Ron Weasley starred nervously up at his mother, her stern gaze boring into his wide sky blue eyes.. He fought the urge to flinch at the rhythmic tapping of the older witch's heel, thinking this must surely be some form of torture to break him.
'I won't betray Harry… again… even if the Ministry itself came knocking at the door!' Ron mental declared, sitting up straighter in the old wooden chair.
"Molly, dear?" Arthur Weasley's unsettled voice broke the intense silence of the kitchen, drawing all attention to him. He walked over to his wife, placed a supporting hand on her shoulder; while motioning with his eyes toward the kitchen entrance.
Molly's eyes followed the direction of her husband's; stopping when they meet the form of none other than Lucius Malfoy. She looked back at her spouse, her question evident in the look she gave him. 'What is he doing here?'
"Ginny, Fred, George, up to your rooms. No questions… just go." Arthur turned to his children, as they reluctantly followed their father's order. He wasn't completely surprised when he noticed the color had drained from his youngest son's face. 'What have you gone and gotten yourself into now Ron?' Was Arthur thought as he walked over to stand next to his son.
Lucius walked into the room, his silver eyes trained on Ronald Weasley, he stopped at the table setting his brief case down.
"Mrs. Weasely." He nodded toward the tired mother Weasley, noting the distrust in her gaze. He couldn't blame her; couldn't blame any of the wizards and witch's that gave his family similar looks, even if their name had been cleared it didn't undo all the horrible things he had participated in.
In a way the Potter case was his way of trying to redeem himself; not to mention he owed the poor boy for helping him save Draco and Severus even after all the things he had put him through.
"What is the meaning of all this Mr. Malfoy?" Molly stepped forward in front of Lucius, shielding her son and husband.
Lucius calmly pulled the rolled up Ministry warrant from his sleeve, extending it toward the defensive witch. "It's a Ministry order to question your son; Ronald Weasley and Hermione Granger under the use of Veritaserum. Ms. Longstone will be administrating the Veritaserum and Mr. Rays will be a witness… where is Ms. Granger? We were informed by her parents that she would be staying with your family until the school year began?"
Molly didn't answer having blocked out the platinum blond man once she took the scroll into her hand. She scanned over the Ministry order twice before looking up with narrowed eyes at Malfoy. "My son and his friend were not involved in the war; there are no grounds for this questioning." Molly snapped throwing the scroll at Malfoy's feet.
"Your son and Ms. Granger are Harry Potter's best friends, is there a chance that they may be keeping his whereabouts a secret?" Lucius questioned, not wanting to come right out and accuse the two of hiding something.
Ronald Weasley starred at his mother's back, his heart beating so fast he was sure everyone in the room could hear it. This couldn't be happening, his luck couldn't be this bad; could it?
Molly tightened her jaw, wanting nothing more at the moment then to stupefy the man in front of her. "My son has nothing to hide, do your questioning, and then leave my house." She bit out, stepping aside with her arms crossed.
Lucius nodded, motioning Longstone to start.
"Protocol clearly states all suspects being questioned must be present, when the Vertislism is being administered. Ministry handbook; section 14, the young lady must be present. It's the rule Mr. Malfoy; sir." Longstone replied, but continued to open her medium sized medical bag..
Lucius resisted the urge to narrow his eyes at the woman, speculating on whether the ministry had been dabbling in brainwashing. "Your correct Ms. Longstone; Mr. Weasley would you be so kind as to call down Ms.. Ganger?" Lucius turned to Arthur Weasley; who had a firm grip on his son's shoulder.
Arthur looked confused for a moment, before turning to his wife. "Has Hermione been staying with us?"
"No; she hasn't." Molly answered, turning her gaze to her fidgeting son. "Ronald?"
Ron averted his gaze to the stone floor, cursing the Malfoy name.
Molly grabbed her son's ear between her fingers. "Ronald Weasley, start explaining this instant!" She twisted, causing her youngest son the yelp and reach for her hand.
"Molly that's not necessary, allow Ms. Longstone to administer the Veritaserum and that will be my first question." Lucius stepped forward, trying to calm the obviously stressed woman.
Molly huffed reluctantly releasing her son's ear at the use of her first name. "Well? What are you waiting for girl, administer the bloody thing already." The mother Weasley turned snapping at Longstone; who nearly dropped the blue vile she had been clutching.
"But unless… unless… the young lady is present, I can't-" Longstone tried to mumble out, squishing the growing urge to flee from the other witch. The red-headed woman was more intimidating then a heard of stampeding hippogriffs.
Lucius sighed as he watched Longstone stare up at Molly like a deer caught in the head lights. "Ms. Longstone, I believe your best chance at self preservation is to administer the Veritaserum." Lucius stopped for moment smiling softly at the witch before continuing. "If you're that worried about procedure, you can blame any trouble on me." Lucius said in his best come heather voice; thanking his veela genes when the girl blushed and mumbled a soft okay.
