“Seriously, Lupin!” Severus snarled as he sat with the man in his study on the third floor “Stop laughing”
“I’m sorry” Remus said and forced his face to be serious before roaring with laughter again.
“I shouldn’t have told you” Severus mumbled “I don’t know why I’m having strange dreams, I’m not the pregnant witch”
“It’s called Sympathy Pains or something like that” Remus said “I went through it too. I got back aches, my feet would start killing me and once they even swelled, I’m pretty sure I went through labor with her…it was not pretty”
“Yes” Severus sneered “But did you ever have dreams about giants cats that all look like that demon cat of hers chasing you around and trying to use you as a ball of yarn?”
“Nope” Remus chuckled again “However, just so you don’t feel alone in the dreaming bit. I did have a dream during the first trimester that I was being eaten by giant cookies” Snape snorted “It was really disturbing…I mean, they were dunking me in a big glass of milk!”
“You win” Severus said between bouts of laughter “That is…too…have you told Black this one?”
“Don’t you dare!” Remus snapped “I’ll hate you forever!”
“I won’t” Severus promised “Besides, it’ll be fun to know that he is suffering alone. At least I have you here and you know what’s going on and everything, I won’t feel completely lost and freaked out”
“That is why I’m here” Remus said with a grin.
“What was the worse thing for you” Severus asked “When coming to grips with the first pregnancy?”
“Probably the whole war aspect” Remus admitted now completely sobered from the laughter “I worried about the baby not making it, Tonks dying, not being a good father, my child being an outcast because of my werewolf status” He looked around and then added “And I wasn’t even really sure that I was in love with Tonks, it all happened so quickly. What’s the worse for you so far?”
“I’m worried I’ll be just like my own father” Severus admitted “He used to beat my mother and me something horrible. I don’t want to be like that, ever. Something that makes me feel like a creature under scrutiny however, is how the students look at me knowing that I’m going to be a father”
“What do you mean?” Remus asked with a grin.
“Well” He said “I know they are not stupid and must know that Hermione and I have sex, they found her knickers in a cauldron for merlin’s-sake and yet they still look at me like ‘holy crap! He’s had sex before and now there’s proof’ what the hell is that about?”
“I don’t know” Remus said with a laugh.
“I have guys giving me a thumbs up” Severus continued “Other male students whistling and congratulating me for getting my wife pregnant and female students looking at the front of my pants like there’s a window there and they can see my cock!”
“Wow” Remus chuckled “Yeah, now that you point it out I know what you’re talking about. I don’t get it here and with this pregnancy but when Tonks got pregnant with Teddy Ron, Harry and even Hermione looked at me like that”
“Really?” Severus asked as he leaned back and took a sip of his drink “I wonder why”
“I think it’s because they knew me as a soft spoken person who rarely brought attention to himself and there I was with a pregnant woman” Remus answered “They knew that it was my child in there so it really just dawned on them that I really did have an entire side to my personality and life that they didn’t know” He smiled “That there was something there that not only attracted another person to spend time with me but that we actually had sex and now there was proof, like you said”
“I see” Severus said thinking about it “So, the students likely see me as a cold, stand-offish person and think it’s amazing that I was actually having sex with my wife not just making it up”
“To put it in so many words” Remus said “Yes. The guys think its awesome that you have such a beautiful wife and the girls are now realizing…”
“What?” Severus asked sitting up and glaring at the other man “What are the girls now realizing?”
“Well” Remus looked like a wizard caught in the hand of a giant “I’m not being rude so don’t get angry!”
“Okay” He said slowly.
“The girls look up to Hermione” Remus worded this carefully “Though they know that you two are married and the older girls know what the law demands of you two they still probably found it hard that she would willingly sleep with you” Remus flinched slightly when Severus’s eyes narrowed “So the girls are learning that looks are only skin-deep and that maybe there is something there that they can’t see…they would automatically think of the sex”
“Oh” Severus looked at his hands for a moment “Alright I guess”

Hermione once again found herself at the Burrow, a place that Severus would only venture to when she made him. He was worried about accidently showing too much emotion again, while he told everyone that he was busy and couldn’t make it, in private she told Molly the truth. The red-haired woman was so touched that she sent half the dinner home with Hermione along with instructions to bring him next time. That was how she managed to drag Severus along this time, he avoided Molly like she had dragon pox. Hermione just reached eight weeks and her next appointment was that Wednesday so they figured it was time to tell everyone. Remus knew but not anyone else and the only reason he knew (other than his amazing sense of smell) was because he was going to be watching over Snape’s class during the appointment that week. Hermione took a deep breath and squeezed his hand as she stood up after they’d consumed their delicious dinner.
“I have an announcement” Hermione said and she watched as everyone turned to look at her with varying degrees of interest on their faces “I’m not going to drag this out as it makes no sense to do that…and you know I hate it when people do that because then you’re sitting there wondering what could be so important as to keep talking…”
“Hermione!” Severus hissed “You’re rambling”
“Oh, right” She blushed “Well, I’m not going to be able to keep it from you too much longer, if you don’t already know…working with students that like to eavesdrop usually brings secrets forth before one is really ready to say them and then…”
“Hermione!” Severus snapped again “You are rambling again”
“I’m pregnant!” She said in a rush, everyone continued to stare at her for a minute then looked at Snape before they all stood and started to congratulate them “How do you guys not know?” She asked “The students all know they overheard me talking about my morning sickness!”
