Chapter 26: Hermione’s Curse
“Mr. Potter, please
come in,” Professor McGonagall said when Harry opened the door.
Harry stepped into her office and sat down.
“What is wrong now?”
he asked.
She studied him for a moment and then dived in.
“The Headmaster has
banned you from the Gryffindor Quidditch team,” she told him.
He stared at her and then laughed.
“That’s funny,
Professor,” Harry said.
She glared at him.
“I’m not laughing,
Mr. Potter,” she said sternly. “You have insulted us for too long. Lily wants
you banned because you’re displaying behavior that she doesn’t approve of.
Since she’s alive, she has the right to decide this.”
Harry stopped laughing and glared at her.
“I didn’t do
anything wrong?” he roared.
“Yes, you did,” she
countered. “You made us look bad and gave her the impression that we’ve taught
you nothing. I can’t have that shame in my house.”
Harry went red.
“You’re only saying
that because of her fame.”
McGonagall jumped to her feet and stared at him.
“I’m not doing it
because of her I’m doing it because she’s right.”
“Right about what,”
Harry snapped.
“Right
about you being just like your father.”

A tall
witch walked past the rows of shops that lined Hogsmead. She had had a strange
dream about a girl that had wizard powers and now it was taking her here. She
had hoped that she had been wrong but she had always had this gift and it had
never lied to her. She waved her spell making sure that it directed her where she
needed to be and not make her accidentally go past the place she needed to be.
Finally she stopped in front of a shop that looked like soon it would be
selling potions. She knocked and waited.
The door
opened to reveal a girl that looked like she was in her final year at Hogwarts,
but why she wasn’t there she didn’t know. She smiled politely at her and
noticed that she looked as though she had just woken up. Her magic at once told
her that she had found the right person.
“Hello, Miss-.”
“Mrs. Snape,” the
girl corrected.
The woman looked shocked but hid it well.
“Mrs. Snape, can I
come in I believe that I’ve got something important to tell you.”
Mrs. Snape looked at her but let her in.
The store was neat and clean, which
told her that the witch was a neat freak. Of course in potion selling that was
a good thing. Mrs. Snape looked at her and she noticed that she was sizing her
up, like someone that didn’t trust a lot of people.
“What do you want?” she asked coldly.
“Let me first introduce myself,” the witch
said. “I’m Alice Darkheart and I had a dream that your daughter would be born a
wizard. It is my job to inform you that this child shall have these powers.”
Mrs. Snape looked at
her and laughed, which surprised her.
“And what do you find so funny?”
Mrs. Snape stopped
laughing and gave her a deadly look.
“There is no such thing as a female wizard,”
she stated firmly. “As for dreams telling you all this I’m not interested in
dreams. So take your stupid words and leave. My daughter will be born a witch
and that’s final.”
Alice
glared at her.
“My words aren’t stupid, Mrs. Snape,” she
said. “And you will learn soon enough that what I speak is true.”
And she left before
the young witch could hit her with something.

Hermione was glad when Alice
Darkheart left, but her words hadn’t left. She had laughed at her when she told
her that her daughter would be born a wizard and not a witch. Her mind told her
that there was no way that this could happen but her instincts were telling her
a different story. Hermione just didn’t know which one to trust.
