Chapter 27:
Someone, Somewhere, Is Paying My Therapy Bills!
Shooting a wary glance at the pale Draco who was staring intently at his plate, refusing to look at anyone, Sirius gave an internal grin. That was funny, actually, because he had brought the mess on himself. After all, one of the first rules of potions was to make sure you had a clean cauldron. He didn't follow that then decided to brew up a volatile potion that was experimental at best. This was the result. However, it did appear that the confession streak was over. Snape had finally come up with something that stopped it, thankfully. Now Draco and Lucius had to deal with the fallout of what happened.
Shaking his head, grinning slightly, Sirius cleared his throat. “I say, since Draco isn't confessing to everything under the sun, we do the movie thing tonight.” Unable to help himself, he added, “Just so he stays as far away from Harry as we can keep him.”
Hearing Draco whimper at that, Lucius sighed. Trying to put a stoic front on, he said, “I think a movie is a good idea. It should be quite entertaining.”
“Provided we don't pick one that we have to explain too much,” Severus groused, looking at Potter with an eyebrow up.
“I was thinking 'The Birdcage',” Harry grinned. “It should be a right riot. As it's a comedy, it won't take too much explaining.”
“Good choice,” Severus nodded, sipping his tea. “I'll go out and get a paper so we can choose a time to go.”
“Already done,” Sirius grinned, tossing it onto the table. “The first foray out of the house with no fear! I had to take it. We figure the late afternoon showing will be fine.”
“That sounds good,” Snape nodded, though not looking forward to this. He just knew that something was coming from it and it would cause a nightmare. Glaring at Draco and Lucius, he said, “And, once more, I'll tell you that if you start talking through the whole thing, I'm Silencioing you! I mean it! I do understand the enthusiasm as this is a new experience, but we will have some decorum so that the Muggles think nothing is off. And keep in mind that this movie is a comedy, thus not meant to be taken seriously.” Looking at Lucius, he added, “And no ferrets!”
“No, the boys will stay home,” Lucius conceded with a sigh. “I can see where this isn't something they should partake in.”
“What's a movie anyway?” Draco asked quietly, not wanting to draw more attention to himself. Already, this was a nightmare. He might not be confessing to everything under the sun now, but there were still after effects that included an ego that took a right trouncing. Potter—every time he looked at him there was a longing that he couldn't shake. Realistically, he knew that was out of the question as he was bonded to not only his father, but Black as well. It was just—he couldn't shake it, no matter what he did. He wanted to fall at Potter's feet and beg for him to take him. He wouldn't do that, though, and was trying to keep it under control. To help, he wrote his mother about going home for the rest of the summer. All he was waiting on was her response to that. He had already discussed it with his father and he agreed that was for the best. Being away from Potter was something he thought he needed lest he end up doing something very foolish.
Quickly, everyone explained what it was. When they finished, Lucius told his son, “You'll like it. The experience is something unlike anything we've done before. It's highly entertaining.”
Taking in what was said and trying to visualize it, Draco gave a slow nod then asked his father, “You liked it?”
“Very much,” Lucius assured him. “The visuals—you'll understand when you see them. We'll have a good time, I assure you.”
“You'll enjoy it,” Severus chimed in. He hoped that by them getting out and doing something entertaining it would hold off on more insanity. Of course, he wasn't counting on that, but he hoped. Before they left, though, he was getting with Lupin to ensure that the Malfoy spawn was kept as far away from Potter as he could get him. There was still something going on there, though he didn't know what, that was giving him a bad feeling. It was his hope that keeping them separated would help. If nothing else, he and Lupin could easily catch Draco before he did something foolish. That was something he wanted to ensure.
Nodding as he took in everything that was said, Draco then stared at his plate again. Even glancing at Potter was causing issues. No, he needed to get out of here as fast as he could manage. Being with his mother would be traumatizing, that he knew, but it was better than this. It was something he just couldn't handle anymore. That's all there was to it.
Polishing off the last of his food, he glanced up and happened to see Potter leaning against Black. Seeing Black slip his arm around him, something that was normal from all he saw since coming to stay, he whimpered softly. That longing—it was growing and he didn't know how to stop it. He also didn't want to say anything to anyone either. That would just add more humiliation on to what was already going on. He couldn’t handle that. No, out—he had to get out! All he hoped was that his mother would deal with his owl quickly so nothing more happened.
After a glance at the letter in his hands, Lucius looked at Black and Harry then said, “Narcissa is picking Draco up the day after tomorrow. He's decided that it's best he spend the summer with her and not here. I do agree, what with all that's going on, he's better off.” It was about an hour before they were going to leave for the movie, so Lucius thought it was best to do it before then so they were aware.
