Molly’s letter arrived the next morning and Harry was thrilled! Not only was Tonks going to help them, so was Andromeda and Ted, her parents. Harry showed the letter to Draco while they ate.
“That’s my aunt, my mothers’ sister. She was disowned when she ran off with Ted because he was a Muggleborn and she broke a betrothal in the process.” Draco said when he saw the names.
“Really? So, you have never met them?” Harry asked as he sipped his juice.
“Nope. Mother wanted to, but with Him running around at the time, father wouldn’t have it.”
“Well, maybe you guys can start making amends?”
“Maybe. Mother would have better luck with that since it is her sister we’re talking about. I’ll write her and let her know that she is helping Mrs. Weasley.”
The day flew by. Harry noticed that those he knew were from old families, were starting to act differently around him. He knew that something was going to happen, either for good or bad, and he should be on his guard. Nothing happened that day or the next. It was the first of October before the tension that was building up finally snapped. Harry was sitting in the Quidditch stands watching his team practice. He had removed himself from the team because he felt it would look unfair and wanted to avoid any unnecessary drama. Besides, he knew that the other teams didn’t stand a chance against Draco. He was second best only to Harry. He was taking notes on the teams’ movements to give to Draco later when he saw a group walking towards them. There was no mistaking that red hair, Ron was leading them. Harry could make out Lavender Brown, Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Cormac McLaggen. The rest were students he didn’t know. The group totaled eight students. Harry sat calmly as they walked up to him. He could see the Slytherin team had stopped practicing and were slowly flying towards the group.
“Hello Harry.” Ron said, a smile creeping onto his face.
“Ron, what do you want?” Harry asked. He kept his mask up. He didn’t want the group to see the sadness in his eyes or the disappointment. Some of them had been his friends and it hurt that they were turning on him.
“What we want is for you to step down. To stop what you are doing and return to you place in Gryffindor Tower.”
“Not gonna happen.”
“Oh really?” Harry didn’t see the small girl in the back move. He did hear her whisper the Imperio curse though. He felt her trying to force her will on him.
‘He forgot I can fight this.’ Harry thought as he felt the curse trying to take over. He closed his eyes and, with a push of his magic, was free.
“You forget, Ron, that I can throw that curse off like a cloak.”
Rage over took Ron’s face right before he lunged at Harry. Harry and Ron hit the ground, hard. Harry fought hard to keep Ron from breaking his nose. They were about the same height now, so Ron had little advantage over Harry. They rolled and punched, the group Ron brought tried to help him, but the Slytherins’ on the pitch stopped them. It was a full-on brawl when the professors arrived. It took several of them to stop it, pinning students to the stand seats as they were separated. The last to be pulled apart were Ron and Harry. Everyone had blood and bruises littering their bodies. Harry knew that his eye was going to swell shut and that his lip was split wide open. He managed to bust Ron’s nose.
“What is the meaning of this?” McGonagall asked.
“Weasley had one of his lackeys try and Imperio Harry.” Draco stated.
“Oh, please, Mister Malfoy,”
“It’s true. I’ll show you the memories.” Harry interrupted.
“Really now Potter! Why would your friend,”
“He hasn’t been my friend in over a year.”
“He’s lying! We just came to talk and see if he wouldn’t reconsider his resorting” Ron stated.
“Yeah, besides, everyone knows Potter is a liar.” McLaggen added.
“I’ll take Verserium if I have to. Plus, there are multiple witnesses. What do you say Professor Snape?” Harry asked.
He could have sworn he saw Snape trying to fight a smile as he pulled out the familiar little vile. He gave Harry a few drops and questioned him. When all his answers matched his original statement, the rest of the staff were left dumbfounded. What would possess students to do such things?
“Well, looks like we have to take them all to Albus.” McGonagall stated as she started to unstick students.
“No need. I know what he will do and the punishment will not fit the crime.”
“What are you on about Potter?”
Harry smiled, “They are all expelled for planning the use of an illegal curse on a fellow student and for attempting to use that curse on school grounds.”
One could hear a pin drop.
“Their heads of house are to write their parents and they are to be removed from school grounds as soon as possible. In the case of Mister Weasley, since he organized all of this, he is to be turned over to the Ministry immediately.”
“Don’t you think that is a bit harsh Lord Potter?” McGonagall asked. She knew he was speaking with the full authority being the Heir gave him.
“No. I vowed that I would protect every single person who lived behind these walls. These students are clearly a threat to everyone who lives here. If it is found out that they were cursed themselves, they can return here on probationary terms.”
They all stared at him, not truly believing that he had just expelled eight students, one of which could be going to prison.
“As you wish Lord Potter.” Snape said with a little bow. That was all that was needed for the students’ head of house to round them all up and escort them to the Hospital Wing. Poppy patched everyone up and the students that were being expelled were lead to their head of house’s office to wait for their parents.
“Well done Harry. You made a smart choice and kept your word at the same time. When this gets around school, you may win over more people than you think.” Draco said as he and Harry walked to the dungeon. The team was already there and Harry wanted them to have the full story. He was going to tell Hermione, Ginny, Luna, and Neville what happened at dinner time. When they entered the dorm room, all talking stopped. With a sigh, Harry sat down and told them what had happened. He watched as most of the older students and a few of the younger, grinned in satisfaction.
‘Looks like I just proved I really am one of them.’ Harry thought. He leaned his head back and closed his eyes. Before he knew it, he was asleep. Draco woke him when dinner rolled around.
“I have a list of Slytherins who want to meet with you later.” Draco said as they walked into the Great Hall. Harry looked up and saw Dumbledore glaring at him. Harry could care less. He walked over to Gryffindor table and he and Draco sat down with Hermione and Ginny. Neville and Luna joined them next and Harry retold the story from that afternoon.
“Good lord Harry! Molly is going to pitch a fit!” Hermione stated.
“Ron may be disowned, but he is still her child. Her heart is going to break all over again.” Hermione looked so heartbroken for Molly.
“I know, but it was the right thing to do. They made themselves my enemy when they tried to curse me.” Harry said.
“I know. Doesn’t make this any easier.” Ginny added. She was going to write her mother that night.
“The press is going to have a field day when this gets out.” Neville stated causing Harry to groan. That was the last thing he needed right now.
“So, what are you going as for the masquerade?” Harry asked trying to change the subject. That morning it had been announced that the Halloween Ball would be a masquerade. With a sigh, Harry listened as his friends jumped into the topic. He would deal with the crazy later. Right now he wanted to enjoy the calm before the storm that was his life.
And the plot thickens! What is going to happen now that Dumbledore's new savior is going away? *Dramatic music*
