“You didn’t even make it one day,” Snape growled as he stalked forward, studiously ignoring a gaping McGonagall and Harry.
Hermione and Draco both hit their knees at the anger radiating from their Master. He had every right to be pissed. They’d royally fucked things up and now they had probably jeopardized their one glimmering chance at a real future.
“We’re sorry,” Hermione whimpered, lowering her head to try and mask the sudden tears.
The thought of failing still cut like a knife. That was why she had started drinking and smoking and doing drugs, to escape the pressure and the pain. If she were high now, this wouldn’t hurt so badly. She was also concerned that Snape was about to take their collars. Snape had the power to end their arrangement at any time. Would this be enough to push him over?
“Hermione, you will look at me,” Snape ordered.
She blinked hard, letting the tears in her eyes fall to the ground before looking at her Master. He was still angry but there was a hint of concern in his eyes.
“You consider this a failure.”
She nodded even though it wasn’t a question. She couldn’t help it. Snape had given her a glimmer of hope past fucking Malfoy and getting high to dull the pain. Not that she didn’t like fucking Malfoy. She just wanted there to be more to her life. Dating Ron, being the good girl, doing what was expected, those were all sucking the life out of her. For the first time, she felt alive. And now it was crumbling before her eyes.
“Tell me,” Snape drawled. “Did you intend for Skeeter to publish a grossly skewed article about your relationship with Draco?”
“No Master,” she whispered.
“And did you tell anyone about me?”
“No Master.”
“Then there is no failure.”
She shook her head. “You’re taking my collar.”
“To protect you,” Snape said, fingering her neck. “And Draco.”
Hermione looked over to see Draco nearly trembling as he stared at the floor. She knew he was feeling the same way. He hated failing, despite the attitude he put on in front of others.
“I will not leave you unclaimed,” Snape finally said after Draco looked at him blankly. “It is a nuisance to have to deal with this so quickly, but I suppose things don’t always go according to plan. Still…”
He quirked a brow and both she and Draco had to laugh. That was certainly the truth. Their trip to the dragon reserve was proof of that.
“You’re alive,” Harry finally said.
Hermione blinked and looked over at her friend. He was white as a sheet and shaking, probably on the verge of passing out from utter shock. The fact that he could speak was a testament to his stubborn nature. McGonagall looked less shocked, more than likely because she’d already pieced everything together.
Snape scoffed and spun. “As I said before, Potter, not quite. Now do be quiet so I can finish this.”
“What exactly are you planning to do, Severus,” McGonagall asked curtly.
Snape sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. “Despite what you think, Minerva, they pledged themselves to me of their own free will. They are of age and you have no say in their personal matters. For the moment, I am planning to make Skeeter pay. Does that please you?”
McGonagall sniffed. “You know it does, Severus. But that is not what I meant and you know it.”
Severus gave her a nod of acknowledgment. “I suppose you’ll just have to watch and see.”
He spun and looked over his pets. “Draco, please rise.”
“Yes Master,” Draco said softly, getting to his feet with his head lowered.
“How is your leg?”
Draco raised his head and smirked before hopping on it. “Good as new, Master.”
Snape nodded. “Do you wish to show your gratitude?”
Draco bit his lip in thought, his eyes flicking back towards McGonagall and then to his Master. “Not in present company.”
Snape chuckled. “Perhaps a preview.”
Draco took a deep breath and leaned forward, pressing his lips to Snape’s. It was hot, passionate, and over much too quickly.
Snape hummed. “I shall look forward to Friday.”
“Yes Master,” Draco said, trying to slow his breathing.
Snape caressed his neck and then unsnapped the collar with a crook of his fingers. Hermione studied the fang marks still on Draco’s neck. They were sealed over but quite purple. How could he hide that? Snape bit his thumb and then brushed a tiny bit of blood over the marks before muttering a spell. The marks faded to two tiny scars. Then he licked the excess blood away before placing a small kiss over the scars.
“That should do,” Snape said.
He pocketed the black studded collar and took out a thick gold necklace. It looked a bit like a watch band, but the links were decorated with tiny swirls and lines. Runes. There was a larger link in the middle, just like the charm he’d added to the studded collar. He placed it on Draco’s neck and nodded.
“It covers the marks but you may use a glamour on them if you wish. Would you like to see it?”
Draco nodded and Snape motioned for him to look in the dressing mirror. Draco hurried over, gasping at the sight. It looked amazing, like a piece of finely crafted decorative jewelry rather than a mark of ownership.
“It’s beautiful,” Draco breathed, looking back at Snape with shining eyes. “Thank you Master.”
Snape nodded. “That is just for show, same enchantments as before. When we are alone, you will still wear the other.”
Draco nodded and hurried back across the room, giving Snape another heated kiss.