“Fine with us,” Sirius chuckled, shaking his head. “I don't suppose that stunt he pulled, and the aftermath, have anything to do with it?”
“That would be my guess,” Lucius admitted with a shake of his head. Brow furrowed, he added, tone distracted, “I think there is more to it, though. I'm not sure what it might be. Let me see what I can find out. If it's nothing that affects anything, I won't pass it along. If it is, though, we may need to prepare.”
“We damned well better prepare if it's something that affects all of us,” Sirius told him in a hard tone.
“I'll ensure it is passed along,” Lucius soothed, planning to figure out what was going on. He was sure it was more than the humiliation his son brought on himself that was driving this. Which meant he needed to know in order to prepare for whatever Narcissa would do. As it was, it was doubtful his soon to be ex-wife would be happy that he allowed that debacle to take place. If anything worse was coming, it meant he needed to start forking out large sums of money to bribe her silly. That would dissipate the anger enough that he wouldn’t be in danger of needing a trip to St. Mungos to repair what she did to him. No, that wouldn't help anything. Because, even without the confessional streak, he was sure to end up eyebrows deep in a cauldron of hot water over it as he wasn't keeping an eye on his son like he should have. It was best to prepare for what might come.
“Any clue what it might be?” Sirius asked warily. He wasn't sure there, but knew Draco was acting decidedly odd. Which meant more insanity was bound to come if they didn't get a hint.
“No,” Lucius admitted with a groan, rubbing his hand over his face. “Let me see what I can find out. If I can't come up with anything, I'll let Severus step in. We'll go from there after that.”
Shaking his head as he listened in, Harry muttered to where only Sirius could hear, “Someone, somewhere, is paying my therapy bills over this mess. If it keeps up, I'll end up in a straight jacket in the Janus Thickey Ward! I just can't take much more.”
Giving an amused snort at that, Sirius grinned, “We'll figure it out, Harry. Just stick close to me and I'll fend off whatever is thrown at us.”
“Even you haven't managed that and we keep getting drawn in,” Harry sighed, slumping. “It just keeps getting worse, too. I'm serious, this is—I can't take much more.”
Slipping an arm around Harry, Sirius pulled him close then kissed him on the side of the head. “We'll get through it, don't worry. Whatever is going on, we'll let Lucius take it on as it's his son that’s involved.”
Looking at Harry, seeing the expression there, Lucius sighed. Nodding, he told him, “I'll take care of whatever it is. Let me see what I can find out then I'll deal accordingly.”
Though holding out no hope that he wouldn't get drawn in yet again, Harry nodded. He told himself to focus on the movie they were going to see and how it would end up fun, no matter what. Anything else? He would deal with it later.
“I say that we make Draco sit between the two of us. Lucius will be seated next to you with Harry on the other side then Sirius by him so he's sandwiched between the two,” Remus said, looking at Severus. “I think that's safest. Between Sirius and Lucius, Harry shouldn't have a problem. Both of us can easily keep an eye on Draco.” Seeing Severus nod, he asked, tone bewildered, “What is going on there anyway? Something is seriously unnerving Lucius from the sound of his voice when he asked us to take on watching Draco.”
“No clue,” Severus admitted with a sigh, rubbing a hand over his face. He, too, was unnerved by whatever Lucius wasn't imparting. That told him it was something huge and would cause major problems. The worriment came in that he didn't know what in Merlin's name it might relate to. Thinking it over, the only thing that came to mind was that dratted potion. Though the confessing had stopped, he wasn't sure if there were any other issues coming from it as something was decidedly off. Draco wasn't the kind to cower and say nothing, no matter how humiliated. He was the sort that would lash out. As that wasn't happening, it meant something else was going on. And that told him they had to figure out what it was, fast, before it manifested and caused even more insanity than before. Things were somewhat calm and he wanted it to stay that way. Though he longed to find his happy place once again, that would not only involve a trip to the Alley, but he would end up sluggish from it when he needed to stay alert. No, he couldn't indulge as he was sure something huge was brewing. If that was the case, he needed to stay on his toes.
“I don't like this,” Remus admitted with a shake of his head. “And with us being out with Muggles, we can't do what we normally would with such bits. This might be a very bad idea, Severus.”
“It is, I admit that,” Severus sighed. “I think Lucius is trying to give Draco one night of enjoyment with something he hasn't encountered before. From what he said, Draco is going back to stay with his mother for the rest of the summer. While, on one hand, that's good and I understand why Lucius wants to partake. On the other, though, there is something really wrong and it's going to end up with us all drawn in yet again. That I don't like as I have no idea what it might relate to so we can keep an eye on any signs Draco may exhibit.”
