Chapter 26:
A New Dark Lord in the Making?
“It should have worn off long ago, Severus,” Remus sighed, shaking his head as he sat at the kitchen table helping everyone pour through Potions books for a solution to the latest problem. Draco's experimentation with Verumultimum had resulted in what could only be termed a 'situation'.
It had been almost 24 hours since it blew up on him and it had yet to wear off. In fact, Draco was still going strong. At this point, he was randomly confessing to everything, blurting out things that even had Lucius infuriated with him. It seemed that whatever he had done to 'tweak' it, had resulted in some side effects that none of them knew what to do about or how to make it stop. While the initial intent of the potion, something Remus and Sirius admitted to, was to get people to talk for a couple of hours, whatever Draco had done had him not only talking, but other bits as well. After four hours of him confessing to everything under the sun, including that he liked to wear women's undies, they had Silenceo'd him in hopes that it would wear off soon. Even if it didn't, they wouldn't hear it. Wrong answer.
That had worked for a few minutes. Something, somewhere, in what he had done made the compulsion to confess go beyond what the potion intended. It seemed that when he couldn't utter it aloud, the potion forced him to keep right on going. That meant he had to get it out and resorted to writing it down. Yeah—by now they had an almost novel length confession of everything he had ever done. This wasn't pretty. At this point, he was locked in his room with Silencing charms around it. From what the elves reported, Draco was still confessing, to everything. About everyone, including his father.
Scrubbing a hand over his mouth, looking at the readings off the cauldron that Draco had used to brew the first batch, the one that blew up on him, Severus wasn’t sure what was going on. Shaking his head, he said, “It has to be the Jarvey hair. That's the only thing I can think of. It causes odd reactions. As the ferrets aren't full Jarvey, it may be making this worse.”
“Yeah, well, we need to do something,” Sirius snickered, then grinning. “We need him to shut up, for his sake and ours.” He wasn't worried so much about what Draco had to say about the past, but more what he might say about what was going on with a certain swishy Dark Lord and the situation where it involved them to anyone that might take it in their head to come over. They didn't need that getting out! Not to mention that Harry was severely traumatized by not only Draco's seemingly obsessive love of him, but the litany of sexual things that the younger Malfoy had rattled off that he wanted to do. Though Sirius knew it wasn't anything close to what the perverted Malfoy patriarch had in mind most likely, they were most certainly creative!
“Any clue what we can do or if you can come up with an antidote?” Lucius asked, scrubbing a hand through his hair after shoving aside a book he had looked through for reactions to potions mixed with Jarvey hair. This needed to cease, now. People would pay fortunes for the confession Draco had written out, as there was plenty there about himself that he didn’t want anyone knowing, some of which was decidedly illegal. That brought on his elves now over scouring Malfoy Manor for his stash of very Dark and illegal bits. Though he would miss his collection, he couldn't chance it. It was even worse when it came to the confession his son had made about himself. Some of what was there could get him not only expelled, but in trouble with the DMLE.
As they had a complete rundown of what Draco had done, Severus sighed, looking around at the stack of books then said, “Maybe. Let me try. This has to stop. Most anything in this class of potion would have worn off last night sometime. At the most, early this afternoon. Which means I have no idea when it might, if it ever will. Let me see what I can manage to come up with. Until then, he needs to stay locked away so that anyone that may come over won't get a dose of not only the confession, but figure out they can get anything out of him.”
Severus was less than pleased about this whole debacle for a myriad of reasons. The top of the list was he had to stay sober to deal with it. Staying sober meant he not only had to deal with what was bound to come when it came to the rampant insanity in the house, it also meant that he had to remember waking up, naked, in Lupin's bed and their romp. Then there was the fact that the Malfoy spawn was also including him in his confessions, something that made him want to hex the little brat. So, as he was the one with the Mastery in Potions, he was the only one that could probably figure out how to fix this. Black and Lupin had given up the original formula and what it was intended to do, so he thought he could come up with something. It was just going to take time.
“I would say take him to St. Mungos and let them sort it--” Sirius started, but was cut off by Lucius.
“No,” Lucius said firmly. Though Healers took a firm oath not to reveal plenty, what was coming out of his son's mouth was enough to assure that they would start talking. That was something none of them needed.
