Chapter
Three- The Others
Snape took about one
second to realize that Becca had given him the slip, orchestrating the whole
lost “geetar.” “So, these
were allies. No point in staying
here. Miss Moore I am coming to
find you,” he thought angrily. For
his anger was growing, because he came back to the realization, he had no clue
where she was hiding. Secretly, he
was pleased, he knew she was definitely not Slytherin material, but she
was proving to be quit sly. He had
to get out of the bar.
He slipped into the alley
and choose a dark spot. He slowly
withdrew his wand from the depths of his robes. One more quick glance to make sure no one was watching.
The coast was clear. He
turned his attention back to his wand. He
hissed softly, “Runaway you will not stay.
Never take the ride. Show me
where you hide, ssssssss, Optumlous!” Snape
held out his hand and small green glow stared to radiate.
From inside the glow, a serpent of deep tones of green began to uncoil
itself lifting its head to acknowledge Snape and allowed its fangs to become
visible. Next, it tenderly caressed
Snape’s hand as it drifted and wound around his wrist.
Then immediately, the snake turned its head left to show its master where
the path would begin. Snape saw the eerie glowing arrows pointing the way to the
girl.
Becca was just outside the
apartment, when she could feel Snape’s’ presence nearing.
She quickly opened the door as he was rounding the corner.
She turned to acknowledge him. “He’s
faster than I thought”, she murmured to herself.
“Sorry about all of the bull sheet, professor, I jus needed to give
these kids this money” was all she said.
Snape realized that the door was open and some other girl was there with
a dog at her side. Snape looked
down at the mammoth beast of a dog. It
had to be clear over one hundred pounds. It
was the color of a brown bear, but with a beautiful face.
Its chest had to be a clear 17 inches or so.
For a Muggle beast, it was very intimidating.
The beast was easing up to
Becca; Snape could feel the love coming from the dog for the girl.
As if by instinct, Becca reached down and stroked the dogs’ head and
grabbed his ear gently. “What’s sup, Doo?” she asked him affectionately.
But by this point, the beast had seen Snape.
The dog was starting to swell with a growl when Becca said, “Easy, big
boy, he’s my friend.” The growl
gave away to a snort of some type. Snape
sneered at the girl and dog. “Miss
Moore, this is your final warning. It
is time to go. This disobedience
has to stop,” but he made no move towards her, the beast was eyeing him
cautiously. “Jus a few minutes,
professor. Then I’ll pay the
fiddler. Alright?”
She looked at him so pleadingly without waiting for an answer; Becca
quickly turned to the girl.
“Hey kiddo, where’s Sallee?” she asked as she gave the
girl a light embrace reaching to pull the envelope out of her coat.
She emitted an intoxicating smile, “Guess what this is?”
The girl let out a hoop of enjoyment.
Snape surveyed the girl. Definitely
related to Becca, he thought, same face, same features, but she was also very
different than Becca. Sally had
brown hair and eyes. Snape guessed
her to be five or more years younger then Becca.
Snape was forming a sentence when, at that time, Sallee appeared from
another room. Snape was momentarily
shocked and remained silent. Sallee
was a boy, close to Becca's’ age. He
was somewhat small and really quit thin. But
the part that Snape could not get over was the boys’ walk.
He had a nasty limp. He
approached Becca was fear in his eyes looking at Snape.
Becca knew this would not be easy for Sallee, having Snape in the house,
but there was no other way right now.
“Hey, Hey, Sal.
What’s the word?” Becca mused at him softly trying to coax him into
speech. Snape was struck by her
kindness. She had positioned
herself where Sallee had to look over her shoulder to see Snape.
“Hey, Sal,” she murmured getting the boy to focus his gaze at her,
“I got the loot. Go pay the bills
tomorrow. We’re good.
Do ya’ll got groceries?” she was excited and speaking rapidly only
briefing pausing for Sallee to nod about the food, Becca turned to girl and
continued, “Our plan has come together. It’s
all gooood,” with thick emphasis on good.
It was clear Becca was trying to steady her “crew”.
“But I gotta go now, but I will be back Friday afternoon after
classes. I love you guys. Hang tight. We’re
coming through the dark, guys,” she told them.
Becca turned to Professor
Snape trying not to let her confidence wane in the presence of the others.
She looked Snape in the eye. “Professor?”
it was more a question. Then
another thought hit her, Becca turned her attention back to the others,
“Sallee take some funds for you and Lynn.
You guys gotta have better coats.”
Snape saw Lynn start to protest. But
Becca stopped her, “I’ve got another gig.
We got the money we need. Take
some and enjoy. Okay.
Don’t we deserve it,” she gently asked the girl.
The girl nodded with tears welling up.
Becca was purring softly, Snape had to strain to hear her, “I got to
go. Stay strong.
It’s gonna be alright,” she continued as she approached the girl, “I
will be back. I am Not her. No fear ever.”
Snape stepped back to exit the apartment, which had had only taken one
step inside, when he stumbled on something.
He turned and peered down, “But of coarse,” he thought.
He picked up Becca’s’ guitar case and handed it to her just before
they apperiated to the edge of the school.
