Chapter 29
Sirius was in the room with Harry in under a minute, panting from the dead run to get there. The others would be in there shortly. They were just taking care to shore up whatever in case someone came in. He thought Cissy would handle most of it, but wasn't sure.
“I'm here, Harry,” he said, kneeling down in front of his godson, one hand on his cheek, the other on the back of his head. He was pleased as hell whatever Cissy was doing was working. Harry could hold off whatever was coming long enough to give them a chance to make sure it was safe for him to talk. Though he heard some of the others come in, he ignored it. Harry had held off long enough already, he wasn't going to make him do so any more.Sweat now beading all over his body, some trickling down his spine, Harry gazed at Sirius, trembling harder than normal. Then he started, letting Regulus guide him. “The mirrors—someone needs to get one of them and call Rufus, now. This is huge.”With a glance over his shoulder, Sirius saw Remus hurrying off to find one. He was already on edge since this wasn’t something Harry had done before when it came to the visions. It also gave him hope he was getting whatever this gift was under some form of control. Hearing Snape tell him Lucius was trying to get Alastor there, he nodded then focused on Harry. In hopes of helping Harry hold off what was coming until they could get in contact with Rufus or have Alastor get there, he asked, “Can you tell me who's talking to you?” They hadn't tried this before, of course, but he hoped it would work. If it did, it might give Harry an assist in helping to control the 'gift' better.“It's Regulus,” Harry panted, looking at Sirius. So far, Regulus was good about this whole bit, holding off when he asked and being soothing about what he was doing. He was talking calmly to Harry, trying to help. While he knew what Regulus had to say was really important, Sirius' brother seemed to understand why the question came up and was stalling what he had to say. Listening to what Regulus said, he then smiled and told Sirius, “He says to say you were right all along; he was on the wrong side. It's okay, though, because he changed and did what was right before it was too late. And to tell you he loves you.”Though startled who was talking through Harry, Sirius nodded and gave a sad smile. “He understood before it was too late, it's all that matters in the end. And tell him I love him, too.”Harry was panting heavily, sweat dripping down into his eyes now from the effort it was taking, he focused on Sirius, though he could see and hear everyone else in the room. Just as Sirius finished talking, he saw Remus come into the room with one of the mirrors, Alastor trailing along behind him. From what he could see, Rufus was already in the mirror. Good. He didn't think either of them could hold out much longer and time was of the essence anyway.Once they had the ward up to make sure if someone did come in they couldn't overhear anything, he started, “Get everyone you can to Godric's Hollow, now. You only have an hour before it's under full attack. He's already there, looking for clues in the cemetery. He'll find them then he's going to hunt for Bathilda Bagshot. Get to her before he can. She has a big clue he needs. Regulus says you can't save the town, but you can most of the people in it, especially the Muggles. You have to hurry, though, or it'll be too late.”Though there was a huge commotion, with Rufus saying plenty, already doing what he could while masking what was going on in the mirror, Harry added, “If you play it right, you can get Fenrir. He's there, helping. Trap him.”“We'll handle it,” Sirius assured him, hearing the commotion and Rufus barking orders from the mirror. He then pressed on, “Is there anything else?”“Lots,” Harry panted, eyes now locked on Sirius. “Rufus needs to arrest Umbridge. She's now working for Voldemort. While she's not a Death Eater, she's spying for him and passing information because he's promised her a job in the Ministry that's really high up when he gains power, one she'll love. Someone needs to stop her. She's already given him plenty of information he can use and has a couple people under the Imperious.”And that revelation caused even more shouting, especially from the now irate Rufus.“The full fight is here,” Harry panted out, pleased Regulus was taking his time and imparting this slowly so he could get everything out he could without feeling overly stressed by it. “This will kick it off because he's furious over so much. Umbridge has given him everything he needed to start it, including the Dementors. She helped him to negotiate a treaty with them. They are now under his control, completely. Tonight they'll break the prisoners he wants out of Azkaban before they feed off the others.”