Tossing the Prophet on the table, Harry chuckled and shook his head before taking a drink of his juice. “I bet letting the Prophet print that stuff about me probably caused Fudge actual physical pain.”
Amused, Lucius snorted then nodded, “I bet it did. He now has to be sweating since it rather reverses many stances he was taking.” Picking up the paper, he quickly skimmed the article again then said, tone distracted, “The Dark Lord is going to go more mental than he was before over it. However, that's a good thing in this case. He's going to know exactly who to look at and go after him with everything he has.”“Wormtail, if he's smart and has any kind of a self-preservation streak, has probably already started hiding. He has to know what a firestorm this is going to set off and just who the Dark Lord is going to look at. It won't bode well for him, he has to know that,” Severus said, relaxing back in his chair, sipping a cup tea.“It's good though,” Lucius said. “It means everyone is going to be looking in that direction, not anywhere else. The reward alone is going to make them focus. The article was cryptic about who it was, but many are smart enough to pick up who it may mean. That will help as well.”“Do you think this'll help Sirius at all? I mean, I know he may get dragged into it and say he's the cause, but if they figure out it's Wormtail, won't it help him?” Harry asked, looking at the two.“I think, at least right now, the unwashed masses are going to keep thinking along the lines they are. However, the Ministry itself probably won't. Even Fudge has to be sweating on this as the evidence is 'fresh' and points to him. Not to mention they have evidence now, from what I gather, that he was a rat animagus. From what I understand, the DMLE is looking at this seriously, which means they have to be pulling up Black's case to see what's going on. I think, though it may take time, that it may end up with him cleared. Pettigrew is going to pop out of his hole at some point, we all know that, because the heat is going to be like dragon flames on his backside. When he does, he's going to make a mistake. People under that kind of pressure with his mentality always do. And when he does, he's going to end up in the hands of the Ministry. Then your godfather will end up cleared. I think it's just going to take time, Harry.” Severus told him, looking at the young man.Thinking that over, Harry gave a slow nod. “At least, maybe, there is a better chance than before.”“If they can't manage before this thing ends, we will when it's done,” Lucius told Harry firmly. “How? That I don't know. We do figure that we'll have some kind of clout, probably quite a bit, as we are doing what we are to protect you from both sides. If we have to use some of it in that direction, we will. Either way, I believe Black will end up cleared. It may just take time, as Severus said.”Liking that, Harry smiled. Then, after thinking about it, he grinned and chuckled. “Is it only me that finds it ironic that after so many years of being accused of being a Death Eater, Sirius is actually going to dress like one and pretend he is?”“I never thought of it that way, but it is,” Severus told him with an amused snort, smirking. “We'll have to mention that to him. He'll find it the height of amusing.”“Even better is the fact you're going to be playing one, Harry,” Lucius told him, smirking as well, shaking his head. “The mere thought that you are is enough to warp the mind.”Laughing, Harry said, “True! I didn't think of that! It is funny.” Looking between the two, a serious expression coming over his face, he reached down to pet Kaliya, who was resting in his lap then said, “I had an idea and wanted to ask.” Seeing both motion for him to continue, he said, “It's about the bit with us playing Death Eaters. You said you have to teach someone to do the spell to hang the Mark over the house. Wouldn't it be better to teach it to me since you have plenty of time to work with me to get it right? You won't have that kind of time with Sirius and Remus.”“Excellent suggestion,” Lucius told the young man, pleased with that. “I think it's one we need to take as well. The spells we need, though tricky, are simple ones. This is a good way to go about it.”“We will,” Severus told them with a nod. “I think it's also wise to walk you through the spells we know we'll need to imitate what needs to be done. I believe you know some of them, but others you won't. As they are something that can be used for defense, they are ones you can just add to what you know to protect yourself. When you talk to Black and Lupin today, let them know we'll have you do it. That's one less thing we have to worry about getting with them about.”“I will,” Harry told them, looking between the men. “We're going to do the bond tonight?” He asked, quietly, still slightly apprehensive about that because of what was involved. It wasn't that he was going to back out, it was just what was involved.“We are,” Lucius confirmed. “I think we have it timed to where Kaliya does yours right at the moment you truly turn fifteen. That should strengthen it on your end enough that you're better protected.” Lips quirking, he lowered his voice and imparted, “And I think all of us are more than slightly trepidatious about this so you're not alone in that, Harry.”“We are,” Severus confirmed. “Bonds are odd things that can have many strange effects no one counted on. I image this going to be no different, though we are trying to ensure those are minimal. In this case, we're just going to trust Kaliya as we know he won't put any of us in danger.”“I won't,” Kaliya said firmly, rising up to look around. “If you would, Harry, tell them I wouldn't even attempt this if I thought something could go awry. No, I won't endanger any of you. If I had concerns about any of it, I would voice them.”Translating that, Harry petted the snake and said, “We know, Kaliya. It's just the unknown factors here. That and being bitten.” Grinning at that, he chuckled, “I am keeping my eyes closed for that bit!”“I believe we all will,” Severus said with an amused snort, taking a drink of his tea. “We'll do it, no doubt. Besides, it'll be most pleasurable to finally understand you, Kaliya. That and hold a conversation that we don't need to have translated.”“Yes, that is something I look forward to myself,” Kaliya said. “No offense, Harry, but I would like more people to speak to directly rather than have to have you translate. Yes, this will be good.”“None taken,” Harry told him, grinning, after he translated that. “It'll be easier on me as well, trust me there.”Smirking once more, Lucius imparted smoothly, “Just prepare for a big dinner tonight, Harry. We have presents for you, of course. Lupin and Black sent over theirs as well. After we eat, we have something else in mind. So, expect to be busy tonight. I would suggest, this morning while Severus and I see what we can find in those disgusting books, you talk to the two of them. That way they get to send along their good wishes and you can relax.”“I'll do that,” Harry said, grinning again. Sobering up, he looked between the two then asked, “What are the odds of finding what we need in those things?”“I don't know,” Severus said with a shake of his head. “What we do know from a quick glance at them is that they contain more information on the topic than we've seen before. That gives me some hope. Just wait until we delve into them this afternoon and then we'll know more. If nothing else, it might give some kind of hints, maybe, on how to do something that could help.”“Alright,” Harry sighed, leaning back.“We'll find something eventually, never fear,” Lucius soothed. Moving on, he began to ask Harry about what he wanted for dinner so he could get with the elves to have them prepare.
