Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor the characters from it. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Some of the dialog in this Chapter was taken directly from either the movie or book version of Deathly Hallows. I don't plan on making a habit of that, but for this particular chapter it just...worked.
It's kind of sucking to be Ginny right now. She hasn't seen or heard from her lover in almost a month and now he's cursed her brother's ear off...please read and review.

Ginny stared nervously out the window into the yard. Her face looked far older then her 17 years, dark circles and lines were etched around her eyes. She had slept very little over the past month.
"Anything? " Her Mum asked from behind her, her hands wringing nervously into her apron.
"No." Ginny said shaking her head. Glancing at her watch, she looked back out into the yard and sighed heavily as an ancient sneaker fell out of the sky to land near a rusty oil can.
"Dad and Fred's portkey just returned." She said quietly. Molly face brightened with hope, but fell again when Ginny shook her head sadly. "They're not with it."
Glancing at the clock on her wall, Molly shuddered, all the hands except hers and Ginny's pointed to "mortal peril". Wringing her hands she began pacing back and forth across the kitchen floor.
"Mum, please." Ginny said, turning her back on the window. "I'm sure they're fine."
Molly's response was drowned out by a loud roar and splash outside in the yard. She ran out the door with Ginny close on her heels.
"Harry, Hagrid." Molly called as the two made their way wearily across the yard. "Where are the others?"
"They're not back yet?" Harry asked his voice worried.
"No." Ginny said shaking her head. "That one was meant to be Ron and Tonks." She said pointing to the oil can. "And the sneaker was Dad and Fred. You were meant to come back third. What happened?"
"It was an ambush Molly." Hagrid said, shaking his head. "They were on us right from the start. We didn't stand a chance."
"Well, thank goodness you two are all right." Molly said, leaning forward to guide them into the house. A loud crack stopped her in her tracks.
"Here!" Lupin called, coming out of the field, a bleeding George slung heavily on his shoulder. "Quick. Into the house."
"Oh my boy." Molly cried when she saw George. Blood ran from the side of his head and down his neck. His ear had been sliced off, leaving a bloody, gaping hole. "Bring him here and put him on the couch." She said, helping to ease George from Remus' shoulder.
Lupin turned and grabbed Harry, throwing him against the wall, his wand pointed at his throat.
"What are you doing?" Ginny shrieked.
"What creature sat in the corner of my office the first time Harry Potter visited me."
"A Grindylow, I think." Harry panted.
Lupin nodded. "I'm sorry. I had to check that it was really you. We've been betrayed. Voldemort knew you were being moved tonight." He moved to stare down at George, bleeding on the couch. "Snape's work. Sepctumsempra always was one of his specialties."
Ginny gasped, her hands flying to her mouth.
Her reaction went unnoticed as Arthur and Fred rushed into the room.
"Where's George?" Fred asked, running to his twin's side.
"How you feeling Georgie?" Fred asked, kneeling down to brush his hand across his brother's forehead.
"Saint-like." George moaned. "Get it? Saint-like. I'm holey."
Fred shook his head. "The whole wide world of ear-related humor and you go for 'I'm holey'. That's pathetic."
Another whoosh and crack outside drew their attention. Hermione and Kingsley had landed, closely followed by Ron and Tonks. Hermione ran across the yard and embraced Ron in a fierce hug.
~~~Later that evening~~~
Ginny lay in her bed staring up at the ceiling when Hermione entered the room. "How's George's ear?" She asked softly.
"You're Mum was able to clean the edges, but she can't replace the ear because it was cursed off." She sat down on the edge of her bed and stared pointedly at Ginny. "By Snape."
Ginny nodded her head and wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Ron, Harry and I will be leaving after the Wedding." Hermione said, changing the subject.
"I figured you would." Ginny answered softly. "Harry's secret mission for Dumbledore?"
Hermione nodded her head. "Don't tell anyone."
"I won't. Good night Hermione." She said, rolling over on to her side.
Hermione lay in the darkness and listened to Ginny softly weep. She wanted to comfort her, but she didn't know what to say or do. Her eyes widened as a bright silver light suddenly filled the room.
"Ginny." She hissed as the light formed itself into the shape of a doe.
Ginny rose slowly from the bed and stared in wonder at the Patronus. Snape's voice issued forth, broken and disjointed.
"…..Lioness….so sorry."
"….aiming for Death Eater. Could never hurt…"
"….love you so much….."
"…..so sorry….."
The doe faded away just as Ginny reached out to place her hand into the silver light.
When it was gone, Ginny sobbed with relief. "Severus." She moaned turning to look at Hermione. "Don't you see Hermione? It's Severus."
Her friend shook her head in confusion.
"That's his Patronus." Ginny cried in relief. "He wanted me to know that he didn't mean to hurt George. That he still loves me."
"But Ginny…" Hermione started to speak.
"No!" Ginny hissed fiercely. "I won't hear it. I won't. You don't know him. You don't know him at all. I believe him."
"Okay Ginny." Hermione whispered. "Okay."
