A/N: Ok bear with me here. I really like old-fashioned dresses. I thank all my reviewers. Some of your questions can't be answered 'cause that would give things away. As always thanks goes to my Betas akathryna and Alianne.
Chapter 3 Clothes?
Hermione tried to ignore the banging on the door to her chambers. Unfortunately, whoever was at the door was getting louder with every knock. Giving up she rolled out of bed and stormed to the door. She was going to make whoever it was pay. She threw open the door with a glare on her face that would have made Molly Weasley proud. It only made Severus Snape smirk at her. His eyes scanned her from head to toe, suddenly making her aware of the fact that all she had on was a flimsy nightgown.
“What the bloody hell do you want?” She snapped while putting her hands on her hips. This had always made Ron and Harry back down. Nevertheless, she was not dealing with them.
“Well, if you keep standing there like that I might change my mind as to why I’m here,” he purred seductively. He actually had to bite his lip to keep from laughing as she blanched white and darted into her changing room. “Melody, would you please give this dress to your lady and help her get it on?” he said to the handmaiden.
Melody timidly stepped out of the shadows in the hall where she had been hiding. Most Lords would not have even noticed her there, yet this one had. She smiled at him and took the dress box out of his hands. She quickly followed Hermione into the dressing room. She set the box down on one of the tables in the room and opened it.
“Oh, it’s gorgeous!” Melody exclaimed as she held up the underdress for Hermione to see. It was light green with long flowing sleeves. The neckline was V-ed with dark green beads embellishing it. The whole thing felt like pure silk.
Hermione walked over and pulled out the over dress. It was beautiful silver velvet with green snakes embroidered around the neck and hem. It was light so as not to weigh down the wearer but the thickness was enough to keep her warm. This had to have cost him a pretty penny. “It’s beautiful,” she whispered.
“And look my Lady. Matching cape and boots.” Melody almost squealed.
Severus smiled to himself as he listened to them commenting over the dress. He knew it would complement Hermione’s hair and eyes perfectly. It would also make her mad since it was pure Slytherin. He had enough patience to wait while they examined it.
Hermione set the dress carefully back into the box. It was beautiful but she would be damned if she would let anyone tell her what to do. Yes, she was even willing to fight the bat of the dungeons. “Melody, would you please get my blue dress out? I’ll be wearing that one today.”
“You’ll wear the dress I gave you, Hermione,” Snape interjected from the next room. He was starting to get annoyed. “Do hurry, we have a lot to do today.”
“I will not be ordered to do something. I would not wear anything you gave me no matter how beautiful it was.” She appeared at the door to her changing room so she could face him as she argued with him.
“You only have two choices here, Hermione. You can go back in there and let Melody help you into the dress I bought you.” He took a step closer to her and dropped his voice down suggestively. “Or I’ll help you into it. Then we’ll be here all day and we have things to do.” He allowed himself a small smile as she bolted back into her dressing room.

“So he then threatened to dress her if she didn’t do it herself.” Melody was telling the crowd of servants in the kitchen. “It’s the fastest I’ve seen a lady get dressed before.” Everyone in the kitchen burst into laughter.
“They’ll be married by Christmas,” the cook said with a knowing nod.
“No way! I saw them in the hall when she first arrived. Not only were they fighting but also he pushed her into her rooms. They’ll kill each other first!” a page exclaimed.
“Nah, she’ll kiss him before that,” someone piped in.
The room descended into chaos as people started arguing about the outcome of what was happening with Severus and Hermione. More servants had heard the commotion and had come into the kitchen to listen and join in. It was getting crowded and loud.
“Enough!” The cook said in a booming voice that left no room for argument. The room quieted instantly. “Since everyone has an opinion on this, how about some friendly betting? Melody here can keep us informed of the outcome. Personally I place two silver pieces on him kissing her first.” The servants started to make the wagers and discuss the possible outcome.

Hermione had not spoken to him for the entire carriage ride to town. When he had offered her his hand to help her down from the carriage she had refused it. She was even pretending that she did not like the dressmaker fawning over her, or the wonderful material she was being shown.
“I’ll even pay you double what ever price you name if you can make red and gold look good on her.” He was teasing but also hoping she would see it as the flag of truce he wanted it to be.
The dressmaker kept having her assistants hold up one piece of material after the other to Hermione. She would then stare intently for several minutes before making several sketches in her book. It had been three hours of this, poking and prodding, not to mention measuring, when Hermione had had it.
“Enough! Next person who touches me will regret it!” She snapped as she stepped down from the stool they had her standing on. She glared at Snape as she went to stand by him.
“Would you like a chair or will my lap suffice?” Snape was enjoying how she looked when she was angry.
“I’ll take the chair my lord. At your age, you need to be careful about hurting yourself. Men your age don’t heal as fast as us younger folk.” Hermione cooed sweetly. “Shouldn’t we head back soon? It’s almost time for your nap.”
Snape growled softly as she sat down next to him and started looking at the sketches. He then leaned over and whispered in her ear, “They say with age comes experience.”
Hermione had a sudden image of the two of them entangled in the sheets of her bed, and had to shake her head to get the image to leave her. “But Professor, there are not any potions here for impotence. How would you ever perform?”
Snape smiled at her in a way that sent shivers up her spine and made her slightly scared all at once. “Hermione, my dear, I thought you had learned by now not to challenge a Slytherin.” He had to bite his cheek to keep from laughing at the look of horror that crossed her face.

Hermione groaned at the gaudy jewellery that was being shown to them. This was the third store they had been to and had yet to find what Snape wanted. He had ordered at least five pieces from each store but swore he was looking for something in particular. He also said she had to have a piece of jewellery for each of the twelve dresses he had ordered.
She was tired and hungry. She glared at Snape who was ignoring her. ‘How could he not be hungry? He is a toothpick for crying out loud?’ She thought. ‘Romance novel my arse. More like a horror story.’
“Only if you make it one.” Snape whispered into her ear sending shivers down her spine.
“Stay out of my mind or I’ll break that beak you call a nose.” Hermione hissed at him.
“Resorting to idle threats?” He asked from over her shoulder. “That seems low even for a Gryffindor.”
“Ask your darling Draco how idle of a threat it is.” She turned away from him and headed to the door. “I am going back to the castle. You can go jump off a cliff.” With that, she was out the door and in the carriage before he could respond. She was fuming as she told the driver to leave and not to stop for Lord Severus.
‘How dare he invade my mind like that?!’ She thought. ‘How could he? So far magic hasn’t worked in this stupid book.’ She need to think, and the evening meal with a very annoyed Severus was not the place to do it.
