Tigris stepped off the train, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny in tow, "Fir's years this
way." Said a rough, booming voice, and upon finding the source of that voice, Tigris's jaw fell. "That's Hagrid, he's the gamekeeper, "Care Of Magical Creatures" professor, and our friend." Ginny quietly whispered in Tigris's ear. "Wow, I've never seen anyone so big." "Oh, "don't let that fool you," laughed Harry. "He's a big softie." Tigris giggled. "I suppose looks can be deceiving?" "In his case, yes." Laughed Harry again.
The five caught a horseless carriage up to Hogwarts, and during the short jaunt, the four veterans regaled Tigris with tales of Hagrid's many animal adventures including Blast Ended Skrewts ("Nasty Little Buggers.") They soon had her giggling like mad over all the scrapes and misadventures Hagrid had gotten himself into over the years.
When they arrived at the castle, Tigris was pulled aside by a severe looking r lar lady with spectacles, and dark hair worn in a bun. Harry, Ron, Ginny and Hermione gave her a smile as they filed into the Great Hall.
"You must be Tigris, welcome to Hogwarts, I'm Professor McGonagall." Tigris shook her hand. "Hello Professor." "Now, the headmaster and I were discussing arrangements for you earlier, and it is up to you dear as to whether you wish to be sorted with the first years, If you don't feel up to it, we can sort you privately in Professor Dumbledore's office." "I'd prefer the headmaster's office." She said softly. Professor McGonagall smiled. "Alright child, I'll escort you up there now. Professor Dumbledore and I will be there just as soon as the sorting is over."
As she was being led down the many corridors that went to the headmaster's office, Tigris had time to gaze in wonder at the beauty of the castle and let some of the old fear creep back. What if she was sorted into Slytherin or disappointed her family somehow. "Get a grip girl!" she mentally chided herself. "You have no reason to worry, your parents did fine and so will you, you're already making friends."
She was startlut out of her reverie by walking into something soft and bony. She looked up to find Professor McGonagall straightening her robes. "Really Miss Falcon, I know it's your first day, but do try and pay attention to where you're going." Tigris blushed crimson. "Sorry Professor." They were standing in front of a Stone Gargoyle. "Cauldron Cake" Tigris assumed this was a password.
The Gargoyle sprang aside to reveal an escalatoresque staircase. As they stepped on, she didn't have time to worry about where what house she would go into. She was to busy trying to keep her stomach intact. They just kept going up and up until after what seemed like an eternity, they reached a gleaming oak door with a brass knocker in the shape of a Griffin, Professor McGonagall knocked twice ane doe door opened to let them in. "Have a seat Miss Falcon and we'll be with you shortly." Tigris said her thanks and sat down in one of the squishy chairs in front of Professor Dumbledore's desk. Professor McGonagall nodded as well and then stepped out shutting the door behind her.
Tigris began to look around in wonder, what an enchanting place this was. There were little silver things on all the tables, some making noise and some emitting little puffs of smoke. A very large and very pretty antique claw foot desk and behind the door sitting on a golden perch was a gorgeous red-feathered bird. Tigris was enthralled. Quickly getting to her feet, she walked cautiously over to bird and held out her hand. When it didn't peck at her, she began to stroke its beautiful head and began to talk to it. "Well you're a gorgeous creature, it must be nice to live in such an enchanting place." "Ahh." Came a voice from behind her. "I see you've met Fawkes." Tigris whirled around, and standing there was a wizened old wizard with a long silver hair and an even longer silver beard. His eyes were pleasant light blue and twinkled merrily behind his half moon spectacles and he had a long, crooked, nose that looked as though it had been broken many times. Tigris had heard about The great Albus Dumbledore her whole life and was quite happy to finally lay eyes on him.
"Hello sir, He is a beautiful creature, what kind of bird is he?" Dumbledore smiled placidly. "Fawkes is a Phoenix, interesting creatures, their tears have healing powers, they can carry immensely heavy loads and they make very faithful pets." Tigris nodded. Dumbledore clapped his hands together. "Alright, my dear girl, let's get you sorted Minerva if you would?" He said turning to Professor McGonagall who came forward with a patched Shabby looking hat and a stool. "Now if you'll have seat, we'll place the sorting hat on your head and you'll be sorted." Tigris took a deep breath, sat down on the stool and felt the hat being slipped onto her head.
"Mmmm." Said a little voice in her head. "Very intelligent, your mother was a Ravenclaw correct?" "Yes." She thought silently to the hat. "Ahh but a great deal of courage and nerve, father was a Gryffindor?" "Yes." She thought silently again. "A determination to do well, but not so much as to be fanatical and a sweet nature. Hmm" "Hard as you are to place my dear girl, I do believe I'm right when I say GRYFFINDOR!!" it shouted this last word. Tigris sighed in relief and Professor McGonagall smiled.
"Ahh, very good." Said Dumbledore. "Minerva, if you would like to take her down to the feast?" "I'm sure she's anxious to join her housemates." Professor McGonagall nodded to her to follow. "Come along Miss Falcon." "Thank you sir." Tigris said shaking Dumbledore's hand. "Anytime Miss Falcon, Lemon drop?" Tigris grinned, "Yes thank you." She said taking one. After waving good-bye to the headmaster, she followed Professor McGonagall down to the feast to begin her new life at Hogwarts.
