Still no reviews on this, but I don't care... you're pretty lazy guys. If I were you, I'd review because it's simply a nice gesture. But nevermind - I'm not mad at you since I see that people are still reading this story! :)
A major argument in this chapter, but no smut (sorry to disappoint you!). I can promise you some of it in the next chapter, though, so stay tuned!
Aja, und Lukas - du kannst auch eine review schreiben (muß ja nicht zwingend auf Englisch sein... ^_^). DB!!

Chapter 3
Unreal Ending
Back at home I decided to take a hot bath. Fortunately, there were enough different bathrooms in all parts of the house that I didn’t have to worry about running into Lucius incidentally. After the first few minutes in the water and being surrounded by my favorite scent, I felt those uncomfortable thoughts about Lucius creeping into my mind, so I dived under the surface to get rid of them. Not even five seconds later, however, I felt a strong hand gripping the back of my neck, pulling my head above water again. Lucius was kneeling right next to the huge bathtub and the look in his eyes scared me since I had never seen them so full of fear. With an angry expression on my face I pushed his hands away from me to lean back against the tub.
"Are you completely insane? You scared the hell out of me!", I hissed at him, still confused about his behavior.
"I thought you were going to drown yourself", he simply answered in a quiet tone.
An awkward silence followed his words.
"For fuck’s sake, that’s the most stupid excuse I’ve ever heard", I finally stated with anger in my voice, "I want to be left in peace at least when I’m taking a bath."
Lucius raised an eyebrow questioningly.
"In other words: Fuck off!"
That comment didn’t actually get the best of him. Instead, I saw his eyes flashing as he got up with a quick and smooth movement, glaring down at me with a look that would have scared even Voldemort himself to death.
"You are playing with fire, Vivienne. Don’t start an argument with me", his warning voice came to my ear, before he turned to leave the bathroom. And that very moment my mouth refused to let my brain think first which hadn’t been happening to me in over 30 years.
"I’m leaving you, Lucius."
My words sounded like a painful crush of waves against some deadly rocks. And worse, they sounded definitely. Suddenly it felt very cold around us.
Lucius had stopped dead in his tracks after hearing my voice. It took him an unusually long moment until he composed himself again. Without any word or gesture he simply left the bathroom and the door shut itself behind him noiselessly. There I sat in the cold water, unable to breathe and especially unable to realize what had just happened. My fingers went numb as they reached for the towel and I found it difficult to close them around the soft fabric. A knock on the door made me flinch.
"Do you want me to bring you anything after your bath, Miss?", one of the maid’s voice asked.
I opened my mouth to only find out that my voice was gone. It felt like I myself had completely gone anyway. Finally I managed to bring out a few words, though, without even knowing what they meant. Fading foot steps assured me that the maid was leaving again. Goosebumps formed on my skin, but I refused to take a look at the mirror because I already knew what would be awaiting me. Not exactly very needful at the moment, I decided and started dressing. What the hell was I doing here anyway? Putting up with humans, wanting to live a normal life. Wait, a normal life? This was not the normal life – this was human and simply ridiculous. The normal one, however, was outside in the woods, the rivers, the desert and in places far, far away that bid no humans welcome. I had sacrificed all of that for a world that didn’t deserve to still be alive. And still… people had taken me between them, had offered me friendship and love. Did I own them? I sighed angrily. Those thoughts weren’t quite helpful at the moment, either.
I left the bathroom, ignoring the icicles hanging from the ceiling and the snow that covered the sink and bathtub like a thick layer of confectioner’s sugar. In the corridor outside I suddenly had no clue where to go. The whole mansion felt like a gigantic maze that kept me locked up inside although the only thing I wanted to do was get out. Unfortunately – or rather thankfully, considering the lost situation I was in – I nearly bumped into Narcissa two corners later. Noticing my confused condition, she gave me a warm smile that was something rare about Narcissa Malfoy.
"You look like you need help, Vivienne."
"Indeed", I confessed, "I can’t find the way out. Honestly, I can’t find any way at all. Where am I?"
Her friendly expression turned into a stern one.
"You don’t find the way out?", she asked and something like alert lay in her voice. Any further questions were prevented by an excited maid running toward us, trying to catch her breathe as she came to a halt in front of Narcissa.
"Madam! I’m… the room… it’s cold…", she stammered.
