Title: Find A Word
Rating: PG-13
Warning: Swear Words.
Pairing: Harry x Draco, Hermione x Ron
Author’s Notes: I’m really sorry that this chapter has taken so
long to come out. When aff started re-doing things
and moving around I got a little frustrated and decided to wait until it
settled, and than when it settled it had something wrong with it’s HP section.
So I came back today to check it out and everything seems okay. So I’m back,
and I have six chapters to upload for this story, I’ll do them over a few weeks.
Thanks heaps for the reviews. I really
do appreciate it.

Chapter
Three: Rumour
He
was burning. Thrashing under his covers he kicked them off, leaving his body
that was just covered in grey long pyjama pants, open for the cool air to
touch. The cold and damp air of the dungeons touched his bare skin, making him
sigh in relief and close his eyes.
It
was really hot.
Opening
his eyes after a brief few minutes of enjoying the cool air, Draco glanced over
to the clock. It was five, too early to be awake.
He
had been awake for almost an hour now, twisting in the bed and trying to ignore
the building heat that in the end was suffocating him. Sweat was beading over
his forehead and upper lip and over his chest and back, making him feel sticky
and uncomfortable. He didn’t know why he should be so hot, it was still winter
meaning it was still cold and snowing outside, and the dungeons would be the
last place one would go to warm up, yet here he was toasting.
He
coughed.
He
had a cold! Or he was getting one… In any case if he was getting so hot because
of this cold, then that would explain a lot of the heating up.
Now
if only sleep would come and take him away for two hours.
Rolling
onto his stomach he leaned over his bedside table and grabbed his wand, pulling
back he muttered the lumos spell and blinked as the dim light filled his sight.
Holding his wand a little higher he scanned the room and finally spotting
something that would keep him occupied until sleep came to him or the alarm
bell went off. He waved his wand and without saying his wishes out loud (he
decided he needed more practice in that area of spell casting). He did the same
to summon a quill that sat on Crabbe’s bedside table.
The
book flew to him from Blaise’s bedside table – They had been working on another
‘find a word’ together before they decided to head to bed.
Catching
the book easily he flicked it open and began to search for the one he had been
working through.
Once
he found the page he skimmed over the words that were uncrossed until he found
a word that he thought would be easy enough to find: Attraction.
Looking
to the find a word he skimmed over it, looking back and forth between the
columns, it only took him a minute or so before he found the word running
backwards up the left side of the find a word box.
Next
word.
Draco
spent something close to an hour on the find a word, every now and again when
he’d get stuck on a word he flipped the page and worked on another find a word,
but in the end he’d come back to it and find the word easily, but now that
method didn’t seem to be working.
Where
on earth could the word ‘Rumour’ be hiding?
He
tried squinting, tapping each letter as he passed it, saying the letters aloud
as he passed them, he even tried rolling onto his back and holding the book at
arms length above him and still he couldn’t spot the word ‘Rumour.’
Perhaps
they writer had a typo? Or perhaps they suffered from Alzheimer’s and forgot
all about that word… That was a possibility.
Rolling
back onto his stomach he brushed his fringe behind his ear and continued to
read through it, determined that this time he would find it.
He
didn’t.
“Draco?”
A murmured and tired groan sounded, making the blonde look up and over to
Blaise’s bed. The boy was sitting up looking back at him; his hair tussled
around his dark face. “What are you doing?” He yawned and grabbed a pillow and
nuzzled into it, though he kept his eyes open and over to the blonde.
“I
can’t sleep” Draco replied as he closed the book and pushed it away and instead
pulled one of his own pillows down and wrapped his arms around it, pulling it
close to his chest and resting his head on it.
Blaise
snuggled further under his covers. “Was I snoring again?” He asked with a small
red tinge coming over his cheeks.
Snickering
as the memory of Blaise’s snoring stuck to him, Draco shook his head. “Nah, I’m
running a bit of a temperature” he informed his friends as he stifled a yawn.
He
remembered Pansy telling him that yawning was meant to be contagious, as we
laughing. He held back a chuckle when Blaise followed him with his own yawn.
Theory proven.
“Hey,
what do you think with all this Potter business?” Blaise suddenly asked,
blinking back his sleep.
Draco
frowned. “What do you mean?”
Raising
a brow the dark toned boy shifted so that he could look across the room to
Draco easier. “Well, we all know he’s gay, we all know you’re gay… So obviously
everyone’s put two and two together. I want to know what you think of it” he
stated.
Draco’s
frown deepened. “I’m not gay! I’m bisexual, there is a difference!” He defended
himself. “And just because we’re both into males doesn’t mean he’s interested
in me” he stated.