“Shit!” Sirius muttered, glancing around wildly, heart hammering in an almost panic. Harry was imparting plenty the Ministry had to take care of and he wasn't sure if Rufus had the bodies to do so or not. The Dementors alone were huge and needed handled. While everyone in that awful place wasn't innocent, they didn't deserve what the Dementors did. And they sure as hell didn't need that evil arse's followers let out to help, either! “Rufus will do his best,” he finally said, hearing chaos behind him. Now he wasn't sure what else to ask.Severus was wide-eyed at what he was seeing and hearing. While he knew Potter could do this and had seen parts, he hadn't seen the full 'show' before. Quickly running through his mind all the questions he had, listening to the scramble behind him, including Alastor going to alert Albus as Rufus said he needed all the help he could get, he came over and crouched down by Black. As Remus was taking notes, he was going to see what information he could get.As gently as he could, he asked, “Can Regulus tell us what the Dark Lord is hunting? Give us some kind of hint about what it is or why he wants it? You said he's looking for clues.” Then he waited and hoped.Harry's eyes went to Snape as he listened to Regulus. There was a ton Regulus wanted to get across, but it wasn't easy doing it this way since he had to relay it. Because his power had grown with him learning what he had from Narcissa in hopes to control it, there was something he could do to get it across faster, he was just scared to allow Regulus to take over his body to talk. It took a few minutes for Regulus to assure him it was fine and tell him he could push him back if he wanted to.Finally, Harry gave Snape a shaky nod then said, “Regulus has lots he wants to say. We're going to do it a different way, though, so you can talk to him directly.”Eyes wide, Sirius stuttered, seeing Snape stiffen up himself, then said, “Harry, be damned careful. Don't put yourself in danger. And don't let anyone trick you.”“I'm not,” Harry assured him in that uneven, slurred voice that heralded the state he was in. Then he let Regulus take control, though he was highly trepidatious about doing so.“He wants the Deathly Hallows,” Regulus told him, taking control of Harry's body so he could talk. “While he wants them all, the one he covets most is the Elder Wand. He thinks if he possesses that powerful wand, no one can stop him. It's mostly the reason he's attacking Godric's Hollow. There is a clue in the cemetery and old Bathilda knows information that can help. As frail as she is, she'll give it up and won't be able to hold him off. Rufus needs to get to her, fast, before the Dark Lord can. I doubt there is any way to stop him from getting what he needs from the cemetery, so focus on her.”Sirius could feel the hair stand up on the back of his neck hearing his brother's voice come out of Harry's mouth. All he hoped was Harry knew what he was doing in allowing this to happen. If he didn't, he had no clue how to pull Harry back. He didn't think Regulus would do something to harm Harry, but you never know. “What are the Hallows?” He managed to ask, though his voice was shaky.Severus, too, was completely stunned and blindsided by what was going on. However, he thought he had heard of them and remembered what it meant. “Do you mean the items from that children's story about Death and the three brothers?”“That's the Hallows,” Regulus told him, reassuring Harry it was fine and he would relinquish control when he imparted everything he needed to. “They are real,” he pressed on. “There are three of them. The Elder Wand is what he covets most, of course, as he sees it as the most powerful. The ring he has, but it's hidden. You can get it because he thinks it's safely hidden.”“Where it is?” Sirius asked, trying to tune out the chaos reigning behind him and hoping someone was still taking notes.“It's the ring hidden in that shack Harry told everyone about. Get it as fast as you can.” Regulus told his brother. “He doesn't realize anyone knows about it and thinks he's smart enough to have hidden it in a place no one knows about. Be careful, though. It has curses on it, like Harry told you before.”Remembering the bit about the ring, Severus nodded then said, “Rufus will handle it. The third one—does he have a line on it or have it in his possession?”