Chapter
26: Trouble
The petite
shapely witch paced back and forth in Poppy’s small office. The Hogwart’s
medi-witch watched the young woman with growing concern. Poppy should have
known that this was a high possible, considering who her parents were. She
always knew that later down the line that all the mischief that Sirius wrought
would come back to bite him on the arse and that was putting it mildly.
Poppy
shook her head, she and her agitated patient was currently awaiting the arrival
of the Headmaster and her Head of House. Thinking of Severus, Poppy couldn’t
even imagine what he would say once he received the news about his only
daughter.
Laughing
to herself, Poppy ruefully shook her head; and here James and Lucius was
worried about Harry getting into trouble that they never even considered the
possibility of Draco causing any type of shenanigans.
Turning
to face the healer, the female Black twin hiccough, “Madame Pomfrey, I don’t
feel so well.”
Tutting,
Poppy wasn’t surprised; the poor thing was working herself into quite a fit.
“It’s one of the side effects that you’re going to have to deal with, dear. Go
lay down and I’ll deal with your parents when they arrive. And don’t worry,”
Poppy gave her an encouraging smile. “I know how to handle your parents.”
Sniffling
and almost in tears, Sheridan hugged the medi-healer. “I’m sorry to cause so
much trouble. I never meant for any of this to happen.”
“Now,
don’t you worry about a thing, dear,” Poppy said re-assuring Sheridan once more
to remain calm. “I will make sure to remind all parties involved to handle this
situation like reasonable adults,” Poppy replied, guiding Sheridan to a private
room to rest.
Once
closing the door, Poppy saw the Headmaster and Severus. Steeling her nerves,
she approached them.
“Poppy,
what’s the matter?” Dumbledore asked with Severus at his side.
She
motioned for them to convene in her office for a bit of privacy. What she was
about to tell them was going to be a shock. Just as Albus was taking a seat,
Sirius quietly stepped in going directly to his spouse.
“Oh,
Sirius, I’m so glad that you made it,” Poppy announced.
“Madame
Pomfrey, I got here as soon as I could. Your messaged said that it was urgent,”
Sirius said, not liking the unknown of what was going-on with his children. He
glanced at Severus, but his dark haired lover simply shook his head negatively
in a quiet understanding that he didn’t know what going-on either.
From
the time when Sirius’ social status was reinstated, he had been sorting out the
mess the Ministry of Magic had inadvertently created with his family’s vaults
and properties he has had less time to spend with Severus and the twins. They
were almost adults and Sirius already missed a good portion of their lives, he
didn’t want to miss out on any more. Naturally, when he received Poppy owl,
Sirius literally dropped everything, dashed out of Minister of Magic and flew
to Hogwarts.
In
addition to that, Rufus Scrimgeour asked (actually he begged on hands and
knees) for Sirius to return as an Auror.
Of
course, Sirius agreed with some stipulations, which included him having his own
office, a team of Aurors to lead (hand-picked himself) and a big salary
increase with holidays off—Scrimgeour hesitantly agreed—being at the tender
mercy of the Black family was an extremely expensive price to pay and
Scrimgeour paid it, much to his malcontent.
So,
now here was the Monarch of the House of Black, in the infirmary alongside his
husband at the school where his children attended, which meant something has
happened to either Orion or Sheridan or both, the possibilities were endless.
“Severus
as Head of Slytherin, you needed to be informed of this situation as well as
Albus,” Poppy cautiously said, hoping to keep Severus’ infamous temper in check
by reminding him of his obligation to Hogwarts as a professor first then a
parent second.
“What’s
happened, Poppy?” Albus inquired.
“By
law, I have to inform you Headmaster and the minor’s parents, but I do not have
to give specifics. Well, to put it bluntly, Sheridan is pregnant,” Poppy said a
directly as she could.
She
gauged each of the men in front of her. If the situation wasn’t so dire she
would have laughed. Albus for once in his long life was stunned speechless.