“No St. Mungos,” Severus agreed. “We need to sort this ourselves. Let me to go Spinners End and get everything I can locate about Jarvey hair. I should be able to come up with something once I know exactly how it can react to some of these ingredients. Eye of newt is the one I think is causing the most issues. Let me see what I can find.” Seeing nods, he stood then swept out, trying to keep his mind on the issue at hand and not the other bits that were threatening his sanity. However, he was fully and completely planning to remember much of what Draco said to use for future purposes.
All but clinging to Sirius, traumatized, Harry said, voice uneven, “I did not need to hear some of what he confessed. I'll probably have nightmares about it for years and need therapy to get over it.”
Snorting then grinning, Sirius slipped an arm around Harry, holding him close, “Think about it this way; no more than the nightmares he's going to have from saying it!”
“There is that,” Harry said with a bit of a grin.
“And we need to destroy that confession,” Lucius said firmly, thinking about everything Draco had written down.
“Oh, I don't know. It could come in quite useful,” Sirius said with an evil grin.
Glaring at Black, Lucius hissed, “I will personally vanish it!”
Snickering, Sirius glanced at Remus, who was grinning, though looking down and trying to hide it, “You might destroy it, but we're going to remember it!”
Looking dour at that, Lucius gave an internal sigh. Oh yes, they would. And now they had plenty of ammo to use against him in various ways. Not to mention they had more blackmail material against Draco than they could ever use. This wasn't good. Shaking his head, he didn't know what to do. Quietly, he said, “I know the plan was to go out and celebrate tonight by taking in a movie once more, but I don't believe that's in the offing.”
“No, it's not,” Remus said honestly. “We need this situation tended to before we think about forays out of the house. And I can't see forcing Draco to stay here, alone, while we go out and have fun. That's not only unfair, but cruel.”
Pleased that Lupin was the sort to think of his son, Lucius nodded. Then he said, “We'll partake when we get this sorted. Or find something else to do. I do agree that a celebration is in the offing.” What he didn't add was he planned to bribe everyone that heard that confession within an inch of their lives so their mouths stayed shut. Any time they looked like they may say something about it, he was going to bribe them. No, none of it needed out. Then he needed to get with Narcissa to figure out some way to work with the almost obsessive interest in Harry. With the bond there, that was not something they needed. Especially since Harry, and everyone else in the house, was now aware of it and the signals that Draco was acting on it. That wasn't good, not at all.
That—he had no idea. Honestly? Like everyone else, he thought it was just a rivalry with Harry, nothing more. Now he was realizing that Draco probably needed a firm lesson in how to go about his interest in more constructive ways that would get him somewhere, not like a young child pulling someone's braids to get it across. He had assumed that Draco knew the right and wrong way to go about expressing interest. Now he had to take on the task of schooling him in that. And making it clear that the bond was there to stay and that his son didn't want to take on Black over this continuing. He was also damned sure that if it kept going, he would have issues himself. No, it needed to cease. Now!
Looking around, trying to start the bribing, he said, “How about I send the elves out with an order to a nice little French bistro I know. They have magnificent food. We can all partake and enjoy a good spread.”
“We'll let you do that,” Sirius nodded, thinking it would probably be good as Malfoy had seriously nobby tastes. “Because I have a feeling that this is going to end up a seriously involved mess to get sorted.”
“Unfortunately, you're probably right,” Lucius sighed, reminding himself to go up and vanish that dratted confession the next time he went to check on his son. That and make sure he didn't write any more down. No, that wouldn't be good. And he certainly didn't want Narcissa to get wind of some of what Draco had pulled off over his time. She would be right furious then he would end up having a whole new kind of fun run trying to get away from an wife that would certainly blame him for some of it. Keeping Narcissa pacified and not firing spells at him was always for the best. She knew some of the nastiest hexes anyone could dream up. And he had felt plenty of them when she was irked at him. Some of what Draco confessed to would do more than irk her. That he didn't need!
While Remus and Snape were down in the lab desperately trying to come up with something to stop the still confessing Draco, Sirius, Harry and Lucius were sitting in one of the small parlors playing a Wizarding board game. Draco, as he was still confessing to everything under the sun and couldn't be around Harry without going into something sexual, was still in his room with the silencing wards as strong as they could get them.
Making a move, Sirius sighed then said, “Alright, Malfoy, I'm going to lay this out plainly.”
