Last Time:
Cornelius casually slipped the gloves on so he could get ready to hold what was inside the bag and he did so just as Rita Skeeter walked into the room with her ever present drink …

“Hey, Draco. What’s wrong?” Julian whispered as he sat next to an annoyed Draco at the tables for the Legerdemain students.
Draco glanced over his shoulder to look at Ron before turning back to Julian, “The last time we were here the redhead idiot got nasty. Sasha nearly ate his rat just to make him go away. We still ended up hiding from all the other gossip mongers.” He said not happy that he spent that entire day basically hiding from certain Hogwarts students who wanted details on Julian, but didn’t have the balls to ask directly. Of course, that might have been a good thing because it meant no one was in Julian’s way as he searched for Dumbledore.
“That explains why I didn’t see you all day! You never told me that. If anyone bugs you again just tell me- …” Julian trailed off when he glanced over to the redhead and saw the rat. “Stay away from that rat.”
The Malfoy frowned, knowing Julian was worried about something. “Why-“ Unfortunately, there was no time to continue their talk because Severus stood tall to make an announcement.
“Today will be the day of the first round of the Tri-Wizard Tournament!” Severus announced and he waited for the cheers to quiet down before continuing. “The first round will begin in two hours. Right after breakfast the competitors will be escorted to a room where they can rest and mentally prepare. Also, if you see floating crystal butterflies you’re seeing a camera from a different news organization. For those who don’t know what I mean you will just need to watch the new screens when you watch the first round. You’ll understand then. Now, everyone eat.”
Draco ignored the food that appeared and immediately looked back at Julian, “What’s with the rat?”
“It has a human soul.” Julian whispered as he looked for the minister, who was nibbling at a danish while waiting for the students to finish their meal. When the high heeled ‘Rita’ went over to chat with the minister, Julian conjured up a tiny piece of paper and wrote something. He saw Obi watching from overhead and let Obi read the note from above before giving it to his tiny occamy who zipped away with it.
‘I should’ve eaten it then.’ Sasha growled as she hopped off Draco’s lap and kept an eye on the rat.

“Minister Fudge!” Rita called out and her high heels clacked as she walked over to him. “What’s this about a different news organization being here?”
Cornelius finished the danish and wiped the stickiness off his left gloved hand with a napkin, “I do apologize about that, Rita. Once the Legerdemain students returned to their homes word got out and now everyone wants to know what’s happening. To make things easier I allowed a couple different foreign news organizations to report on the tournament. This decision has nothing to do with you or your impeccable skills.”
Rita smirked as her pride was stroked and took a sip of her drink, “Of course, Minister. I know it’s not easy being the one everyone needs for guidance.”
The minister mentally cringed at the meaning behind that comment. It really showed Dumbledore’s arrogance. Thankfully, something distracted him so he didn’t make a passive aggressive comment to the homicidal wizard hiding behind a curvy disguise. That something was a little occamy passing him a note.
“Thank you.” Cornelius said as he took the note. As Tanzanite flew back to Julian, the minister opened and read the note. “Oh my.” He said casually and immediately destroyed the note effectively disappointing Rita who tried, and failed, to sneak a peek. “I better talk to Severus about some children before this gossiping turns into a lawsuit.”
Rita scoffed, “Children can cause so much trouble.” She said and calmly sipped on her drink while slightly glaring at Julian.
“Yeah.” Cornelius commented trying to not sound uneasy with Dumbledore’s glare. He just leaned over and held the bag he was given firmly so he wouldn’t lose it. Once Severus dismissed the students he went over to the headmaster. “I need to arrest the Weasley rat.” He whispered as the 8 competitors gathered just outside the Great Hall.
“I see. We should take care of that. Minerva, would you take the competitors to their room?” Severus asked as his familiar landed on the redhead’s head before he could leave. Obi clearly pointed with his tail at Severus and even Ron understood that he had to go talk to the headmaster.
“Of course! Everyone who is competing, follow me!” Minerva exclaimed as she left the Great Hall with 8 students following her.
Ron sighed and went over to Severus and the minister as the last of the other students left the Great Hall, “Am I in trouble, headmaster?”
“Nope.” Severus said bluntly. “I wanted to know why you have been falling behind in your studies.” He said as his familiar used a spell to stun the rat using only its tail and all without Ron noticing.
