Chapter Three: Arseholes
Hermiones Point Of View

"If you'll just follow me" Professor McGonagall requests of Malfoy and I.

I'm still pretty shaky from my encounter with Harry at dinner. I'm very uncomfortable and feeling even worse because I am still dating Seamus. Harry needs to start controlling himself, and he needs to figure out that I don't want anything to do with him.

Malfoy's eyes connect with mine for a moment and I bow my head, waiting for him to follow McGonagall. He does. He is walking with his usual swagger, his face slightly turned up towards the ceiling. I follow him and can't stop my thoughts of Harry from penetrating my mind. I'm in a really horrible situation, and I don't want to say anything because over anything else, Harry is my friend. If Seamus knew what was going on I don't even know how he would react. Probably just smile, and tell me that everything is going to be fine. Malfoy; I shake my head as he struts ahead of me. Arrogant jerk. McGonagall leads us up three flights of stairs and turns left at the top of the landing. Malfoy and I are in her wake. She is giving us instructions and warning us about being in each other's rooms.

"Yeah, right," Malfoy says, sneering at me. I hide my face further.

Finally, we halt outside of a Portrait of five or six little house elves; they are cleaning everything in their Portrait,even if it is already immaculate.

"Your password is �Unity�, she tells us sternly. The Portrait opens slowly, revealing our house for the rest of the school year.

I stand back and let Malfoy enter first; he gives me an odd look. I follow him inside and look at my surroudings. It's exactly how I expected it to be. Beautiful. There is a plush green couch directly in front of the large fireplace, and two burgundy overstuffed armchairs are on either side of it. In front of the couch is a
low, wrought iron table with a glass top. The fire in the grate crackles merrily, mocking my mood. There are a few bookshelves
on each side of the room, but they barely have anything in them.

"Hermione, your room is on the right, she says, pointing to a door there. "Draco, yours is the left." She nods toward the direction of his bedroom. "Both of your trunks are already in your rooms, and you'll be sharing a bathroom."

"Great," Malfoy says sarcastically, his shoulders squared, back straight and his usual smirk stamped across his face. It's lost on McGonagall.

She steps back and appraises us for a moment, then sweeps out of the room.

A retort suitable only for Malfoy comes to mind, though I am trying to contain it, the words spill forth. "Try not to spend too many hours in front of the mirror in the bathroom, Malfoy. As you know, we'll be sharing."

His eyes brighten. "Well, we all know my looks are an important thing."

"Yea, because that's all you've got going for you," I reply, scathingly.

"Make sure you clean everything thoroughly when you're finished, yeah?. I don't need to be sharing anything with you, if you know what I mean."

"I'm afraid you're going to have to speak a bit more clearly, Malfoy. What exactly would I be sharing with you?"

"Oh, this and that," He says, I know what he's getting at.

I sigh exasperatedly. "You're something else."

"Thank you," he replies, checking his fingernails for dirt.

"That wasn't a compliment"

"Oh? Well it sounded like one."

"I would never compliment you, Malfoy."

He looks up at me, "That's because you don't know about some of my skills to compliment me about. Not that you ever will"

"Like I want to?"

"Well-"

The sound of a hand against wood stops us both and we turn toward the door.

"Well, answer it!" Malfoy demands.

I sigh, I already know who it is. I feel the tension in my face shift along with my mood. I hope that my annoyance with him is written clearly on my face. i go to the Portrait, pushing it outwards. Seamus is standing there with an un-readable look on his face. I step back. "Come in."

Seamus steps through the Portrait hole and his eyes fall upon Malfoy, standing haughtily. If looks could kill, Malfoy would be dead. The glare Seamus offers the arrogant blond only rivals Snape in its intensity.

"Problems, Finnegan?" Malfoy asks, indifferently.

"I need to talk to her," he says, nodding towards me with his head.

"Her?" he asks, a look of mock confusion on his face. Then his eyes train on me "Oh, sorry, I always thought she had a name," he replies.

Lately, I find most situations so tedious that I'm constantly sighing, I do so now.

"I need to talk to Hermione," Seamus says with a definite emphasis on my name. "If you could just leave for a bit?"

Wrong thing to say.

"Excuse me?" Malfoy asks; his voice lowering dangerously, �I will not be asked to leave my own Common Room. You leave."

"This is my Common Room too, Malfoy."