“What do you have in mind?” Lucius asked, curious, watching what Harry was doing so he could devise a strategy for his turn.
“We've got one troublesome bit out of the way; me getting cleared. Which means, unless we want to get drawn into the war Albus is trying to start with—well, this version of Voldemort, we need to get out of here. The man is deranged at this point and seeing plenty that isn't there. Remus and I were buying into it, until we got the reality of what your side is really like. To do that, though, we need to start making what's here work. I can only imagine how much the bond is going to start revolting if we continue on how we are.”
“This is true,” Lucius admitted with a soft sigh. “While I realize we've had this discussion before, more than once, and I've given my assurances that it will change, that hasn't happened. At this juncture, I do realize that this can't continue.” Looking at Harry, who was eying him warily, he added, softly, tone dejected, “The fact that Harry seems somewhat frightened of me is enough to tell me that this can't continue. No, we're getting nowhere.”
As the prat said, they'd heard this before. However, Sirius was slightly heartened by the fact that Lucius was, slowly, becoming aware of the effect that he was having on Harry. Himself? He could handle it. The most that would happen was he would lose his temper again. Firmly, he said, “If you could keep your damned libido on a leash and work with what we have, we might get somewhere!”
“I do realize this as well,” Lucius admitted, shaking his head. “It's a conclusion I reached myself while recovering from the Quidditch accident. That I will work on.”
“I've been thinking about it as well. I thought this; we set one goal and work towards that. And I don't mean anything sexual,” Sirius told him, making sure to emphasize that. “We leave that bit until we're sure we can handle it. There is plenty that has to come before we get there.”
“Again, I agree,” Lucius nodded. Quietly, he said, looking between the two, “I believe that a goal of getting out and finding somewhere better to relocate should be made. I think a good timetable is before the start of term. I do realize that everyone knows Harry can't go back without the two of us going with him, but it's a good aim.”
“I agree,” Sirius said, looking at Harry, who was nodding as well. “We can't reach that if we keep going like we are. The external insanity is enough, we don't need to make it worse.”
“Once more, I agree,” Lucius nodded.
“Let me ask this—what goal do you want to attain first? If you toss it out there, we'll see what we can do to work towards that.” Sirius said, figuring if they knew where the great pervert was coming from, they might be able to have an idea of what to work with or a compromise that they could come to.
Before he could think about it, Lucius admitted, “Sleeping with the two of you again.” Seeing a wide-eyed, almost fearful look from Harry and a wary one from Black, he shook his head and told them, “Nothing sexual. Just sleeping.” What he wasn't going to add was he wanted the feeling that came from waking up next to the two. That was something he liked and missed.
“Nothing sexual?” Sirius asked warily, wanting to make sure of that.
“Nothing,” Lucius told him firmly. “Something similar to the one night I joined you in bed after the incident with Buckbeak.”
“Yeah, well, if we do work with that bit, we're doing something about the snoring and drooling,” Sirius told him, glaring at him. “I'm not a damned teddy bear either! I couldn't move, Malfoy!”
Though he didn't say it aloud, Lucius thought Sirius made a most excellent teddy bear. Holding the man was something he adored. However, in the spirit of compromise so they could start moving in that direction, he said, “We'll work on those issues.”
Leaning over and conferring with Harry so that Malfoy couldn't hear, Sirius then straightened up and said, “How about this; two weeks of nothing perverse and or trying for that and we'll do one night in bed. The longer you go with nothing happening like what's been going on and you get to stay one night. Deal?” He figured that as he pressed on with Harry, getting him more comfortable with the sexual end, the more the bond was going to end up yanking them together. Which meant they needed some of this shite to stop.
Without even thinking about it, Lucius agreed, “That's something I can work towards, yes.” With that, he decided he needed to devise a way to keep himself on some sort of tether to stop what was going on. Yes, he was used to going about it this way and it had worked since he discovered sex so long ago, but it wasn't helping matters. Firm in that he now had a goal in mind, he vowed to attain it. After all, he was Lucius Malfoy and had plenty of motivation to attain what he wanted along with the self control to pursue it. It would be the same in this case as well. He just had to keep reminding himself what he would get out of it if he kept himself under control.