Blaise’s
brow’s raised. “Oh come on, the rumours are running wild out there, don’t you
believe them?”
Draco
blinked. “What rumours?”
This
time the dark haired boy laughed, making the two other occupants in their room
stir. “Oh and you say you’ve never been in denial” he chuckled as he shook his
head and brushed his hand through his hair to pull his fringe out of his eyes.
“What
are you talking about? What rumours?” The blonde insisted with little patience
as he looked over to his friend.
This
time Blaise blinked. “You haven’t heard the rumours?” He asked in astonishment.
Rolling
his eyes and pushing the pillow away he sat up on his bed and leaned back
against the headboard. “Do I look like I’ve heard the rumours? I wouldn’t ask
you to elaborate if I knew what you were talking about” he sneered.
Blaise
was looking at him almost horrified. “You’re telling me that you have
absolutely no idea what’s been said
about Potter and yourself?” He asked.
Draco
was bordering on impatience and hexing.
“No,
so why don’t you tell me what they’re
saying?” He hissed.
Now
sitting up, Blaise pushed himself onto the side of the bed, his feet touching
the cold stone floor. “Potter likes you” was all he said, leaving Draco blinking
and caught off breath.
“E-excuse
me?”
The
teen nodded. “He likes you. Or at least that’s what’s being rumoured. Potter
likes you and he’s trying to get to know you better… There’s also a rumour –
well actually Pansy thinks this – She thinks that Potter knows that you… like
him” he stated with a nod.
Draco’s
jaw dropped with horror. “What?!” He almost shrieked.
Goyle
and Crabbe stirred again, but still they slept with pillows over their heads.
Blaise
nodded. “She thinks that maybe he overheard a conversation or something, or he
read you… I personally think he somehow used Legilimency on one of us and found
out” he stated, nodding gravely to Draco’s increasing look of horror.
“I…
Where are all these rumours coming from? Why haven’t I heard them?” He asked, his
face pale and his heart rate increasing as he soaked up all the information.
This
wasn’t good.
Shrugging,
the other Slytherin sat back a little more, bringing his bear feet off the cold
ground. “Around. I think most of it’s coming from the Gryffindor’s though. I
overheard Seamus Finnigan talking to Weasley he was saying something about
Potter liking you and asking them to cooperate” he stated with a thoughtful
frown.
Shaking
his head, the blonde climbed off the bed. “This can’t be happening to me” he muttered
as he began to pace. “I want to know how he found out… Or if he does know” he said in blind panic.
Blaise
got off his bed and walked over to his pacing friend. “Draco, what’s the
problem? You like him, obviously he likes you too… You should be rejoicing or
something” he stated as he placed a hand on the blonde’s shoulder to stop his
worried pacing.
Draco
pulled back from the touch. “No! This is not good! Don’t you understand! He
doesn’t like me! He just found out that I like him and now he’s planning on
tricking me into thinking he likes me too… He probably set it up so that all
those rumours would go around… he’s probably trying to trick me into confessing
to him or doing something equally as stupid so that he can laugh in my face!!”
He cried.
Stepped
back, his brows raised in surprise, Blaise watched as his friend resumed his
pacing. “Or he could actually like
you” he said, making the blonde pause and look at him, shocked.
“Potter
like me? I find it hard enough trying to understand why I like him! I spent
most of my schooling competing and trying to make his life miserable, this sort
of feeling isn’t meant to build between enemies” he informed him with a broken
gaze.
Blaise
smiled in sympathy. “Draco, usually the feelings have to originate from somewhere,
yours just happened to start from hate and jealousy” he stated with a simple
shrug.
The
blonde stared at him, almost not believing what he had just heard. “I admitted
I liked Potter only a few months ago-”
“Last
year” The dark boy interrupted.
Draco
glared at him. “I decided to ignore it, wait for it to go away.”
“No,
you decided to live in denial and wished that it’d go away” Once again he
interrupted.
“I
can’t like Potter and he can’t like me!!” He ended up practically screaming in
his friends face.
“Why?”
Was his simple reply. Blaise looked at Draco, honestly curious.
Taken
back by the question, the blonde blinked and stepped back, his gaze adverted to
the stone floor just near his bed. “Because… I don’t know what else to do about
it” he stated.
“You
could try… Oh I don’t know, admitting it to yourself? Allow Potter to woo you
and date the guy” he stated simply with a look of ‘duh’ on his face.