The young Weasley winced, “Please don’t-“
“I was planning on involving your parents … yet. Tell me what's going on.” Severus said sincerely while also allowing Cornelius a chance to get behind Ron. As Ron pondered on whether or not he should talk with the headmaster, Cornelius used his wand to skillfully levitate the rat out of the pocket.
“It’s just …” Ron mumbled something under his breath.
Severus raised an eyebrow, “Come again?” He asked subtly watching the minions who now had the rat and was looking for a spot to hide the rat. Since the minister couldn’t risk using his bag he took off his hat and stashed the rat in his hat before sticking the hat to his head with a spell.
“Nothing fits right and my bag keeps breaking.” Ron mumbled, clearly a bit ashamed about it.
“I see.” Severus said. As much as he admired the Weasley family’s ability to stretch a galleon they might’ve gone a bit too far if Ron’s badly worn things were any indication. “Would you like to be the first student to participate in a new Gringotts program?”
Ron’s eyes lit up, “First?!” He exclaimed, but then became sad. “Does it cost money?”
“No.” Severus said as his familiar jumped onto his shoulder. “In fact, it will provide you with a chance to make your own money doing safe odd jobs and as the first student you will be given fresh school supplies. All you need to do is keep your grades up, work hard and no more bugging the Legerdemain students … yes, I know about that.” He chuckled as Ron looked sheepish. The boy wasn’t subtle and Obi overheard a lot of what Draco told Julian just moments ago.
The red haired student nodded, “I’ll behave, headmaster.”
“Good. We can discuss most of it now if the minister doesn’t mind.” Severus said casually.
Cornelius smiled, “You go ahead. I just remembered something I should take care of. I’ll be back for the tournament!” He exclaimed and walked away to quickly get his furry prisoner to his own cell.

“This is perfect. Potter or not, Legerdemain will lose.” Some Gryffindor snickered as the competitors were seen being escorted away by Minerva.
“No kidding! They’ll be so shocked and will lose for sure.” A Ravenclaw said.
Cedric frowned, “What are you guys talking about?”
“We found out what the first task was and told the other teams. The Legerdemain team will shit themselves when they realize they’re going up against dragons and have no plan.” The Gryffindor said and the two laughed.
The Hufflepuff blinked a couple times and slowly paled as the information sank in, “What? … but Sally and Julian are the youngest there and dragons are dangerous!”
“They’re all going against the dragons anyway so it’s not like we’re doing anything that bad.” The Gryffindor said with an uncaring shrug.
The Ravenclaw nodded, “We’re just flustering them and hopefully putting the points in the right spots.”
As funny as those two found the situation Cedric was far from amused. In fact, he was very worried about the two youngest of the competitors. After a quick mumble of some vague excuse, which he honestly couldn’t remember, Cedric left the group. He went down the hall he saw the transfiguration professor lead the competitors down and tried to find the room they were supposedly resting in.
Sadly, that was nowhere as easy as it sounded. Seeing where Professor McGonagall took them was useful, but that meant they could be in any of the rooms or in one of the connecting halls. In short, they could be anywhere. However, Cedric did know something and it was that the area where the for the first round was near this side of the castle. It’s possible that they were in the rooms closest to that area.
“I hope I’m right.” Cedric muttered as he ran down the hallways and towards the last rooms, which he knew was closest to where the arena would be. He knew he was on the right track when he heard Professor McGonagall’s voice echo through the hall. Where … not enough time.” He muttered and continued looking for Julian when he realized it could take too long to locate Professor McGonagall. Thankfully, it seemed like it was a wise choice. “What the … oh. Yeah, this must be it.”
When Cedric turned that corner he was met with only one door. Normally there would be a few doors in the hallway, but it wasn’t too surprising to see a sudden shift in the castle’s floor plan. Hogwarts has become quite lively since Julian has arrived. Without thinking that much about the connection the Hufflepuff went up to the door and pressed his ear to the door.
“I don’t hear anything.” Cedric mused and decided to risk opening the door. “Thank Merlin.” He murmured softly in relief when he found that he was correct and there was no one in the immediate room, which looked like a common room that opened up to the courtyard. “That must be the room.” He pondered as he walked into the very literal open concept common room.
Attached to the common room were four rooms and each door had a name. The names were for each individual school so Cedric immediately went to the one that said Legerdemain’s name in fancy letters. When he rushed to open the door he nearly fell over because the door swung open on its own. As a result Cedric stumbled into the room.