Skin crawling at not only what was contained in the book he was looking through, but what he was feeling from the thing, Lucius shuddered when he closed it and pushed it aside. Stripping off the gloves he was wearing, he took a sip of his wine and sighed, rubbing his eyes. So far, he had taken some notes and marked a few passages that had some information they could use, but there was nothing directly related to transferring the Horcrux from one object to another. However, since it was the first book, he was hopeful it wasn't going to be a total washout. There was a great deal more information in the one book alone than they had found in anything else they managed to dredge up on the topic.
Shaking his head, he sighed then asked, looking over his shoulder at Severus, “Have you found anything yet? At least something useful if not right on topic with what we need?”“No,” Severus said, looking dour, rubbing his arms to stop the creepy-crawly feeling he was getting from the disgusting tome. Looking up as he shut the book and shoved it aside, he added, “Just some information we didn't know. I'm not even seeing what Dumbledore wants me to find. All I've encountered thus far is how to create, something I really don't need to know about.”“I'm in agreement there,” Lucius sighed, rubbing his eyes. “This may end up taking days to go through as I'm not sure how long I can stay in the room with the things. They are disgusting and the feelings they set off are best not dealt with for long periods of time.”“Yes, true,” Severus agreed. “If it takes us several days, it does. I don't see Albus clamoring for them back right away,” he told his friend while starting to thumb through the next book in the stack. “This is bad,” he muttered as he read through some of what was in the book, shaking his head, feeling his skin crawl at the malevolence that seemed to ooze off the book.
Downing the rest of his wine and signaling for a refill, Lucius sighed then delved into the next book he had to search through. “I wish one of the cataloging spells worked with this so we could sort through them easier,” he mumbled, shaking his head as he began to flip through it to the page that had been listed in the table of contents.“With the spells on these books, I wouldn't even attempt it,” Severus groused, scowling while he read. “Who knows what it might morph into or what it could backfire at us.”Rubbing his eyes and cringing at what he was reading, Lucius nodded, saying nothing.Tossing the one he was reading aside as there was nothing in it they didn't know, Severus moved on to the next, taking a drink of tea as he perused the table of contents. After flipping back and skimming through what was there, his eyes widened and he sat up straighter. “I have it!” He said, tone distracted as he read what was there more closely.Turning, Lucius asked, “How to move it from one place to another?”Nodding, vigorously, Severus told him, “The spell to do it. It even covers it for a living being.” Brow furrowed as he read, he shook his head then imparted, “We're going to need to get medical books, Lucius. It says here the body that contains the Horcrux needs anesthetized to do it or it can backfire and cause their death.” Looking up, he shook his head, “I don't like that.”Rubbing a hand over his face, Lucius thought it over then held his hand out for the book. When Severus passed it over to him, he quickly read what was there and sighed. As it was just a tiny blurb in a small section that wasn't even labeled Horcrux, it was something that wasn't easy to find, but it was there under a maintenance section for some dark objects. He wasn't sure how Severus found it, but he had. Shutting the book, he rubbed his eyes. “I don't either. It's the best we have, though.” Drumming his fingers on the desk, he asked, “Do you know potions that can do that? Or do we need the spell?”Thinking that over, Severus rubbed his upper lip then began to nod slowly. “I do. Some are quite powerful. Draught of the Living Death should do quite nicely for it. I'm not sure I want to chance this though, especially with us not knowing what we're doing!”Shaking his head, Lucius said, softly, “If we've had no practice with the spell, chancing it on Harry could be disastrous. And we have no other means to practice as we don't have a Horcrux to try removing it from. Even if we could find another, as Dumbledore seems to think there are some, if it's in an inanimate object, we're not going to know if it worked properly or not.”“Unless I can manage to get my hands on Nagini and we can prove she is a Horcrux,” Severus said, looking at him.Eyes widening, Lucius looked at him then began to nod slowly. “I think we need to get our hands on that snake, Severus. Though Kaliya may be upset by me saying this, I can easily tell you my train of thought would be I would rather sacrifice her than Harry if we make a mistake.”“I'm in agreement,” Severus told him firmly. “How about this—let's quickly scan the books for what we can find. If we find nothing close, we copy this spell and the instructions then go talk to Black, Lupin and Harry. As they are having a conversation, it'll be easy. Then we go from there.”“Let's get on with it,” Lucius told him firmly, picking up the next book in the stack and beginning to scan through the contents.