However, Severus was gripping the arms of the chair tightly and Sirius was
turning an ugly shade of purple. Poppy was beginning to believe that her former
patient was going to pass out from the lack of oxygen.
“Who
(cough) Who is the father, Poppy?” Albus finally broke the deafening silence.
“I
don’t know and she won’t tell me, which leads me to my next dilemma—I can’t
perform a parental test without the parent’s permission because of Miss Black’s
age,” Poppy answered.
Quickly
standing up, Severus marched out of the office.
“Severus!”
Poppy called after the teacher. Fearing what he might do to Sheridan, she
jumped up out of her seat as well intending on intercepting him.
“Sev,”
Sirius called out following right behind his husband. He was upset, sure, but
he was not going to hurt his daughter for a mistake for her lack in judgment.
“Severus!”
Poppy
sat back down knowing that Sirius would keep Severus from doing anything
foolish, but the Potions professor stopped just inside the doorway opeing the
door with a violent swing—it bang loudly against the wall inside of the
medi-witch’s office. Over his shoulder Severus in his most chilling tone ever,
“Do the test Poppy.”
A
short time later, Sheridan woke to her parents standing over her bed; she knew
she was in deep trouble by the furious look in her mother’s obsidian eyes. It
didn’t take long for her to figure out that Poppy told them her secret. The
younger twin didn’t know what was going to happen as she visibly started to
shake. How could she be so bloody stupid?
Sighing
at the sight of his baby girl being scared of him, Severus sat down on the
chair closest to the bed Sheridan was residing on while Sirius eased himself
down at the foot of the bed.
Severus
learned early on that he needed to be calm whilst dealing with teenagers and
his own children were no exception.
“Sheridan,
we gave Poppy permission to perform the paternity test, but first we need to
hear it from you,” Severus asked as gently as he could. “And please be honest,
sweetheart.”
Tears
were already blurring her vision. She was embarrassed for the shame she cause
her mum and dad, but the deed had been done and there was no turn back. “It’s
Draco.”
oOoOoOo
After
the hair rising events of the Department of Mysteries, Dr. Bloom was concerned
for both James and the baby’s health and ordered for him to remain on bed rest
for the last weeks of his pregnancy. He wanted to ensure that the baby’s lungs
were fully develop, which James did not complain about.
He was
resting comfortably dozing lightly when one of the house-elves popped into his
bedroom with a letter from Hogwarts.
To:
Lord Lucius Malfoy and his Consort, James Malfoy,
I
urgently request your presence immediately without delay at Hogwarts: School of
Witchcraft and Wizardary. All will be explain once you arrive.
Sincerely,
Albus
Dumbledore
Headmaster
Groaning
at having to leave the warm, soft comforts of his bed, James literally dragged
himself to his feet. He stopped to catch his breath and then set about sending
a reply before making himself presentable. And while he was writing to Albus,
he may as well pen a quick note to his husband.
Lucius
would be home soon. He and Lucien were at a business dinner event for the
families of one of the local companies and James didn’t want his husband having
kittens at seeing the bed empty—that would not be pleasant at all and James
wanted to avoid any type of verbal confrontation at all costs. He would have to
wear his maternity robes and slip-ons owing to the fact the James could no
longer bend at the waist to tie his shoes.
James
slowly made the trek to the drive; he was going to have to take the carriage to
the school as flooing and Apparating was out of the question this far gone into
his gestation. Any harmful moving about could harm the baby and James wasn’t
about to risk her life—yes, her—James and Lucius found out that they were
having a girl. James was very adamant about knowing the sex of their baby
because he wanted to be prepared.
And
Lucius...
He was
over the moon.
As
James stepped-up into the carriage, a nagging feeling was slowly gripping his
side. Unfortunately, he should have listened to his doctor and stayed in bed,
for the events upon his arrival to Hogwarts would set unexpected consequences
into motion.
oOoOoOo
Everyone
was gathered in the Headmaster’s office. It wasn’t very often that Albus had to
call a meeting such as this but young people of today were irresponsible
sometimes.
