A/N: So, our Severus
is now sixteen, an unwilling Gryffindor, and a fellow student of The Gang who
happens to retain his might powers of Point Deduction…our small friends had best
behave themselves!
**************************************************************
Dumbledore announced the new arrival that morning at
breakfast. The Slytherins stood and
craned their necks to get a look at the newest Gryffindor, whispering about how
much he resembled their Head of House, and speculating on what illness had
befallen their favorite teacher. Malfoy
sauntered over to introduce himself and was very pleased to discover that
Septimus Prince would much rather be in Slytherin, inviting the other “boy”
back to his table. Severus/Septimus took
the offer with a pointed glare for Hermione, much to the dismay of Seamus. “It’s too bad! He’s so big that he could have beaten that
little git into the ground,” he moaned.
The other girls in the Hall all stared at the tall, broad-shouldered
young man, giggling and whispering behind their hands about how dark and
mysterious he seemed.
Minerva’s lips compressed into nothingness as she observed
the girl’s chatter and Severus’ move to the Slytherin table. “I had no choice, really…no one asked me what House I was interested in,”
Septimus was saying to his new table-companions. Hermione gulped her pumpkin juice and toast
at top speed, hurrying off to the library as soon as she was done. She did more research on reversing certain
spells and it became a routine for her, searching texts while trying to attend
classes that invariably contained the bane of her days, constantly harassing
her about her progress. The holidays approached, and Hermione was a little
closer to her goal…Dumbledore met with her and instructed that Snape was to
accompany her back into Muggle London and stay with her until a cure was
found. After fortifying herself on
sympathy from Harry, Ron and Ginny, she took the professor back to her house
and introduced him to her parents as an exchange student she had agreed to help
out, and hadn’t she told them about it earlier?
Her parents were impressed at the impeccable manners of the young
Septimus, and encouraged Hermione’s interaction with him.
They managed to settle their differences during two days of
intense argument and mutual hair pulling – Severus was so surprised at her
physical assault that he began laughing at the sight of the tiny Gryffindor
stamping her feet and growling…he fancied that he could see sparks shoot from
her lovely brown eyes. He had always
enjoyed it when she was furious; he had never quite…seen her before. He now
couldn’t help but notice the care she took with her bushy chestnut hair, trying
her best to tame the riotous curls with potions and spells (most of the time it
actually worked) and the charming way her eyes took on a dreamy look whenever
she saw a book she hadn’t read before.
Part of him was shocked that he would even think of a student in such a
manner, but then, he was a student as well...for a while, at least.
Hermione, for her part, had overcome much of her fear of the
forbidding Potions Master. She actually began to enjoy his company and laugh at
his dry comments when they conversed…she felt herself inexplicably drawn to
him. She secretly thought that he was
very handsome, with that long black hair over that pale, pale skin. And his voice…like black velvet and dark chocolate,
deep and rich – he altered it when talking to others who didn’t know his
predicament. She worked on his problem
in earnest, and he helped her narrow the list of possible potions down to three
before they had to return to Hogwarts. Nearly
everyone was surprised at how the two had resolved their differences (Severus
had told Hermione that he appreciated that she would try to help Tonks with her
problem, even though he bore the brunt of the mistake) and spent so much time
together. Ron was extremely displeased
with this turn of events, but forbore to mention them in situations where
points might be taken from him… those happened anyway, Snape having nothing
better to do.
“Look at them, studying together! Makes me sick,” Ron
announced to Harry, who didn’t appear to be listening. “HARRY!
Pay attention! Did you hear what I said?”
Harry tore his eyes away from Ginny, who was discussing
Arithmancy with Snape and Hermione. “Hunh?
Yeah, sure…not jealous, are you?” A
snort from his best friend made him smile.
“Okay, then what’s your problem?”
“It just isn’t right,” huffed Ron as he attempted to finish
his essay on Hinkypunks.

Severus and Hermione walked through the Grounds slowly,
Hermione having informed him that the potion was now ready. He shook his black hair back from his eyes
and looked down at the witch who was now avoiding looking at him as they
stopped by a tall oak tree.. “What’s
wrong, Hermione?”
She looked up at him with an expression in her eyes that he’d
never seen there before. “It’s nothing,
I just-well, after today, you’ll drink the potion and be older again, right?” Severus nodded, waiting. “I guess that I’ll miss you because we’re
both students now but you’ll be you again and I think I may love you and what
do I do now,” she finished in a rush, dropping her eyes to her toes and
blushing to the roots of her hair.
Severus stood frozen, shocked to his very soul. She loved him? She was a student! He was a teacher! He was twenty years older
than she was! Well, normally, at least!
The strange feeling that had begun to come over him whenever she was
near suddenly classified itself in his head.
His legs went out from under him and he slid down the trunk of the tree
to sit down heavily. “Oh, no.
