Chapter 2 Snake Bites
It wasn’t long before the whispers of Alice’s entrance were echoing off the wall, everyone was already aware of her cold demeanor and made it a point to keep their distance from her. But this however did not keep them from speaking of her, coming up with their own stories of why she was here. This was especially a popular past time by the first years who found such an event to be quite interesting since they were not use to the magical world. They would continue chatting long into the class period and this of course would get them in quite a deal of trouble. The others students were not as enthusiastic as the first years but were equally interested in this new student’s appearance. But like most schools a lot of the rumors that clouded the minds of these children were not very pleasant, in fact many of them were quite horrid and cruel, but we won’t get into that just right now.
Alice wondered through the darkness of the halls, her snow white hair flowed behind her, resembling the snow on a cold winters night. Her Winter Blue eyes seemed to glow each time the moon glimpsed her. The walls seemed to bend back as if trying to keep their distance, the floor beneath this cold figure stiffened as if freezing over at her passing. The shadows seem to sway and move away from her and warn anything they could of her passing. The room itself seem shift and shutter as she entered, she was where she shouldn’t be, she was up past her curfew but she cared little. What were they going to do? Waste her time and a teacher’s time just a little bit more? She rolled her eyes, how pathetic their punishment system was, she could think of more creative things to do than just clean a room or something like that. She glanced around, wondering where it was she had gotten herself now. This room didn’t resemble any of the other rooms she had come across before…It had a sinister feel about it, the way the shadows in the room moved didn’t seem at all normal, the objects seemed disoriented as if twisted by some sort of ungodly force. She walked further into the room, her skin began to craw and the hair stood up on her arms…what was in this room? None of the teachers had spoken of the room…she had not even heard whispers of its existence…She shuttered softly. The further she walked the more intense the feeling became and the more darker the room was. She glanced around, irritation was what she felt right now. What was in this room…She got to the other side of the room when everything began to heave and shake violently, vases shattered where they sat and books took flight into the air…
What the hell is this?!That was the last thought she had before she felt herself being lifted off the ground and tossed out of the room like a rag doll. The large doors in front of her slammed shut and everything went dead still, and eerie calm washed over the castle…What had just happened and why had it happened to her? She slowly stood up and backed away from the doors…what ever had been in that room had not wanted her there. She stopped herself and tried to open the doors and low growling came from beyond the doors. She backed away and left the room. Once Alice was back in the halls, she ventured into the dungeons, there was bound to be something interesting about this place. She passed the potions room and pushed the door open and glanced it, no one was there so she wondered in and glanced around, the room had a dead calm about it, something was dark about this room, might been because of the other presence in the room which was Severus whom was looming in his storage closet unaware that someone else as entered at such an hour. He was looking for something ease his scattered mind, Sleep never came to him without a fight. It was always a struggle to keep his dreams from eating him alive. He mumbled a spell to turn on the light in the closet, he ran his fingers over the bottles, poisons and other such things lined the shelves of his closet. Alice glanced at the light had come on and she backed out of the room, she had no desire to have a run in with him this late in the night. She walked down to the cobble stones quietly, there were no more doors and the hall ways grew darker by the moment. The only thing that suggested there might be something down this was, was a flicker of light. She carefully moved down toward the light which lead into a room…she didn’t know this had been here. But once she stepped in the room, she had a very good idea of who’s room it was. The bed was a four post bed, with black sheets and drapery surrounding it. The room had only one window which over saw the lake and Dark Forest. His room was quite empty save for a bed, some books here and there, a trunk, and some clothing scattered about. She glanced about, nothing too extraordinary about the room so she turned to leave but then gold glint caught her eye. She turned around, a strange looking box sat in the corner, she frowned and went toward it slowly. She touched the box and it opened slowly and sucked her in.
She was standing in a dusty old room, there was a boy in the corner, he was pacing back and forth as if he irritated. He glanced out the window and clutched his stomach, falling to his knees, he began to cry out and pull at his clothing feverishly, scratching at his own skin…Alice found this behavior to be quite odd until he turned transformed into a werewolf…the monster stood before her on his hind legs and howled at the moon. He sniffed the air and looked about, he growled and clawed at the door a bit then went to the window, looking for a way out no doubt…She sat there and watched him with a curious fascination. The wolf before her whimpered a bit and scratched at the windows more but was un able to break through the charms that had no doubt been placed on them. She glanced behind her when she heard the door creak and open slowly, a dark eyed boy glanced in and gasped slightly but the noise had got the werewolf’s attention and he turned at the boy and charged at him. Alice thought for sure this boy was going to be ripped apart. The wolf growled viscously as he knocked the partly door open, the boy was thrown back and into the hall. He was doomed and he knew it, he tried to fumble and get his found out to save himself but the wolf knocked the wound from his hand and snarled dangerously and went in to rip his throat out but a boy from the shadows shouted a spell at the werewolf and he yelped and ran down the stairs and out into the woods. The boy on the floor swears loudly, angry tears sliding down his cheeks, “God Damn Sirius, I’m going to kill him! Did he send you here James to make me look more like a fool?!” James shook his head and tried to calm him down, “No, I came down here as quickly as I could when I figured out what he was going to done to you. I trust Remus didn‘t hurt you before I was able to get here Severus.” Alice stood there watching, she was trying to sort all this out in her head when she was suddenly pulled out.
She stood there, letting her eyes adjust to the darkness when she felt a hand on her shoulder squeeze hard and push her up against the wall, an all too familiar voice shouted angrily, “HOW DARE YOU INVADE MY PRIVACY, HOW DARE YOU LOOK INTO MY PENSIVE!” He continued to shout at her angrily but she pushed him from her mind and now all she could hear was noise, nothing but noise…and in the end, to her that’s all anyone ever made, was noise. They never made since to her, the logic they tried to impose on her…It was all just noise, nothing but noise. She was looking up at Severus as he shouted at her, everything seemed to be going slow motion, she seemed to be able to notice everything, his hair was actually tied back, his skin was quite pale under the moonlight, almost a ghostly white…He was wearing a loose fitting black shirt and that was all she could see of him…and his eyes were darker than ever, filled with unbearable rage. She heard bits and pieces of what it was he was shouting but the words soon slipped away into nothing, if she tried to listen she would over flow and something might happen but she didn’t know what. She stared up into nothing and soon Severus stopped shouting, something seem to unnerve him but Alice didn’t notice, she wasn’t really there anymore. He stared down into her eyes and nothing was there…not fear, not remorse, not anger…Her eyes were empty, they held no emotion, not even a shadow of one. He grabbed her and shoved her out of his room and slammed the door shut. She tried to speak out but it was too late…the damage was done.