He
smiled. Eyes twinkling like mad, which put those gathered on guard as to what
the old man was up to.
He
glanced at his former students, and he didn’t know who appeared more miserable,
James, Sirius, or Severus. He wondered what was keeping Lucius, but didn’t want
to keep the other parents waiting, it was best that this discovery was over so
they can figure out how to deal with the fallout of their children’s actions.
“Albus,
what was so pressing that I needed to leave my bed,” James inquired shifting
uncomfortably in the plush wing back chair. It felt like he was sitting on
rocks—his stomach rolled with a violent churn. He swallowed—resisting the urge
to vomit.
“Ah,
I’m afraid, James, that something has occurred with young Draco and it involves
Miss Black,” Albus finally said. Taking a deep cleansing breathe, Albus
ploughed on, “It seems that young Draco and Miss Black will be parents in the
near future.”
Staring
unblinkingly at the older wizard, James snorted covering a sharp pain that
originated in his lower abdomen. “Come again?”
“Sheridan
is pregnant and Draco’s the father, James,” Sirius repeated.
“I
don’t understand? How did this happen?” James was stunned, fighting back a
pained grunt.
“You
of all people should know how it happened considering you’re about to give
birth yourself, Potter!” Severus shouted feeling quite faint himself. He came
around on the other side of James. Sweat was pooling on his brow.
Quickly
standing, ignoring the cramp in his lower stomach, James replied, “That’s not
what I’m talking about, Severus, and you damn well know it! I’m referring to
how in the bloody hell Sheridan could be pregnant when Draco is on birth
control?!”
“What?”
Sirius exclaimed.
“You
heard me, Siri. Draco is on birth control. There is no way for him to have
gotten Sheri pregnant unless…” James trailed off.
“Unless
Draco used something that would interfere with whatever potions he’s taking,”
Severus finished, the headmaster’s office was waving in and out of his vision.
“That’s
still is impossible,” James answered wincing a little from a sharp kick to his
back.
“Why
is that, James?” Albus asked.
Turning
a lovely shade of pink, James answered, “Because Draco should have used a condom.”
For
the second time, Albus was at a loss for words. Sirius eyes became a wide a
dinner plates at hearing what his best friend admitted out loud. Before any
other words could be exchanged, Severus collapsed.
oOoOoOo
“…he
will take the news, Poppy.”
That
was Sirius speaking.
“He
will… thrilled, Sirius.”
That
was Dumbledore. Who would be thrilled about what?
His
head hurt something fierce. The lights behind his eye-lids were too bright and
the noise sounding in his ears was too loud. Everything was like static and his
mouth felt like he ate dirt. Had he and Sirius been drinking all night for his
mouth to be so dry?
“I’ll
tell… what…”
“Very
well, Sirius… We’ll leave you… We’ll let you know how James…” Albus replied.
“We must… Lucius… Lucien…”
Something
happened to James? Severus couldn’t piece his mind together. Everything faded
to the background and Severus was blissfully unaware once again.
oOoOoOo
Walking
down the long quiet corridor from the infirmary, the Headmaster clasped
withered hands together, humming merrily to himself. He hasn’t had this much
fun since the Marauders, Lucius and Severus had a duel near the lake and almost
set the school grounds on fire.
Looks
like babies were plentiful at Hogwarts and the Headmaster couldn’t wait. Now to
see how James was coming along. Oh, he hoped that Lucius received his message
in time. He didn’t want the man to miss the birth of his third child.
oOoOoOo
Lucien
was having the time of his life. He was literally being swept off his feet as
Matthew flirted and teased him throughout the night.