Shit. No. No.” He pushed a shaking
hand through his wind-tangled hair.
Hermione stepped back and stared at the upper branches in mortification. “I’m sorry, sir, I should have never said
anything,” she started, her face a deep scarlet. “I-I’ll go now.” She whirled to run back to Gryffindor Tower
and scream into her pillow, making only a few strides before Severus/Septimus
caught her and pulled her back into the shade of the tree. They stood staring at each other until he
suddenly leaned down and slanted his mouth over hers. Breaking apart just as abruptly with heaving
chests and wide eyes, they gawked at each other. Then they came together once more, kissing
eagerly as Hermione grasped fistfuls of his silky black hair and he seized her
by the waist, pulling her against his body firmly.
Hermione was in heaven, in the strong arms of her beloved
professor. She came up for air and heard
him mutter, “We need to stop now. This is far beyond inappropriate.” She agreed
fervently as she reached for him again.
Ronald Weasley certainly had nothing on Severus Snape, she thought
dreamily as she grabbed his hands and brought them to her breasts. Her thoughts were rudely interrupted as he
jerked away, having divined where his hands were being taken. “Hermione, NO!” His black eyes were
wide as he backed off. “This is wrong,
how could I…? Oh, no,” he groaned,
rubbing one hand against his forehead in distress.
Her eyes filled with tears as his features settled into the
familiar coldness she had seen ever since she was a first year. She wiped her eyes angrily with a sleeve as
he demanded the potion, and she fled into the castle. He followed much more slowly, shocked at what
he had done. He could easily be fired for
it, he realized. Had anyone seen them
kissing? He lengthened his stride,
determined to take the potion and return to his normal state of existence. He ignored the greetings and hopeful glances
of the other female students on his way to the common room, and once there, he
found the flask sitting on the table with Hermione nowhere in sight. Uncorking the bottle, he drank it quickly,
grimacing at the taste – she had probably slipped something disgusting in there
just to get back at him – and felt the change begin. He watched his face in a mirror and saw the
small age lines appear at the corners of his eyes, his face grow thinner, and
his hair grow a trifle longer. Severus noted that he regained his usual seven
feet, and felt the Dark Mark on his arm throb as it reappeared. He inspected his mirror-self in satisfaction,
and a small gasp made him turn. Hermione
stood there with red eyes, holding out the Potions book that she had used. “This is yours, sir,” she said, sniffling a
little.
Severus stepped over to her and accepted the tome silently,
looking down into her face. His heart
contracted as he saw the track marks of her tears on her cheek, and another
tear slid down her face as she stared up at him. Without thinking, he lifted his hand to cup
her cheek and wipe the tear away gently with his thumb. She closed her eyes and leaned her face
against his hand, more tears leaking from beneath her long eyelashes. He pulled
his robes up slightly so that he could kneel in front of her, both hands
cradling her face now. “Don’t cry,
Hermione, please don’t – not for me,” he said weakly. “I’m not worth your tears, believe me.”
She opened her eyes and gazed at him. “But you are.
You might be older than I am, and wiser, and all that crap, but I know
that I love you. You have no choice in
the matter,” she said sternly, raising her hands to cover his. “Take as many points away from me you want,
but I will still love you. Yell at me,
scold me, tell me I’m an insufferable know-it-all, I don’t care. I will love you even as you do these things.”
Severus smiled at the insistent little witch. Trust her to remember a title he had given
her years before. “As crazy as it is,
Miss Hermione Granger, I think I believe you.
You have ensnared me good and proper, and made me realize that I might
have a heart after all…a bit cruel for you to have stolen it before I knew it
even existed, but then, you always have gone after what you wanted.” Her expression was like watching dawn
break. “However. It is unseemly for us to even think of
continuing any sort of relationship. You
are sixteen. I am almost forty. If, at the age of eighteen, you still feel….something….for me, we can take it from
there. But I cannot, in all conscience,
allow what happened outside to occur again, do you understand?”
Hermione laughed, nodding her head. “But I thought that Slytherins never paid
attention to the rules,” she needled, unable to help herself. A stern frown answered her.
“In this case, it
is what an honorable man would do, Slytherin heritage notwithstanding. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I believe I have
duties to attend to, not to mention homework to turn in,” Severus said slyly,
waiting for her reaction. She giggled in
response and pointed to the exit.
“Get out of here, then. No Slytherins allowed in Gryffindor Tower,” she laughed as he made his
escape. So, he didn’t think she would
wait for him? He had a few things left to learn about Hermione Emmaline
Granger.

A/N: Okay, Emmie, I
just couldn’t help myself, lol. Hermioneandseverusfan82,
would you mind terribly if I borrowed that hilarious name, “The Dirty Dungeon”
for use later on in the story? You’d get
full credit, of course…please let me know if this is okay. Thanks!