He shrugs, and moves towards the couch, settling down onto it with grace. "Well then, say whatever it is in front of me. I'm not leaving Granger."

"Fine, we'll leave." I take Seamus' hand and pull him out of the room, letting go of him as soon as we leave the false comfort of the Common Room. We walk down a few corridors and decide to just talk in an empty classroom.

"What did you want to talk about?" I ask, as the door shuts firmly behind us.

"Us," he replies.

I hold my hands out, palms up, facing him.

"Well, what happened?" he asks me cryptically

"With what?"

"With us."

"I don't know," I reply, leaving it at that.

"Do you even like me, Hermione?"

I take a deep breath. "I do, but I don't know if I like you in that special way anymore."

"Anymore? Since when?"

"You know when" I reply, a hard edge in my voice.

"Why? I thought that it would have brought us closer."

"I thought it would have too." I assure him. "But it didn't."

"Why not?"

"Seamus... I don't know"

"You know!" he yells, suddenly angry. "Tell me, Hermione, be truthful!"

"Well, I just think that it all happened in the wrong way."

"You're still mad because I was rougher with you than I meant to be!" He yells, his voice becoming louder.

"Seamus, calm down. That is part of it. I feel like� if you couldn't take my feelings seriously then, then maybe you never
will�"

Seamus' face twists in his anger, and I suddenly find myself a bit frightened.

"I do take you seriously, Hermione. It's a bit hard not to when you talk like a fucking Dictionary. Maybe if you didn't spread your legs so easily and let me fuck you right away, then we wouldn't be having this conversation."

I almost laugh, even though his words sting. I waited a long time before I allowed myself to have sex with him.

"Trust me, Seamus," I say in a harsh voice, "We definitely aren't having this conversation." With that, I throw the door open and storm from the room.

'I can't believe that he had the nerve to say that! We were together for almost a year before we had sex,' I say to myself angrily. 'Stupid arsehole.' I'm assuming that he just wasn't that good in the sack, because whenever I hear other girls talk about it, they say it's amazing.' I smile, feeling triumphant even though my mental jab towards Seamus goes unheard. If only I were immature enough to utter that aloud to him. I knew our relationship wasn't
going to last after that fateful evening at my parents' house; I knew before I went to bed that evening.

I'm surprised to find myself at my Common Room already. �Unity� I mutter, and walk through. Malfoy is still sitting where he was when I left, but now he is reading the same magazine from the train.

"That was pretty quick," he says with a smirk on his face. "Seamus not that good in the sack, then?". His eyes are shining, making me wonder what exactly he wants to know. Does he really want to know if Seamus is a good fuck, or does he want to know if he can get under my skin with his remarks?

I feel a blush climbing my neck. "Apparently not," I reply, but regret it. That was childish.

Malfoy raises his left eyebrow and looks back down at his magazine. I don't think he believes me.

"Seriously," I say. Why am I doing this? I give my head a little shake and walk towards my staircase.

"Right, Granger" Malfoy says, clearly unconvinced, when my hand is on the doorknob.

I just smile and disappear upstairs.

"Ugh," I grunt as I throw myself down onto the couch in the Common Room after dinner. 'If Harry tries anything else this week, I am going ask him to stop talking to me,' I tell myself firmly. I grab the magazine that Malfoy had left on the table days before.

I take a good look at the cover and quickly toss it away, a blush creeping up my face.

"Too dirty for you, Granger?" Malfoy asks. "I wouldn't think you would find too much dirty, not after the way I see Potter and Weasley�s advances. Are you fucking them, too?" he asks mockingly.

I sit up quickly. "Their advances?" I ask him. I suddenly burst into laughter. "I would never sleep with either of them"

"Potter�s got it hard for you." he says, glaring at me from the bottom of his staircase.

"Thanks, Malfoy, but did you honestly think that I didn't notice?"

"He looks like a fool when he's around you," Malfoy points out, then adds, "Not that anyone can figure out why he's trying so hard."

I shrug.

"Please don't be loud tomorrow morning. I want to sleep in"

Malfoy scoffs. "Okay," He says sarcastically, complete with an eye roll.

I yawn widely, covering it quickly with my hand. I stand up from the couch and make my way towards my staircase.

"Goodnight, Granger" Malfoy says, taking over the couch.

I'm momentarily in shock, looking back at him. "'Night," I say quickly and slam the door behind me
