Sirius
I woke the next morning to James shaking me awake, I had sneaked in back the dorm the night before unnoticed by anyone. ‘you’ll be late for breakfast if you don’t get up now’ he said. We made it down for breakfast just in time, seen as most students were leaving with the Hogwarts express, it was a noisy affair. I did notice the Slytherins coming in the great hall, I was searching for one person in particular. I had seen how much the punishment of Peter had affected Lex, and I wanted to see that she was fine, seen as she had spent the night in Narcissa’s dorm I was sure she would enter with the rest of Slytherin house. I almost did a double take when she walked in with my brother and Snape, the later having his arm slung over her shoulders. I saw her scanning our table, her eyes finally coming to rest on mine she gave a tense smile before stepping out of Snape’s arms and walking to the Ravenclaw table to sit with Mary. James and Remus had been watching me the entire time, and had noticed my reaction to Lex and Snape’s entrance. They had looked way too comfortable with one another. James disrupted my thoughts ‘Hey, you get to spend the full two weeks with her on an exotic island, no Snape anywhere near.’ James and Remus were both going to stay at school for the holidays, they had made some plans, seen as the full moon was next week. They kept my mind of Lex for the remainder of the meal. We were halfway through breakfast when Filch dragged in Peter, who was still completely naked, and holding on to his bottle of firewhiskey. Most of the students were laughing, but Dumbledore was not as amused. McGonagall immediately conjured up a bathrobe so Peter was covered. James and Remus looked shocked, and I did my very best to mirror their expression. Peter was escorted out of the great hall by Dumbledore and McGonagall. ‘What do you suppose happened?’ James asked, Remus shrugged ‘he’s not been up to anything good lately.’ He said. James looked like Christmas had come early ‘maybe I could grab the cloak and the map, so we can follow them?’ he asked. I shook my head ‘Nah, I have to pack my stuff and get to Hogsmade, we cant miss the portkey.’ James looked at Remus expectantly, but he also shook his head ‘We shouldn’t’ he said. When we got back to the tower, I grabbed the last of my things, but them in my schoolbag, and shrunk it so it would fit in my pocket. James had taken out his map, and swore ‘They are in the headmaster’s office, no way in there.’ I was ready to leave, so I turned to look at him. ‘Let me know when you find out more’ I told him. As an afterthought I added ‘hold a Christmas party in the common room, I heard Evans is staying here, you might be able to persuade her to go with you.’
Remus approached me ‘have a good trip’ he said. I snorted, it was such a sensible thing to say. ‘Yeah, good luck in wooing Zabini.’ James added. I winked at them ‘I’ve got that covered’ I told them before leaving.
I had agreed to meet with the others that were invited to the engagement week at the Hogsmade station, so they got the chance to say goodbye to their friends before leaving. When I arrived, the train was about to leave. I spotted Andromeda as far away as possible from the rest of the group. ‘You seem to look forward to this’ I told her. She made a grimace at me, I knew she wasn’t looking forward to it, her mother had paired her with Goyle for the main event, which would be the gala at the end of the week. I wouldn’t be happy either. ‘You could always stay here’ I tried. ‘My father would drag me to Cayman before you can say quidditch’ she told me.
I scanned the platform, because I couldn’t see Lex anywhere near the group that had gathered. I found her on the other side of the platform, of course she would be talking to Snape. When the whistle sounded for the train to leave, he took a step back, and I could see her arm extend to hold on to his hand. He smiled at her, and pulled her towards him. I saw him cupping her face, saying something I couldn’t hear before lowering his mouth to hers.
I didn’t know what I had expected, for her to pull back and slap him in the face would have been the most satisfactory. Instead she threw her arms around his neck, and kissed him back with such passion that one of the Slytherins shouted for them to get a room. ‘Easy Sirius’ Andromeda cautioned me, laying a hand on my shoulder. I had to take several deep breaths to calm down, frowning at her. At school I never had much to do with Andromeda, so it surprised me that she noticed. I walked with her behind Lucius and Narcissa on our way into the village where we would be taking the portkey. ‘It must suck to watch her with him while you care so much’ she said, it wasn’t a question. She probably had no idea how right she was ‘it’s complicated’ I answered her. ‘Isn’t it always’ she added. We gathered around the portkey, each of us touching it, waiting for it to take us away, I deliberately stood as far away from Lex as possible. I felt the familiar tug behind my navel and we were off.
When my feet touched the ground again, I opened my eyes to find myself on a white sandy beach that disappeared in the clear water of the ocean, the sun was just rising. Behind me was the Ritz hotel that Lord Malfoy had rented for the occasion. ‘Good morning, welcome to the Ritz Carlton Grand Cayman hotel, please follow me, so we can hand you your room keys, after that you have the chance to freshen up before breakfast.’
My room, which turned out to be a seaview junior suite, was on the 5^th floor, so it had a breath-taking view. I had a room to myself, and I was happy not to have to share with my brother, as my mother usually had us do. My room had a large kind size bed, a desk and a love seat. When I entered the bathroom to freshen up I was impressed, the entire bathroom was made of marble, it had a round bath and a separate shower. Even the window in the bathroom had a nice view of the sea.
After the shower, I tied the towel around my waist, and stepped on the balcony to admire my view while Kreacher, our house elf, was unpacking the bag I had brought with me from Hogwarts. I stood there for a minute, just looking at the ocean when a voice to my left interrupted my thoughts ‘Sickle for your thoughts.’ I turned left, towards the balcony next to mine where the voice had come from, and found myself face to face with a pretty blonde nursing a cup of coffee. ‘Lydia?’ I asked. It had been a while since I had seen her, and I wasn’t sure. She looked down and blushed ‘Did you forget to put clothes on, or do all of you Britt’s walk around in just a towel all day?’ she asked. I couldn’t contain my laughter at such a comment, if there had been any doubt before, that sentence made me sure that this was Lydia. ‘Does it bother you? I asked flirtatiously. She frowned at that, she lowered her voice to say ‘weren’t you the one writing to me a few months ago for my help in getting my friend Lex to date you?’ I was taken aback at her directness. ‘Where are we standing?’ she wanted to know. Before I could respond, a house elf appeared on he side ‘apologies mistress, we have to get you ready for breakfast.’ She said. Lydia looked torn between staying here, and listening to me, or going with her house elf. ‘I’ll fill you in over breakfast’ I promised her, and she went inside to get dressed. I did the same.