I recognized her voice as the one that had asked me something I couldn’t remember when I had been in the bathroom. Narcissa’s usually cold and formal expression returned at the maid’s senseless words.
"Calm down", she commanded, "Now repeat that in a way that other people are able to understand it as well!"
The maid took a few deep breaths until she started again.
"Madam, I wanted to change the towels in the first bathroom on this corridor, but when I entered it", her eyes opened widely, "there was winter inside it."
"Winter", Narcissa repeated as if she wanted to make sure she had understood correctly.
"Yes, Madam. It was bitter cold there and I saw icicles hanging from the ceiling. And it even snowed!"
There was a small pause and I noticed how Narcissa was thinking hard until she managed an arrogant smile.
"My son must have tried some new spells he learned at school", she explained then calmly, "Just clean the bathroom and turn on the heating for a while."
I wasn’t sure if the maid truly believed her, but she left anyway. Hogwarts never taught its students how to do winter in a magical way. Besides, seasons weren’t among the things you could control with a spell for they were something natural that had to be the same year after year. Honestly, if there had been any spells for or against the weather – would you really expect it’d still be raining that often in London?
Narcissa took a closer look at me, until her gaze finally remained on my right shoulder. I turned my head to see what caused her interest and sighed as I spotted a little amount of snow on my hooded sweater.
"Such a strange coincidence", she stated, "You got lost and it’s winter in one of the bathrooms."
"A very strange coincidence, indeed", I agreed, but knew very well that Narcissa was not stupid at all.
"Don’t you think we should talk?"
Talking. Pretty much the last thing I wanted to do at the moment.
"No. There’s nothing that needs to be talked about."
"Nothing?", Narcissa inquired, "You just controlled the weather inside a bathroom, Vivienne. As far as I know, Sephors only cause such events when they are very emotional or moved."
"Correct."
"You are hurt. I can see it even if you try to hide it from me."
"What is it with you Malfoys being so damned stubborn?", I growled while folding my arms. It wasn’t like I stood a chance anyway and she knew it. Another expectant look and I almost hissed at her although I didn’t mean to let out my anger and pain on Narcissa.
"You want to know what happened? I left that arrogant, egoistic and bossy bastard that you called your husband once. And the real problem about it is that I can’t find the way out to actually leave him because I’m lost."
Narcissa didn’t make any move to interrupt me although I had never seen her face like that. It was a mixture between shock, disbelief and pity.
"I didn’t mean to bring winter into the bathroom. I didn’t even notice until I left it. And I can’t control that. It just… happened. Are you content now?"
She didn’t answer but seemed to struggle for words. I couldn’t quite blame her.
"What did he do?", she finally managed to get out.
"A lot of things. Above anything, however, he is Lucius Malfoy. That’s what he did."
I admired Narcissa that very moment for having been married once to Lucius and giving birth to their only child. How she had been able to bear it for so long, however, was a miracle in my opinion. When I looked at her face again, I suddenly remembered the way out. It was like a huge blindfold came off my eyes.
"Finally", I sighed with relief and tried to get past Narcissa, but she gently laid a hand on my left arm.
"You broke him, Vivienne", she said softly and we both knew she spoke the truth. I should have been proud of having broken a man like Lucius Malfoy who I was sure no one had ever managed to break, but if that was what success felt like, then I decided I didn’t enjoy it. And against my will, my brain forced my mouth to open and speak.
"Where is he?"
"I don’t know. But you will feel it."
Giving me such a cryptic answer, Narcissa smiled one last time and left. I didn’t know whether to feel stupid or enlightened, but a furry thing that pressed against my legs distracted me quite quickly. Xerxes was there, obviously complaining about a lot of things as he continued meowing. And worse – I simply left him without a friendly word because there were more important things on my mind than a cat in a bad mood. After all, my mood wasn’t the best, either.
I finally found Lucius on the roof. To my own surprise, I had suddenly felt that he was up there without being able to explain why I did. How the hell had Narcissa been able to know that?