Lying in the bed in the room he was assigned, Draco was twitching madly. It wasn't that it was a physical problem that was causing this, it was more like mental agony. Never in his life had something he tried backfired in such a way. This was catastrophic! All he was thankful for was that, first, he didn't pull this around his mother. She would have been irate, then he would have paid. And, second, that it was confined to a select few in the house, none of whom would probably say anything to those outside the house.
Reaching up and clutching his hair in both fists, he whimpered. This was humiliating! Potter knew about the fixation and seemed horrified by it. That alone was enough to make him want to whinge for weeks. His father knew. Black knew and didn't seem real happy about it. Professor Snape knew what he had done and was apt to make his life a living hell. Lupin—he didn't know there, but he was sure there was fallout coming.
Eyes shut, he twitched more. Bloody hell, Black—the man was devious! He was a Black, after all, that was in the genes. He had made certain that Potter was cleared of everything he had ever done and that he admitted to doing it. That was bad. Really bad. And there was bound to be fallout from it. Especially back at school when Professor Snape was involved. This was horrific.
Rolling over on his side, he whimpered as another confessional streak started. This time it was about certain cross-dressing tendencies. That wasn't good. Thankfully, since most of it was about him pilfering and trying on his mother's clothes, no one was around. This he didn't want anyone to know!
Standing in the hallway, Sirius had his hand over his mouth, shoulders shaking, as Snape walked by, holding a vial of something that he and Remus had been working on to stop the never ending confessions from Draco. It wasn't that the man was doing anything, it was more like the bright red hand prints right on the arse of his robes that was setting it off. That and how Snape's hair was sticking up all over, like he had been in a windstorm of some kind. There was also the slightly shell-shocked look on his face. This was a riot! And he knew the cause. After all, he'd seen that expression on the face of plenty of Remus' conquests in the past after the man got done with them to know the signs!
Shaking his head as Remus came over to stand next to him and Harry, Sirius asked, tone uneven, eyes drifting to those red hand prints again, “Did you find something?”
Looking smug, Remus told him, “No. Severus did manage to come up with a powerful calming draught that might minimize it for now. At least we hope so. We'll see. We're still looking as he's sure that it's the Jarvey hair that caused the problems. He's going through a few books he has about potions that might counteract that interaction.”
“Between bouts of something I truly don't want to know about,” Sirius snickered, shaking his head.
“Well, yes,” Remus admitted, looking more smug. “While he's looking up potions, I'm going to attempt to find a spell that might help. I don't know how successful that will be, but we're going to try. Let's see what we can manage.” Lowering his voice, he added, “You have to admit that giving him something to focus on is better for him than the smoking or drinking.”
“That's true! Because if Albus takes it in his head to come over, Snape is in real trouble. Even Albus is going to think something is off.” Sirius said, shaking his head.
“This is true,” Remus told him seriously. “That's not something we need with all that's going on. If he does, he's apt to focus here to see what else is going on. Thankfully, his attention is elsewhere right now. We don't want him shifting that.”
Nodding to that, Sirius then lowered his voice and grinned slightly, “The bond is pulling, isn't it?”
“It is,” Remus told him with a genial smile, smoothing down his robes. Lifting his chin, he added, “On Severus' end, no less.”
Grinning bigger, Sirius chuckled, “You're joking!”
“Oh no, I'm not,” Remus told him, looking smug once more. “I'm waiting to see if it does on the other end as well. That's the one I'm not sure about. It'll be most interesting to see how that plays out!”
Laughing outright at that, Sirius shook his head then told him, “It will! One never knows, you may become Moony, the Dark Lord over it! That would be a riot!”
“It might not be a bad thing, either,” Remus admitted, thinking of all the things he could do if he could get that side motivated in the right direction. It would work quite nicely. Well, once he got some troublesome areas out of the way and certain people to where they weren't an issue.
Shoulders shaking again, Sirius said, “Yeah, that was a goal none of us ever thought you would have! It could be a right riot if it presses there.”
“And could help all of us, Sirius,” Remus told him, looking smug once again. “Like the situation with Albus.”
“Very true,” Sirius conceded. “Yeah, something needs done with the barmy old man before he pulls a stunt none of us can counter.”
“Let's see what I can manage,” Remus told him, as he pondered tagging along next time Severus was summoned. There was so much he could do and so many areas that needed tending to that it might not be a bad idea to start going with Severus. Yes, he would bring that up and see what Severus thought. Then they would go from there.