“No, the third one is perfectly safe in the hands of the third brother's descendent and always has been. The Dark Lord doesn't know where to even start looking. He will, if everything else fails, as the three make you the Master of Death, something he thinks he can use to his advantage. Don't worry, it's the one he can't get his hands on.”“Where is it?” Sirius asked, honing in on what his brother said. If they had to, they would get their hands on it to make damned sure that evil arse couldn't.With a smile, Regulus told him, “It's safe, Sirius, and very protected. I won't tell you where, just that it's always been safe and he had no chance of getting his hands on it, even if he can figure out what it is. Don't worry.”“We'll take your word for it, Reggie,” Severus told him, calling Regulus by his old nickname in school. “Anything else?” While Regulus had given them plenty that could help and protect many, he wondered if there was more.“Several bits,” Regulus told him. “And I have to hurry. It's taking a lot out of Harry to allow me to do this. I'll give you all I can. Just make sure you pay attention.”“I'm taking notes so we don't miss anything,” Remus said, chiming in for the first time. His quill was scribbling madly across the parchment, eyes wide at what he was hearing. With a nod to Sirius' old friend, Regulus pressed on. “There are three people you need to protect. Two have information on the wand, or so he thinks. Ollivander and Fortescue. The Ministry needs to help. If the Dark Lord can't get Bathilda, he'll turn his attention there.”“We'll make sure Rufus does when he finishes tending to the rest,” Severus assured him. “Who is the third?”“Amelia Bones,” Regulus told him. “He sees her as huge threat to to his plans. Tell her to stay in a Ministry safehouse and not go home.”“We'll handle it,” Sirius assured him, thankful for what his brother was saying. He was saving plenty of lives, that's for damned sure.“Now there are other bits to take care of,” Regulus said, focusing on Severus. “That Vanishing Cabinet they found in the Room of Hidden Things. Destroy it. The other is in a place he can get his hands on it. While it doesn't work, he can repair it. It's a way he can get into the castle.” After hearing Severus' reassurances he would, he added, “Tell Albus he has to lock down all the hidden passages into the castle, especially the one to the Shrieking Shack. The Dark Lord can get into the shack because it's not within the wards. Make it to where the passages are magically locked and warded so he can't use them. He will try to take Hogwarts at some point, especially if all else fails and he finds his Horcruxes gone. Make it as hard on him as you can.”“I will pass it along,” Severus assured him, planning to do just that. Yes, that castle needed to stay as safe as they could manage to protect the students.“Tell Rufus to talk to Aberforth. Plenty that know information you lot aren't getting are in that pub and talking. If he can get someone in working there, they can pass along tips all of you need,” Regulus suggested, looking around. Time was running short, but he was thankful he was almost done. There was one more item to pass along then a task to tend to before he gave Harry back control. Well, and he wanted to talk to Harry alone as well.“We'll do that,” Sirius assured him, wondering why they hadn't thought of that idea to begin with. Aberforth was more than willing to help all he could.Regulus then focused on Severus. “He'll summon you in a couple of days. And he'll be irate as some of his plans were foiled. Be prepared because he's going to start doling out huge missions for everyone to get this moving. He wants to end this when he finds that wand.”“I'll deal accordingly,” Severus assured him, happy to have a heads up so he could prepare. Any missions from here on out would be bad to deal with. And if the Dark Lord was in a foul mood, it would be even worse.“I have one more thing to do before I give control back to Harry,” Regulus said. Then he gazed at his brother and smiled. “I'm proud of you, Sirius. Always have been, actually. You've always done the right thing, even if I didn't want to believe it at the time.”“Thanks,” Sirius said softly, smiling as he did. Though it was right unnerving hearing his brother's voice come out of Harry's mouth, he was happy to hear it, even if it was only this way. Then, looking around, Regulus bellowed for Kreacher the way he always had when he lived at home, making everyone in the room jump as he did. The elf would know his voice and come, despite the odd circumstances.Eyes overly wide, Kreacher popped in, pulling his ears. It was Master Regulus' voice, he knew it, but didn't know how.