Snape pulled back and chuckled, petting Draco’s hair. “Kneel.” Draco hit his knees sharply. “Good pet. Now you, Hermione. Rise.”
Hermione did as she was told, giving him a brief peck on the lips before she lowered her head and studied the floor with intensity. She was highly embarrassed at having to do this in front of Harry and McGonagall, but Snape was her Master. She had to obey him. Besides, if she were honest with herself, this was quite the thrill.
“How are your wounds?”
“Perfect,” she said quietly.
“Somehow I doubt that,” Snape said. His hand reached toward her hip.
“Well, it’s not the same,” she hedged. “But it doesn’t hurt.”
Snape hummed and then pulled the hem of Draco’s shirt up just enough to expose the new skin. He ignored the twin gasps and caressed it, studying it with intense eyes and a gentle hand. She shivered at his touch but remained still. If he wanted her to strip and parade around the room, she would.
“Well,” Snape said after a moment. “It’ll have to do.” He dropped the shirt. “I do have to compliment you on your choice of attire. It suits you.”
She blushed and cleared her throat. “It was all I could find.”
“There is something to say about a woman wearing a man’s shirt,” Snape drawled, gently caressing the buttons before he reached up and took her collar off. “This might sting.”
She hissed when he grazed his fangs over her neck and then melted when he licked over the wounds. As he had done with Draco, he pierced his thumb and spread some of the blood over her neck before mumbling a spell. Then he licked the excess up and caressed her for a second.
“Much better.”
“His didn’t hurt,” she said moodily.
Snape chuckled. “He didn’t have two bite marks.”
She colored instantly, clenching her thighs together when she remembered Draco biting down on her neck the night before. She never thought she’d get off on biting, but apparently she was quite amenable. Snape leaned in and kissed her neck before pocketing her collar.
“This,” he said, pulling out something sparkly. “Is for you.”
She gasped at the beautiful gold choker. Its wide band had several runes engraved in it and a sparkling clear crystal on each link. She stayed stock still as he put it on her and tapped the charm in the middle. Then he smirked and held his hand out toward the mirror. She dashed to see it, marveling at how much like an actual necklace it was. But there was the feeling of ownership as well, like she got when she wore the leather collar.
“It’s gorgeous,” she whispered before practically running into his arms and snogging the life out of him.
He gently pushed her away, indigo sparkling in the black depths of his eyes. “Kneel.”
She obeyed shakily. Draco reached out and grabbed her hand, squeezing it. He must have felt it, too. This was a much larger gesture than simply changing the look of their collars. He could have simply removed the old ones or even put another charm on them to make them disappear. There were charms that fooled photographs. These new collars also had runes embedded in them, a deeper level of protection than simply having spells woven into them. No doubt they had those as well.
“Such good pets,” Snape purred, gently running his hands through their hair.
“That’s disgusting,” Harry growled, finally getting his bearings back. “They’re human beings.”
“I never said they weren’t,” Snape growled. “But they consented to this, Potter.”
“Why?” Harry asked, anguish and heartbreak clear in his voice.
“To keep them from self-destructing,” McGonagall whispered. “How did you know, Severus?”
Snape gave Hermione and Draco each a soft kiss on the crown of their heads before turning to fully face the other occupants of the room. “I witnessed it.”
“When?” McGonagall asked with a frown.
“Over the Christmas holiday. They very nearly destroyed themselves. ” Snape said as if he were discussing the weather.
“How?” Harry whispered. “How did we not notice?”
“That would be me again,” Snape drawled. “I took them home when they finally collapsed night after night. They’ve been sustaining on muggle sprits, hallucinogens, and each other. Though I must say that they are quite adept at covering their tracks… until today.”
Hermione and Draco cringed at the flat tone coming from their Master. They had always thought that they’d managed to make it back to their homes by themselves. It figured that Snape would have had a hand in it. Even when there was no agreement between them, he was still looking out for them. Another debt. Friday was quickly becoming a day she wished she could skip. There was no way he was letting them escape this without punishment.
Snape chuckled. “Yes, my pets. That means that you have another punishment. And somehow, you’ve managed another reward.”
“How?” Hermione blurted out before she could think better of it.
“You met your requirement to Robert,” Snape said quietly. “And have saved me from the rather annoying task of reclaiming you. That is worthy of a reward in and of itself. But it does not cancel out, so no pulling a fast one.”
“Yes, Master,” she murmured.
“Robert?” Harry asked.
Snape sighed. “You’ve always been insufferably curious, Potter. Robert is a contact for our budding partnership. And yes, it is real, despite our relationship. Now, as entertaining as this has been, I really do have things I need to tend to. I trust that neither one of you will breathe a word of this to the press?”
