Chapter 28
--
“No…how? Oh Arthur,”
McGonagall said, hand raising to her mouth.
“He used his shirt to hang himself. The wardens found him a few hours ago,”
Tonks gasped out.
“And Percy?”
“He…he used his finger nails to…his wrists…”
“Oh, oh god.”
“You see? We cannot
let this go on! He’s still destroying
lives!”
“Alistor, we have no choice. He’ll destroy us, all of us, if we try to stand against him. The best we can do is try and exist in
whatever world he creates,” McGonagall said quietly.
“The vote, then.
I’ll not change my opinion just to save my own skin!”
“Very well. All in
favor of opposition?”
Only a scant few ‘aye’s were heard, Moody’s amongst
them. McGonagall looked relieved, and
Moody looked furious. He made a mental
note of who had agreed with him. He’d
talk to them later.
--
The Three Broomsticks was in an uproar. News of Arthur’s and Percy’s deaths had
spread like wildfire. Some people
blamed Raithos and Draco. Others blamed
the Weasleys themselves, and still others blamed Dumbledore. Many people did not know what to think, now
that so much information had come to light.
Between Dumbledore’s confession, and the public appearances of The Dark
Lord and Prince, along with the Malfoy’s, they didn’t know what to think. It was as if their whole world was turned
upside down, and good was evil and evil was good.
Oliver Wood was lon thn thought. He and his friends had
honestly been trying to keep a low profile over the past few years, since
they’d finished Hogwarts. They’d all
known Harry, some better than others, and they all had a hard time believing he
was an evil Dark Lord in training.
They’d watched silently as the articles about him had progressively
become more positive. They’d watched as
Harry had seemingly turned the Dark Lord to good. They’d watched as Dumbledore, their former mentor, had been
exposed for what he truly was. And now
it was time to make a decision.
Alistor Moody had contacted Wood earlier that day. He’d asked what his stance was on the Dark
Prince issue, and told him his help would be greatly appreciated if he would
give it. Wood had immediately called
his three best friends. Angelina,
Katie, and Alicia had just arrived a few minutes ago. They were only waiting for Cho, Wood’s girlfriend.
“I can’t believe Percy went and offed himself,” Alicia said
quietly. “For that matter, I can’t
believe the entire Weasley family wound up in Azkaban.”
“They did try to kill two people, Alicia,” Katie pointed
out.
“And the Dark Prince hasn’t killed anyone? What about Hermione? That Creevey kid? Or Dean Thomas?” Alicia spit back.
“I know, but…from what it said in the papers, there was
reason for all of that.es"> Even Neville…”
“Bullshit. You can’t
just go around killing people!” Alicia said, her anger rising steadily.
“Alicia, I just can’t picture Harry killing people out of
cold blood. We all knew him. Some of up knew him pretty damn well. Can you honestly say you believe all of
that? You know that in the beginning
the press was just trying to pain him as badly as possible. Maybe the over-exaggerated things,” Wood
said gently.
Cho walked up then, holding a copy of the Prophet.
“Have you seen this?” she asked, putting the paper down in
the middle of the table. It was a
special edition article on Arthur and Percy Weasley.
“We were just talking about it,” Angelina responded.
“Listen, everyone.
Moody called me earlier, about a pretty sensitive subject. He wants to put together a last resistance
against the Dark Prince. He wants to
know if we’re in,” Wood said quietly, not wishing anyone else to overhear their
conversation.
“Are you mad?” Cho hissed.
“He’ll eradicate us all!”
“I don’t care!
Someone has to do something. He
can’t just go on like this,” Alicia hissed right back.
“Why do you hate him so much, Alicia?” Angelina asked
quietly. “Other than what you’ve
mentioned already, what’s he done wrong?
They’re making changes. And not
all of them are bad. They exposed
Dumbledore for what he was. I heard
they’re restructuring Hogwarts as well.”
“There’s nothing wrong with Hogwarts! And you call discriminating against
muggle-borns not bad?” Alicia’s voice was steadily raising and people were
starting to glance in their direction.
“Alicia, shh! We
don’t need people overhearing this!” Angelina said softly. “And there was a lot of stuff wrong with
Hogwarts. Don’t you remember Hagrid’s
classes? He wasn’t qualified to be any
sort of teacher and we all know it. And
all the troubles with the DADA professors!
Death Eaters and You-Know-Who!
And as for muggle-borns…well…we all know that they do dilute the
magic. They are all weaker than us,
whose families have been around for a long time. Yes, the bloodlines need to be freshened every so often, but its
getting a bit ridiculous.”
“That’s really true?” Katie asked.
“The blood strength?
Yes. See Alicia? So many people don’t even know that stuff
anymore! And it’s important!”
“I don’t care! I’m
not standing for this. I’m going with
Moody,” Alicia said, standing. Angelina
and Katie tried to protest. Wood just
sat there, not knowing what to do.
Personally he agreed with Angelina.
Things weren’t exactly bad right now.
He was startled out of his thoughts as Cho stood.
“I’m going with you.”
“Cho, no,” Wood pleaded.
“You can’t.”
“I don’t care Ollie, I have to.”
Alicia’s eyes gleamed.
“Let’s go then.”
--
Alicia and Cho met up later that day with Moody and the other
Order members willing to make a last d.
--
Severus Snape was giving a press conference. He’d just finished a meeting with the
governors of Hogwarts, going over the new procedures and rules. The day before, he’d had a meeting with the
Dark Lord, Raithos, Draco, and Lucius, where they’d come up with the new
rules. And now they were being revealed
to all.
“Entrance exams will be required by all students wishing to
attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. These exams will measure the magical potential of each student,
and those not passing the required level will be turned down. They may attend another school if they
wish.”
