Draco was furious. He endured many things from his father, but he endured it all in stride. As his mother so often reminded him, his father couldn’t live forever and one day he would be in charge. And of course she liked to remind him that blood was thicker than water.
New alliances were made every day; those who were in power today easily became tomorrow’s traitors. One of the only lasting—and stable—families were the Malfoys. People flocked to his father’s side knowing that they were safe from the feuds and ridiculous purges that came in waves.
Because of this, Draco swallowed his pride and endured the daily humiliations meted out to him by his father.
But the demotion was too much.
Draco would not tolerate it any more. In a fit of rage he sent his closest servant to spy on his father, and almost immediately regretted it. It was dangerous. He may be his father’s son but his father was not the kind of person to handle betrayal well.
Draco was planning the best way to dispose of this servant before any news of his treachery became known, but the information his servant brought back to him was too good to simply give up.
‘Are you telling me that my father...has been spending less time torturing information out of the girl and instead been fucking her?’
His servant shrugged, ‘My sources tell me that while, ah, the mudblood is anything but willing your father goes to great lengths to ensure that her health is always in excellent condition. It seems she is less a prisoner and more of a plaything.’
Draco was reeling from this. His mood went from angry to delighted in an instant.
He felt like a little boy at Christmas.
Jumping he spun to face the servant, who already looked uneasy, ‘What else?’
‘Uh, er…it seems that the prisoner met with an accident of some kind. All that we know is that it occurred outdoors, and your father spent considerable effort reviving her. Her heart stopped beating and Lord Malfoy was observed to be in a visibly panicked state. He managed to revive her, and then he returned, with her, to her suite—‘
Draco’s mouth practically fell open, ‘Her suite?’
‘Yes. His Grace has taken great care in seeing that her every physical comfort is met. He does of course continue to question her regarding the location of the blood traitors.’
Draco slowly sat down. Even when his father made mistakes, he still seemed to make sure most of his tracks were covered.
If I can gain evidence of his betrayal...
‘So he is still doing half of what he claims to be doing. But he has never behaved so stupidly before. If our situations were reversed I am certain he would go to great lengths to kill her in a very violent, very public way. But no. He is seeing to her every comfort, all the while fucking her.’
He felt his jaw harden, No wonder he does not wish to hand her over. He is enjoying her himself.
Draco turned to the servant, ‘I want you to keep watching him. I want to know more about what goes on, in detail, between him and his little bitch.’
His servant bowed his head, and Draco stared moodily off into space.
He may be his father, but his mother was wrong about one thing: blood was not thicker than water.