Draco
shook his head and lightly grasped his hair in his hands as he walked backwards
and collapsed onto his bed. “Things don’t work like that. He’s Harry Potter. Everyone wants to date him--”
“I
don’t”
“Everyone
likes him, I’m just like them. You might as well start calling me his fan” he spat out, ignoring Blaise’s
earlier comment. “I’m just like all those girls that write him love letters on
valentines day, or when they act bloody giddy when he’s around” he snapped as
he buried his head into a pillow.
“Draco,
I’m yet to see you act giddy around
him. You act yourself. If I were Potter I would have never guessed that you
liked me” he stated simply as he sat on the side of his friends bed.
“That’s
you, this is him. You told me yourself that he knows I like him. How am I meant
to face him now? He knows I like him!!” He groaned and closed his eyes. This
had to be one of the worst feelings of embarrassment he had ever felt.
“I
said we think he might know, not that
he does. Listen, obviously if he’s found out you like him he’s interested in
return. I don’t know Potter but I know he’s a Gryffindor and Gryffindor’s don’t
play with emotions if they aren’t willing to return them” he stated simply.
Draco
slowly looked up from his pillow and looked to Blaise with a weak smile. “Does
this knowledge of Gryffindors come from your ex-girlfriend or something?” He
asked, referring to the time Blaise had dated a fifth year from Gryffindor for
a few months.
Blaise
blushed and shrugged. “That and the fact that Gryffindor’s are just so
predictable” he stated simply. “Anyway, Potter can handle you and your mood
swings, I think he finds you as a challenge in some way, trying to read you. I
heard Granger once tell Longbottom that Potter likes spontaneous things,
because he hates his days being the same, and I have to say that if he want’s
each of his days to be different, getting you for a boyfriend will definitely
give him that” he stated, chuckling and ignoring the slap to the back of the
head.
The
alarm clock rang.
Blaise
and Draco looked up and watched as Crabbe and Goyle groaned and tried to bury
their heads under the rest of their pillows, trying to drown out the sound.
“Just
take each moment as it comes, Potter has to be interested in return to be going
to all this trouble to get to know you” Blaise stated as he patted the blonde
on the back and stood.
Maybe
he’d keep Blaise, the rest could get replaced.
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Draco
nervously sat down at the round table not looking to Potter as the teen looked
up from his study.
“Hello,
I didn’t see you during breakfast” the brunette stated as he pushed his book to
the side and focused his attention on the blonde.
Glancing
to him and then busying himself with unpacking some books, Draco shrugged. “I
didn’t go to breakfast, I did some study in my dorm before heading to class” he
stated simply as he tried to swallow his nerves.
Potter
nodded and looked back to his book. “So what classes did you just have?” He
asked.
Once
again small talk was started.
Draco
filtered through his books before pulling out his Charms text book.
“Transfiguration” he stated. “You?”
Potter
chuckled causing the blonde to look up and over to him curiously. “Sorry, it’s
just that I don’t think you’ve asked me a question of your own once” he stated
with a small shake of the head.
Frowning
the blonde nodded. “Yes I have” he stated.
“No
you haven’t. Each question I asked you’d answer and put a ‘You?’ on the end” he
stated, now looking a little amused at the slightly blushing teen.
“Well
sorry, I didn’t know we had to be original with our questions” he muttered
darkly as he flicked open his book.
Silence
fell around them for a few minutes.
“I
had Advanced Charms” he replied with a fond smile.
Looking
up, Draco raised a brow before shaking his head and rolling his eyes, promptly
ignoring the look he got he turned back to his study book.
“You
know, you look paler then usual” Potter suddenly commented, once again bringing
the blondes attention back to him.
He
had a cold, though he was yet to get the sniffily nose and all those other
disgusting side effects, but he was currently suffering from dizzy spells,
sickness in the stomach and temperatures. He had been meaning to go to Madam
Pomfrey earlier, but with the rumour’s being brought forth to his attention
going to the hospital wing was the last thing on his mind.
He
had spent up to this part of the day looking around corners before he entered
them, trying his best to avoid bumping into Potter. But Pansy had kindly
reminded him of his promise to meet Potter in the library once again, and
knowing it probably wouldn’t look good if he stood the Saviour of the Wizarding
World up he decided it was best to turn up, if only for a short time.
“I’m
coming down with a cold” He informed simply as he shifted through the pages.
“Have
you seen Poppy?” Potter asked as he leaned forward somewhat, staring intently
at the blonde.
Draco
looked up and sat back a little to put some extra distance between them. “No, I
haven’t had time” he stated.
Potter
raised a brow. “Nonsense, you have time now.”
For
a moment Draco studied him, and then shrugged. “Okay, I’ll go now” he stated as
he began to pack up his things and put them back in the bag.