Thinking
back on it, Lucien almost decided not to attend the formal function. His only
son and heir approached him a few nights ago…
“Father,
there’s a banquet that the Board Member wives are planning,” Lucius said
gaining Lucien’s attention. “I know you hate attending these types of dinners
with James and I as the females tend to go overboard in wanting to set you up
with their sisters or daughters, but-”
Smiling,
Lucien knew exactly what his son was asking him. “Of course I’ll go with you,
Lucius, owing to the fact that James is confined to bed.”
Lucius
nearly blanched at the idea of having his father as his date—that just seemed
wrong on so many levels.
“No,
Father, I mean to say is that you may ask whomever you would like to take. I
know I haven’t been very supportive of you and your relationship with Calhoun.”
Now
it was Lucien’s turn to cringe. Calhoun was like a son to him. There was no way
that Lucien could see him as a potential lover—ever!
“Son,
I’m not in a relationship with him, Lucius. How many times must I tell you
that?”
“I’ve
seen that way he looks at you. And who wouldn’t?” Lucius said sounding like a
spoiled child not wanting to share his parent with anyone. “You’re the center
of the gossip circles everywhere I go, Father. You’d be shocked at what people
would love to do with you behind closed doors. Personal, I would prefer not to
know.”
Resisting
the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose, Lucien sighed heavily.
“Lucius,
you are my one and only greatest treasure that your Mother has left me and I am
bound to you until you and James part from this world. I cannot deny that I
miss your Mother. I loved Lucas with every fiber of my being. There is not a
day that goes by that I do not think of him.”
“Father,
I-”
“No,
Lucius. Hear me out, please,” Lucien interjected. “I am lonely. Yes, I have
you, James, and the kids. However, I am nothing more but an outsider to your family. And while I’m
flattered that you think I would take Calhoun into my bed—I would not do that
to you as I know you and he are best of friends. For some time now, I’ve been
seeing his father—nothing serious, mind you. There is something about Matthew
that draws me to him,” Lucien explained.
“So,
with that being said, my son, I will take Matt to the dinner and what follows will
be of no concern of yours—do I make myself clear, Lucius?”
“Perfectly,
Father…”
Now,
here Lucien stood on the balcony, overlooking the vast rose garden with a small
pond at the far end of the rolling hills of grass. Matt was standing next to
him. There was a nervous twitch to the lawyer as he fiddled with something in
his robe pocket.
Lucien
wondered what was going on with his lover when suddenly; Matt swept Lucien into
his arms and kissed him senseless.
Lucien
didn’t know what came over Matt but it gave him an exciting thrill as the kiss
promised a fiery ending to this exquisite evening.
“Lucien,
I’ve giving this a lot of thought,” Matthew whispered, searching mercurial orbs
while rubbing his left hand soothingly up and down the aristocrat’s back. “And
I would be extremely honored if you would accept me as your husband. Will you marry
me?”
The
elder Malfoy was stunned speechless as he stared at the diamond encrusted gold
band that Matt pulled from his hidden pocket that he was toying with earlier,
and before he could form a reply, Lucius rushed out onto the balcony after
having seen them slip away from the crowd.
“Father,
I’m sorry for disturbing you but the Headmaster just sent me an urgent
message—it’s seems that James has gone into labor. He’s in the infirmary at the
school,” Lucius frantically said. He looked a little frazzled with his eyes
wide with fear for his husband and soon-to-be-born child.
With
an apologetic look on his face, Lucien said, “I’m sorry, Matt, but can we
discuss this in greater detail later?”
“Go
take care of your son-in-law and owl me when you get home,” Matt answered
giving Lucien a light kiss on the cheek.
Both
Malfoys left via floo. Lucien breathed a sigh of relief, a little happy for the
reprieve as he didn’t know how to turn-down the marriage proposal—that was
quite unexpected. Worse still—how was he going to inform his son? Lucien just
knew that this would not end well as his son very protective of him especially
his heart. Lucius would have kittens for sure over this latest development.
oOoOoOo
Waking
for the second time that day, Severus found himself staring at the dark hair of
his lover. Sirius was draped acrossed his legs holding onto his hand in his
sleep.