“Headmaster, what is the reasoning behind this new rule?” a
reporter asked.
Snape smiled. “These
entrance exams will keep those students with weak magical blood out of
Hogwarts. As we all know, it is the
magic in our blood that keeps us strong.
Weak blood weakens our power, and if we do not take steps to keep the
bloodlines strong, we will one day become extinct.”
Another reporter shouted above the din, “What about
professors? The former Headmaster had
well publicized problems picking and keeping professors.”
“Hogwarts will only accept the most qualified
professors. They must have decent
teaching experience at another magical school, as well as certaing NEWT
scores. We will not be accepting the
types of professors Albus Dumbledore was only too happy to employ. These children are our future and deserve
only the best,” Snape replied. This
really was too easy, the reporters were playing right into his hand.
“Further more, a second school is being erected in
Britain. As you know, this world has
had quite a problem with muggle-born students.
They come into our world with no knowledge of our culture, our
traditions, our history. Every magical
child born is recorded, regardless of where they are born. The Minister has decreed that the parents of
such a child will have a choice to give up that child to the wizarding world at
birth. Should they refuse, their child
will not be accepted into Hogwarts, no matter their potential. They will be sent the new school, where they
will be taught about our world.”
“What are you going to do about muggle-borns who return to
the muggle world after education?”
“Those that return to the muggle world risk exposing our
world. Therefore, the Minister has
decreed that they shall be stripped of their magic and their minds
obliviated. During the reign of Albus
Dumbledore, more muggles have discovered the wizard world than in any period in
history. Including the Salem witch
trials in America. This cannot
continue. The exposure of our world to
the muggle world could be our downfall, and will be prevented at all costs.”
“The last point has to do with separation of houses. We shall have enough teachers at Hogwarts in
the future to give the students the attention they need. Albus Dumbledore forced rival houses to take
classes together. The result was,
instead of learning, the students spent their time playing pranks and worrying
about their classmates. Occasionally
the houses will be put together, but that will bet att at a minimum. Another reason for this is that each house
requires special guidance. As you all
know, Slytherin house tends to be full of pureblooded families. The traditions and histories of these
families will be taught to the members of Slytherin. While the members of other houses will have their own unique
classes designed for their benefit.”
A reporter from the Prophet stepped forward. “Headmaster, where did these ideas come
from?”
Snape smiled. The
question he’d been waiting for.
“The Dark Lord and his Son of course. They only want what is best for this world.”
--
“Do you think we should go?”
“They can’t hurt us, Raith.
We can go if we want. I suppose
it would help, having more of them on our side publicly,” Draco responded. There cre currently instructing the house
elves on what to pack for their return trip to Hogwarts. The new Hogwarts. The changes they’d outlined to Snape were to
take place immediately following Christmas hols, with exams commencing on the
first day of class after the New Year.
Anyone found lacking in potential or ability was to be transferred
immediately. Muggle-borns would be
given the choice to return to their homes, obliviated of course, along with
their families.
“I know they can’t, I’m just not sure I want to put up with
their groveling. That’s what they’ll do
you know. Grovel. Like simpering puppies begging for scraps,”
Raithos said darkly. He’d known from
the moment he’d received the owl from McGonagall that they’d changed their
official stance on him and his father.
“Hmm…just like they should,” Draco said, voice dripping with
superiority. “Don’t worry love, they’ll
get theirs. You know, all the professors
except Severus are in the Order. I
wonder if they’ll still support you if they get sacked. You know some of them are.”
Raithos snickered.
“Yeah, like Trelawney. She’ll be
the first to go. Too bad Hagrid isn’t
still around, it’d be fun to kick him to the curb as well. Who else do you think will go?”
Draco thought for a second.
“Believe it or not, Pomfrey.
Maybe. She was too much a pawn
in Dumbledore’s game. She might not be
able to be trusted. I suppose Sev will
be asking your opinion on that one too.”
“Yeah. Its so much
fun holding the lives of so many in the palm of my hand,” Raithos sighed.
“Glad to see the power isn’t going to your head,” Draco said
sarcastically.
“Oh, it’s going to my head, just not that head.”

A/N: Just wanted to
say some thank you’s to the people who’ve reviewed thus far.
Starlit Rena: Thank
you for your multiple reviews! It’s so
nice to know people keep coming back for more.
I totally agree with you about most Dark!Harry fics. It seems there’s so little background as to
why he goes dark. I based this off the
five books so far, and used them to warp Harry into Raithos. I’m glad I did a decent job of it.
Sati: Raithos’
full name is Raithos Marvolo Voldemort.
Alex: Thank
you! Yes, the Gryffs will be the losers
in this story, and don’t worry about the English. It’s quite alright.
Wonapalei:
Thanks! I’ve had other people
suggest archiving on 4f.net, I probably will at some point. As for the yahoo group…I’ve been thinking
about that. I may wait until I have
written a few more fics, just to see if I really have a following or if this is
all beginners luck.
Crazy_Girl_3000:
What is your name on ff.net? Is
it the same? I always love reading new
Dark!Harry stories.
Estrashtia: You
crack me up! BTW, I am a woman, and I
have to say my hubby gets quite a kick out of the marriage proposals. Personally, I love them. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. I’m not in any way familiar with
Gundam-Wing. Would I have to be to make
sense of a story in that fandom? And
yes, Peter Anspach rocks.
Kage: Thank
you for being a repeat reviewer. I love
those ones the best. It’s like you are
all my own little group of friends:)
Keikokin:
Wow! I have to say I’m fairly
new to aff.net, but I know your name!
If aff.net had a favorite author list, you’d be on it. See what you did? I’m blushing!
Thank you to everyone else who reviewed, and to all those
who followed me faithfully from ff.net when they kicked off my story. You guys rock.
