Candidate Registration Opening
January 1 — New Year’s Day — will mark the open of registrations for persons seeking the office of Minister of Magic. All wizards and witches in good standing and of legal age may apply. Elections will be held in October with the winner taking office in November.
Wizengamot Denies Ministry Request To Certify CandidatesIn a stunning defeat for the Ministry, S.P.A.M. successfully petitioned the Wizengamot to allow any wizard or witch carrying the Dark Mark to register for candidacy if they have been acquitted or not had charges filed against them. The ruling allows a number of known Death Eaters to register as candidates for the office of Minister of Magic or one of the elected positions on the Wizengamot itself. The measure passed by an unexpected two-thirds majority.
Plantagenet Parkinson, co-founder of the organization, sent this in response to our request for feedback:
“As Lucius says, the Ministry must serve all citizens. I consider this a major step in the right direction.”

Ministry Reinstates New Year’s Eve CelebrationIn a sign that magical Britain is returning to its pre-war activities, the Ministry will hold the annual New Year’s Ball and Fireworks event that had become a 200-year tradition. Ministry celebrations were suspended after the death of Albus Dumbledore and the subsequent assassination of Rufus Scrimgour, former head of the Ministry of Magic.
As part of the festivities current Minister of Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt, will be attending an informal luncheon in the magical section of Hampstead Heath overlooking the city. The event is open to the wizarding public; the Minister will spend time personally greeting guests.
The London Eye will be available exclusively for magical citizens from midnight December 30 until sunrise January 2. Those desiring tickets should contact the Ministry’s Festival Office…