Longstone scooted around Molly; making sure to keep a good distance between them least she anger the other witch again. She starred down with sympathy at the red-headed boy seated in front of her. "Okay, now I need for you to sit up straight, so you can drink this." When the boy stayed hunched over Longstone sighed, reaching into her bag for a large syringe. "Well I suppose it can't be helped… we'll have to do it the hard way. Mr. Rays will you come hold out his arm for me?"
The large man nodded stepping forward and taking hold of Ron's arm with both his hands. As he was grabbed Ron's head snapped up, just in time to see the rather large needle enter his skin. He yelled out in pain as the Veritaserum was injected into his arm; the potion burning his veins as it traveled through his body.
Longstone gently removed the needle recapping it and putting it into a waste container in her bag. She bandaged the injection site, bending the boys arm up to his shoulder. "Keep the pressure on it for a while or else it will bleed."
Ron looked up; his breathing heavy due to the pain, and glared at the witch. He would have flicked her off if it hadn't been for a squeeze on his shoulder from his father.
Molly looked at her son and husband; she hated to see one of her children in pain no matter how stubborn they were being. "If you didn't want the needle, you should have taken the potion."
Rays helped Longstone gather her things and quickly moved to the side to allow Lucius forward. The blond man looked toward the mother Weasley; who had a glint of guilt in her eyes, before turning his full attention to Ronald Weasley.
"Where is Hermione Granger?" Lucius asked keeping his word to Molly.
Ron bit his tongue in an attempt to keep the words from slipping from his mouth. He clinched his teeth but it was no use. "She's not here!" He sputtered out.
Lucius smirked; obviously the boy didn't know who he was dealing with. "Where is Hermione Granger right now?"
Ron clinched his fist, trying to think of something else to avoid bringing up Harry. "She's with a friend."
"A friend? Who is this friend?" Lucius asked taking a step forward in anticipation.
'Damn it!' Ron mentally scream, he could feel Harry's name trying to burst its way out; the longer he resisted the more the damn potion burned his veins. 'I won't do it! I won't betray him! I'll protect Harry even if I burn up from the inside!' He lowered his head digging his nails into the wooden chair; he could feel a sharp pain in his head and something warm trickling from his nose.
Molly watched in horror as blood trickled down her son's nose. 'Ron… it can't be true…' She thought before stepping forward. "Stop it Ronald! Just answer the question!"
Ron could feel his lips tingling as he fought to keep from speaking. As he lend forward to stop the pain, his sky blue eyes widen in surprise as a whisk rolled toward him stopping gently at his feet. He smirked closing his eyes as the small metal hands of the watch attached to it landed on twelve.
Lucius looked down a second to late, cursing as the next instance to room was filled with a flash of blinding light. He fell back clutching his burning eyes, as the sound of rushing footsteps echoed in his ears.
Ron was startled as he was yanked forward, only relaxing when he heard Ginny's whispered voice. "Keep your eyes and mouth shut for a little longer, were getting out of here."
He did as he was told allowing himself to be pulled along by his sibling. Soon he could hear running behind him along with some very colorful profanity. It didn't sound like his dad or Malfoy, so he guessed it must have been that big Ministry official Rays after them.
Ron smirked as the familiar tugging at the back of his navel signaled his departure; he threw his hand back flicking off whoever was behind him before appariting with a loud pop.
Back in the Weasley house Lucius Malfoy sat at the kitchen table rubbing his eyes along with a very pissed off Molly Weasley and her chuckling husband.
"Arthur Weasley stop laughing this instant! This is not funny, our children nearly blinded us and now there Merlin knows where!" Molly scolded her husband, as Longstone and Rays walked back into the kitchen looking defeated.
"They got away. Apparited before we could reach them." Rays reported looking extremely sullen.
Arthur started to laugh; much to his wife's irritation, upon hearing what Rays had to say.
Lucius shook his head joining in Arthur Weasley's laughter, shocking the two Ministry officials standing in front of him.
"Mr. Malfoy, what has gotten into you? Did you not hear what I just said? They got away!" Rays restated, stomping his foot like a child.
"Yes I heard you Rays." Lucius answered once he had his laughter under control. "But I got exactly what I came here for… you see why else would they run unless they were hiding him." The blond smirked as he stood, turning to Molly and Arthur. "Thank you. You have been a great help to my case, we'll be in contact with you once we find your children." With that said Lucius turned quickly walking out of the kitchen, followed by the two Ministry officials.
Arthur place his hand gentle over his wife's when he noticed Molly starting dumbfounded at the now empty kitchen door way, her mouth hanging slightly agape. "I'm sure everything will work out fine dear. Why don't you go have a rest while I make you some nice warm tea."
Molly nodded, standing slowly from the table she wobbled into the living room.
"I did what I could… I'll leave the rest to you Ron." Arthur Weasley smiled, sitting back in the wooden kitchen chair starring at the whisk set in front of him; the same one he had confiscated from his twins only an hour ago.