“Students always say someone’s pregnant” Severus told her “No one believes them without solid proof…I hear about at least three pregnancies a week, I used to check in on them but now I know they will come to me or Madame Pomphrey”
“When’s your next appointment?” Molly asked Hermione.
“This Wednesday” She answered “Severus will be coming with me”
“What about your classes?” Molly asked “Are you canceling them?”
“No” He answered “Remus is taking them”
“Remus?” Sirius asked while Harry started laughing “Remus ‘I-can’t-brew-to-save-my-life’ Lupin is taking your class?”
“It’s a double potions class” Severus explained “The first hour is reading a chapter on a new potion and the second hour is writing up notes for the potion along with writing an essay to be handed in on Thursday…I think he can manage that”
“Wouldn’t bet my life on it” Harry said in a mock whisper and Remus scowled at them.
“Oh Hermione!” Ginny ran forward and hugged her while bursting in to tears “Our kids will be going to Hogwarts at the same time!”
“Mine too” Tonks squealed and then burst in to tears causing Hermione to cry as well. Remus looked at Arthur as the father of seven children rolled his eyes at the hormonal overload. Severus stood there caught between attempting to walk over indecision is Hermione needed him and looking to Remus for help. Remus raised his hand and beckoned the dark man over to him and then pointed towards the chair next to him.
“But Hermione’s crying” Severus said in a worried tone “She needs me…”
“No, she doesn’t” Arthur said “Pregnant women are really emotional. Sometimes its throughout the entire pregnancy sometimes not and its always different between pregnancy” He smiled knowingly at Severus “With Molly she had horrible morning sickness but no emotional rollercoasters with Bill, Percy or Ron but with Charlie she always woke up sick for the whole nine months and cried at everything”
“What about the twins and Ginny?” Hermione asked, having calmed down enough to listen to what the older man was saying. The twins looked at their mum to see if she would take over the conversation, this was never something they thought to ask their parents.
“With Fred and George” Molly picked up the story “I would laugh at everything. It was really tiresome, Arthur fell out of a second story window trying to move Bills things around and I burst out laughing at the situation, though I felt terrible about it I just couldn’t stop”
“Jokesters from the womb” Fred said with a satisfied expression.
“I didn’t have any morning sickness though” She continued “Not even tender breasts. I didn’t even know that I was pregnant with them until about four months in and I started to gain unexplained weight”
“What about Ginny?” Tonks asked.
“By the book morning sickness” Molly said “The first three months then gone by the fourth and horrible heartburn the rest of the time”
Conversations broke off to different people and soon Remus, Sirius and Harry were chatting about a Quidditch game they were hoping to see. Remus wasn’t particularly a huge fan of the game but he liked to watch it every once in a while. The women were now discussing different things that can happen during pregnancy and certain things to avoid to keep from getting sick. Arthur walked in to the living room as he knew that any hope of food wouldn’t be coming for a while. Severus watched the man disappear and took a deep breath before following him. Arthur had just made it to the back door when he realized that he was being followed, he looked at Snape and sighed. Nodding to the door both men snuck out and Arthur led the way to his shed where everyone knew he did his tinkering with muggle contraptions.
“So what has you following me out here?” Arthur said as he walked around his work bench “Did Molly tell you to follow me?”
“No” Severus said “I followed you on my own”
“And your reasoning behind it?” Arthur asked “Is everything okay?”
“No actually, it isn’t” Severus said.
“Is it Hermione?” Arthur asked looking worried “Is she truly okay?”
“She’s fine” Severus said “Eight weeks pregnant, but fine” He walked over to a toaster and looked at it for a moment “That’s actually why I’m here. Arthur…” The other man looked at him and sighed “I don’t know what I’m doing…”
“What new father does?” Arthur laughed “You think I was born with the knowledge that I would have seven kids and that I knew exactly how to raise them and what to expect?” He shook his head with a laugh.
“But all I ever learned from my father was hatred and abuse” Severus said “I don’t want to raise my own child like that. I want the child to have options, friends, love and anything else that I can provideI want the child to have options, friends, love and anything else that I can provide without them knowing that hatred and disappointment that I knew”
“Then show them that” Arthur said “The only thing you lack, Severus is the ability to allow yourself to be silly and immature sometimes”
“Immature?!” He looked outraged at the mere thought of being ‘silly and immature’ for any reason.
“Look at the way Draco Malfoy was raised” Arthur said “He’s okay now…but his father was never silly with him and taught him to behave as such was an abomination” Severus nodded “Don’t do that to yours”
“So don’t give them rules?” Severus asked, horrified.
“No” Arthur said “Give them rules but allow them to make mistakes, be okay with the choices and help them when its needed”
“But…” Severus started.
“Severus!” Arthur looked at him with a laugh “You are never going to be totally sure of what you are doing. Parenting is terrifying and fun, crazy and loving all at the same time and no two families raise their children the same way. You don’t want to be like your father then remember this: If it is becoming too loud out them in another room make sure they are safe and walk away. If it becoming just plain too much then Floo me and Molly or Remus even Minerva and someone will come help you. But never allow your anger or frustration be taken out on your child, always remember the type of father you don’t want to be versus the type you want to be”
“It’s as simple as that?” Severus snorted “Thanks, I guess”