“Whoa! You ok?” Someone said as the door closed and once Cedric caught himself and gathered some of his senses he looked up to see Julian and Sally. “Umm hello?” Julian asked, trying to get the dazed Hufflepuff’s attention.
Cedric blinked, “Oh! Right! I need to talk to you two. The other teams are taking advantage of the fact that your school doesn’t stay here. They all know that you’ll be facing-“
“Dragons!” Sally chirped excitedly.
“Huh?” Cedric gaped not prepared for that interruption at all, but then his shoulders sagged in relief. “Oh thank Merlin. I was worried you guys didn’t know.”
Julian shrugged sheepishly, “Well technically Hogwarts just told us.”
“Yep! Hogwarts is cool!” The 10 year old girl exclaimed happily. She saw a carving of a hand appear on the wall and slapped the carving with her open hand effectively giving Hogwarts a high five.
“Yeah she is.” Julian grinned before turning back to Cedric. “Thank you for trying to warn us. Don’t worry. While the other teams had more time to plan, that won’t matter. You should go and see for yourself.”
Cedric tilted his head curiously, but a smirk came to his lips as he realized that they weren’t worried at all, “Show them up.”
“She will.” Julian said with a mischievous smile as he pointed at the giddy girl.
Feeling much better about everything tournament wise the Hufflepuff snuck out of the room and went back to waiting for the tournament to begin. Not long after Cedric left the teams were called into the common room by the new groundskeeper where they found a few crystal butterflies. One by one the groundskeeper led each team and the butterflies into the nearby arena.

“Oh my!” Minerva gasped as she took a seat in the bleachers and saw a couple screens hovering over the arena. “What are these?” She asked as the students and staff filled the rest of the seats.
Severus sighed, “I know it’s a bit usual for people here, but this is how the event will be broadcasted by the foreign news organization I mentioned earlier …The Fly High News I think their name was.”
“It was and I feel a weight off my head knowing they’re around.” The minister said as he passed the headmaster.
Rita Skeeter chuckled as she passed them to sit in the section reserved for the headmasters, headmistress and minister, “I do believe you mean shoulders, minister.” She said with a bit of a condescending tone in her voice.
Cornelius smiled, “Ah, yes. Of course.” He said though his comment was more to tell Severus that the rat in his hat was safely locked away, not that Dumbledore knew that. The minister smiled when an image of the 8 competitors standing in a row came up on the screens. When a crystal butterfly came to him and his image appeared on one screen he smiled. “Time to begin the first round of the Tri-Wizard Tournament!” He announced his voice echoed through the arena and everyone started cheering. “I know! Rita, would you like to announce the teams and ring the bell?” He asked quietly so the butterfly didn’t catch it as he reached into the bag Severus gave him before.
The ‘bell’ that was pulled out of the bag was more like a cross between a gun and horn with a bell. You just hold the handle, pull the trigger and a bar will shoot forward hard enough to ring the bell. A cute and relatively innocent design, but with an unseen twist. No one, except those who saw the device when it was first bought, would even notice that the wooden handle looked darker than usual, that was due to a potion. A potion that will trace anyone who touches it without the gloves that Cornelius was wearing.
Rita lit up and reached down from the reserved section, “I would love to!” She exclaimed as she grabbed the handle. “Oh I love these butterflies!” She said when the butterfly flew along with the device effectively projecting her onto the screen the minister used to be on. She couldn’t resist admiring herself at the screen and giving a saucy pose with the device.
“We’ll use this to randomly pick the teams.” Cornelius said and set a charmed snow globe on the rail of the section. Severus and Brian made a motion to leave the reserved booth type section so the minister could sit in there. After all, Dumbledore took the remaining seat so there was no room for Cornelius. “That’s ok. I’ll go to the competitors’ booth. I can help if there’s an emergency.” Cornelius commented and just smiled as he went down to the lowest section.
With everyone focused on the screen showing the snow globe and Rita no one saw Cornelius check his back. In the bag was another object, but this one was meant to point at the person who touched the handle of the bell. That object, which was a compass, was no longer pointing north. It was pointing at Dumbledore …
“Good.” Cornelius murmured as he secretly handed the compass to an Auror who was in that booth, but hidden by an invisibility cloak. The small sound of a pop told the minister that the Auror apparated away to get everyone ready to track ‘Rita’ down …