“Oh, this is going to end up badly,” Remus breathed, shaking his head.
“It is,” Severus agreed. “We'll find a place in the theater that is in a corner or something, as far away as we can get from the Muggles. That way if something does happen, we might not risk being noticed.”
“I don't suppose tying him to the chair is in the offing,” Remus grumbled, wondering what they were about to invoke upon themselves.
“The Muggles would notice that then the authorities would end up involved,” Severus groused, shaking his head. “We'll find something. It just means we have to stay alert is all. Nothing more.”
“And hope like hell Sirius does as well,” Remus told him, slumping. Somehow, he was sure that this night was going to be a worse nightmare than most of what they had dealt with so far. He hoped he was wrong, but had a feeling he wasn't.
“That was a rather riotous expenditure of our time,” Lucius said after taking a drink of his brandy and sitting the snifter on the table. “I don't believe I've borne witness to anything that humorous in a long time.”
“It was good,” Sirius admitted with a nod and snicker.
“A good laugh is something that does help and that was one,” Remus said with a smile.
Though Severus tended to agree, as even he had enjoyed the comedy and was able to relax after he and Lupin stuck Draco to his chair when the younger Malfoy kept paying more attention to Potter than the film, his brow furrowed. Glancing around, he wondered where the Malfoy spawn had taken himself to. Potter, he knew, had gone to the loo. After those massive drinks they all partook in, that was understandable. Draco, though—he had been in the kitchen not moments ago. Now he was worried. “Where's Draco?” He asked, looking around.
“Right here,” Lucius started to say until he noticed his son had vanished. Eyes growing so wide they looked like they might fall out of their sockets, he glanced around. His son had vanished. That wasn't good. He knew what the issue was, of course, having gotten it out of his son before they left, thus the promise he elicited from Severus and Lupin. As it was only a couple days before Narcissa showed up, he thought he could handle whatever manifested from the side effects of that potion without letting anyone in on what the true issue was. Once Draco was gone from the house, they both thought that whatever was bringing this on would die down. At the very least, as he wouldn’t be around Harry, it couldn't manifest. Now, though—oh, Merlin's binding boxers, this wasn't good. “He was here a minute ago,” he then said, standing to go see if he could find his son before he pulled something that would allow the kneazle to romp out of the bag then make it clear to everyone just what the lasting effect of that potion was.
“What the hell is going on, Malfoy?” Sirius asked, eyes narrowed. Draco vanishing wasn't a big deal, he got that. Normally, it would be something like a trip to the loo that would cause it. The look of almost horror on Malfoy's face told him whatever might be coming from this wasn't good. And it was bound to set off his temper again.
“I'm not sure. It is probably something innocuous, of course, but I believe we should go check,” Lucius muttered, easing his way towards the door in hopes of finding his son before he pulled something very foolish that would set Black off in a way that he hadn't been pushed to so far.
Standing himself, looking concerned, Remus said, “Let's see what's going on.” He was sure that Draco vanishing meant nothing good.
“When we're done, you are telling us what is going on, Malfoy,” Sirius hissed, eyes narrowing. However, he was cut off from saying more, or even asking any questions, by what could only be termed a shriek of his name by Harry. That had him moving so fast in that direction he was almost a blur.
Hearing that, Lucius knew the worst had just happened and he was right on the tail of Black's robes. And that was more to save his son's life than anything else as he knew this wouldn't be good.
“I think, maybe, we are needed to help,” Remus stuttered heading after them. He hadn't ever heard Harry utter a sound like that in his life and was sure this wouldn't end well.
“Oh yes,” Severus said grimly, skirting around Lupin and heading in that direction at top speed.
Coming into the hallway that led to the loo, Sirius pulled up with a screeching halt, eyes bugging out at what he saw. He now understood what set Harry off. Draco had him tackled and pinned to the floor, trying to kiss him. With the way Draco was atop him, he had Harry's arms and legs pinned to the floor so his poor godson couldn't move. Yeah, alright, something wasn't right here! Snarling, the first thing he did was point his wand at the brat and got him off poor Harry. As expected, Harry was up and off the floor so fast you could practically see smoke trails, then he felt him slide behind him, almost crawling up his back.
Feeling Harry clinging to him, Sirius pointed his wand at Draco then pinned him to the wall, spread eagle. “What in the fuck is going on?” He snarled.
“He tackled me and tried to stuff his tongue down my throat!” Harry stammered, clinging to Sirius, peering over his shoulder.
Grinding his teeth, Sirius looked at the great pervert when he showed up then glanced at the flushed, stammering Draco, before saying, “Unless someone wants me to start hexing him, they better begin explaining what is going on. That and make it real fucking clear that Harry is off limits!”