“I’ll
come with you”.
Looking
up and over to the teen that was now also packing up, the blonde raised a brow.
“Why? I’m capable of finding my way there, I don’t need an escort”.
Picking
up his backpack, Potter just offered him a small smile and began to walk
towards the exit. “Come on”.
Grabbing
his backpack, the Slytherin caught up to Potter’s side. “I don’t need an escort
Potter, I can go there on my own” he insisted as they exited the library and
began to make their way down the hallway.
Glancing
at him, the Gryffindor nodded in agreement. “I know, but what if you were to
faint? Or something, who’d get you to Poppy then?”
Raising
a sceptical brow, the blonde rolled his eyes. “Potter, I’m not about to
collapse, it’s a cold not a life
threatening disease” he insisted as he made his way down the winding corridor
and past a small group of second year Hufflepuffs.
“Let’s
see”
Suddenly
he found his arm being held, making him stop in his tracks. Looking back to the
Gryffindor he raised a brow. “What?” he asked.
Ignoring
him, Potter raised his hand and rested it against the Slytherins forehead.
His
hand was cool against his forehead. Draco held still, not daring to shift as he
looked back at Potter.
“You’re
running a rather high temperature, are you sure it’s a cold?” The brunette
asked as he slowly dropped his hand from the teen’s forehead.
Shaking
his head, mainly to get rid of the lingering feelings that ran through his
limbs, Draco stepped back and began walking once again. “It’s a cold, Potter.
It’s winter, I sleep in a dungeon that’s under the frozen lake, I think that’s
enough evidence to help conclude that I have caught a cold” he stated.
He
brushed his fringe out of his way and behind his ear, his hand somewhat
lingering on his forehead.
“Don’t
your dorms get internal heating or something?”
Sparing
the brunette a look Draco raised a brow. “Are you sure you’re not really a blonde”
it wasn’t until he got the sentence out that he realised he had just insulted
himself as well, and to show this he huffed and walked a little faster while
Potter chuckled.
“I’m
sure, yes” the Gryffindor stated as he caught up to him, a grin planted on his
face.
Draco
rolled his eyes. “Whatever. Yes the dungeons have heating, but that doesn’t
mean it stops the cold chill from getting in” he informed the other teen as he
approached the hospital wing.
Potter
smirked, at what Draco had no idea.
“Mr
Malfoy, Mr Potter?” Madam Pomfrey asked as she approached, her eyes moved from
one teen to the next. “I’ve heard the rumours but I never thought I’d ---” She
trailed off, shaking her head in awe.
The
word ‘rumour’s’ brought back memories of his earlier conversation with Blaise.
This caused him to glance to Potter quickly then back to Pomfrey.
“I-I’m
coming down with a cold, I was just hoping to get something for it” he stated,
his voice a little strained as suddenly he became aware of how close Potter was
standing to him. He could feel the warmth of the teen’s body heat.
Pomfrey
nodded and gestured to an empty bed. “Take a seat and I’ll have a look at you”
she stated as she swept away.
When
Draco stepped forward Potter did too, making their arms brush and a shiver to
run up then blonde’s back.
This
was not a good sign.
“Do
you mind if I stay, I have to pick up some medication anyway” Potter stated as
he took a seat beside the bed. Draco only shrugged as he lifted himself onto
the bed and sat on it, waiting for the nurse to return.
Finally
Pomfrey returned with two vials, one in which she handed over to Potter and the
other she placed on the bedside table before she stepped back and looked at
Draco. “Now, what are your symptoms?” She asked.
“I’ve
had a few dizzy spells, a little sick, I woke up around four thirty with a
fever and I’m starting to get a sore throat” he said, listing his symptoms.
Pomfrey
nodded, “Have you eaten?”
“Um…
No”
She
didn’t look impressed. “Have these symptoms been with you for long?”
“No…
I’ve probably had them less than twenty four hours” he stated.
Again
Pomfrey nodded. “Common cold” she stated as she picked up the flask and handed
it to him. “Drink this, get some food and an early night, and then see me again
tomorrow, same time” she stated as she left, making her way back to her office.
Draco
glared after her, ready to mutter about her nursing abilities, but beside him
Potter stood and pocketed his own vial, making the blonde look to the pocket.
“What kind of medication are you on?” He asked as he pushed himself off the
bed.
Potter
gave him a small smile as they made their way calmly to the exit. “Sleeping
potions” he stated.
The
blonde raised a brow but let the topic drop.
oOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOoOo
Aha!
‘Rumour’
right between ‘Acceptance’ and ‘Hope’ at the bottom of the find a word.
