Pluto: Butterfly buns. Simply a small sponge bun, (individual size cake) the top removed and filled with a scoop of butter cream, top cut in half and stuck in the cream to resemble butterfly wings.

Kathy doesn�t know of Sirius� background, all she knows of him were his silly adolescent advances in her kitchen, then the childish goading the next time he appeared. Whether she would have reacted differently had she known, I doubt it, but???

XC & Tiff: Sirius didn�t mean to be a jerk, think he just didn�t get a chance to grow up in Askaban. Minerva�s just wary I think, she�ll be back in a later chapter.

Chapter 27

The next few weeks fell into a regular pattern. During that time Kathy plucked up the courage to invite Albus into her rooms and gave him an apology, only to have it rejected as he insisted it was not her fault. They all agreed it was a series of unfortunate misunderstandings and continued with her control of Leeching.

Another meeting was scheduled for the weekend, Friday night to be exact, the day before Valentines day.
Albus had as usual, arranged for a Valentines dance, only this year he stated it was to be a masquerade ball.
Severus argued that masks would only make it more difficult to identify the culprits of any misdeeds, while Albus happily suggested he escort Kathy to the ball, since no one would be able to distinguish her from the rest of the guests
�So far only Minerva knows that Kathy is here, and she is hardly likely to announce that she has been here for several months now. No, I think it will be good for her to attend the ball, it is time for her to �come out�, into the public eye.�
�Nonsense, it is too risky. Masks can slip, all number of thing can go wrong. Its too soon Albus.�
�Erm, do I get a say in this?�
Both wizards turned to her in surprise.
�You two are talking about me like I�m not here. No ones asked if I even want to go to a ball.�
�See, she doesn�t want to go.� Severus countered.
�Of course she does, all young ladies enjoy going to balls. She needs to be seen Severus, to be noticed.� Albus stated.
�Well this lady had never been to one, has no idea what it involves, has nothing to wear, and has not even been cordially invited. And I�m not sure I want to �be seen�.� She stomped off to her bedroom and closed the door on them.
Severus and Albus stared at the door, then at each other, and both shrugged.

�Cordially invited?� Severus mouthed.
�I believe that�s what she said.� Albus whispered back with a shrug.
�You don�t think she expects me to� ask her properly do you?�
�I would say she does, yes.�
Severus groaned. �Why do you insist on getting me into these predicaments old man?�
Albus glared at his friend. �Me? I only suggested you take her, don�t blame me because you didn�t ask her in the correct manner.�
�You were the one who suggested it.� Severus hissed back. �You and your damned balls. What if I didn�t want to go myself?�

�You have to be there anyway, all staff are expected to attend, you know that.�
�Yes I do, but alone I can sneak out when� I haven�t taken anyone to a ball in years Albus. What will people say?�
Albus chuckled as they headed for Severus� rooms and a bottle of fire whiskey.

�The elves already have her measurements, I will ask Molly to go to Diagon Alley and select a suitable gown and mask for her, while you find the time to make a �cordial� invitation.�
�Sod off Albus.� Severus took a long swallow of his whiskey. It wasn�t that he didn�t want to take Kathy to the ball, more that he was afraid she�d say no, especially after recent events. The thought of her being noticed bothered him too, word would quickly get back to the Dark Lord that he�d accompanied a strange newcomer to the ball and he would demand to know who she was. It was also true that it was many years since he�d escorted anyone to a major function. Not since his schooldays in fact.
He spent the following day in a foul mood, shouting at the students, taking points, threatening to give them detention on the night of the ball. Actually Albus had decreed that no detentions were to be allowed for that night, but the students didn�t know that.

