Once again, she found herself at the edge of the lake with Luna and Adrien. Being that his thoughts were full to bursting with all kinds of emotions and problems, Adrien wanted to spend the day outside of the castle. As always, they wound up here.
"Write him a letter." Adrien said simply before he chucked another rock harder over the water. Hermione was beginning to think if he kept doing this, there would be a shortage of flat rocks in the wizarding world.
"Write him a letter? Don't you think that would stress him out even more?" Hermione asked as she and Luna stood to join him in his rocky assault on the water.
Adrien turned to her with a half smile as he replaced his hood over his long hair. "No. I've told you, Hermione. He loves written word, and to be honest, I really don't think anyone has ever written him a letter. Or even a poem." Adrien mused before he bent to find another rock.
"Surely he's received letters." Hermione quipped.
"You know what kind of letters, Hermione. It isn't as if you'll be writing him a letter as boring and mundane as a post from the Ministry now is it? Look-" Adrien tossed his rock lazily and turned back to her.
"If you really want to let him know how you feel about him, then write him a letter. Or even a poem, as I've said. He'll appreciate it. Not to mention, he's already shagged you, Hermione. It doesn't get much more intimate than that, but a letter of sorts is a good place to start. Let him know how much you value him outside of the aspects of sex. Write something deep and heart felt, and he'll be sure to swoon after you whenever he glimpses you in the corridor." Adrien threw her a cheeky wink before he bent to search the ground again.
"I don't know if that will work, Adrien.." Hermione trailed off sadly.
"Oh, that's fucking tragic." the younger Snape quipped with a laugh. "He's my father, Hermione. I know him better than anyone. Well... I don't know his body like you do." he teased her, "but really, just do it. I know that somewhere deep in that brain of yours packed with textbook knowledge, that you have some nice words to write down."
"Er... Thanks, Adrien... I suppose I'll just have to find my muse then. Should I... Owl it to him?" Hermione asked.
"Yes, owl it to him. And, let him be your muse, if nothing else. I hope you do, Hermione, because like I said, none of us can afford for you to fuck this up." Adrien laughed at her.
"And, Hermione, you don't have to write just one. I know you've got more to say to him than you're letting on. Break yourself past your shy school girl exterior, and let it out."
The Gryffindor sighed and began to think about what to say to the man in question. That's exactly what he was. A man. And the idea of it was intimidating. Hermione was a young girl. What could she possibly say to a man who had been through as much as Severus had? She began to leave Adrien and Luna behind to give them some time alone together, before Adrien hollared after her.
"Make it sweet!" he exclaimed. Hermione laughed and shook her head as she walked back up the path to the castle.
Taking her time to get back to Gryffindor tower, she began to think of all the things she wanted to say. Adrien was right. He was always right. Hermione had so many things to say that she wouldn't ever possibly be able to will herself to say aloud to him. And yeah, a letter would be a much more intimate choice, rather than spilling her guts to him in a slew of words right from her mouth.
"Subvention d'entrée" she said to the Fat Lady, who nodded and allowed the portrait to swing forward. Hermione entered the Common Room where she found Harry, Ginny, Ron and Lavender.
"Hermione! Hey I've been looking for you." Harry said as she walked past them, desperate to get up to the dormitory and write what was on her mind before she lost it. She turned around impatiently, waiting for him to go on.
"I wanted to ask... Salia Halberstram... Is that Adrien's mother?" he asked.
"Yes, Harry. And Adrien is quite distraught about it, so I wouldn't advise mentioning it to him. She's been absent for 14 years." Hermione told him. Harry nodded in understanding.
"Okay then... I was just curious. I'd like to know who's around.. You know, ex Death Eaters and all." he told her. She nodded.
"Understandable. She was a Death Eater. But either way, Harry I've got some things to tend to upstairs. I'll see you all in a bit, yeah?" Hermione said. Not waiting for an answer, she began to climb the stairs to the dormitory, and was relieved to find it empty.
Hermione waisted no time. She stepped to her bag and pulled out a piece of parchment and a quill and ink and laid on her four poster bed and began to write.
Once she was done, the girl decided that she must have lost track of time, because the sun was now setting just outside of the window. She felt accomplished, having written a quite satisfactory letter to Severus. Giving the ink some time to dry, she rolled over onto her back and stared at the red and gold ceiling in the dormitory, and felt that her thoughts were nicely emptied. No wonder Severus had written so much. She could now see the appeal. She felt rested. This must be why he did it so much in his own spare time.
The girl rolled off of her bed and picked up the parchment and carefully folded it, and placed it in the envelope. She hoped Severus would enjoy the letter, and she hoped even more that he would be inclined to feel what she felt for him.
She descended the stairs, and was relieved that no one was in the Common Room anymore. They must all be at dinner in the Great Hall, she thought. Making her way into the owlry, she found the prettiest owl out of all of them; a black owl with bright yellow eyes. Gently, she stroked the feathers on the owl's head and handed him her letter.
"This is for Severus." she told the large owl. It nodded it's head, and clipped the envelope in it's beak, and then it was off.