Severus
smiled. It was moments like this that Sirius was unguarded in his sleep.
Despite his youthful appearance, Sirius grey eyes held a hardness to them that
he acquired from his stay in Azakaban. Nevertheless, when Sirius was like this,
this was meant for his eyes only.
“Siri?
Wake-up, love,” Severus prompted.
“Hmm…”
“Sirius,
wake-up.”
Inhaling
deeply, Sirius made a bid to keep his eyes closed a little while longer. “I
promise to give you a blow job later, love, if you let me sleep for another ten
minutes.”
Blushing
to the tips of his ears, Severus was glad that no one was in the room with him
when Sirius made that declaration, he wouldn’t be able to live down the
embarrassment of anyone being privy to their sex life.
“Sirius,
I feel sick to my stomach,” Severus said after a moment.
Immediately,
Sirius sat straight-up upon hearing his husband’s declaration.
Happy
to be able to move, Severus turned just in time to empty his stomach into the
near-by waste bin. Sirius went into the adjoining bathroom to get a cool towel
and a glass of water. When he returned, Severus was dry heaving, not having
anything left to bring up.
“Here,
this might help,” Sirius said moving the bin out of the way and placing the
cool towel on the back of Severus’ neck and wiping his forehead and face with
another towel.
“Sorry,
Siri. I don’t know what’s wrong with me,” Severus admitted. This was the first
time in a good long while since he’s been sick. He laid back against the
pillows that Sirius fluffed-up for him once he was finished tending to
cleaning-up his mess and putting everything back in place.
“I
spoke with Madame Pomfrey. She said that you are a bit dehydrated and a little
underweight,” Sirius said looking at his husband with worry rubbing his hand.
His
head started aching again. “I don’t understand. I haven’t changed my eating
habits and I’m definitely not on a diet. That woman complains enough as it is
that I’m far too thin for her liking.”
Sirius
gave a light chuckle. “Sev, Poppy said that you’re about twelve weeks
pregnant.”
Obsidian
orbs widen from disbelief.
“I beg
your pardon?”
“Severus,
you’re pregnant. Why didn’t you tell me?” Sirius replied.
“I… I…
I didn’t know. How can that be? Poppy told me after my last miscarriage that my
chances of ever getting pregnant again were slim to none. My uterus couldn’t
handle the stress of a multiple conception,” Severus explained to his lover
unable to fathom what his husband just imparted to him.
“The operative
word is ‘multiple’, sweetheart,” Sirius answered with an all knowing smile
playing across his lips.
Placing
a shaking hand on top of stomach, Severus held his breath. There underneath his
splayed hand were the tiny bursts of magical essence coming from their child
from deep within his womb.
Tears
pooled in grey and black spheres.
“We’re
having a baby,” Severus declared, gently wiping the tears that now flowed
unchecked from his eyes.
“Yes,
love. Yes, we are,” Sirius replied giving his lover a tender kiss.
oOoOoOo
The
doors to the Great Hall opened to the Malfoys. Both dress in their finest dress
robes that money could buy. Harry saw his father and grandfather and groaned.
He was not in trouble! He promised his mum that he would not do anything at the
start of term.
Why
were they here?
“Harry,
what did you do this time?” Hermione asked curiously when she saw Lucius and
Lucien Malfoy.
“Nothing,”
Harry answered.
The
duo walked up to the head table to speak with the Headmistress. Whispering
among themselves; Minerva then escorted them out a side door post-haste.
“Hmm,
I wonder what the hurry is?” Orion commented. “Your dad didn’t look to well,
Harry. You sure everything’s alright?”
“I
don’t know, but I think we need to find out,” he said. Another thought came to
him. “You don’t think that Uncle Remus took a turn for the worse, do you?”
“No,
dad said that he finally woke-up. The silver poisoning kept him unconscious for
a good long while. We still haven’t been able to see him yet. Only Uncle
Regulas is allowed to visit him because of him being his mate,” Orion answered.