“Kreacher,” Regulus started, glaring at the elf. “Protect everyone in this house, especially Harry. It's an order from me. They are doing the right thing and all they can to help. To do so, they need you to keep them, and their secrets safe. They are the ones that helped finish my last mission. I want your promise, Kreacher! You can be a good and faithful elf to the House of Black and still give them a hand. I want you to, for me. Understood?”Though Kreacher didn't understand how Master Regulus' voice came out of Harry Potter's mouth, he knew it was his Master. Nodding repeatedly, he assured his beloved Master, “Kreacher will help all he can. Yes he will. He will keep Harry Potter safe and the secrets like he should.”“I mean it, Kreacher,” Regulus told him. “You're doing it for me.”“Kreacher will make Master Regulus proud of him,” the elf said, nodding and bowing.“Good.” Regulus said. “Off with you. Clean up and get to it.”When the elf popped away, he said, “I have to go. Harry can't do this any longer. I have something I want to say to him privately before I go, so give it a minute.”“You've been a big help,” Sirius told his brother with a smile, thinking Regulus has done plenty to not only save many lives, but help a cause he had sworn he didn't believe in before he died. That counted big for him.“Love you, Sirius,” Regulus said, then was gone.“Love you, too,” Sirius smiled, though he was unnerved by the blank look on Harry's face. “Harry?” He called softly, hoping this wasn't anything horrible and his godson was fine.“It's over,” Regulus told Harry softly when he pulled back. Harry wasn’t fully in place yet, but would be when they were done talking. “You can do this now, with those you trust. They have to ask you first, though. Make sure you don't allow anyone you don't know or trust to try. And you can pull them back if you have to, so you're never in danger of them taking complete control. It'll be easier on you, Harry, though you'll be plenty tired when you finish.”“It might be,” Harry admitted. It was like he was in that 'in between place' again. He could see everyone in the room and hear them talking, but was more focused on Regulus, ignoring the nudges from plenty he didn't know. To him, it was like Regulus was standing there right by him, almost real enough to touch. “I'm just worried what could happen if I do.”“You don't have to,” Regulus told him, putting a hand on his shoulder and giving it a squeeze. “I couldn't have managed to take over if you didn't have the power to pull me back if you wanted to. You can, with anyone that tries. Keep working with Cissy and meditating. It's helping you, more than you know. Soon you'll be able to control plenty. Oh, the prophecies and warnings will always come. It's a gift you'll have until it's time for you to pass the threshold the last time, but you'll be able to control it, to an extent. Give it time and work on it. You're helping finish the war like the Prophecy said. Just not in the way Albus thought you had to. Your hand will help end it, though someone else will wield the wand that ends the Dark Lord.”“I supposed it's a good thing, isn't it?” Harry admitted, not having thought about it that way because he didn't like the gift.“It is,” Regulus assured him. He then crouched down by Harry and smiled. “It can do more than that, Harry. You've just not had it under enough control to manage the other part yet. You do now, though.”“What do you mean?” Harry asked curious. He wasn't all that sure he wanted more, honestly, since this made him plenty uncomfortable.“You can talk to me or your parents whenever you want,” Regulus told him with a smile. “The same with others that have passed on you knew. All you have to do is get into the state Cissy is working with you on when it comes to the meditation and call us. We'll talk to you and help all we can, even if it's personal advice. And all of us would be plenty happy to help you. I promise, we won't get upset if you call us and need to talk.”Harry thought about his parents then smiled. “I think I might like doing something like that,” he admitted softly. “The same with you.”“It'll be a bit tough at first, but you'll manage.” Regulus assured him with a big smile. “You can call me any time you want, even if you just want to hear funny stories about Sirius when he was younger.”“Those could be great,” Harry told him with a grin.