Looking down at the parchment in his hands, Harry sighed then looked at both Lucius and Severus before glancing at the mirror. “You didn't find anything else?” He asked quietly, though he was sure of the answer.
“We'll go through and read more in depth later, but that's the only thing we found other than only death will destroy it and some substances, none of which would be safe to inject in your scar,” Severus explained, looking at the young man. Looking at the mirror, he said, “If I can get my hands on Nagini then we prove she's one, we can try it. If it works, we'll do it on Harry. I know what can anesthetize him to where he will be fine, and the antidote for it.”“We just aren't willing to even attempt this without a trial run,” Lucius said with a sigh. “The only other thing we could come up with is something both of us refuse to do; create one ourselves. No, that's not going to happen,” he said with a firm shake of his head.“I can understand that,” Sirius said with a mirthless chuckle, rubbing his eyes. Thinking it over, he asked, “Do you think you can master the spell enough to give it a try on Nagini? And can you get your hands on her?”“The spell, from what we see, isn't that complex. It's dark, no doubt there, but I think both Severus and I can manage to get the hang of it,” Lucius said.“Grabbing Nagini is going to be tricky,” Severus admitted. “If I can, as Kaliya said, master Parseltongue, I think I have a good chance at getting my hands on her. However, to try I need to get my hands on some books about sedating animals with spells. I wouldn't even attempt to try a potion on her. It would have to be something that I could do very quickly as whatever I would try would have to be fast. Then there is the fact I'm going to have to lay it on someone else. That part I think I can manage and point the Dark Lord to a patsy for it. As no one that wears the mark is an innocent person, it's not something I have a problem with.” Stopping, he looked at both Harry and Lucius then glanced to the mirror then said, tone lower, “However, if I do this, we're going to have to make quick plans to get me out. The Dark Lord will go even further off the deep end if she vanishes. I will need to show up once or twice after that so it doesn't look suspicious, but I want out, fast. What will happen after that is not something I want to deal with as he will be so angry no one would be safe.”“Gotcha,” Sirius said with a firm nod.“How about this, Severus; you three work on that end with it, moving as fast as you can with the Parseltongue bit and learning the spell. Let Sirius and I see what we can find with the spells for animals part. Hagrid may know something. If he doesn't, we know plenty that might. Let us put out some feelers to them or see if they can point us to some books. We'll say it's for Buckbeak and make noises about moving him somewhere where he'll be happier.” Stopping, Remus looked at Sirius who gave him a nod then said, softly, “We were actually wondering if you would allow us to move him there, Lucius. He'll stay in the wards, of course, but he would be far happier with room to roam than he is here.”“We'll take him,” Lucius said with a nod, not even thinking about it. “He'll have to get used to Kaliya, of course, but I see no problem with him staying here. If you can make an excuse or find something to tell Albus, he can come. And he would be perfect for testing the spell on. I'm sure, on our end, the peacocks would be fine to use as subjects. I know that sounds cruel, but this is going to be a delicate operation. If we master the spells, they'll be fine.”“I don't see it as that cruel,” Sirius said with a sigh. “Hell, I'll let Remus try it on Padfoot. The effect should be the same. You need something to work with as none of you have an animagus form to try it with. Let's see what we can do here and find a good excuse for Albus with Buckbeak. Then we'll work from there.”Listening in, Kaliya said, “The Parseltongue should be easy, I would think. The way to do that is very simple. In a matter of days, Severus will be able to speak it fluently. We can then move from there. No, I do agree here; I wouldn't want to chance trying any of this on you without a trial run. If this Nagini is a Horcrux, she would probably be better off dead than suffering as she is. Please impart that to everyone if you would, Harry.”Translating that, rubbing Kaliya's head, Harry said, “I trust you lot, you know that, but, really, yeah, I want you to use something else as a guinea pig before you try it on me.”Putting a hand on the young man's shoulder, Lucius gave it a squeeze, “I don't see that as not trusting us, Harry. It's called common sense. We take no issue there as I would insist on the same proviso myself.”Nodding, Severus then said, “We're going to keep looking as we just skimmed the texts after finding that, but it's the best we have so far.”“You do that and we'll work on our end,” Sirius told him with a nod. “We'll find something on the spells even if we have to go buy the books.”“We'll get it out, never fear,” Lucius assured them, feeling more hopeful about that end of things than he had in a long while.