“I need therapy, lots of therapy,” Harry muttered over and over, shaking his head as he trembled. “And a shower. I feel filthy.”
Looking at his son, whose eyes kept drifting to Potter, Lucius slumped. When he saw Severus and Lupin join them, their wands out as well, he admitted, “It appears whatever he brewed up affected him more than just with the confessions. We were hoping to hold off and say nothing until he left, assuming that it would end whatever this is. That appears like it's not something that will happen, though.” Giving his son a pitying look, knowing putting it out there would humiliate him all the more, Lucius then explained the obsession and how it was affecting him.
After hearing the explanation and Harry whimpering louder, feeling him cling tighter to him, muttering about finding a therapist, Sirius rubbed a hand over his face, groaning. “Oh, bloody fucking hell!” He moaned. “We do not need this, too!”
Looking up at the ceiling, shaking his head, Severus groaned. “Let me see what I can find, Lucius. Even if he leaves, the obsession won't end. In fact, if it's manifesting already, it's doubtful that anyone can force him to leave if it means being away from Potter.”
“You should have said something to us earlier, Lucius,” Remus sighed, wondering how they were going to fix this newest mess.
“We were hoping that we could manage to quell it slightly,” Lucius admitted, unsticking his son from the wall, looking dour as Draco kept glancing at Harry, whimpering softly as he did.
“Nothing is going to quell it on its own,” Severus snapped, glaring at him. “It'll just keep growing if it goes unchecked.”
Leveling his wand at Draco, Sirius snarled, “One more act like that and it's me you deal with. I get this is something that's coming from that foolish stunt you pulled, but hands off Harry! First, he doesn't want your attention and has made that clear. Second, you keep going you're probably going to end up invoking something from the bond. Then you'll have to deal with both me and your father. That you don't want. As we haven't dealt with anything like that yet, we have no idea what might come of it. It's not something you want to chance.”
“And he's paying my therapy bills,” Harry added, voice low enough that only Sirius could hear him.
Grinning a bit at that, Sirius told his obviously traumatized godson, “You'll be fine, don't worry. I'll stick to you as close as I can.”
“While Severus looks into what caused this and to see if he can find something to negate the effects, I say the rest of us start looking into spells to keep Draco away from Harry. You know the type, they use them for restraining orders,” Remus sighed. “I get this is unpleasant to ponder, but we don't want to set off anything worse than what's already going on. As he's already tried something with Harry, we need to get some protective measure in place as I can't see forcing him to stay confined to his room until we can discover a solution.”
Once more Lucius was pleased that Lupin was the sort to think of what his son was dealing with. “We need to, yes.” Putting a hand on the now softly whining Draco's shoulder, he told them all, “Let Severus see what he can do with something to reverse or quell this while the rest of us take on looking up a spell.” Seeing nods and an almost fearful look from Harry, he gave an internal sigh. Oh yes, this was a mess, that's for certain.
Once everyone started moving in the right direction, ignoring a dark look from Sirius, he held Draco back. When they were out of earshot, he said, “We need to come up with something to explain this debacle to your mother. If she gets wind of this mess, and just what was done, we're both in serious trouble. Even if we get it fixed, chances are that if she hears about it, we'll both be on the wrong end of her wand.”
All the color draining out of his face at the mere idea of what his mother would do to him for something like this, Draco gave a vigorous nod. “We do,” he said, voice decidedly squeaky. “The same with a viable reason that I want out of here so fast. She's going to think that's odd.”
“She is,” Lucius muttered, guiding his son towards the kitchen. “Which means we need to come up with something she won't question. What that may be I don't know, but we'll find something.”
Reaching up and digging his fingers into his hair, Draco began to whinge softly. Voice quite a bit higher than normal, he asked, “The confessions—did you get rid of them?” Those were something he never wanted his mother, or anyone else, to ever see. No, they would get in him more trouble than he would ever be able to get himself out of. Even his father wouldn't be able to manage that one.
“Yes,” Lucius told him in a resolute voice. “I vanished them myself.” With another sigh, he admitted, “However, we can't undo the fact that everyone heard what you said with some parts. Which means there will probably be fallout. Let me see what I can finagle to keep their mouths shut.” With that, Lucius was pondering what he could do to bribe everyone in the house within an inch of their lives.
Slumping as he walked, Draco hoped that the Professor could come up with something. This obsession—it had been there, he would admit it, the reason he just couldn't leave Potter alone, but he kept it under control. With how this was going, it was bound to get worse because he knew how he felt about the prat. Which meant, something needed to give! Fast! Before his mother came to get him.
