Chapter 3: A Similar Difference
~
Smiling lazily, Padma turned a page in her large tome she
had taken out of her manor library for some light reading, if there was just
two things she loved it was knowledge and tradition. She like most pureblooded
witches based her own thoughts on just that.
Her disgusting blood-traitor of a sister apparently did not, and it was
starting to show.
It was sometime after her fourth year that they had started
to grow distant. While they were always
somewhat separate for wizarding twins it was becoming apparent. Padma sigh, how
she long to have the connection the Weasley twins had with each other. It was a pity they were blood-traitors. But alas, they were never really meant to be
that way. Parvati was too much of Gryffindor for her own good, but it probably
started even before Hogwarts.
If any family was to have favorites it was the
Patil’s. Ameria Patil heavily favored
Parvati for her feministic charms, while Radual Patil favored Padma for her
intelligence and wit. Ameria was one of the few pureblood witches that was
pushing for changes in the world. She
believe in the new more open views and was almost always pleased to know when
Parvati was dating someone new.
Radual on the other had tended to like the older more
traditional ways but was often cowed by his overzealous, over Gryffindor
wife. Since Ameria tended to ignore
Padma, who was not that interested in boys, Radual taught her everything his
old Ravenclaw mind could cook up. For
that Padma was eternally grateful. His
love for tradition was always shone through her, much to her mother’s growing
shame.
Padma blinked, that was probably were it started really,
the changes between the two girls. The
physical appearances, however really didn’t start until Parvati refused her
ancient culture, saying something about they were in Britain not India, and had
gotten a bit violent when Padma had said they had a home in India too they just
did not reside there all the time.
Parvati tended to wear jeans and blouses when out of
Hogwarts and formal events. Padma
however tended to wear dress robes or the traditional Indian Dresses, and
always displaying was her bindi.
Parvati only wore hers at Family events.
Parvati in all her Gryffindor stupidity also supported half
bloods and Mudbloods, Padma while not open like Malfoy was not one to associate
with tainted blood. She had only agreed
to going with Ron Weasley because he was a pure blood. Heaven forbid it had been the half blood
Finnegan or even worse the Mudblood Thomas.
Padma scowl, both of which were going to be staying at the
manor tomorrow. Could she invite
friends and their families over?
No. Could Parvati? Yes.
She was glad she looked so much different from Parvati now. She wouldn’t have to talk to them if all
went well.
Padma rolled the tome she had been pondering over and replaced
it on the dusty shelves. She brushed
her long hair out of her eyes. As in
tradition she was growing her hair out, only magically trimming any spilt ends. After sixteen years of growing it out it was
past her knees. Something she prided
her self in, the one thing she spent time to really primp. Parvati had kept her hair just past her
shoulders. But there physical
differences were more than just there hair and the use of the traditional
bindi. It was they were so different that their magic was changing them.
They had been identical at one point. If it hadn’t been for
the way they dress it had been almost impossible to tell between the two. Even then they were getting mistaken for
each other. When the changes started
Padma could not really tell, they had been so slight. Her own hair had taken on a chocolate brown color, while
Parvati’s had become more black. When
they were younger, the two had always been getting compliments on their eyes,
those crisp dark blue eyes. Now Padma
found her own eyes had kept their royal blue color, but Parvati, her’s had
taken on a much lighter shade, becoming a teal color almost.
But even more than that the twins had once been the same
height, but Padma had grown a couple of inches on Parvati by now, standing at
just over one-hundred seventy-five centimeters while Parvati was only at
one-hundred sixty-eight centimeters.
Needless to say it was a bit of a jump.
Padma once again wish for that connection that the Weasley
twins had. Coming from a pureblood line
witches and wizards when born an identical twin had a magical bond. One that with twin weakened or grew. The Weasley’s were a prime excuse of a
strong twin bond. It was evident that
when they finished their own sentences and constantly were together. Rumors had it they even shared their
partners with each other, but for public sakes had taken on separate
girlfriends.
“Are still in here?”
Padma frowned.
“Yes Parvati, I am,” Parvati rolled her eyes dramatically.
“Dean and Seamus are here, and Mom said to get downstairs
to join the family.” Padma’s felt her
frown deepen. There was no escape from the tainted blood this weekend.
~
Surprisingly enough the weekend went faster then Padma had
expected. Though it was not due to the
help from the half-blood and Mudblood, it had been her father. He had allowed her to leave the company of
them for the whole weekend. Padma had
been thrilled, Parvati had pouted.
So that brought Padma to where she was right now, basking
in the glorious feel of the Healing Pool at the bottom of their home. It was common for the older Pureblood
Families to have one. A Healing Pool
did exactly what its name said; it was a natural magical spring (quite rare)
that would bubble up into the surface.
Apparently some muggles had happened upon one once and called it the
“Fountain of Everlasting Young,” though it did nothing of the sort. It just quickly heals wounds and
illnesses. Faster than even some potions,
but as rare as it was to find one it was not a common cure.
Sometime during the night the screaming had started. The Death Eater’s had entered their
home. Padma smirked lazily at the
sounds of the tortured souls up stairs.
They were to leave her home intact, or the Dark Lord would here of it.
It was around that time that Padma felt something curl over
her body. She glanced up in time to see
the large snake pounce at her. Yelping
she did what most anyone would do stuck her hand out to protect her body.
Padma winced; she could feel the teeth tear through her
hand. Feeling slightly dizzy Padma
grabbed her wand off of the ledge and cast a quick severing hex, only then
vaguely remembering that particular snake was especially venomous.
But the dizzy feeling had gone and her hand had healed.
Padma scowled and turned towards the door.
There standing in the doorway was Parvati looking bloody and all around
angry.
“You bitch, you turned on our family, you turned on your
friends, and you still won’t die!” Parvati in all her Gryffindor stupidity
stamped her foot.
Padma just smirked lazily, fishing herself out of the
water. Wordlessly casting ‘protego’
knowing her stupid sister would attack any time now.
True to her nature she did just as Padma was slipping into
a bathrobe she had set out. Padma just
smiled prettily as Parvati yowled in rage.
“Your going about this killing business all wrong.
You have to fondle it, Parvati. Not
rush it. Here let me show you. Crucio!”
Padma bounced her head as if to a sound as she watched Parvati thrash and
scream. After a time she removed the curse with a giggle.
“This
is how you kill someone, dear sister…Avada
Kedavra.” Padma smiled gleefully as she watched her sister crumple
to the floor, leaving her the last of the Patil family.