Night had fallen in meanwhile and the view over London that greeted me from the roof of Malfoy Mansion was overwhelming. For the first time in years I didn’t hate the town beneath my feet as much as usual. Speaking about Lucius, however, I wasn’t so sure about developing a new and nice approach. He sat on the black tiles next to one chimney, gazing into the dark night. I realized he suddenly looked very old in the moonlight that favored him normally. Lucius was ageless – one of the many reasons why women fancied him – but right now it was easy guessing his true age. And seeing him that vulnerable and different suddenly made me realize I loved this man, no matter what he did or how he acted. I wasn’t ready to give anything up already. In my mind, I still had an icy image of a hard winter, but the snow had started falling down quietly. It wasn’t that painful anymore since my rage subsided to make place for sensibility. Narcissa’s words came to my mind again. You broke him. So this was the broken Lucius Malfoy. Great job, Vivienne. What’s next? Putting him on a leash, selling him on the market? Merlin, I was an idiot. I deserved a decent place in an asylum near London more than I did deserve a man like Lucius.
"Idiot", I thought until I realized that I had spoken those words out loud since Lucius turned his head. Suddenly I realized how much I missed those little gestures and movements like the raising of his eyebrow when he didn’t do them.
"We need to talk", I simply explained as I came toward him, sitting down on the black tiles. And then… silence. Like there was nothing to be said and still so much we didn’t need words for anyway. Beneath us the noises of London seemed to fly far away, but I forgot about them when I heard the sound of Lucius’ voice. The coolness in it nearly cut through the air.
"The day I found out what you truly were, I remembered the old stories about Sephors and I wondered what would be possible to achieve with you. Such a lot of power with so little effort. All I would have had to do was getting your trust to finally put a spell on you. Defenseless, vulnerable and broken – I could have had you as my personal slave for all my needs."
Never before had Lucius talked about those thoughts. I had always supposed the existence of similar ones on his mind, but to actually hear them right now put me into a state of surprise and fear.
"I wasted exactly one moment on the possibilities", he continued gently, "Afterwards, I got to know the fear of losing you to someone who wouldn’t hesitate doing it. There are many of them. Voldemort himself would give anything to own you. Not just for power, but…"
His voice trailed off and Lucius closed his eyes. It was better to not talk about what Voldemort would do to me if he had me. Alone the thought disgusted both of us. I moved closer to Lucius – mainly because I was cold, I tried to convince myself. It was a poor excuse, though.
"He won’t have you", Lucius stated suddenly in a tone that made sure he didn’t accept any contradiction or discussion about it, "Not even over my dead body."
"It’s no excuse for your behavior today, though", I finally managed to get out. The ground beneath my feet got dangerous. But even while being aware of that fact, I still wanted to say what had been on my mind for already too long. Ignoring Lucius’ sinister look, I continued.
"I understand what you’re doing, Lucius. And don’t get me wrong – I highly appreciate your protection and power, no doubt. But I’m not weak at all. There are so many things I see and understand each day you can’t even notice because of how human you are. We are very different. And it’s not our fault. I know we try to get along with it… even if it’s not successful sometimes. I also know you only want the best. But no one except for you, Narcissa, Dumbledore and McGonagall knows what I am. Not even Draco. Not even my friends. I want to live a life like anyone else. The more you shield me from them, the more you make us suspicious. People aren’t that dumb, Lucius. And many of them do actually know about the old stories and myths."
Meanwhile, the ground beneath me had turned into a much safer one.
"You know I fell for you because of your arrogance and your ruthless supremeness in the first place."
A growling protest came from Lucius as his hand closed around the back of my neck in a firm grip. One of his little hints to better reconsider the next words before speaking again. I didn’t have to, though.
"You are bossy, arrogant, moody, egoistic and absolutely supreme in anything you do. But you’re also a powerful wizard and unbelievably attractive. As much as I hate to admit that… I like it when you’re having power over me. Not in all daily situations, of course, but there are some that get quite a certain thrill through it."
The grip on my neck softened as his fingers painted little invisible circles on my skin. My head fell back when Lucius’ lips pressed against the most vulnerable part of my throat.
"So I take it you’re not leaving me this time?", he asked, retreating slightly.
"No", I shook my head, desperately wanting his lips back on my skin, "But I’m not playing with those words, Lucius."
"I know. We need arrangements."
Somehow I had expected him to start a long discussion by now, but he simply got up and straightened his clothes.
"You’re coming?", he asked me before he returned to the stairs that led back down into the mansion.
"Didn’t you say we need arrangements, Lucius?"
"We’re going to have arrangements, Vivienne."
I frowned at his cryptical comment, before he turned to face me.
"We’re going to have special arrangements, Vivienne…"
A wicked smile followed his words.
