Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, nor any of the characters from the books or movies. I do not make any money from the writing of this story. |
Author’s Note: Alright, I know it’s been a while - though I haven’t the vaguest clue as to whether or not anybody really minds that…oh well! - and that there was no Ron cruelty in the last chapter…but meh. It’ll come sooner or later. Read, review. Enjoy, hopefully. Thanks for the reviews! If I ever get more, I’ll be more specific in thanking. And thank my friend Abbie for helping me by playing beta for most of this. If anyone who is a member of AFF is willing to beta for me, do tell!
Disclaimer: No, I still don’t own Harry Potter. If it were ever possible, I don’t think I’d want to, awesome though it is. …Far too stressful.
Chapter Two
“No, that’s quite alright.” Her voice drew his attention first, noticing her helping a little girl pick up a stack of books she dropped. Noticing her sudden pause upon one, he frowned. It wasn’t a book authored by a witch or wizard; Katsumi, too, noticed this, causing the child to shift uncomfortably. “I love this book…C.S. Lewis is an excellent author, isn’t he?”
“Y-yes…” Shy, but blushing in pleasure at the comment, she smiled. “Aslan is wonderful, isn’t he? …D’you think he really exists, miss?”
“…I think a small part of him exists in all of us. And please, my name is Katsumi…” A smile, crouching down to hand her the rest of her books. “If I’m not mistaken, you’ll be going to Hogwarts this year? A first year, are you?”
“Yes…Miss…Katsumi, I mean.” A smile, before an adult joined her, and lead her away - shooting odd looks at Katsumi all the while.
“…Katsumi…” He murmured, making her jump. The glare she directed at him was nearly enough to make him smile - but he didn’t, as he had the vaguest feeling she would hit him for doing so. “…A beautiful name.”
“…I know you just to look at you. You’re a Malfoy, aren’t you?” Her narrowed eyes, crossed arms, and challenging stance were easy enough to ignore. He merely smiled, giving her a faint nod.
“Yes. I’m Draco Malfoy.” Seeing Ginny and Hermione on their way to the door, he bowed to Katsumi, stepping back. “I’m sure we’ll meet again…beautiful.”
“Don’t call me that.” The growl was lost on him, as he smiled again before turning and losing himself in the crowd, leaving her to sigh and compose herself as her friends joined her.
“Weren’t you going to go wait for us at the café?” Ginny questioned, looking a bit confused as she and Hermione joined Katsumi. “What happened?”
“I bumped into a little girl…We ended up talking about a book she had. Shall we, then?” Taking the bag containing her books from Ginny, Katsumi led the way to a little café they had passed on the way to the bookstore.

Of course, a certain blonde being a sneaky devil, when they were seated, she found herself being handed a rather large box by the proprietor of the shop. The confusion on her face mirrored that of her two companions.
“Well? Open it!” Ginny demanded, poking her in the side. “Come on, we want to know what’s in it! Who sent it?! Does it say?”
“It doesn’t say…and I don’t want to open it! It’s probably from your brothers, and something shocking from their joke shop to boot!”
“Katsumi.” Hermione’s voice was calm, but the look on her face betrayed her curiosity. “Open it, or we’re going to give you hell until you do.”
“You’re joking.”
“Try us.” Ginny retorted.
“…faced with those options…I’ll risk a prank from the twins.” Katsumi muttered, leaning away as she opened the box, eyes closed.
“Oh my God!” Hermione squeaked, causing Katsumi to open one eye toward the box, before both shot open in shock. “Who…?!”
“There have to be at least two dozen white roses there, Katsumi! Who would give you so many expensive flowers?!” Ginny was taking turns staring first at the roses, then at Katsumi, eyes nearly as wide as Katsumi’s own.
“I…don’t know…” Truthfully, though as she saw the card lying against the stems, and picked it up to read it, she realized she probably should have known. Fully aware of the two glaring at her possibly in the hopes that she’d catch fire for not reading the card aloud the moment she picked it up, she sighed and read it to them. “I regret that we did not speak as much as I would have liked, nor was what little conversation we had carried out on the most amiable of terms. A peace offering, that next time, perhaps, you will favor me with a true conversation. Draco Malfoy.”
“You spoke to Malfoy?!” Hermione yelped. “He gave you flowers?!”
“Yes, I spoke to him. He overheard my name when I was talking to the little girl, introduced himself, then left. He must have seen the two of you coming out.” Katsumi sighed, rubbing her forehead. “And apparently he gave me roses. The evidence lies before all our eyes. …unfortunately.”
“He can’t know you, Katsumi…why would he spend so much on someone he just met?” As suspicion dawned in Ginny’s eyes, and Hermione’s shortly after her distraction faded, Katsumi was lucky that a shout from the street drew their attention.
“Are you three ready to go?” Tonks questioned as she reached them. “Molly and the others went back already, though it took a bit to convince her to go on back and let me handle the three of you. She seems to think I might let you get into trouble…”
“More like she thinks you’d help!” Ginny laughed. “We were just about to order…want to join us? Katsumi’s buying on the condition Hermione and I don’t harass her for a completely pathetic girl moment.”
“Really? Do tell.” Tonks questioned, dropping to sit in the open chair. “And where did you acquire that box of roses, Katsumi?”
“…It ties in.” Katsumi muttered, sighing. “Tell me what you lot want, I’ll go order…and you can gleefully make fun of me while I’m gone.”
“Good deal!” Hermione laughed, and after Katsumi left, the two informed Tonks of what had happened and who had given the roses. A story that left all three giggling in the middle, and extremely curious near the end.

When they got back from shopping, Katsumi excused herself to go take a nap upstairs, thankful to escape before the other three could interrogate her. Much to her relief, Molly Weasley set them to work helping around the house before they could follow her and harass her upstairs, leaving her to nap in peace, the roses set on her trunk.
How the hell am I supposed to explain it to them?