“I'll talk to you all you want,” Regulus reiterated. “I promise. Once you find a way to get into that state easily, we can spend time together. Learning will help you control plenty later in life. It'll be something you can use, I promise.”“Let me see what I can do,” Harry told him, meaning it. It could be interesting, after all.“Keep going with Draco,” Regulus told him. “The two of you are good for each other, in plenty of ways. And I promise Draco won't mind you’re gay. He thinks of you as a better friend than anyone he's had up until now. Something that trivial won't change his mind. He's accepted it from others and will from you too, I promise. And Merlin help the person that makes snide comments or calls you names over it. He'll be worse to deal with than Hermione.”Harry nodded at what was said, smiling a bit. He would wait to tell Draco, of course, until the time was right, but it might be safe. Certainly safer than some others since he didn't know how they would react.Regulus then reached out and rubbed Harry's head much the same way Sirius did. “And Sirius feels the same way about you as you do about him, I swear. Give it time, Harry. He won't reject you. He's grappling with what he feels for you as well. When the time comes, you'll know when to admit these parts to him. Listen to your instincts. The two of you have had miserable lives up until now. It's time you both had some happiness. And you'll make each other plenty happy. If you feel unsure or don't know what to do, call me and we'll talk.”“Thanks,” Harry said, smiling at Regulus. “For everything,” he then added.“You're welcome.” Standing once more, Regulus sighed. “It's time for me to go. If you don't 'go back' soon, everyone is going to panic. You'll be tired from this, but that's all. Go, Harry. They have plenty to worry about without concern that something is wrong with you.” Then, with a wave, he vanished.Still smiling, Harry looked at the place Regulus had been and nodded. Then, with a sigh, he focused back on 'reality' and found himself fully in control again, having pulled out of the trance.Sirius was beginning to worry after calling Harry's name a couple of times and only seeing a blank look on his face. Then his godson blinked and slumped, trembling far more than normal. After scooting forward, he wrapped his arms around Harry and held him close. “Are you fine, Harry?” He asked softly.“I'm good,” Harry told Sirius, clinging to him. “Very tired,” he admitted with a shake of his head. Whatever happened had taken almost everything out of him and felt like he was going to drop from it.“Oh, I bet you are,” Sirius said. There was plenty he wanted to ask when it came to the bit with Regulus, but it would have to wait until tomorrow. Not only did Harry look so tired he was sure he was about to go to sleep, but there was too much to attend to with this mess to get to it tonight.“'M thirsty,” Harry then said, though it was slurred from how tired he was. His mouth was parched, though, so he wanted something to drink.Sirius was about to call an elf when a much cleaned up Kreacher popped in with a glass of juice.“For Master Harry,” Kreacher said, passing the juice to Master Sirius. While he didn't know how Master Regulus had come back, he had made a promise he would keep.Though startled, sure the elf would have ignored whatever happened, Sirius nodded and took the juice. Conjuring a straw for it, he held the glass for Harry so he could get a drink. When Harry finished, he asked, quietly, “Better?”“Much,” Harry admitted with a sigh, fighting to now stay awake.Still holding onto Harry, Sirius told him, “Right, we have plenty to do. I'm going to have you lay down on the settee in here and we'll move everything we have to do into this room so you're not alone.”“Good,” Harry sighed, feeling like he was going to drop. All he wanted to do was sleep, nothing more. After helping Harry to stand and moving him over to the settee where a wide-eyed Cissy was waiting with a blanket for him, Sirius helped him lay down. Almost as soon as Harry's head hit the pillow, he was out. While there were plenty of questions he wanted to ask, they would wait until the following day. Now there was business. He could still hear Rufus shouting in the mirror at plenty, barking orders. Remus was trying to go through the notes and Snape was conferring with Lucius. Yeah, they had a ton of work to do. Harry could sleep and they would manage all they could. Tomorrow, though, he'd get answers to the burning questions he had.Focusing, he then jumped into the middle, trying to sort what they had to do first and how to go about it.