“Of course,” McGonagall said, still in a bit of shock at seeing her old colleague. “But Severus, you must tell us how you survived.”
“Not by choice,” Snape said darkly, spinning to help his pets off the ground.
He gave each of them a kiss and a small nip on the lips, which they didn’t mind in the least. The small spark of pleasure was more than worth the tinge of coppery blood.
“Snape… Professor Snape,” Harry said softly. “Please. I have to know.”
“Why?” Snape growled, spinning. “What good would it possibly do?”
Harry gulped and studied the floor. “You… I doubted you. And I shouldn’t have. I… I still have your memories… if you want them.”
“I have no need of them now,” Snape said. “In fact, I’m rather glad that they are mere shadows in my mind. But you will not show them to anyone else.”
“No!” Harry said, wide eyed. “Never!”
Snape nodded. “I must be going.”
“Please?” Harry whispered. “I… I saw you die, Sir. You… you quit breathing in my arms.”
Snape visibly sagged. “Breathing is a mere reflexive action now, Potter.”
“What do you mean?” McGonagall cut in, moving closer.
Snape flicked his hand, making the torches on the wall flare brighter. Then he bared his fangs and let his eyes glow. Harry and McGonagall both jumped back in shock.
“You’re a vampire,” Harry squeaked.
Snape nodded. “It wasn’t by choice. But now you see why absolutely no one must know.” He gazed at his pets, a peculiar look in his eye. “They’ll destroy them if they knew.”
“You… you aren’t like… Dracula, right?” Harry asked warily.
Snape scoffed. “Merlin, no. How you passed Defense Against the Dark Arts, I’ll never know.”
“So why would they destroy Hermione and Malfoy if they knew?”
“Vampires are very adept at mind control,” McGonagall cut across. “They can enthrall a victim into doing whatever they want, like a puppet. It’s frowned upon and feared by most.”
“Is that what you’ve done?” Harry asked sharply.
“No,” Snape growled. “They spent four aggravating months away from me discussing my proposal. I can only influence them if I maintain contact, which I have no wish to do. I know what it is like to be a puppet, Potter. I have no wish to inflict that on others.”
Harry gulped and nodded. “But the wizarding world wouldn’t understand that.”
“Precisely,” Snape growled.
“I’ll keep the secret,” Harry said, his eyes sharpening and staring straight at Hermione. “But I demand a full interrogation later.”
“Of course, Harry,” Hermione said, stopping and shooting Snape a questioning look. “If you’re okay with it, Master?”
Snape waved her off. “Whatever you feel comfortable telling him, so long as he keeps his mouth shut.”
Harry nodded and then walked over and gave her a hug. “I don’t know why you never told me, Hermione. But we’re long overdue for a talk.”
He walked out, closing the door behind him. McGonagall studied Snape for a long time before sighing. “Oh very well. You know I want to see them succeed and if Albus is supportive, then I have no choice but to abide by his wishes. But I expect your next escapade to be announced.”
“Yes, Headmistress,” Hermione and Draco recited obediently.
McGonagall sniffed. “Well, I’ll give you one thing, Severus. I like how you’ve brought them to heel… if only in your presence. But if they aren’t down for breakfast in five minutes, I’m expelling them.”
Snape smirked as McGonagall stalked out. It turned to a scowl when they were alone. “I do not like that they know.”
“We’re sorry,” Hermione pleaded but was cut off by a wave of his hand.
“I didn’t say that it wouldn’t be beneficial. You’ll have two alibies now… and more fuel to debunk that miserable excuse for an article in the Prophet. Immoral rituals indeed. Why the wizarding world is so hung up on sexual deviance is a mystery to me. Now, I really do have to go.”
“Why?” Draco asked, puffing his lips out in a ridiculously adorable pout.
Snape smirked and nipped his lips, making Draco’s eyes glaze for a second. “Because I’ve been contacting individuals to set up trades since I put you two to bed. Now get dressed and get to breakfast. You’re both horribly low on iron.”
“Our clothes?” Hermione asked.
Snape eyed her. “But you look so fabulous in that.”
She mimicked Draco’s pout. “Please?”
Snape nipped her lips, causing a flare of pleasure to pulse through her veins. She was sure she had the same glazed look that Draco did a second ago. She could get used to that.
“Your clothes are in the loo, neatly pressed and folded. Good bye my pets. Do try to behave while I am gone.” They both hissed when he sent them a mild pulse of pain through their marks. “I would hate to get a letter from the Headmistress asking me to come control my slaves.”
“Oh Merlin,” Draco groaned. “She’d do it to.”
Snape smirked and kissed them both again. “I’m liking the arrangement a bit more now. Be good.”
Before they could respond, he stepped out of the room and disappeared.
