Chapter 3
Jealousy, Anyone?
Hermione was studying the lists that she was making for Draco’s party, when she looked down at Blaise. He was sprawled on the floor next to her bed, eyes closed as he waited for the inevitable problems she was going to have with his plans.
“There is nothing but alcohol on this list of drinks,” she told Blaise, holding out that list so he could see it.
“Really, let me see.” Blaise took it and scanned it, then handed it back saying, “That’s right, cara. I just wanted to make sure that I hadn’t forgotten anything.”
“You have forgotten something. Juice, soda, maybe even water.” She sighed.
“Water, add that to the list, we’ll need that the next day, and also hangover potion. I’m sure Snape is already brewing some for us.” Blaise smiled at her, “Thanks Hermione, you’re being a huge help.”
She rolled her eyes at him, then opened and closed her mouth a few times before asking in a low voice, “Blaise am I the last remaining virgin in our class?” She peeked at him from under her lashes.
“Hermione, I never meant to say that about my first born child. I was just joking to throw Draco off. I apologize.”
“Blaise, you didn’t answer my question,” Hermione looked him right in the eyes this time.
“I don’t know if you’re the last one, I didn’t even know for sure that you really were one until just now. I’d have to check with the bloke who runs the book in Ravenclaw to be sure who’s left.” Blaise made a small note on his pad to check the standings.
“You did not just say that,” Hermione started in an angry tone. “Of all the degrading, chauvinistic, sexist…”
“It may be degrading, but since all the guys are on the list too, I don’t see as how it’s chauvinistic or sexist at all.” Blaise didn’t bat an eyelash, but he was enjoying this more than he should have.
“Really. So who’s left for the guys?” she wanted to know.
“Hermione, I don’t know who is left. But if you want to change your status, I’d be glad to help you.” He gave her a disarming smile, then added, “But let’s pool our money beforehand and get some good odds.”
“You’re just joking, so I refuse to be offended,” she sniffed.
“Hermione, you know I don’t call anyone else at this school cara, right?” he asked her, taking her hand.
“Actually, I’m ashamed to admit, I hadn’t really noticed that,” she admitted with a flush. “I thought it was an Italian thing.”
“It is in Italian, but it is not an Italian thing. I call young ladies signorina,” Blaise met her eyes, but she couldn’t read him. His thumb began a gentle caress over the back of her hand.
Hermione barely knew where to look with Blaise so close to her. Anyone could see how good looking he was, but she was fascinated by the beauty of his hands. Long, elegant fingers, strong but still gentle. She fought the invitation in his eyes. “Blaise, you know you are important to me…” she trailed off.
“Why do I hear a ‘but’ in there?” he shook his head regretfully.
“No,” she denied, “not a ‘but’, an ‘I don’t know what I want’.” She smiled ruefully at him.
“Draco?” he asked, having felt the vibe coming off the two of them when they were together sometimes.
“It’s kind of complicated, Blaise, maybe we should talk about it another time,” Hermione hardly knew what she meant herself, how could she explain to him that she felt drawn to both of them?

Draco had no intention of leaving the common room until he found out what was going on in Hermione’s bedroom. Since no one else had the password to the Head Dorms, the silencing and locking spells were for him. To put it mildly, this made Draco a tad irritated.
Draco sat in the Head Common Room and stared at the same page of his Arithmancy text for at least forty minutes. ‘This is stupid,’ he thought, finally. ‘Hermione and Blaise are my friends; I should just go up there and knock on the door.’ Just when he had resolved to do that very thing, her door opened, and they came out. To his relief, they did not look thoroughly shagged; to his dismay, they were discomfited to see him there on the couch.
Draco looked at them with dark eyes, but he was not the one to break the silence.
“Draco,” Blaise acknowledged, as was his custom. “Good news, I hope.” He nodded at the parchment on the table from his grandfather’s solicitors.
This was Blaise and Hermione he reminded himself. “I don’t know if it’s good or bad. See for yourself.” Draco thrust the parchment into Blaise’s hands so he and Hermione could read it for themselves.
“Jewels?” Hermione queried, “Wouldn’t those be in the Malfoy vaults at Gringotts?”
“All I know is what is in the letter. They seem to think I know what they are talking about. But you know how talkative my father is,” Draco said bitterly.
“Maybe your mother would know,” Hermione started quietly, “if the jewels were cursed in some way, maybe you should tell Monsieur Flom that you don’t want them either.”
Draco smirked at this, right, ask his mother. She hadn’t contacted him for months, when he had made it clear that he was not interested in prostrating himself before that sorry excuse for a wizard, Voldemort. He had always thought that she wasn’t such a huge follower of the Dark Lord, but apparently, he had been wrong. Draco did not like being wrong about anything, but this thing with his mother was breaking his heart.
“If my father refused them, that’s the best reason anyone could have given me for wanting them,” Draco said. “I have no intention of asking my mother. She only wants me to do whatever my father has done before me.”
Blaise and Hermione shared a quick glance over this comment about his mother. All term, he had refused to talk about her at all, which was very unlike him.
Draco eyes grew angry over the shared glance between the other two. Maybe now was the time to clear the air.
“And what sort of mischief have you two been getting up to?” he asked.
No response, only another glance. ‘Okay, that’s it,’ thought Draco.
“I would have thought I would find you somewhere in the Slytherin girl’s dorms tonight, if I was going on your behavior at dinner tonight,” Draco said to Blaise.
Blaise was cool enough to simply raise an eyebrow over this volley. “Oh you mean that little Flint chit. A harmless diversion to pass the time, I assure you.”
Draco looked at Hermione to see if she had any reaction to Lysette Flint, but she seemed serene. ‘Or maybe’, he thought, with a wicked smirk, ‘she doesn’t mind sharing.’
Blaise realized that the sooner he got out of there, the better off he would be. That letter had upset Draco, and he realized his friend was not happy that he had been locked up with Hermione in her bedroom.
“Well, it’s almost curfew. I’ll be scooting along back to the dungeons,” Blaise said.
‘Great, leaving the scene of the crime,’ Hermione thought. But all she said was, “Goodnight Blaise, see you tomorrow.”
Before he walked to the portrait hole, Blaise couldn’t resist giving Hermione a kiss on the cheek and saying, “Goodnight cara, sleep well.”
He looked at Draco and inclined his head, “Draco.” And then he was gone.

MmeFleiss- I did, in fact, know that I was taking liberties with the peerage system. However, since the former Tom Riddle is referred to as Lord Voldemort, when he clearly has no ancestral title, I thought I could get away with it. It works for my