Severus broke out in a sweat each time he thought about asking Kathy to escort him to the ball, it was something he just didn�t do. He felt pathetic about the way he was feeling, today was Wednesday and Albus had suggested inviting some of the Order to attend on Saturday night. That meant Lupin. What if he asked her first? What if she said yes? She�d taken a decided interest in him when they first met. Gods, he was behaving worse than one of his students. Tonight, he�d ask her tonight when he went for his supper. Damn! She hadn�t asked him to supper tonight, he and Albus said they would meet with her after that. Well he wasn�t going to make a fool of himself in front of the old coot. Tomorrow then, Lupin might have contacted her by then. DamnDamnDamn. Why did there have to be a ball at all. Especially a masked ball. Hell, would Black be here in disguise?
As soon as classes were over for the day, he entered his office, took a deep breath, and opened the door to Kathy�s rooms.

�Hello, Kathy, are you there?� He called, normally she was in the kitchen or the living room. �Kathy? Damn it woman.� He growled. Where the hell could she be?
�We�re in the bedroom Severus, wait there will you.�
He started at the voice. That wasn�t Kathy�s voice, that was� �Molly, what are you doing here? Is Kathy in there with you?�
�Yes, now go away, we�re busy.�
Severus heard another voice speak to Molly, he thought it was rather deep for a female and wanted to know what was going on. �I am not leaving until I have seen Kathy and I know who is in that room.�
He heard more voices, then Molly came out of the bedroom, closing the door behind her and shoving Severus bodily into the kitchen.
�Severus Snape will you please keep your voice down and stop laying down the law. I have Madam Malkin in there and she�s fitting Kathy with a gown for the Valentines Day ball. Now I�ve told her that her customer has an illness that makes her very susceptible to infection, so the woman is wearing a pair of your special gloves and a face mask as she works, and yes, Kathy is wearing a mask too, just to look as though she really is afraid of catching something. You barging in here and shouting the odds is making things look suspicious.�
He was taken aback. �Oh!� Was all he managed to say.
�Don�t you �Oh� me Severus, you haven�t even asked her to go with you yet. Sirius and Remus have both talked about asking her on Friday evening you know, so has my Charlie, so if you don�t want her to pick one of them, you�d better get a move on. Though I doubt Sirius would stand much of a chance anyway.�
�Why do you think I�m here you foolish woman. How was I supposed to know she would be� Black, Lupin and your son all want to ask her? Well they can�t. They don�t even know her like I do. They have no right.�

�They have every right Severus, Kathy is a mature, attractive woman and my Charlie�s a good boy, I�m certainly not going to stop him if he wants to ask her. Anyway we�ve nearly finished, come back in twenty minutes, and knock next time.�
Severus re-entered his rooms in a mixture of bemused confusion, as well as anger, jealousy, and even a bit of hope. If Molly knew he hadn�t asked her yet and was encouraging him to do so, they must have discussed it, and the prospect of him asking her. Well he wasn�t going to give Lupin and Black a chance to step in and take his woman, Charlie was alright, but he wasn�t good enough for Kathy. His woman? Did he just think that? Dear Gods.
He sat in his study, leaving ajar the door to his office so he could hear the others leave. As soon as they did he went and knocked on Kathy�s door.
It opened immediately. �Did you forget something? Oh Severus it�s you. I thought Molly or maybe Madam Malkin had come back.� �Well done Kathy, state the obvious.� �Come in.�
She perched on the edge of a chair, hands clasped on her lap to stop herself from fidgeting. If he didn�t ask her soon she didn�t know what she�d do,
Severus took the seat opposite, running a finger round the inside of his collar, then he stood and paced a little, while a trickle of sweat ran down his back. �Stop being such an idiot and ask her you fool. She�s waiting for you to say something.� �I err� Kathy, would you do me the honour of attending the ball with me. Please.�
�Yes Severus, I�d love to go with you.�
�You will? I mean you will, that�s good. Fine. I will see you after supper then. With Albus of course.� �Shut up rambling man.� He admonished himself. He have her a quick, sideways glance, and left the room hurriedly.
Kathy sat open mouthed for a minute after he�d gone. She was sure he seemed a bit nervous.