“Something else has your father on end.”
While
they were talking, Professor McGonagall returned and this time she went
directly over to the Slytherin table to where Draco was sitting.
Well,
at least they knew who was in trouble.
oOoOoOo
He
only saw James briefly as Dr. Bloom kept his under. He said it was safer for
the baby. He didn’t think that he could thwart pre-mature labor should it
happen again. Whatever had upset James had triggered him into labor, which was
not good at all considering that he still had two months left. The infant
needed to stay housed until James reached thirty-six weeks. It would not due
for her to be born just yet.
While
Lucien sat with James, Lucius spoke with Poppy and she sent him on his way to
the Headmaster.
So,
here he was sitting in the Headmaster’s office awaiting for his son’s arrival.
“Albus,
you had no right to summon, my husband! You knew he was on bed rest!” Lucius
vented.
“And I
do apologize for that, Lucius, but I didn’t know you were not with him. I
waited for you to show but time was of the essence,” Albus answered.
“And
what was so bloody important that you had to summon either one of us?”
“Apparently,
we found out one of our students is pregnant,” Albus started cryptically.
“The
Board of Governors policy is to allow the student to remain at the school to
finish his or her education. As well give the student their own room with a
house elf to watch over the child while said student attends classes should he
or she gives birth during the school term. With that said, I still don’t see
any reason why we should have been called here,” Lucius said.
Just
then Draco walked into the office.
Lucius
closed his eyes and counted to twenty.
He
stood from his chair.
“Draco…”
Lucius started with barely suppressed rage. “How could you have let this
happen?”
The
second Malfoy heir was at a total loss of what he was being accused of, so when
in doubt, he put the blame on his big brother, “Father, whatever it is, Harry
did it.”
“And
what does Harry has to do with you being pregnant?”
Draco
choked.
“Pregnant?
Me?”
“Yes,
you!” Lucius shouted.
“But
I’m not. At least I don’t think I am,” Draco replied and his father snarled,
that was not the thing to say.
“Lucius,
please calm yourself. It’s not Draco who’s pregnant,” Albus cut in before
Lucius lost hold of his temper.
Lucius
relaxed somewhat.
“It’s
Miss Black.”
Turning
around to stare at the elderly wizard, Lucius was about to ask who was the
father of the child when Albus said, “Apparently, Severus and Sirius talked
with Sheridan and she admitted that the father of her unborn child is young
Draco here.”
Thunk!
There
in a heap upon the Headmaster’s floor was Lucius and James’ second son. Draco
passed out cold from hearing that he got some girl pregnant; and not just any
girl, his godfather’s daughter.
oOoOoOo
The
days following Severus’ discovery of being pregnant and James nearly going into
labor; everyone’s nerves were still on ends. Poppy called all parties involved
into her office as she administered the parental test. Sirius and Lucius
discounted what the results yield. The headmaster eyes held that old familiar
shine to them, which Lucien wanted dig out with a jagged rusty spoon.
They
stared at the parchment for the third time.
They
stared at the parchment for the fifth time.
Yet
the outcome still remained the same no matter how many times they glared at it
to change.
Apparently
Draco wasn’t the father of Sheridan’s baby. There floating in the depths of the
purple liquid of the paternity test was the name of Calvin Mercier Calhoun.
oOo TBC oOo
A/N:
How was that? Did everyone believe that Draco was the father? Come-on, raise
your hands, because I thought for sure it was him. Don’t worry, everything will
be explained in due time. So does this mean for Calhoun? Will Lucius finally
get around to killing one of his close friends? Don’t know, stay tune for the
next chapter to find out.

“She
wanted to get pregnant,” Lucius stated.
Negatively
shaking his head in denial, Sirius couldn’t believe that his daughter would do
something like that on purpose.
“But
why?” Sirius asked.
“The
baby ensured her hand in marriage to Calhoun,” Lucius replied.
