping back, eyes locked on the object, he shouted for Sirius.Looking at the half-blood that had hold of him, Kreacher was trying to wiggle loose, but the brat had ahold of him tightly. “Kreacher needs Master Regulus' locket!” He finally huffed.“It's dangerous,” Harry told the elf, eyes wide as Sirius came rushing in. Shaking his head as he looked at his godfather, he didn't know what to say.“What's going on?” Sirius asked, looking at Harry and the elf he had ahold of. He assumed Kreacher was causing problems again and he would have to deal with it. Seeing Remus step into the room, he waited.Glancing at that—thing in the cabinet then to his godfather, Harry said, voice uneven, “You know how I can see people's magic?” Seeing Sirius and Remus nod, he pressed on, “We'll, I'm seeing magic on something in that cabinet. Which tells me that it's part of a person, at least in some way.”Brow furrowed and confused, Sirius looked at Remus, who had a similar expression on his face. Stepping up to the cabinet, Sirius asked, “What object is it?”Point his chin at the cabinet, Harry then said, “The locket.” Glancing between the two, he lowered his voice and added, tone quivering slightly, “I've only seen magic that black on one person in my life. You can guess who that is.”Eyes wide, Sirius glanced at the equally stunned Remus. “You-Know-Who?” He asked, tone hushed.Nodding vigorously, Harry glanced between the two, still holding onto the elf.Levitating the object in question out, Sirius left it suspended in mid-air, skin crawling at the feeling he was getting off of it just being close to the thing. Shaking his head, eyes wide, he looked at Remus then said, “Go get Snape and tell him we need him. I don't know what this thing is, but I think we need to figure it out.”“We do,” Remus said firmly with a nod. “Keep it right there and don't touch it. See what you remember about it or what you can find out while I get Severus.”Nodding, Sirius looked at it, shaking his head, not recognizing it. If it had a chunk of Voldemort in it, however, they needed to figure out what the fuck was going on, that's for damned sure!
